Welcome to the Half of This (HoT) podcast, hosted by the awkward, embarassing, yet relatable White-Korean Joey (한솔) Llewellyn. This is a place of raw, open conversations where we deep dive into current trends, exploring your 20s as a man, the halfie experience, health/fitness, dating, mental health, & life in general. In order to become the person he strives to be & understand the world fairly, Joey does what he can to provide objective, subjective, & personal knowledge + experiences on anything he explores. This is not the podcast we deserve, but the one we need. Let's all spill tea & talk!
In today's episode, I'm back! After a long hiatus, I talk about why I took a break, mindset during this time, and briefly update y'all on what's been happening on my end. I also brought back a nice, hot cup of tea where I discuss my recent experiences on hinge (dating app), what the guys' side looks like, the type of profiles we see, and a match that turned out wasn't my match 🙃.
~Enjoy the tea~

Don't know about you, but I'm pretty finished with Physical 100. We laughed, were inspired, felt motivated to be our best selves, and now we get lazy and move on. Hopefully there's still a lingering passion to be your best physical self after watching Physical 100, but we're wrapping that up here and now. Moving on...In today's episode, I wrap up my thoughts on Physical 100 since I finished binging it 2 weeks ago and honestly, I'm pretty over it. But this leaves room for discussion on what I'd like to see in the next season (if there is on) and how this show overall made me feel as a person and athlete. Not much to say except listen to the beginning half or 1/3 of the episode to hear more. Now, onto more interesting topics.... In the large remainder of the episode, we shift gears into how athletics and training plays a integral yet small part in my life regarding the insecurities and internal struggles I have been facing. I discuss this in on a general level for everyone to hopefully relate to and find some level of help from, as well as sharing personal experiences and thoughts on what went through my mind as a half Korean/white male as different life stages. On a final note, I share what I strongly believe helped me think through and understand my internal struggles to the point where positive change is within reach. If you enjoyed these type of talks, know that I plan to record episodes solely on this to get even deeper and raw. Thank you lots for listening in and share the pod with everyone you know! Warm regards,Joey --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/halfofthis/message
Still working out a solid, consistent upload schedule, but here's one for you.
Today's episode is split between two topics and are not really related. I talk about my very first modeling/photoshoot experience and how I think one can get their foot in the door into a modeling career. I share what I've learned and overall impressions of this path, but just so you know I'm a model so I know what I'm talking about whips hair back (obviously I'm joking, in no way am I knowledgeable nor an expert in this field). The episode then changes gear into a topic that I'm passionate about and is something that's been a part of my life for a very long time: sports and the athletic pursuit. Like any sane person, I've been binge watching a Korean Netflix series called Physical 100. I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone, but just now that after watching you'll wanna take up some sport or athletic/physical pursuit. I share my current thoughts what the show and what I felt while watching in respect to my athletic career in endurance sports, namely triathlons. By the next episode, know that I'm gonna go all into talking about the it and sharing who I felt a mini crush towards. Here's a secret, there's more than one wink.
Enjoy today's episode and share with your friends and family!

I'm back, what more can I say? Well, there's quite a bit actually. For now, I'm making my entrance back to podcasting, spilling some updates on what I've been up to and where I've been, and mostly talking about how truly challenging and depressing it is to figure out what it is you'd want to do for the rest of your life. Yes, we're talking about finding our passions and life career goals or rather the lack there of./
In today's episode, I mainly discuss how I've struggled (and continue to) with finding a genuine passion and goal to strive towards in life. We go over how this feels, but mostly how I believe we can all overcome this slowly but surely. Join me for some relatable feels, advice/methods I think are worth implementing in life for any sort of positive change, and for the sake of joining since it's been awhile and I miss you :)

