The first thing Moses does when the Israelites survive the Red Sea crossing is to sing praises to God's strength. He immediately recognized that they had witnessed something that only God could do. That no matter how much they rallied their own strength and grit, they could never have literally parted a sea to save millions of people and conveniently swallowed up their enemy. Moses could be pretty smart sometimes. Throughout the bible, there are verses and lessons that give us wisdom regarding how weak we are but we have God to fill the gap. This applies to parenting too. We could read or even write all the parenting books in the world, but without going to the One who actually created us, we can't even fathom the power we could wield with him.

Is your calendar full of the kids' activities? Do you have a to-do list a mile long? Me too. These are things that try to steal my attention and time away from God. But we need to put Him first. Anything that tries to get in the way of that has the potential to become an idol. Let's revamp our calendars and to-do lists so that the enemy does not have a foothold in our calendars. Let's put God in His rightful place: first.

Daily diligent seeking of God is necessary to keep us built up in our faith. We need to seek His Word regularly to continually put on the armor of God. Some days we have more questions than answers, but some days we can just sit and be thankful. I stepped out my Bible study routine and decided to listen and praise Him before opening my study instead of after, and it became an even more personalized and intimate experience than I expected. God is so good. He loves us and wants us to just sit at His feet, rest, and be refreshed in His presence. Join me.

When we have to watch our kids walk through the same sinful behavior repeatedly, it can be heartbreaking, frustrating, exhausting, etc . . .
Just when we want to give up or yell or more, we need to remember that no matter what choices our kids make, our own hope can still rest in Jesus. He doesn't change even when the circumstances do. He isn't moved by storms. He is steadfast in them. He is always available when we need Him and He is our sanctuary.
Hebrews 6:19-20 says "We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek."
Let Jesus be the anchor in the storm and the Captain of the seas. Though we steer our rudders, we take our directions from Him. When we do that, we will be safe, we will find rest, and we will keep our hope that is in Him alone. And our kids will see that and hopefully follow suit. Don't give up; give them up to Him.

Fear not, mama! God’s got this. We tend to worry as parents. It’s natural. But what does worry bring us: fear, anxiety, stress, physical discomfort, and more. Instead, leave your worries at the Cross and trust God with our and our kids’ futures. He has them in the palm of His hands and He’s not letting go. Let this be your Mother’s Day encouragement. I like to think of churches as outposts of faith. It is a place where Christians can gather, be equipped and encouraged, and then be sent out to share the Truth of God. We can experience worship and praise together, stir one another up to good works, and battle the enemy together. No country ever enters a war alone. They don't just send one guy to fight. They recruit and train an army. They arm them with weapons. They make a plan of attack and defense. They continuously train together and separate. We are in a spiritual battle every day. We are not meant to fight it alone. We gather together with other believers, we are armed with the Truth of God and imbued with the Holy Spirit, Who helps us plan our attacks and defenses. He is our ONE defense. His Word is a double-edged sword. But we need our army if we are going to win. Alone, the enemy has us cornered easily. But with the army of believers and the Holy Spirit, we already have victory because Christ already overcame sin and death with His blood and resurrection. Going to church regularly and building relationships with other believers is one of the best weapons against the enemy. Don't just make church a checklist item, make it a part of your life so that you can both receive and dole out encouragement and love. It is vital to your battle against the enemy and the hope that Jesus gave.

Before we can use the Scriptures for disciplining and raising our children, we must first know it ourselves. I made the mistake of trying to teach what I didn’t know,which did not go well, but I have since learned from that mistake. I hope this testimony encourages you to know God before you make Him known. We cannot instruct someone about something or someone we don’t know ourselves. Dive into the Scriptures and enjoy God’s goodness!

