If there’s one consistent question I get asked by authors, it’s this… what are some holiday marketing tips? How do I stand out amongst the noise and chaos of the holidays?
This question comes up no matter the season… New Year’s, Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s Day and the Fourth of July… but the energy changes when November arrives because the domino effect of holidays is nearly triggered. Panic is starting to set in. We have people to buy for and yet, we want people to buy our books this holiday season too. So many things we ought to do, so little time to do them.
On this pop-up episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I highlight holiday book marketing insights as well as a limited offering the emPower pR group has to help authors sleigh the holidays. Learn more at www.empowerprgroup.com/holidaymarketing.

You want to create an audiobook but how in the world do you produce one? Great question! I hadn’t a clue until I rolled up my sleeves and decided it was time for me to bring an audiobook to life. What I learned in the process was the seemingly simple journey of recording you reading your book was anything but simple.
Worth it? Yes. Simple? No way!
I’m so grateful that I was able to produce the audiobook alongside Phil, my audiobook supporter, and together we navigated the hours upon hours of recording, editing, music creation and more to ensure the book readers listen to would create the same journey as the one that they read. Want a sneak peek into what it takes to produce an audiobook? Well today’s your lucky day because Phil and I tell all… the good, the bad, the stomach rumbles and the air bubbles too… on this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast.

Words matter. Read a book by Mitch Albom and be reminded that each and every word has purpose. Work with an editor and they will help you leverage words with precision and meaning. Words connect people, break down walls and build bridges.
And, guess what... audio matters too. Listen to a poorly produced podcast, and the mouth noises become like nails on chalkboards. Video calls with poor internet break conversations, hindering discussion that need to be had. And, audio matters in audiobooks if you want to transport a reader/listener into your story.
A well-written book increases someone’s impression of the author just as a well-produced audiobook does! And on this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I’m digging into the importance of quality audio in audiobooks. Learn why and how to make that happen.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Books build bridges and break down walls. And this episode's discussion is proof of it.
I’m joined with my friend and fellow author, Jane Gleeson, author of Who Stole My Ovaries?. She is a heart-centered support for women who are facing fertility challenges. Her book is raw and honest and real, and our conversation on this episode is too.
As someone who navigated fertility concerns myself, I appreciate Jane's insights and even wish I had known her or read her book years ago myself. There is power in story and connecting our stories as well. Jane’s book has stories interwoven throughout, and in doing so, she connects many stories of women just like me who didn’t have the picture perfect pregnancies. Books offer honest opportunities to talk about things many are fearful of.

How does your reader consume information? It’s one of the first questions I ask authors who are considering if an audiobook is a good solution for them. If you find yourself considering that maybe an audiobook is a way to share your message with those who need it most and consume information in that format, then by all means, it may be time to turn that book into an audiobook! But before you dive all in, I want you to make sure you have the technical guidance to do so at the professionalism that you and your book deserve.
This episode of The emPowered Author Podcast walks through the technical requirements, narration decisions and producing considerations any author should reflect upon before deciding if an audiobook is a good solution for their readers and message.
And, if you'd like to explore an audiobook, take a listen to mine: Make Your Author emPact: Sell More Books, Increase Your Reach and Achieve Your Why. As myself and Phil Bright, my audiobook producer and guest for this season of the podcast, worked together on this effort, I took notes and wanted to bring you a season on all things audiobooks.

Should your book become an audiobook? Well, it depends.
Audiobooks take time, resources and energy to create no matter how you create them. For some authors, it’s the perfect fit for their target reader. For others, it may not be the best use of efforts. It all, well, depends. Understanding the pros and cons for the listeners and you, the author, will help you make a more solid, strategic decisions.
Today is a big day over here as I'm launching the audiobook version of Make Your Author emPact: Sell More Books, Increase Your Reach and Achieve Your Why. As myself and Phil Bright, my audiobook producer and guest for this season of the podcast, worked together on this effort, I took notes and wanted to bring you a season on all things audiobooks. Today, we are diving into the pros and cons of an audiobook to help you determine if an audiobook makes sense for you.