Do you have no idea how to look for a comfortable, yet supportive walking/running shoe for any situation? As someone who knows his shoes and feet (not in a kinky way), as well as working with a plethora of individuals looking for the right shoe, it dawned on me that people don't know shoes even though it's something we wear virtually every day. Yeah we'll pick a shoe based off aesthetics and a shoe size that doesn't feel extremely tight, but there are other crucial factors to consider if you want to improve your feet health and feel super comfy.
In today's episode I cover the very basics in finding the right shoe no matter the intended purpose, but it'll mainly be geared towards shoes for walking and running. On a separate note, I also felt compelled to explore one of many practices that I do myself which helps not only in better understanding others regardless who they are, but also become more compassionate.
Enjoy~

Let's keep things short and juicy. In this episode, Joey is spilling tea on his experiences on working at a specialty running shop as a retail associate/outfitter, how that changed his outlook on potential careers, and customer interaction stories. Let's be honest, it's mostly venting and sharing juicy stories on working with a variety of customers.

Are you still feeling the feels from those Kdra... I mean from the love lingering since Valentines Day? I'll admit it, I've been feeling things because of KDramas these days, which made me recall my "first" romantic experience ever. However, this "first" is technically not true because although someone else liked me and I went what may seemed like dates, my stupendous oblivious butt was not aware of it whatsoever. This "first" experience was filled with misunderstandings from so many angles and I'm hear to tell it without throwing anyone under the bus and spilling scalding hot tea that'll hurt anyone.
In this episode, I share my "first" romantic experience that involved a gay man and talk about my oblivious outlook on this situation at the time, as well as the misunderstandings that took place. Please understand that in no shape or form am I making fun of anyone or dissing anyone's feelings. This story is one where I laugh at myself regarding how my oblivious nature towards romance and dating resulted in a few predicaments.
Enjoy~

Although Valentines Day is already over, I'm still feeling quite a bit of love in the air, or is it because I've been binging Kdramas lately? Whatever the case may be (it's definitely those Kdramas), I spent my Valentines Day alone and that has been a normal trend throughout my entire life. No one to give those elementary candy grams to, ask to be my Valentine in high school, or even someone to take out for dinner with a bundle of roses to give in college. Other than a few fruitless dating experiences, my life is devoid of romance and I think I know why.
In this episode, I analyze and discuss my thoughts on why I struggle in dating and love as well as spilling tea on some stories. I hope my experiences are able to help you in your love life because I wouldn't ant you to struggle like I still do to this day! Enjoyyy <33333

Did you know that men also have eating disorders? Though the answer may be obvious (btw it's yes), why don't we hear about it like we do with eating disorders among women? Although both genders experience similar situations with eating disorders, the factors and mindsets that play into this could be vastly different. Relative to women, there are many body types that have been normalized among men from being skinny to obese. What supports this notion are male influencers out in the world who lead lifestyles or attain successes that men strive for from being big n' boss to those sexy actors. What doesn't help is the typical male mindset of "being a man", which usually entails not being vulnerable and open with others and themselves about their struggles. While quietly struggling with the perfect male image that we wish to attain, eating disorders are likely to develop.
In this episode, we're continuing off of last week's episode regarding our relationship with food where we're taking a deep dive into male eating disorders and my personal experiences struggling with anorexia and bulimia.
DISCLAIMER: I, Joey Llewellyn, am not an expert or specialist in eating disorders nor am I fit to provide professional advice for this. Please contact your doctor or another health professional regarding your eating disorder and dietary concerns/questions.
PSA: If you are looking for support, resources, and treatment options for you or a loved one due to an eating disorder, I have provided a link to the National Eating Disorder Association contact page. If you or someone is at risk of being harmed, please call 911 immediately.