Ah, teenagers. Independent, passionate, creative, hungry, loud, argumentative, and growing. They are on the cusp of becoming adults, but not quite there yet. The age of wanting to be older, but lacking the maturity. It is a fun and tough age to parent all in one. I love being a mother of two teens. I have one that is almost ready to launch into adulthood and one that is just trying to figure out why she is so emotional and hasn't quite learned self-control yet. They are like bookends. I also have the privilege of leading a teen core group at our local Community Bible Study group and have really fallen in love with this group each year. I love being able to have real discussions with them about God's Word and how it applies to their worlds. I say "their worlds" because though we all live in the same fallen world, they each have their own perspective and some still think they are the sun in their own universe, while others have figured out that God is the center. I love the mix and that's what brought me to today's topic: mandatory church attendance for teens. Should we or should we not?
There are so many factors to consider here: their age, the church, the reasons, their peers, our own priorities and rules, etc.
Join me today as I dive into some of these and hopefully encourage and equip you with some ideas to help you if/when you have to make that decision. It's good to know ahead of time and have the plan to address this question. If only we could be prepared for all things that parenthood throws at us! Bless you on this journey we call parenting!
My Top 5 Reasons Teens Should Attend Church:
Overall, attending church can provide teenagers with a supportive community, opportunities for spiritual growth, exposure to positive values, mentorship, and service opportunities. However, whether or not to attend church is ultimately a personal decision that should be based on individual beliefs, values, and preferences.

The first thing that Moses did when they were led out of Egypt and went through the Red Sea was to praise God. He was so relieved, and in awe of God‘s power that he couldn’t help but pour out praise to God. The Israelites joined in because they saw his example. My question to you is: how are your children learning to worship God and put Him first in their lives if you are not doing it yourself? If your kids are little and distracting during worship, I’m here to give you a few tips that I used when mine were little to help you put the Lord first and let your kids see that example. Training our children in the way they should go also involves preparing them for the battles ahead in their lives. We have no idea what battles they are going to face in this world, but we do know that there are giants out there waiting in the land that they are to claim as long as they go with God. How are we going to help them before they even know the battles that they’re going to face? We need to arm them with wisdom from God in the form of studying his word regularly, learning how to pray, and learning how to repent when they have turned away from him in any way. With these things they can face any powers and principalities they come against in this world, and they can stay strong in their relationship with God, because with God all things are possible. So listen to this podcast to learn a lot more about what God’s been doing in training for the battles in my kids’ lives so that maybe you can glean for your battles. When we go through trials and sufferings with our children, we often get caught up in trying to change them, and when it doesn’t work out, the little bit of hope that we have in our heart gets dashed every time. When we hope in the things of this earth, we are going to get disappointed. When we hope in the glory of God, we are in a good place, because He never changes, He never leaves us, and He should get all the glory. Let our hope be in the glory of God both through the trial and at the end of the trial.

When you look back on your childhood, I hope that you have great memories. I have a lot of great memories. Most of them were just temporary moments though. I will hold onto them forever because they were special. But my everyday life was not a catalog and certainly wasn't very pleasant. A daughter of a divorced couple, raised by a low-income single mother, living in a difficult neighborhood, moving from one evicted apartment to another one, I had very little consistency, no spiritual discipleship, and rarely had a parent at home to care for me. I was a latch-key kid of the '80s who learned how to grow up much younger than I would have liked. But I did it. And I survived. And I met Jesus in my mid-20s after searching for Him my whole life.
God does not waste anything. He doesn't waste words in His Word. He doesn't waste moments in our lives. Everything we experience is part of our testimony. How and when He chooses to use it is mostly unknown. This episode is my testimony of what He is doing in my heart, in my life, and hopefully in the lives of many others that are living that latch-key life now. This is a story of hope for when we fall short as parents. God redeems. Nothing is wasted. All will come to good in His perfect timing. Take heart, He has overcome the world and the imperfection of our parenting.

Oxford Languages defines "neighbor" as "a person living near or next door to the speaker or person referred to" and "(of a place or thing) be situated next to or very near (another)." We often think of this person as someone outside of our home, but the truth is that it is our very own domestic family that is our closest neighbor. Our spouse and children are our neighbors too. Do we follow the second greatest Commandment with them? Do we love them as we love ourselves? Do we treat them with neighborly affection and kindness or do they get the worst of us only? Do we save our best for others or do we also give it to them?
Years ago, when I first read the book "Triggers" by Amber Lia and Wendy Speake, I was convicted of this very thing. Here's my story of how God made a beautiful change in my heart through this realization.

Most of us have made resolutions upon the New Year. How many of you can say that you have kept them? I often will forget and get right back into my old habits. There's nothing wrong with starting good habits, but if we set expectations too high then we are more likely to break them and then just give up rather than editing them to be attainable. Small attainable goals are much better than huge oaths to ourselves. God tells us not to take oaths, but to "let our yes be our yes and our no be our no." Listen to hear how I am saying "Yes" this year as well as "No."