From the moment I met Julie Wanzer, I knew she was a rockstar.
Was it her energy? Possibly! She’s filled to the brim with more positivity than I thought one person could hold. Was it her passion? For sure! She loves what she does and it shows. But when I really knew we could be besties was when I learned that her forthcoming book was on LinkedIn! (And if you’ve been around her for a while, you know my stance on the platform. It’s one of the two nonnegotiables I believe every author needs.)
Reading her book was a joy, but spending time with her recording this podcast was even more! Together, Julie and I are moving LinkedIn mountains for authors, and we hope you become emPowered to embrace all the platform has to offer. Tune in to this episode and get some LinkedIn tips you will want to write down and use immediately!

Ever gone out to dinner alone? It’s not something I do regularly, but found myself sitting at a farm to table restaurant that made each plate from scratch at order while on my CEO retreat. The 45-minute wait was worth every minute, however the time I sat waiting for it was an opportunity for a lot of conversation time with me, myself and I.
In normal Stephanie fashion, I found myself exploring the farm to table process and then quickly jumped to the manuscript to book process. (Y’all… I was on a business CEO retreat. What do you expect?!)
I decided to leverage the inspiration and use it as a launchpad for the final podcast episode in Season 12 on Self-Publishing. On this episode, I walk you through our “farm to table” approach on how to bring your book to life!

I was having dinner with a friend who is working on publishing her first novel. We talked about everything under the sun… books and life related. But when she shared the advice of her book coach, I had to add to it.
“I’m going to self publish,” she told me. “Because my book coach said it could take me a year or two for traditional publishing.” I suggested that she add a few years to that. I know people who are multiple years out and still can’t find a literary agent.
She’s self publishing, which I think is smart in today’s publishing landscape, and if that’s the route you’re taking, I want to share with you all the other amazing perks of self-publishing for you to take advantage of. This episode is all about self-publishing benefits to take full advantage of. If you are considering self-publishing, I think you’ll find this episode enlightening.

Ready, set, launch! That’s a phrase that builds momentum. It’s a phrase that indicates that the countdown is on. You prepare, you get ready, then you run. Launching… book launching included… is much like that.
Release on the other hand has phrases like just release the tension and release the hounds come with a whole different energy and purpose. It’s like you just open the flood gates and let it go. And, as you can expect it, a book release is the same way.
Launch versus release is a constant battle I help authors better understand on the regular. They aren’t quite sure the difference between the two and there is one; a big one! This episode walks you through the difference between book release and book launch as it pertains to marketing a forthcoming book that maybe you’re in the process of writing.

You're on the self-publishing journey, but what does that mean for printing? What options exist? And what is the difference between print-on-demand and offset printing; IngramSpark and Amazon's KDP? In the self-publishing space, this is very complicated for authors to grasp, oddly enough. It’s a journey I walk my clients through tie and time again, and it’s still a lot to understand. So today, I want to answer the questions you have to ensure your book becomes a book you hold!

For a book to thrive, groundwork must be laid beforehand. Just like a plant needs a solid foundation to stand strong, self-publishing an amazing book requires more than just its content. It becomes an extension of you, reflecting your thoughts, ideas, and experiences. Moreover, your book can serve as a powerful tool to build and grow your business. It establishes your authority, attracts potential customers, and expands your reach.
As you embark on self-publishing, it's crucial to assess the skills you possess to help you achieve your goals. By considering these three "roots," you can lay a solid foundation for a successful self-published book and a thriving business.
During this episode, I walk you through these questions to consider when self-publishing your book.

