I'm a girl kind of in the way that dandelions are weeds

technically true but not quite right

I'm a dandelion, but a dandelion in the way that children see them

as little pockets of sunshine sprouting from the earth

when I was little, my grandmother would sit with me outside while I ran around collecting as many as my grubby little hands could hold

and then she would teach me how to make flower crowns out of them

I never understood why kids told me that I had to pick something different when I said that dandelions were my favorite flowers

eventually I learned to say roses, or daises, or sunflowers instead

but secretly those defiant little flowers that grow wherever they want

that grow for themselves rather then the will of a gardener

will always hold a special place in my heart

Thats all to say that I guess my issue is less in being a women

and more in the way that society perceives them

we have this mold for what a women is or isn't, and I don't feel like I quite fit into it

I feel women-adjacent:

women enough to embrace my femininity

but not enough for the word to feel anything but foreign

she/they feels like a recognition of the fact that I don't quite fit into one category or another

I'm not a flower or a weed

and frankly I don't really care for labels-

a dandelion grows regardless of what you call it

Love Story but it's gay || Cover by Reinaeiry

https://youtu.be/vOz3W8TGSBE

We were both young when I first saw you I close my eyes and the flashback starts I'm standin' there On a balcony in summer air See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns See you make your way through the crowd And say, "Hello" Little did I know That we were meant be but no one else agrees But I don’t care about them because you’re all I need And I was crying on the staircase Beggin' you, "Please don't go, " and I said Baby, just take me somewhere we can be alone I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run We’ll go far away and we’ll make it out of this mess It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes" So I sneak out to the garden to see you We keep quiet, 'cause we're dead if they knew So close your eyes Escape this town for a little while, oh oh ‘Cause we were meant be but no one else agrees But I don’t care about them because you’re all I need And you are everything to me I was beggin' you, "Please don't go, " and I said Baby, just take me somewhere we can be alone I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run We don’t need a prince and you’re not a damsel in distress It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes" Darling won’t you save me, they're trying tell me how to feel This love is difficult, but it's real Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes" I got tired of waiting Wondering if you were ever coming around My faith in you was fading When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said Darling won’t you save me, I've been feeling so alone I keep waiting for you, but you never come Is this in my head? I don't know what to think She knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring And said, "Marry me, Juliet You'll never have to be alone I love you and that's all I really know We’ll go far away, I will take you out of this mess It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes" Oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh 'Cause we were both young when I first saw you

When we're born, a doctor instantly deems us to be one of two things: Male or female. But gender isn't just between our legs. It's also between our ears. So, what happens when how we look on the outside clashes with how we feel on the inside? Do we settle? Do we change? And at the end of the day should gender really be as big a deal as society wants us think it is? In this talk Decker Moss explores these issues and more, as he struggled through not only one but two major gender-related transitions in his life.   Recorded at TEDxColumbus on October 11, 2013 at COSI in Columbus, Ohio.

What is to gain from living a day of another gender? Diane Torr shows a perspective inspired by experiences from both male and female behaviours.

Diane Torr is a performance artist, who since the 1980s has performed as a male. In her workshops "man for a day" / "woman for a day" Diane resolves gender prejudices and teaches both males and females to see the world as well as themselfes from the opposite genders perspective.

Through her own parenting experience, Christy Hegarty has become an advocate for families with transgender children. During her talk at TEDxBloomington, Hegarty shares what she has learned as the mother of a transgender child. She explores the concept that we should be able to accept that our children may be different than we expect them to be and that we should not be afraid to allow them to express themselves. She challenges us to consider the idea that human evolution is more about being human than it is about being a gender and the important role acceptance plays in our evolving world. An artist, Hegarty describes her art as a great 'side gig' to her most important job, being a mom. In pursuit of a degree in studio art and education, Hegarty graduated with a B.A. from Denison University, where she met her husband Boyd, a Bloomington native. Hegarty currently lives in New Hampshire with her husband, three children, a golden retriever, and 9 chickens.

Elizabeth August shares her story about the magnitude of a mother's love. This young mom tells how she had to grieve the death of a son while simultaneously celebrating the birth of a daughter, when her five-year-old, who was born male, asked to present as a girl.   Elizabeth is a dedicated elementary school teacher entering her 11th year in the classroom. She teaches social justice and acceptance of others and strives to teach students to think critically and be solution-oriented. She works to create a safe and open environment in her classroom. Over the last few years, Elizabeth’s journey as a mother of a transgender child opened her eyes and heart to what acceptance really means, and how adults not only need to teach children to accept others, but accept themselves. Her experiences have fostered her passion to ensure civil rights for all people. Elizabeth believes that by accepting and sharing our true selves with each other, we can create a diverse and loving community.    Elizabeth studied Psychology and is married with two children.