Whether you were ready for Christmas or not, it came. Many people ask throughout the week before Christmas if we are "ready." That's a heavy word. What does it mean to be ready? Whether we are ready or not, Christmas came and went just like it does every year. Christmas isn't about the busyness of getting ready. It is about the gift that God has given us through Jesus Christ. He gave us a gift that we actually can carry around with us all the time. For Christians, Christmas is every day because we have the Holy Spirit, God with us, Emmanuel's Helper to guide us. Christmas came and went, but that is just another day on the calendar.
Celebrate the glory of Christmas every day in your heart because Jesus is with us always. God's gift, Emmanuel, is with us. It's the gift that keeps on giving through salvation, eternal life, peace, hope, love, joy, self-control, kindness, and gentleness. The list could go on. How did you celebrate Advent and Christmas this year? Did you make the time or were you so busy that it just didn't happen the way you had hoped? We were pretty busy here and did what we could but tried to make every day count and point to Jesus. We are not perfect, but we try. Let me know how you celebrated Jesus this year.

After last week's episode, the irony still astounds me. And yet, I would expect nothing less of the devil to try to shake up the financial peace that I feel. He used deception, lies, and fear, as usual, to try to shatter the solid Rock that I stand on. I am standing stronger in my faith than ever thanks to last week's scam scare. If you live in fear of something, I encourage you to stay in the Word, in Prayer and strengthen your relationship daily with the Father because it will be the net that catches you. He wants us to lay our burdens and fears down at His feet and take His yoke upon us. It is much lighter. Don't let the rotten fruits of the enemy deceive and get you down. It's not worth it. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee before you (James 4:7).

On a scale from 1-10, 10 being the most, how comfortable are you about talking to your kids about money? Did you know that you can talk to them about money without talking to them about the specific details about your personal budget? It's true! I grew up in a house where money was a taboo topic of conversation. Therefore, I grew up not knowing anything about how to manage money. I was thrown into the real world, having to earn money to pay for college on my own, as well as somehow manage to budget for expenses like car insurance, gas, and food, with no wisdom on the subject. You may as well have thrown me to the wolves. It turns out that a lot of my assumptions about these things were right on, but unfortunately, they were not solid and I swayed from them a lot and suffered for it.
When my husband and I got married, we had to also merge our financial worlds into one. That has been quite a ride. There are still many habits that we are each trying to fix or form but because we have taken the time to invest into becoming knowledgeable about money, we have the vocabulary to have the conversation. We agreed that we wanted to make sure that we raise kids who are armed with biblical and practical wisdom that align so that they can do the best they can with this awesome gift that God has given each of us. It is a tool that we can use to love others through and with. We are not afraid to talk about money with our kids, and even talk about the mistakes we have made because we want them to do better than we did and be able to be a blessing in this world as well as have security. I pray that all future generations will somehow become wiser with finances and money than the previous generation. Time will tell.
Scriptures in this podcast:
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.
1 Tim. 6:10
He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity.
Eccl. 5:10
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Matt. 6:24
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
Prov. 3:9-10
Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Rom. 13:8
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matt. 6:21
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
Malachi 3:10
Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.
Prov. 11:4
Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;

We are not meant to be alone on this earth. God provided us with the Holy Spirit, God within us, so that we are able to constantly walk with God. When we have nothing to say but want to pray, He utters on our behalf. But we also were not meant to live without human companionship: friends.
Whether you are a loner or the poster child for extroverts, having at least one solid friend that you can count on and have fellowship with is part of how we are created. At least when Adam and Eve were kicked out of Eden they had each other! The separation from God was awful though. But that is something that we do not have to worry about if we have put our trust in Jesus. Because of Him, we have the Holy Spirit, Who is our bridge to God. Thanks to Jesus, we are righteous in God's eyes and no longer separated.

As we head into the busy holiday season, I want to remind you to find rest in the busyness of life. Many feel guilty about taking time for themselves, but you shouldn't. It doesn't mean that it is okay to just be lazy all of the time. That is not what I am referring to here. I am simply saying that you need to find out how your body and mind recharge and invest in a little bit of that time for you. This will help you serve others better. And it is important to take time to focus on God and rest in Him. He set aside the Sabbath day and blessed it so that we will have that example. He didn't need to rest. God doesn't get tired. But we need His example and His blessing. That is our day of rest to focus our hearts and souls on Him and dive into His Word to be refreshed and recharged in our spirit and souls. Take that time to honor Him and focus on Him and receive from Him the strength and rest that you need for the coming week.