🌱A book starts with a thought. 🌱
You have something that the world needs and you’ve yet to find out there. You have a message that you need to share. You have an itch to get out something you’ve found to be a solution to a problem of many.
If you’re like me, the kernel of an idea will pester you until you put your fingers to the keyboard and, peck by peck, you allow the story to evolve. Writing a book is a beautiful way to craft a message. But how do you share it? Well, before you can market it (which is my favorite), you have to publish it.
Today is a BIG day over here! First off, it’s my birthday. And, I figured what better gift than to release my fourth book. Emergence: Living Lessons from the Soil is out, available and ready to be invited into the homes and lives of others. Eek! To say I’m excited is an understatement.
In celebration of my book and my birthday, I also wanted to share some of my tried and true self publishing musts, and today I’m kicking off with how to ensure that that seed of a book idea gets properly watered. Season 12 of the emPowered Author Podcast shares all that I’ve learned about self-publishing.

If you build it, they will come.
We know that’s true from the movie Field of Dreams. But I believe that if you give value, they will come too.
The world of inbound marketing is about value and trust.
⇢ When you give, you get.
⇢ When you offer, you receive.
⇢ When you create, they come.
And, when your readers get there, they stay because they know you know them, you see them, and you have solutions for them. I’m excited to dig into the specifics of the various forms of inbound marketing content you can use and some of my tried-and-true approaches to each on this episode.

I bet if you sat down for only a minute and reflected, you could identify a turning point in your career. Something happened that changed everything for you. Maybe it was a personal experience or it could have been a professional one. Either way, it turned your life upside down. While it may sound like more fun to run away from those times, it’s best to trudge through, and Mike Amato is proof of that.
Mike started a job that came with great opportunities, including a side dish of a major crisis. What could have derailed his career, however, turned out to be the pivotal peak of it, empowering him to empower others in ways he hadn’t ever dreamed possible. Mike Amato and I had the opportunity to work together on his book, The Better Way to Win, and I’m elated to invite you into a chat we had about what emPact is all about… especially when the situation is less than ideal. Instead of seeing lemons, Mike found a way to make sweet lemonade. Take a listen into our conversation.

I met an author who was in the thick of churn. Y’all, she was cranking out content like a machine. But she was tired and I was tired hearing about all the movement she was doing… but getting little traction.
Through a series of “why” questions… I got to the root as to why she was doing all of it… and it was because she thought she was supposed to. It was that simple. Maybe you think you are suppose to too (and, secret, you may be).
➟ But content without purpose is pointless.
➟ And content that drains you will leave you with little room to water others.
Today, I want to share a smarter not harder content strategy way. I’m excited to walk you through how to create a content strategy that will check off the needs of your author and authorpreneur efforts but not leave you with little left on the other side.

When women come together, beautiful things happen. But when women come together and collectively share their stories, emPowering things happen.
Lisa Pinnock and the ladies she’s collaborated with are living proof of it. She’s supported dozens of women in becoming empowered to share their stories of triumph, hardship and perseverance. And, not only did the women she supported walk away stronger, they walked away authors in one of two beautiful anthologies called Uncover Your Light. I get cold chills thinking about it, knowing the emPact these women and these books are having.
On International Women’s Day, I couldn’t imagine a better guest for the podcast than Lisa, especially since today is the release of her newest book, We Rise in Power. This anthology is amplifying women of color and inspiring all to use our voices for change. I recently was reminded that our words create worlds, and if we want a world that is better, we need to use our voices to make that happen. I don’t know about you, but I have enough problems. I don’t need any more. I am not in the business of looking for and investing in problems. Instead, I’m looking for and investing in solutions.
➩ Problems aren’t fun; solutions are! People want to spend money on fun not frustrating.
➩ Problems connect us but solutions save us. People want a superhero to pull them out of the “misery loves company” place.
➩ Problems aren’t what you want to be spending money on; but solutions are easy and quick, no-brainer investments!
This problem/solution journey is one each and every one of us embark on daily, and when it comes to book marketing, it should be a meaningful one found in our messaging and our inbound marketing efforts. Last week’s episode of The emPowered Author Podcast was all about questions. And today’s episode, I’m ready to help answer them!