Since the pandemic began, hate crime against Asian Americans have become more prevalent and on the rise. We see this in many forms from racist insults to senseless acts of violence that are based on ignorance and irrational lines of thinking. What's even more tragic is that the rise in high-profile attacks against Asian Americans is occurring among the elderly. Unfortunately, these cases goes unheard of for the most part which prompted me to talk about a tragic event that occurred on January 28, 2021 in the Anza Vista neighborhood of San Francisco, CA. During that Thursday morning, 84 y/o Vicha Ratanapakdee was brutally tackled by 19 y/o Antoine Watson and 20 y/o accomplice Malaysia Goo (who is deemed as an accessory in this case), while going on his routinely morning walk. Ratanapakdee later died due to sustained injuries on January 30, 2021 in the S.F. General Hospital. He was a gentle and beloved grandfather who emigrated from his home country Thailand to live with his family and take care of his grandchildren.
After learning about Ratanapakdee's background, I personally said "Why hate?". Why hate indeed? Hearing and seeing on the news about hate crimes that are harming POC is a huge issue, however, we can't just continue vocalizing our personal thoughts on this matter and screaming at the top of our lungs without plans of action. In today's episode, I provide background information on this case from an objective stance, talk about how I feel about this case & hate crime in general, and offer what I believe is a progressive approach towards discussing, developing, and taking affirmative action on solutions to eliminate hate crime and those of similar nature that a handful of SJWs (social justice warriors) are not doing.
If you'd like to support the family of Vicha Ratanapakdee, his son-in-law Eric Lawson created a gofundme page to raise money for his funeral and memorial legacy fund. I've provided a link to this below.
In honor and memory of those who have fallen to hate, ignorance and prejudice, let us all protect our family, friends, and communities, as well as bringing awareness & peaceful solutions to these tragedies.

Whenever we see our favorite athlete on the court, track, gym, or field, we aspire to become like them in their tenacity, success, mental fortitude, and positive outlook on life. However, that's not always the case for what the athlete is truly experiencing. Whether you're a professional athlete or someone just getting their toes wet into the fitness pool, we've experienced issues with our body image and have been on a crusade to burn away the fat or to look "better". We look at ourselves and say "I'm not good enough..." and proceed on to push ourselves harder during our training and with our diet to the point where the process is no longer enjoyable and you become doubtful of the progress you make. Our relationship with our body and the food we fuel ourselves with supports us along our fitness journey or athletic career, however just like with toxic relationships, it can bring us down.
In today's episode, I'm taking a deep dive into the issues that arise in body image and food for both athletes and those in fitness. I share my thoughts and opinions on why an athlete may not share their personal struggles since it's something we don't hear to often within the athletic and sports communities. I also share my experiences with body image issues as a person and athlete, and how that ultimately led me to develop an eating disorder called bulimia.
In this episode, I didn't really focus on giving advice or hot tips on how to handle these situations. Instead, I wanted to bring more awareness to the impact that body image and our relationship with food has on not just our mental health, but also life in general. However, I do hope that my experiences is insightful, makes you feel less alone, and provides a positive outlook on your situations!

Crazy events are happening throughout the first month of the 2021 year, but a recent event has shown the power of the average persons against big time investors in Wall Street. Yes, I'm talking about the events involving redditors buying shares from Gamestop which resulted in a HUGE increase in value and screwed over investors who're short-selling and hedge funds in Wall Street by billions of dollars. What ensued from this was platforms where shares could be bought/sold, such as Robinhood, halted transactions involving Gamestop shares. There's a lot to unpack and clarify especially if you don't know economic terminology like me.
As a disclaimer, I'm not a credible source of information for the news or the economy. Please use this episode as a means of entertainment, clarification on terminology used that most Americans don't know of, and general background information. Please visit a reliable new source to gain more in depth information regarding these events.

I'm back from my one week break! Thank you all for waiting and I hope y'all had a wonderful last week. With new changes coming our way, as well as for the nation, I'm also making change for this podcast. Don't worry, it's not another name change or anything too drastic.
In today's episode, I'll be trying out a new format for episodes where I'll be speaking more freely and off the top of my head without sacrificing the quality (I hope!). The reason being is I'm burning out from trying to achieve super top notch episodes while providing Grade A content, which I hope I'm doing so nonetheless. However, focusing mainly on this has not made the process enjoyable, so we're changing things up a bit. With this change, I'm sharing my thoughts and speculations on why people may "enjoy" stationary cardio and whether those who claim to study/work while on that stationary bike are actually being productive or sacrificing the workout. I also clear up some possible misunderstandings and spill some tea on my interaction with Mizuno girl. Wanna know who Mizuno girl is? Listen to find out! :D
If you have any suggestions that you believe would improve this podcast, reach out to me! I'll be pleased to hear from ya!