Okay, this episode started out being all about teenagers: what we thought it would be like vs. what it is really like. But God had another plan, as usual. As the photo on my fridge says: "I plan. God laughs." This is just as true with parenting as anything else. I planned to be a mom from the age of 5. Yes, it is the only thing I was ever truly sure of. When I was a young 20-something, I read "all the books" on parenting. I knew what kind of parent I wanted to be and how I was going to discipline, encourage, educate, and entertain my children. Oh yes, I was going to be the perfect parent with children who never caused a scene. Yeah, right. Insert God's laughter here!
I want you to remember one thing: you are the parent of your child(ren) on purpose! God doesn't make mistakes. And you can TRUST HIM with your children's hearts. The moment you surrender your parenting to Him is the moment that brings true freedom. Trust Him with all of you and all of them. He is a faithful God and fulfills all of His promises. Continue to plant seeds of faith and trust in God in your kids' lives and you will see fruit.
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
If you do try to go it alone with your own knowledge base, you will fail more times and feel completely defeated. But if you trust in God and let Him guide you, you will not feel lost when you do fail. We will fall short, we are not perfect. But we have God to rely on and help us fill in the gaps where we fall short. He has infinite wisdom and is ready to pour it out generously to those who ask (James 1:5). Don't be afraid to ask, friends.
Thanks for listening to today's episode. Please share it with others who need to be reassured and reminded that God is there for them and that surrendering to Him is not a weakness but a strength. If this blessed you, would you please rate and review it so others can find the podcast and be blessed too? Have a blessed week!

When we choose to follow God, we inevitably become spiritual leaders to some, whether it is our own children, those of others, or even other believers. We need to consider how we are going to take responsibility for that role. What are some ways that you want to be "caught" working out God's plan for your life? How do you walk in the light of Jesus? Are there habits that you want to ensure your children build up to strengthen their relationship with the Lord?
Dive in with me and let's talk about what spiritual leadership looks like on different levels, with different people, and how we work it out with intention in our family. Thanks for joining me!

There are so many opportunities to get out and enjoy the last of the warm weather before the cold winter winds hit us. God spreads his palette of color all around us and we get to see the beauty that He provides for us each and every day. There are also many ways to spend time in our community, whether it is apple or pumpkin picking, harvest parties, or trick-or-treating. How do you like to gather together this time of year?
We'll be diving into a little bit of the history of Halloween and All Hallow's Eve and how God has shown His light on it to drive out the darkness. Everyone needs to make their own decisions regarding whether to recognize Halloween or not and there's no judgment here. But it's important that our children understand our decisions as well as those of others so that they can approach this world and their friends with knowledge, respect, and truth and stand firm in what they believe. Let's dive in!

Is there such a thing as being too comfortable in our walk faith? Do we easily take God's presence for granted? Is our inherent forgetfulness taking over the space where our trust should be? Maybe. There's a reason that we are meant to study God's Word daily and pray without ceasing. We need to stay alert and be watchful for a few things. The enemy is always on the prowl and has all the time in the world to wait for his moment to tempt us away from what God has for us. However, he only has until the return of Jesus, which we also need to be watching and ready for. That's when His time is up and we need to be ready to receive Him. We may not see that day while here on earth, but rest assured that we will see it from wherever we are on that day. So, do you need to stretch and renew your mind as much as I do? Let's do this together!

Many will suggest that we get in or stay in the habit of going to church. I would like to offer the idea that going to church is not meant to be a habit, but something that we live out each week. We are called by God to get together with believers on a regular basis to worship together, to hear the Word of God read and taught, to encourage one another, and to pray for one another (Hebrews 10:24-25). It is beneficial to our souls to know that we are not alone in our spiritual walk. Although each person will have their own path led by God, we meet others along that path that we can serve and be served by. We need others, specifically other believers so that we can be reminded of our purpose: to live out the Truth of the Gospel.
If we need that example from one another, how much more do our children need it? They need to see that it isn't just their parents who are teaching them about God and they are not the only kids being "forced" to go to church (because doesn't it feel like that sometimes as kids?). Church is a wonderful place to let others poor Truth into their hearts so they can wrestle with God and find their own faith path. Our path is not theirs, although we get to share it with them for a time. They will need to figure out their own relationship with Jesus and it's necessary to surround them with as many resources as we can (people included) to guide them along the way.
If you are not part of a bible-based church yet, I encourage you to find one and attend regularly, build relationships within that church body, and encourage your children to participate in any way they can, whether it is in the Children's or Youth Ministry or during worship and prayer. Let's come together as a family to praise and worship the Lord, lift one another up to Him, and be guided by the Truth that our leaders read out and teach each week. Our hearts, souls, and children, will be better for it.