When I was a little kid, I was filled with questions. So much so, actually, that I remember my parents being frustrated one day in front of my grandma and she asked them how I was going to learn if I didn’t ask questions. Grandma may have been a proponent of inbound marketing before it was a thing! The truth is, she was right.
People ask questions because they have interest and their interest can be deepened if they find the answers out by trusted sources that deepen their interest and build loyalty. That’s what inbound marketing is at its core, and that’s what I’m digging into on today’s episode of The emPowered Author Podcast.
Inbound marketing is a strategy to draw the right people to the right people. It’s how your ideal target reader or client uncovers you. They have questions and you offer answers. Knowing their questions will help you formulate the right answers in a way that they are searching so that when they go looking for answers, you appear. It’s that simple!

Stop looking for the change; become it.
It’s become a thread in my life for probably over a decade now when I began writing Color Today Pretty. It’s been a cornerstone to how I see my personal life and interactions with others. But when I had the opportunity to read Self-Elected by lisa wise, I realized that it is a responsibility of business owners to… actually, it’s a privilege.
lisa is the owner of a successful suite of property management businesses in the DC area, but as with most people, behind the person is a story that shaped her story. lisa experienced a childhood that was short on housing and security, and instead of continuously looking for it, she found it and now helps others found it too. She became the change the world needed… she needed. And her businesses are built from it, serving people and communities along the way.
I’m so excited to welcome you into a meaningful conversation lisa and I had about emPact… specifically the emPact each one of us has on the world, on business and with books. I’ve had the pleasure of reading her book, creating her book marketing plan, supporting her initiatives and more. But beyond any emPact I’ve been able to impart on her, she’s the one who’s left an emPact on me. Want to hear why? Join us for a conversation that I am confident will leave you ready to self-elect.

I don’t know about you, but when people start using words I haven’t a clue what they mean I shut down. Life is hectic enough; no need to add words to it that make no sense or lack context unless… they matter.
Unless they are game-changing.
Unless someone takes a moment to break down not only what it means but why I should care in the process.
Then, those words become committed to memory and I can take action from them. That is what happened to me when I uncovered inbound marketing… and it’s what I hope happens for you on this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast when I share the ins and outs of inbound marketing and why it is important for authors to leverage to attract their target readers.

To sell books requires people to know about them. To ensure the right people know about them, you need to know who your target audience is and where they go for trusted info. Then, you need a plan to be seen as a trusted source so you can be visible there. It sounds simple and it can be as long as you don’t give up on doing it. It needs a plan and it needs commitment to the plan. That’s where the fireworks happen.
For many authors, this is either the exciting part of book marketing or the terrifying part. If it excites you, fantastic! If it terrifies you, you aren’t alone. Remember that it’s selfish if you don’t share, but when you do make sure it’s about them, not you. The best visibility is the type that is meant to help someone in the process.
Don’t write a book in silence. Don’t launch a book and never talk about it. Don’t create a business and let worry hold you back from telling anyone that you can support their needs. Instead, be the author who is proud that you are writing something that the world will soon fall in love with. Be the author who let’s people in on your journey and invites them to help you. Be the author who wants to help people by making their lives a bit easier with your business. That’s the author who is making an emPact. And, author friend, that’s you.
On this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I share the three key elements you need to create a visibility plan and make it happen. If we could help you plan your visibility efforts, let's chat. I 100% believe that divine appointments happen daily, and my meeting Shannon Carroll is proof of it.
✔️ We were both at the same writer's retreat.
✔️ We had some overlapping connections.
✔️ Our paths crossed one morning which began a conversation that would turn into not just amazing author connections but a deep friendship too.
✔️ And, on top of it all, a diagnosis I was newly navigating had similarities to what her husband had experienced and they wrote a book about it.
This connection was destined for emPact on so many levels from the very beginning however, it required an openness for learning, feedback and growth to bring it all together.
Shannon Carroll is the co-author of the beautiful book, One Thing Remains. I’ve had the pleasure of reading her book, creating her marketing plan, conducting a VIP Day and more. And while we discuss the ins and outs of all of this on today’s episode, my hope is that you walk away realizing that we never know what the next moment offers. In her story, a next moment created a terrifying situation. And then, years later, a next moment created our friendship.
Here are some of my favorite highlights from this episode:

