He asks what sparked the worldwide expectation of the return of Christ in the 1840s, and what became of the story. 'What hath God wrought!' Sears discovers that until 1844, humanity's advancement had stagnated. If depicted on a graph, the line would be horizontal. However, immediately after, the line went almost directly upwards, and has continued to climb ever since!