It is a good thing that God created us to love our children unconditionally because they are constantly pulling at our patience when they just. don't. listen. Am I right?
We have a God who loves us unconditionally, which is great news because we are constantly screwing up too. It is .for this reason that we need Jesus. We cannot overcome our own sins through works Many of us have tried and failed miserably. The power of prayer is incredible and fruitful. God calls us to pray continuously as well as set an example for our children. 1 Timothy 2:1 says "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people." (ESV) Paul tells us that we are to pray on behalf of others just as the Lord has set up the Holy Spirit to do for us. Romans 8:26 assures us that "likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groaning too deep for words." I think that is amazing. If God has given us the Holy Spirit to do that for us, we need to also pay it forward toward our fellow man. Let's use this priceless gift to offer the power of prayer to others by lifting them up to the One who knows all. Come dive into more detail about this with biblical examples in this podcast.

God's strength is an infinite resource for us. So why are we always trying to do things on our own? This world is full of messages about being independent, self-reliant, and helping ourselves. That's what our kids see too. Let's alleviate that burden from them and encourage them to rely on God's strength and not just their own. Many places in the Bible remind us that God's strength is ready and waiting for us. He is with us in times of trouble and we can call on Him whenever we need Him.
I challenge you to spend your week encouraging your kids to tap into this valuable resource in your morning prayer time. Remember, when we don't "got this," God does.

Isaiah 41:10

Philippians 4:13
I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.

Let’s talk about tuck-in time. It’s been a long day and that glorious bedtime has finally arrived. The kids are clean and ready to go to sleep. As you go though the bedtime routine, you probably include prayer time. There are as many ways to do this as there are children. First, let’s break down the traditional bedtime prayer that most of us have memorized from our nursery rhyme books. Then let’s dig deeper and get more personal with God. Thanks for joining me today. Nighty night and sweet dreams!

Part of training our kids up in the way they should go is showing them how to pray. Saying bedtime prayers, lifting up our voices together in church, and praying for them when they get hurt are all fantastic ways to set the example and put them on a path toward a deep and tangible relationship with their Heavenly Father. They will go through phases of confidence in praying out loud but continue to guide them through and set examples of praying aloud and they will find their voices. Eventually, they will witness the power of prayer and use it to help others as well. We hold a beautiful gift that keeps on giving so let’s show them how to use it. The Word gives us power and The Holy Spirit teaches us how to use it.

Doing hard things is, well, hard. It is easy to grow weary in the mundane. When you are faced with difficult or even repetitive things, do you shy away or tend to put them off? Some people actually work better when they wait until the last minute. I like to get things done ahead of time, but at times, things are just so tempting to put off until later. Dishes are a perfect example in my house. We all hate doing dishes, yet we all hate looking at dirty dishes in the sink. Go figure. But the worst thing is when we run out of spoons for ice cream! What?!? That should never happen. And so, we do the dishes so that we all have what we need to eat our meals, and dessert. God reminds us throughout Scripture to be diligent in all that we do. He gives us opportunities that we may not feel ready for, but if it is something God is calling us to do, He will equip us along the way. He is faithful in that every time. I have many testimonies that I can give on that. I have grown so much over the years in skills, character, and faith because I have trusted Him and then He has equipped me. What are you putting off that you should be jumping into? What are you trusting God with right now? How is He equipping you to do the hard things?
Scripture in Today's Episode (ESV):
Galatians 6:9 - And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
1 Corinthians 15:58 - Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
James 1:12 - Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
Proverbs 4:23 - Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

We sacrifice a lot for our kids: time, money, personal space, etc. If God asked you to sacrifice your kids, would you? I'm not suggesting that God is going to direct you to kill your kids or anything like that so don't get me wrong. Please don't get me wrong there! But there are other ways that He will ask us to give our kids back to Him and are you willing to let go of control in your parenting? With so many books, podcasts, and peers out there telling us what to do, it's hard to know where God's voice fits in sometimes. Spend time in His Word and learn to discern His voice from others and you'll know how He wants you to partner with Him in this wonderful parenting journey.