How many hats do you have to wear to make your author emPact?
⇢You have a writer hat. And, you are likely comfy with that one. I mean, you have to write a book to make a book happen.
⇢You have your author hat. Most authors learn the ins and outs of authorship. We know that to become an author requires us to publish a book and all.
⇢And, you have an authorpreneur hat, too. But authorpreneurship isn’t something every author realizes that they have signed up for. (And I promise you that if you are writing a book and you want people to buy it, you are an authorpreneur.)
During a previous livestream that Jennifer Crosswhite and I host on Wednesdays, we discussed insights into authorpreneurship and what it would take for authors to make this their year to own the authorpreneur hat. I’m excited to invite you into that conversation on this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast.

You’ve written a book. Now what? This is a question many ask me and while today’s episode will offer some helpful tips on your next steps, I want to start by sharing what you shouldn’t do.
⇏ Don’t keep them in a box in your basement to collect dust and mildew (or get impacted by an air conditioner leak… ahem, I know this from personal experience).
⇏ Don’t think they will sell themselves. (Friends, nothing will do that. Promise.)
⇏ Don’t try to manifest it’s success. (Believe me, I sure do love some manifestation, but book success requires a manifest partner in the deal… and it’s called taking action.)
⇏ Don’t forget about it. (It’s not a mistake you made that needs to be distanced from. It’s important and should be remembered.)
⇏ Don’t think you’ve lost your window of opportunity. (Books don’t have a shelf-life and you can breathe life into them whenever you’re ready.)
⇏ Don’t hold back and opt to not tell anyone about your success. (To sell your books, you have to talk about them. Period!)
On today’s episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I’m joined again by my friend Jennifer Crosswhite and, together, we offer up many tips on how to plan to sell books this year! I believe in you and your message, author friend. Let’s make this the year that others are changed by.

During the pandemic, so many of us found ourselves contemplating what our dreams were and the path we were taking to make them happen. I’ve heard from many authors, time and time again, that the book that they would one day write moved up on the priority list. I have had the pleasure of meeting an author who wrote reflections during that time and published an amazing book from it. I just spoke to an author who used the time to put his life story on paper. And, today you’ll hear from a dear friend of mine, Elisabeth Swan, who found herself reflecting openly through LinkedIn during this time, only to have her followers start asking about a book that she was going to write and didn’t know was needed. Guess what… that book will be coming out this year!
Elisabeth Swan is an author we’ve had the pleasure of working with in various ways, and today we dig into the value of feedback, how you can create demand for a book while you are crafting it, why the blog to book concept never goes out of style, and how collaboration is the name of the game. Learn more about her book and her message.

Ready. Set. Launch! Launching a book may feel a bit like launching a rocket. There’s stress and planning. Momentum builds. It takes off and you hold your breath to see if the rocket will make it to outerspace safely, and only then can you find your breath again. I had the pleasure of watching a rocket launch a few years ago, and it was stressful. I’ve also had the pleasure of personally launching 3 books and supporting countless other authors launch theirs. And, they too are stressful.
But stress doesn’t have to be synonymous with launch. In fact, when well planned, they can actually be really fun. On this episode, I’m excited to share some of my favorite book launch insights with you. We will level set on what book launch means, and I'll highlight my top 3 tips to ensure your book launch this year is successful.

I’m on a quest for being able to better define emPact… and I’m talking about the emPact that we have around here that is spelled a bit differently. This emPact has greater… well… emPact. emPact happens when people are vulnerable, when we let down our guard and be honest with ourselves in a way that not just changes us but changes others.
Every author has the potential to make their author emPact, and Katie Anderson is proof of it. Katie's book, Learning to Lead, Leading to Learn, highlights how real emPact happens when we are vulnerable… because that’s where true learning happens. I've had the pleasure of supporting Katie for several years, and helping her and her book make an emPact.