Happy Friday!!! Today's Morning Tea episode is unfortunately not what you'd expect.... After listening to the original episode that was suppose to be up today, I decided to scrap it because it felt wrong to him and his morals as a respectful human. As a result, there's not a whole lotta tea to spill today, BUT there is some! As a way to pay for my sin of not giving y'all a proper episode and announcing earlier than later, I'll be sharing a battle rap that he made back in high school. Enjoy!
ANNOUNCEMENT: I will be taking a week long break from this podcast starting next week in order to work on other responsibilities. I will be back on January 26th (last week of this month). In the mean time, tune into my other episodes and use the time to contact me via email, social media, OR the official input form where you can give me any suggestions for episodes. Whichever is most convenient for you, I provided links to all of them down below.
Have a great Friday, weekend, and next week!!!

Welcome back? Welcome to? Well, with this new year and some serious reflections, welcome to the NEW but same ol' podcast, the Half of This (aka HoT). Yes, Joey changed up the name for this show with good intentions and reasons that actually tie into imposter syndrome.
Imposter syndrome is the feeling of being a phony and out of fear for being called out by others, we tend to overwork ourselves in becoming the person we think we should be or don't believe that we deserve in having the achievements and success we attain. Joey has experience greatly experienced this throughout his life in various fields ranging from athletics, undergraduate research, dating/social situations, and his struggles with his identity as a White-Korean male. With all of the objective information put out online that we could read/watch, sometimes we just need to listen to someone else talking about their experiences + thoughts on imposter syndrome in order to gain a deeper insight in our own struggles, but to also feel less alone.
In today's episode, Joey will taking a deep dive into what is imposter syndrome, its five types, who it affects & how, his experiences struggling & coping with it, and how he has dealt with this for the better! If you are someone who thinks or knows they have imposter syndrome, I hope this episode is enjoyable yet insightful!
If you'd like to read more about imposter syndrome and gain a more in-depth understanding of it, I will provide links to the articles that I used for this episode below!
PSA: If you are someone that is experiencing emotional distress or other mental health concerns, I encourage you to participate in a safe yet enjoyable activity to relieve the distress, reach out to a close friend/family member whom you could talk to, or call/text the national SAMHSA disaster distress hotline to talk to a trained crisis counselor. A happy Friday to you, everyone, Joey and hooray for the WEEKEND!!! A lot has happened this past week, students going back to school from winter break, having fun laying siege on the capitol, and whitewashing the game of mahjong. Joey is quite certain that you already know about the first two events (definitely that 2nd one), but have you heard about yet another case of cultural appropriation regarding the attempt to "refresh" the tile-based game with a long standing history dating back to the Qing dynasty in China, mahjong? If you haven't heard about this, you're in for a tasty and steaming hot cup of tea.
Today's Morning Tea episode is the hottest cup yet since Joey nearly burned his throat towards the end of the episode and began to sound quite raspy (seriously, he started to sound raspy). A Dallas-based company called The Mahjong Line, cofounded by three White American women, is accused of whitewashing the game mahjong, making this another case of cultural appropriation. While feeling very baffled by this, Joey did his homework to find out what happened and why. He also gives his hot takes on the situation itself, the company's apology letter, and the types of statements + comments made by those who're rightfully upset by this ignorant blunder. Want to find out what exactly happened? What did these three women (and others) do that would be considered as an act of cultural appropriation? How bad was their apology letter? Should those affected be allowed to berate, harshly criticize, and even threaten people such as these three women? To find out this and even more, listen to today's episode!