As parents, we are naturally inclined to worry about our kids. Whether it's about their past, present, or future, how it all comes together to make or break them is the ultimate concern for all of us. Some of us also wonder whether we should have started a therapy fund for them years ago to make up for the damage we're probably causing by having no idea what we're doing sometimes. LOL! However, we serve a perfect God Who loves them even more than we do. So why are we worrying if we know that He has the best for them? Let's continue to raise them up in His truth and trust that He will fill in the gaps where we fall short.

Colossians 3:12-14
Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.

Do you ever get frustrated because your kids keep making the same mistakes and you're not seeing any growth in their character no matter what you do? Are you wondering when they are going to grow out of some behaviors? Don't you wish they would just do what you say? Me too. But in my experience, when I partner with God and trust that He is faithful, I know that He is. As long as I keep Him at the center of my parenting and raise my kids up in the way they should go, He will honor my faithfulness to that goal and fill in the gaps where I fail.
So pull up your boot straps, imperfect parents! Continue to grow them up to know God and spend time with Him, and the fruit of your faith will emerge. I have seen it to be true even when I thought it was hopeless.

Memorial Day weekend is a time that America sets apart to specifically honor those who have sacrificed their lives during active military service. It is a time to recognize the glory in serving our country with everything they had. I am in awe of those who are willing to step up and give their all for me, an insignificant American citizen so that I can maintain the freedoms and rights afforded to me by my government and forefathers. Having national freedom is a temporal opportunity.
The One Who sacrificed it all to save me from eternal damnation is the one that I want to honor every single day. I am beyond grateful for what Jesus did for me on the cross. He defines love as laying one's life down for our brothers and sisters. It got me thinking. Do I do that in my own home? Do I show true love to my family in all that I do and say? Do they feel loved by me and am I setting the example of love like Jesus did? Luckily, Jesus also left us with some valuable information and a Helper to guide us as we fumble through trying to live out this type of love. Come Holy Spirt!

This is all great advice when we are angry, upset, or overwhelmed. But how easy is it to execute any of these? For some, it is definitely easier than others. May the 4th be with you! I'm so excited that this episode comes out on May 4th. It's a "holiday" around our Star Wars obsessed house! Do you do anything fun for it? Like, make fun shaped pancakes? If you dye pancake batter green, pour out a circle and then pour out two quick plops to the sides, you have Yoda Pancakes!
About today's show:
Although saying "No" to our kids is necessary, it is rarely fun or easy. Some days it is exhausting and it's easier to just give in and loosen the boundaries. Oftentimes, I regret doing that though. How about you? How do we train kids to appreciate the "Yeses" when they get them and accept the times when they don't? If you have the answer, please let me know. Meanwhile, I'll be over here parenting imperfectly, going to my knees in prayer first, and asking God for help and forgiveness (not necessarily in that order).

Fried Cornbread (AKA Hoe Cakes)
If you wish you had some easy cornbread to whip up to go with your chili or whatever you prefer it with, this is the recipe for you! I fried them in a cast-iron skillet with coconut oil and they came out tremendous! All of my family loved them and have already asked for them again. We put a little bit of butter and honey on top and they were perfect. My husband just submerged them in his chili and was happy. Enjoy them your way!

Hang out with me and my friends, Hannah and Kristy, this week as we have an honest discussion about the struggles we have with our kids and electronics. It's a little bit longer than most of my podcasts because when moms get together, we like to chat. Well, we actually chatted longer than my software would record so it ends fairly abruptly, but I think there is such good, solid material here that we can all relate to and I hope you find it helpful and encouraging to know that you are not alone in this difficult aspect of parenting. Be sure to listen all the way to the end where I list some of the ideas we came up with for helping our kids learn healthy boundaries.
Head over to our Facebook page to let us know what your biggest struggle or victory over kids and electronics is. Your victory could bless the rest of us. Thanks for sharing!