Are you looking to write a book this year? If so, I want to ensure that you write a book that others will buy. I call that a marketable book. This requires some prep work from you on identifying your target audience and outlining how you are going to use this book with them. Then, you have to plan to make it happen. Make a commitment to yourself to schedule time now. Put it on the calendar. Hold it as sacred. And make it happen.
During this episode, I'm joined by Jennifer Crosswhite, and together we share tips on how to make that happen. Would you go on a trip to a new destination without a map? You may be up for that challenge but I know I’d get lost. Would you attempt to put together a piece of IKEA furniture without the directions? If you’ve done it a time or two before maybe not, but I’d rather get it done than see how long it would take me to do it without directions. What about finish school without a plan? Dive into a career without a plan? Build a home without a plan? Do I need to go on?
Plans are amazing, when they put you on a path. That’s what they are there for, right? Plans are door opener when you have a focused vision and you are given the green light to run with it. Plans are game-changing when you can use them to guide your moves and indicate what is worth your energy and what isn’t. I’m a big fan of those kinds of plans, and those are the ones that I’m talking about today.

As with many things in life, some social platforms are here for a season. Others stick around for decades. During this season of The emPowered Author Podcast, I have been highlighting the platforms that have had longevity and purpose for authors to consider, and Twitter is one of them. It’s never been my platform of choice, mainly because of its belief that less is more (and that’s hard for me over here!) but it’s jam-packed with value for writers, authors and authorpreneurs. And, it may be a good fit for you too.

Does the camera make your hands sweat and your voice crack or do you get a rush of adrenaline and ideas right when you hit record? I’ve likely not found as polarizing of viewpoints with authors outside of talking about the differing feelings of sharing a message through the written word and through the spoken word. Some love it and many despise it. But most will agree that it’s not going away and its here to stay. Video is important in message sharing, which is why on this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, we are taking about YouTube.
It is a social platform that is integrated on other social platforms… and it also serves another purpose. It’s a search engine. You may go to Google for info. But when you are looking for how-to, YouTube is top of the list. It’s not the place people go to for mindless scrolling. Facebook and Instagram have that covered. However when people come to YouTube, they are on a mission. My goal today is to help make you that mission.

We want everything. Now. Instantly. For authors, that includes the publishing of our books… the royalties raking in… the business we are building alongside to flourish. We want it all and we want it now. Right?! Our culture has created this need for instant gratification and instant success. But when it comes to social media, even today’s topic of Instagram is anything but instant. The name of the book marketing game is consistency, and when it comes to social media success, that is painfully true, especially on Instagram.

Facebook! The social media platform that got my feet wet into how our world would become connected in a way that no one dreamed possible. Facebook created a major yet unexpected shift when it released, causing people to reimagine how we communicated with others and how marketing would evolve. I believe not all platforms are created equal, and many evolve, as well. Facebook, my friends, is one of them. Does it make sense for you to include it in your author platform efforts? Possibly. But I don’t believe in movement without strategy, and that’s especially true when talking Facebook.
On this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I share insights into who is on Facebook, how to optimize your infrastructure and tips on how to show up! Some stats that I share come from a SproutSocial article, and here's a link if you'd like to learn more.

There are very few must haves I recommend. You need a website, author friend. Hands down, a must. And outside of that, the second non-negotiable in my book is that you need to be on LinkedIn. I don’t think you have to do all the things or be all the places, but I do believe that being visible and engaged on LinkedIn will bode well for all authors, non-fiction especially. Why? Well, because not all social media platforms are created equally, and LinkedIn is the one poised for conversion.
On this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I share why I love LinkedIn, how to optimize your infrastructure and ways to engage so that your target readers and clients will find you!

