Additionally, she will provide suggestions on how to start the journey back to a healthier equilibrium.

Become an ego-free leader and let go of the need to be right!
As a leader, it can be tough to admit when we're wrong or to acknowledge our ego, but it's essential to become an ego-free leader. In this conversation, hear from Jillian, who made a commitment to work on her ego when she noticed it coming through. We also discuss the connection between the need to be right and the inability to have radical candor.
Plus, we explore how humility is a crucial part of being an ego-free leader. Humility and ego don't go in the same sentence, but having humility takes confidence. An ego-free leader has so much humility that their cup is overflowing and can pour into their team, teaching them to have humility too.

Time management is the skill that can make or break you. If you don't work at developing it, you will likely reach a point where your schedule is no longer sustainable.
In the early days of Fit-Flavors, time management was fun for me, almost like a game, but as time went on my schedule got increasingly complicated to the point that I was drowning in it. I had to learn and adapt to all of the things I had taken on if I wanted to be successful.
What did that look like? Well, I had to get some help and I had to invest my time in the areas that most needed my attention. I started color blocking my schedule and noticing the balance I had between work and life in a given week.
If you don't feel like you have enough time or you feel like you aren't spending your time on the right things, it can be so helpful to sit down and set up time blocks! You have to understand your schedule, how you work best, and move things around the week from there.

It can be incredibly frustrating when you have this big idea in your head but it feels like it's still in "la la land" and you're not quite sure how to bring it to life. That's where a standard comes in. It's the key to taking your vision and making it something tangible and achievable. And there's one exercise that I've found to be extremely helpful in bringing that vision to life: the "5 Why" exercise. It's simple but powerful in giving you a better understanding of the problem and will help you come up with a solution.
But, once you clearly understand the vision, it's not over yet. The next step is to build the rest of the standard - and this is where the real work comes in. You'll need to consider scope, definitions, procedures, and references. And most importantly, you have to ask yourself "what does good look like?" so that you can set clear and achievable goals.

Without them, business owners run the risk of confusion and miscommunication, which can result in delays and subpar results. Join my conversation with Cyd Rechtin as we share practical handles around how to set good and effective standards.

What I have realized when it comes to stress is that the more education I can get around it, the better I can take a proactive role in my own health. The 80/20 philosophy is the nutrition philosophy that we use at fit-flavors as well as my life philosophy. I think it is the most sustainable philosophy when it comes to health and nutrition. I want to talk about excuses because I think sometimes they hold us back. And many people don't realize how much they can hold us back. There is a fine line between making an excuse and honoring yourself. When we can start to identify where those excuses are coming into our lives and what they are speaking over us, we can begin to stand against them and lean on what is true and what we desire.

A lot of times people overthink nutrition in general. I've been in this industry for a very long time and I've been through ebbs and flows myself personally of not understanding nutrition, coming to the realization I didn't understand nutrition, and then learning nutrition. Because I think when we start off, especially for those of us who are in the health and fitness field, we think we should have a better grasp on nutrition. When we think we get a little bit of understanding, we feel confident, and quite frankly, we might not truly understand it as a whole. I can say today I am still learning so much about nutrition. It's one of those things that, like anything with the human body, you can never fully get it perfected.
There's always new information coming out in medical and nutrition journals and blogs about how our bodies process foods and there’s always something to be learning. I have people around me who’s job it is at fit-flavors to be constantly learning to make sure that fit-flavors stays up to date with any of the new information.
A lot of times people don't understand nutrition fully or they jump ahead. They often jump ahead of their current knowledge base to feel like experts in the field, when in reality, they're missing the basic pieces. Another analogy for this is to say that one is doing calculus before they understand basic math.
I really just want to talk about what this means and how you can look inwards to determine if this is you and if you have room for growth.

Something I do a lot at fit-flavors is work with flavor profiles. These are the elements in food that give it its taste. When you compile them together in a dish that is when you can really enhance the experience of the meal.
I love this kind of stuff, this is what gets me super excited about cooking, is playing around with stuff like this. So let's talk about these a little bit more in-depth so you can kind of understand them and maybe this will inspire you next time you are in the kitchen to get outside of your comfort zone and work with some flavor profiles to enhance your dish.