Passing on the wisdom and truth that inspires our faith is not brainwashing, though you may be worried that it is. Much of society tells us to let the kids figure out their own beliefs. How? If they don't have a beginning point, a starting line, a foundation, then what is going to trigger their curiosity? It's awesome when they ask questions because it means they are processing information for themselves, but if they don't have the information to begin with, or are getting it from an external and probably unreliable source, where are they getting it? We are assigned and have the honor and privilege of being their first teachers. Take that role seriously and fill them with truth, love, and all the wisdom that God has bestowed upon you. We can do this with God's help. Let's get on with this adventure called parenting! Today's Scripture:
Jonah 2: 1-9
Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, saying,
“I called out to the Lord, out of my distress,
and he answered me;
out of the belly of Sheol I cried,
and you heard my voice.
For you cast me into the deep,
into the heart of the seas,
and the flood surrounded me;
all your waves and your billows
passed over me.
Then I said, ‘I am driven away
from your sight;
yet I shall again look
upon your holy temple.’
The waters closed in over me to take my life;
the deep surrounded me;
weeds were wrapped about my head
at the roots of the mountains.
I went down to the land
whose bars closed upon me forever;
yet you brought up my life from the pit,
O Lord my God.
When my life was fainting away,
I remembered the Lord,
and my prayer came to you,
into your holy temple.
Those who pay regard to vain idols
forsake their hope of steadfast love.
But I with the voice of thanksgiving
will sacrifice to you;
what I have vowed I will pay.
Salvation belongs to the Lord!”

God does what?!? Yes, He lets us fail. Does that make Him mean and uncaring? Nope. Quite the opposite, my friends! Take a listen and hear my perspective. Be sure to stick around at the end for a new adventure!
Scriptures from this episode:
Proverbs 16:9 - The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.
Leviticus 18:5 - You shall, therefore, keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.
1 John 3:19-20 - By this, we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before Him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and He knows everything.
John 9:41 - If you were blind, you would have no sin, but since you say "We see," your sin remains.
Beefy BBQ Beans

How well do you know God's voice? Can you pick it out from all of the noise we deal with every day? More importantly, can you tell when it is NOT His voice?
John 10:27-28 - My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of My hand.

Do you struggle with comparison or trying to be the perfect parent? Forget about that lofty unattainable goal and focus on the direction instead. We are all headed somewhere and so long as you allow God to light your path, He will make your way perfect. Partner with God and he will light your path.
Today's Scriptures:
Phil 4:13 - I can do all things through Him Who strengthens me.
Psalm 18:32 - the God Who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless (perfect).
Gal 3:3 - Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
Ecc 7:20 - Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins.
Isaiah 26:3-4 - You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock. (In the podcast I said this was Isaiah 23, but it is 26. Sorry if that confused you.)
1 Peter 5:7 - Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.
2 Sam 22:31 - This God - His way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.
Romans 5:8 - but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Hebrews 10:14 - For by a single offering He has perfected for all time those who are being made holy (sanctified).
BONUS SCRIPTURE TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO KEEP YOUR EYES TOWARD THE GOAL:
Phil 3:12-14 - Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own because Christ Jesus has made me His own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

The winter doldrums really set in this time of year. Everything seems so routine and dull and there doesn't seem to be a lot of things we can do to break up the monotony. How can we raise our spirits and keep a positive attitude through this time of year? Encourage one another, stay in the Word, and pray.

Here are the Scriptures that I referenced in today's podcast:
Ephesians 1:18 - Open the eyes of their hearts, and let the light of Your truth flood in. Shine Your light on the hope You are calling them to embrace. Reveal to them the glorious riches You are preparing as their inheritance.
Psalm 119:18 - Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
Acts 26:18 - To open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.
Luke 24:31 - And their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him. And He vanished from their sight.
Prayer to ask God to open your eyes:
Lord, God, I feel blinded by what I don't know about You. I want to know you more but I don't know how to do that. Please uncover my eyes so that I can see You. Please open my heart so that the Spirit can work in me and bring me the knowledge of Your wisdom and love. Help me to see that I can grow closer to You and remember that You have not abandoned or forsaken me. Thank You, Lord, for Your goodness and Your constant pursuit of my heart. Help me to see right now. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Proverbs 12:15 warns us that "the way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice." Parents receive a lot of unsolicited advice. Some of it is helpful and a lot of it throws us off track. Why do people do that?!? Do they really think they know our situation better than we do? Today, I'm sharing with you two pieces of unsolicited advice from women that truly did know better and these are golden. They have and will continue to guide me through my journey as a mom. I hope that they will encourage and inspire you as well. Stay tuned to find out how wonderful some advice can be!