I’m going to date myself on today’s episode, but I have to share that I literally remember the day when Facebook became a thing and my college didn’t have access to it yet. I also remember working at a company that had such a stringent social media policy that it would be laughable now. I remember life before social media, but I know that because of it, we are all forever changed. It’s changed how we connect with people, and it’s changed how we promote our offerings… and authors, you can’t escape that.
But where should you be? How much time should you spend? What is worth your personal and financial investment? On this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, we are unpacking the answer to these questions and Stephanie shares her top 3 tips to help authors develop and build their social platform.

You and I may be a bit different when it comes to entrepreneurship. While you may dream of all that it could offer; I tried time and time to run away from it. It had other plans, and running a business wasn’t a part of it. However, authorpreneurship kept knocking and I decided to stop running from it and, instead, see what it had to offer. And, I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
While running a business is no small feat; it’s downright rewarding once you get it up and running. In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I want to share with you what I’ve learned that most authorpreneur businesses need, logistically, to run effectively. I didn’t have a plan. You’ve solved the authorpreneur equation, but are you benefiting from it? You have a marketable solution, but are you marketing it? You have a business but are your offerings clear? Are you talking about them and are others doing the same?
Books that aren’t being read makes my soul cry! And businesses — meaningful ones – that aren’t getting traction because you’re not promoting them makes my heart break. Let’s fix that during this podcast episode!
Books mean business, literally. Over the years of helping authors with book marketing support, there is a commonality that I have picked up on and it’s this. Most authors don’t realize that the moment they write and publish a book, they have actually launched a business.
This season of The emPowered Author Podcast is focused on helping authorpreneurs with marketing insights to build or grow their business alongside or from their book. This episode discussed how to leverage the Author emPact Method to sell your business!

When some people say that they have "been there, done that" it means they aren't open to trying something again. Others, like me, see that phrase a bit differently. In fact, it's wisdom shared and that's what this episode is all about.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast I read a chapter from my new book, Make Your Author emPact: Sell More Books, Increase Your Reach & Achieve Your Why, and it just so happens that chapter is called Been There, Done That and It's Time I Wrote a Book About It.Knowledge is powerful, especially when it comes from people who want to pour into others. I knew it was time to write a book that other people could benefit from... authors specifically. Enjoy an insider peek into one of my favorite chapters.

Some people write a book because they have a dream to do so. Figuratively of course! They can envision a world where their name is on a book and they are making an emPact with it. Welp, I never had that type of dream. Instead, I had a literal one.
A literal dream put me on this journey to write a book which later took me on the journey to help authors around the world market theirs. This week, in celebration of the launch of my third book, Make Your Author emPact, I wanted to share with you a bit about how I became an author from a dream.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast learn about the book that changed everything for me. And, if you want to ensure your book does the same, order a copy of Make Your Author emPact: Sell More Books, Increase Your Reach & Achieve Your Why. I think you'll find it helpful!

Writing a book on emPact got me thinking … I wonder what some of my family feels about it. Specifically, I was curious if there were authors who had made an emPact in their lives like authors had made an emPact in mine. So I decided to ask them. And I had way too much fun in the process.
I learned that I take for granted small nuggets of information, because asking this question and hearing their answers was honestly such beautiful moments for me. They were excited to share (well, except my youngest who I caught when he was hangry) and I learned even more about them in the process.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast we are kicking off a week of pop-up episodes around author emPact because it's a big week around here! Make Your Author emPact: Sell More Books, Increase Your Reach & Achieve Your Why, releases tomorrow! And we are celebrating.

Tick tock, tick tock. Our life is filled up of moments, and many times we become engrossed with time. It’s how we run our days and our businesses. This episode isn’t about time in the clock sense … but rather in the patience sense. I’m so excited for you to meet a dear friend of mine who is living proof that some of the best marketing is all about timing (and networking).
For this episode, Stephanie Feger is joined by Jennifer Choate who is a Women's Ministry Leader. In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, we talk about how some of the most effective marketing requires you to focus on things you own and let go of the things you don’t. For example, I wanted to speak at a specific church, but I couldn’t make it happen. Instead, I focused on meeting people, and the church found me instead! When you realize that you aren’t in the business of book sales, but message sharing, the message drives it all.

