Life is crazy busy and between errands, school drop-offs, and meal prep and if you’re anything like me, we forget to model worship and devotion to God with our families. But don’t worry, this is designed to be a quick, supplemental devotion for you and the family! Take us with you to school, workouts, grocery shopping, or for some after-dinner scripture time, reflection, and prayer. Two things to note: 1. I hope you join me each week to jump-start your family devotion time and 2. this is in no way to replace your own personal devotion time. My desire is you and your family use this opportunity to cultivate deep interactions with each other over God’s word.
Family Discussion Questions:
- When do you find yourself loving work, hobbies, and activities more than God? Remember, good things can just as easily become idols.
- How can you change the way you do or think about these "activities" to make Christ the center of all you do as a family?

Family Discussion Questions:
- You never have to remind yourself to eat or drink. Your body reminds you of your need for food and water. Just like the body needs food and water every day, your soul also needs nourishment. What things can we do every day to nourish our souls? (I.E. prayer, scripture reading, memorization, etc.)
- Just like there unhealthy foods and drinks (Overindulgence in sugary treats, soda, etc.) that cause us to be unhealthy in our bodies, the soul can also suffer in this way. What things have we allowed to take precedent over healthy spiritual rhythms that we need to decrease or eliminate? (Think tv, social media, sports, or time-sucking activities).
- How will this week look different in light of this scripture?

- Take a few moments and confess your sins together. Remind yourselves that no matter how you sin, Jesus still loves you and forgives those who come to Him.
- What gift does Jesus promise to those who mourn their sin in Matt. 5:4? (Parents, think and share of a time where you have felt the comfort of the Gospel in your own lives).

Focus on Matt. 5:3, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
- In what ways does God show His Love for us? Read Psalm 23:1-3 and point out how Jesus shows us His love.
- Is there a promise to claim, a truth to believe, or an attitude to live out? (What do we receive when we become "poor in spirit"?)

Special Note:
In this episode, we mentioned some of the things the world has experienced over the past 12 months. Be conscientious about what you share and discuss with your family. If you have really young listeners do not feel the necessity to invite them into the nuances of all that is happening. I would encourage you to relate this Psalm to their own lives with real stories from your own family context. To the small world of a child, things like lost toys, bad weather, and scraped knees are monumental! Let us not belittle their feelings or give them more than they can carry.