If you're a fitness enthusiast, then there's a chance you've experienced an injury or discomfort in your back, neck, knees, or hips. Honestly, with the amount of time we spending punching away on our laptops and cell phones, we're pretty much all at risk for neck and lower back issues.

When we deal with things that are challenging sometimes what our minds will do is create lies. And then we start role playing out those lies in our head and we make them way worse than they need to be and some of us can get sucked into those lies.
It's our positivity and our mindset that keeps us moving forward in the right direction.
There's a whole explanation of the armor of God in the Bible, it's amazing. And how he gives us the proper armor to fight off these lies.
When I am grounded in my faith and I put my trust in him the lies just bounce right off of me because I know that they are not real because I am focused and I am in alignment with my faith and my truth. So I know the answer is always God, to everything that we are struggling with. And he can get us through anything. He is enough.

"When we harness our mindset we are strong and resilient, like a brick wall. Without that control, we are feathers in the wind."
Any change requires focus. When making a lifestyle change, it's imperative to think about your mindset.

Do you struggle with deciding what to eat for a snack on a daily basis? Or when you should eat depending on the rest of your schedule? I know at times in my life, I have severely struggled with just these things. When I originally entered the health and fitness space, I was dating a bodybuilder and got engrained in the typical bodybuilding diet and training methodology of bulk and cut cycles. Through time, I have found that what works for me is far from where I originally started as I prefer to remain fairly lean and agile year-round.
The great thing about nutrition is that it is specific to the individual and we can all find what works best for us! Today, we will discuss some aspects of nutrition around snacking, meal timing, caffeine intake, and macronutrient intake. I hope this helps you have a more balanced relationship with food and helps to overcome the “I can’t have that, I am on a diet” mentality!

Today sucked the life out of me in every way, shape, and form, and I started to kind of feel defeated. My husband and I call these days Test Days. Any time we're having just a terrible day and we label it as a Test Day my mindset changes, and I'm like... test me. When these days come up, how do you react? How do you mentally process it all? What benefits can you find that will come from the day? How can you recharge your batteries after the day? Test days are days that shape you into a more seasoned person. Test days are days that we either get ahead or we get behind. Today was just one of those days for me.

Today, we will be discussing the importance of be honest with yourself when it comes to nutrition. This is something I struggled with at one point in my life because I wanted to have the appearance of knowing more than actually did. When I realized that you can lie to other people all you want, but you cannot lie to yourself and ever really believe it, my relationship with nutrition changed in a positive direction.
Today we’ll talk about taking ownership of your nutrition as it is the foundation for the rest of your life. Listen in as we review some educational steps that I took to overcome some of my knowledge deficiencies and get more comfortable with nutrition decisions. Some questions I addresses in this episode: “Where do I start?”, “How do I know if I need it?”, and “What does it matter?”. We’ll also review the importance of the 80:20 rule and how this helps make your lifestyle and nutrition sustainable.

We have expert Bryce Lob, Owner of Una Vida tequila, joining the Owning the Wait podcast to help walk us through all things tequila.

If having a mindset perspective when it comes to nutrition is something you struggle with, this podcast is for you. Today on Owning the Wait, I'll be diving into what's going on when you're struggling in your head with nutrition, and how to adjust your approach. I lived in this mindset for many years and getting out of it was the best thing I did for my business and my life. Your perspective on nutrition is how you talk about food, it's the rules that you set for yourself, and those rules are dictated and fostered by your actions, thoughts, and goals. I am on a mission to learn and teach as much as I humanly can about nutrition, and it starts with changing your mindset.

I started Fit Flavors 12 years ago after becoming really frustrated that my personal training clients had a really hard time with learning how to eat right and executing a clean eating lifestyle. I fell in love with cooking and today we have a revolving menu that changes every season. We are always planning months in advance, and I got to thinking about how important it is to be passionate and clear about what you're doing, and constantly be wanting to innovate, move forward, and grow. Today on the Owning the Wait Podcast, I'm open about the ebbs and flows of my life, from moving frequently, to starting businesses, to navigating life during a pandemic. There's been a lot of change in my life, a lot of instability, and a lot of trying to get myself rooted and grounded. We are always trying to grow, evolve, and innovate, and we need to be moving forward to not get stuck where we are.