May I just point out that This TEDx Talk is presented by a 12year old

https://youtu.be/NCLoNwVJA-0

Why is it so important for us to know someone else's gender? We live in a gendered world, but for Audrey, gender is fluid at best an uncomfortable construct. Is there a way to be less reliant on gender in our interactions with people? And what does this mean when it comes to the clothes we wear, or even which toilet we choose to use? If you met Audrey Mason-Hyde, you might think Audrey was a boy, which isn’t quite correct, but calling Audrey a girl doesn’t feel quite right either. At 12 years old, Audrey is already an accomplished actor with film and TV credits, including 52 Tuesdays, a film that won the Directing Award at Sundance Film Festival and the Crystal Bear, judged by the youth jury at the Berlin International Film Festival. With a fierce intellect and a unique sense of style, Audrey has plenty to say about our gendered world. Joseph Keogh gave this talk as a nineteen-year-old freshman at Penn State Behrend. He is from Stafford, Virginia where he graduated in 2016 from Mountain View High School. For his talk, Joseph tells the story of how he witnessed the shotgun suicide of one his classmates. This experience was traumatic and life altering. His story however will not be focused on the pain or hardships this moment had on his life, but rather the good that has come out of it. Joseph hopes to share his moment in time with the world in order to raise awareness about the reality of mentally based hindrances, and spread the word about EMDR therapy. As well as help the world look at themselves deeply and evaluate what they hold dear.

NOTE FROM TED: This talk contains discussion of suicide. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t... Social media is a credible way of interacting with others and expressing yourself in the 21st century. It seems like writing or joking about wanting to die has become just as ‘normal’ as posting about your day. Sarah Liberti enjoys singing and playing clarinet, saxophone and flute in various school ensembles, all while privately concentrating on voice studies. She is currently in her fourth year studying for her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education at Adelphi University (having transferred from Suffolk County Community College). For her TEDx presentation, “Casually Suicidal: What Now,” she drew inspiration from simply scrolling through social media. “It was heartbreaking to realize how many people passively or actively post about death,” she said. “Social media is a credible way of interacting with others and expressing yourself in the 21st century. It seems like writing or joking about wanting to die has become just as ‘normal’ as posting about your day.” Whether it is as a music teacher or in another capacity, Liberti intends to dedicate herself to helping others express themselves, feel safe and find solutions to serious internal and external struggles. Kimber Lybbert is National Board-certified teacher at Moses Lake High school, and her students keep telling her to write a book or give a TED talk. This year, her students argumentative research projects answer the question: What is it like to be a member of the class of 2020? Topics range from the lack of mental health counseling to the emerging mercantile nature of teen sexuality. Their stories reach down inside your core, draw the contents of your chest up through your sinus cavity, and lodge the debris somewhere behind your prefrontal cortex. They are beautiful and powerful and broken and patched together in ways that allow the best light of humanity to shine through them. In her talk she urges everyone to see the strength and potential in our young people. I am a National Board-certified teacher at Moses Lake High school, and my students keep telling me I need to write a book or give a TED talk. I don’t think this is because of who I am, but because of who they are. This year, their argumentative research projects answer the question: What is it like to be a member of the class of 2020? Are children poor liars? Do you think you can easily detect their lies? Developmental researcher Kang Lee studies what happens physiologically to children when they lie. They do it a lot, starting as young as two years old, and they're actually really good at it. Lee explains why we should celebrate when kids start to lie and presents new lie-detection technology that could someday reveal our hidden emotions.

Writer and artist James Bridle uncovers a dark, strange corner of the internet, where unknown people or groups on YouTube hack the brains of young children in return for advertising revenue. From "surprise egg" reveals and the "Finger Family Song" to algorithmically created mashups of familiar cartoon characters in violent situations, these videos exploit and terrify young minds -- and they tell us something about where our increasingly data-driven world is headed. "We need to stop thinking about technology as a solution to all of our problems, but think of it as a guide to what those problems actually are, so we can start thinking about them properly and start to address them," Bridle says. We need a plan of action for tomorrow. Generation Z is not at fault for their failures. Nate Turner explains accountability from all other generations. Nathaniel A. Turner was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. Despite graduating in the bottom quarter of his high school class from one of the worst and most impoverished school systems in the country, Nate went on to earn several degrees. Nate holds a Bachelors (Accounting), a Masters (Theology & History), and a Juris Doctorate degree. Nate is an entrepreneur and has operated a financial services practice for two decades. Not withstanding his professional accomplishments, Nate's greatest passion is helping children realize what he rarely experienced growing up in Gary: feeling valued as a human being and knowing his life had a purpose.Today, Nate's counsel and advice are included on his blog "The Raising Supaman Project", his radio show "The Road Less Traveled", and in his books "Raising Supaman" and "Stop The Bus". Nate encourages parents, guardians, and the community to raise children to become great world citizens and he challenges us all to maximize our abilities to their fullest potential. Nate also speaks nationally and contributes to other nationally recognized blogs, publications, and radio programs.Nate believes each day is another opportunity to share valuable experiences, tools, methods, and resources with those charged with preparing the sons and daughters of our Nation. Nate considers it a calling to make certain that OUR future is ready for this awesome journey called life.