It's the first Tuesday episode of 2021 and we are NOT off to a good start, or at least I hope we aren't. Many of us are happily setting up positive life changing new year's resolutions and are feeling the hype of 2021 (since we all know how 2020 went....). Though we're hyped for a new year and perhaps a new you, we mustn't get drunk off of the excitement and anticipation from embarking on this campaign towards working on yet another new year's resolution(s). It's all fun and games until later down the road where we begin to feel unmotivated, doubtful that you'd attain this resolution, and ultimately give up. Though Joey has not really done a new year's resolution before, he has definitely been there with other goals especially within mental health and fitness. However, the awkward halfie himself is making a change for the better this year by having three new year's resolutions. Want to find out what Joey's resolutions are? What are his thoughts on new year's resolutions? What does he plan to do to set himself up for a successful year? Join Joey as he unpacks his NON-WOO WOO thoughts, opinions, and methods on how one can set themselves up to not fail perhaps yet another new year's resolutions.
Quick note: The content of this episode is encouraged to be applied for any and all of your goals in life. Please, take whatever you find that's helpful from this episode for your own benefit. Thank you and best wishes on your new year's resolutions for 2021!

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!! It's 2021 where all of us are hoping some goodness and positivity comes our way, especially with the vaccine distribution. Nonetheless we're welcoming 2021 with open arms while kicking 2020 off a cliff (too harsh? maybe not). So, let's set this first day of the year right with some Morning Tea and boy oh boy does Joey have some tasty, hot tea brewed up for you. In this week's Morning Tea, Joey briefly talks about his 2nd attempt at attending a virtual "dating" event hosted by the Facebook group page, Subtle Asian Dating (aka SAD), but that's just the appetizer. While Joey also made a self-auction post on the SAD page in hopes of meeting new people and potentially a special someone, he does indeed meet someone "special". In fact, Joey thought that his conversation with this "special" someone was so "great", that he had to share it on today's episode. What happened at this 2nd virtual date? Who's this "special" someone? And why are we using so many "quotations"? Listen to today's episode to find out! PSA: Joey does not condone throwing people under the bus or harming/seeking out revenge on those who are incredibly rude, inconsiderate, or did you/someone else wrong. Approach these people with maturity and handle this appropriately because you nor Joey are like these people such as this "special" someone, and are instead amazing, successful individuals. If you are experiencing extreme distress, contact a family member, friend, or therapist/counselor (if you have one) to relieve any negativity. Or feel free to reach out to Joey so that y'all can spill some tea together and grow stronger from any negative experiences. Thank you!

This is the last Tuesday episode of 2020 and Joey is not feeling it. Since he is recovering from a whimsical xmas marathon run, his energy levels are not matching the excitement for the new year filled with joy, resolutions, and vaccines. So to make it easy on the halfie himself, he is taking a personality test to see the kind of person he is that will be entering the new year. We're also breaking the 1 hour point!!!! Listen find out Joey's personality type while he talks at length about some of the statements made throughout this test. Happy New Years to everyone and we'll see you on this Friday on another episode of Morning Tea.

Last week's episode was maybe a bit too serious, but hopefully insightful. Towards the end, Joey did turn things around with his life and the episode where things ended more on a positive note! However, it wasn't really talked about all too much. So, this week's episode will continue off from last week where Joey talks more about how these podcasts and YouTube channels that he discovered helped him get back on that saddle and staying on it. With this even more positive and insightful episode, I wish you all a merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!! ANNOUNCEMENT: A new series called Morning Tea will be published every Friday! Set the mood for your day/weekend by listening to Joey spilling steamy tea on himself where he'll share juicy stories and get quite passionate about certain controversial/trendy topics in these shorter episodes. Tune in on your favorite podcast platform like Spotify, and even on YouTube! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CONTACT & SUPPORT - website: https://anchor.fm/dwellyntiger - instagram: instagram.com/thejoeyll - email: dwellyntiger@gmail.com - youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCvFbnk015sVn1rDM-zHwF-g