I've never been able to accomplish or achieve much with a pity party mentality. I'm sure everyone listening is dealing with something in life you would like to change. As things come up, we have the opportunity to attack things and really deal with them, or to ignore them, make excuses, and victimize ourselves. Today's podcast is all about encouraging you to own the wait and the process to get through the setback, because when you can go at it with a clear mindset and view it as part of your positive journey, it becomes a lot easier!

In this episode, we are reversing the roles! My husband, Jason, and I are reminiscing and answering questions about our earliest days with fit-flavors. We are sharing tons of throwback stories; living in a house with 9 refrigerators around our living room, giving birth while making a to-do list for the company, dropping my husband off at the medical center to get back to my clients' turkey meatloaf. Jason tells us all about watching fit-flavors grow from 10 pieces of Tupperware, to it taking over our home, to moving to a rental kitchen, to building a kitchen and seeing it come to life. Today I'm talking through how I worked to shift my mindset from self-sabotage, to putting my energy towards my relationship with God, and what effect that mindset shift had on not just fit-flavors, but my family's lives.

Today we are talking about nutrition and how you perceive your meal times, meal plans, and diet, and opening up your mind to see it from a different perspective. How we talk about nutrition is the energy we are feeding ourselves to either keep us on the yoyo or to get us off of the yoyo. Is this going to nourish your body and promote a happy, healthy lifestyle? Or are you putting yourself in a box with a bunch of rigid rules, and if you come out of the box, you're a failure?

Caitlin Murphy is the founder and CEO Global Gateway Logistics out of St. Louis, MO. She has a very interesting background, having lived in Bejing two different times in her life. She joins the Owning the Wait podcast with an encouraging story of how God moves in business.
Did you realize God wants to be in your business and your career?! I’ll use this platform as a way to highlight the cross section of business and faith. Caitlin’s story and presence will show you why this is so important.
In 2020, like so many of us, Caitlin’s business experienced transformational change. She talks us through how God led the way, using prayer warriors and acting in faith to get 2 million masks to our US health workers. With so much stacked against her, she and her company put all faith in God and he delivered.
Caitlin also talks about her spiritual disciplines and how she learned and instilled practices in her life and her kid’s lives that point to God.
This episode will teach you what it means to own the wait.

Your business owns you. That’s why you have to love it, guys. On this episode, I am literally on the highway in St. Louis driving around one of my delivery trucks doing a food transfer from one store to another to level out inventory. This is something I have done since fit-flavors had it’s first brick and more tan 7.5 years ago.
When you’re a business owner, you need to be okay doing the dirty work because that’s how you stay connected to your business and your people. If you’re trying to start something or you’re running something and working for someone. It’s not that it’s about doing more work, but expect to do more than you expected. To be successful, put in the time, have follow through, you have to be okay failing and coming back from those failures. When you come back from a failure, there’s something more to learn.
This episode will encourage you to leave that victim mentality behind and do the damn work. You’re never too good for the dirty work.

Portion control is all about sustainability. If you’re used to going out to eat, you’re used to getting over-served.
So, what is proper portion control? This episode will teach you my philosophy around portion control, one of the 3 pillars of nutrition that I build my company, fit-flavors, around.
You may already know that a well-balanced meal should contain a quality protein, starch, and veggie, but how much do you need? Or better yet, what does a proper portion look like? Let’s talk about it!

On this episode, we chat about one of the 3 pillars of fit-flavors' philosophy on nutrition: quality.
Quality food means real, minimally processed food that your body knows how to digest and use as fuel. When you eat mostly high-quality food, you will feel full and energized.
The fact of the matter is we can't get 100% away from processed foods (and we wouldn't want to). Eating 0% processed foods restricts us unnecessarily and this all-or-nothing mindset often leads to a yo-yo of eating poorly. The key is balancing processed foods with high-quality foods. It's all about balance.
Today, I will share more details about what quality food looks like and why it's important!

Executing your spiritual routine is no different than going through a lifestyle change. On this episode, I want to help you start your spiritual discipline by sharing how I made mine. It wasn't as easy as "read the bible and all of a sudden be close with God." No. I had shit to process. But God always shows up.