If you are an author, you know the power of a library, and I would venture to say you would love to know how you could work with one. Not all libraries run the same way, but most have similar departments that are actively looking for ways to inspire people to come in, to read more, and to fall in love with books like we have.
For this episode, Stephanie Feger is joined by Gayle Ryan who just so happens to be a library programmer. In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, we are pulling back the curtain on some of our favorite book marketing tactics and collaborating with a library is one of them! Marketing is about reaching people where they are, when they want you to … and guess what, patreons of the library just may be your people.

Did you know that getting recognition for your amazing book could also be a way to help you continue to market your book? I don’t know about you, but getting an award always excites me … and getting an award as an author, well you may have to scrape me up off the floor because I’ll be a puddle when that happens! The truth is that awards are often overlooked as an opportunity to help spread the word about you, your book and your message.
For this episode, Stephanie Feger is joined by Boni Wagner Stafford who has a publishing gift that she shares with the authors she works with. And in this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, she’s sharing that gift with us as we talk about awards and how they offer marketing opportunities for authors, too!

Don’t break what isn’t broken. I think too many times we opt to go after the newest fad in marketing without remembering that there are evergreen and timeless strategies that work, are so effective, and are memorable beyond belief.
For this episode, Stephanie Feger is joined by Cathy Fyock, a book coach, who has a simple but extremely effective strategy to help her authors create conversations everywhere. Her "Ask Me About My Book" button has been game-changing for many authors, Stephanie included. The best marketing efforts lead to meaningful conversations. When you have a book that is poised to share value, don’t withhold that value. Share it. And if you are terrified of starting that conversation, wear a button that entices someone else to start it. In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, Stephanie chats about how to start the conversation.

When some hear the word marketing, they cringe. And the more authors I meet and get the pleasure of working with, I realize that many feel the same way. “I’d rather be writing than marketing” is a typical come back I receive. Listen, I get it. (Well, not really because I love book marketing … but I do understand.) In this season of The emPowered Author Podcast, I’m uncovering some unique and effective book marketing ideas that you can implement now!
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, I chat about how to reach people where they are, and sometimes that place isn't the first place you would look. I had the pleasure of visiting a small community in my state when my book came out, and I took full advantage of my time visiting, speaking and spreading my book's message. Sometimes the best marketing opportunities are those you least expect.

An endorsement – at its core – is someone providing you public approval of you, your product, your business, your book. Yes, that’s right … endorsements are a meaningful part of your book’s marketing efforts and today’s episode dives into that. Be prepared to learn all the W’s on endorsements. What it is. Who to ask. When to ask. And some unique ideas to get more!
If you don’t ask, you are already making the decision for someone. That’s true when asking for an endorsement. That’s also true when asking someone to buy a book, to invite you to come speak, to engage in a strategic partnership, and to get a review. In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, the two book experts chat about the power of the ask.

Do you know that old adage … don’t judge a book by its cover? Well, while I try to live that out with how I interact with people, I’m not as great when it comes to books. In fact, covers … and their titles and subtitles … are usually the thing that reels me in and pushes me to say yes, I will give 8 hours of my Saturday over to your story.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, Stephanie chats with Jennifer Crosswhite, a book coach and editor, about the significance of a title. Titles and subtitles don’t give you a love of words to work with, but each of them is jam-packed with purpose. And, when used best, they can be the deciding factor that pushes a reader to put your book in their shopping cart.

Pricing a book is a tough situation for most authors. But it doesn’t have to be. There can and should be a method to the madness. Most authors ask themselves the age old question – how low can I go? But that should be a question when playing limbo, not book pricing. It’s not about how low you can go. It’s more about how high the market can bear.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, Stephanie chats with Jennifer Crosswhite, a book coach and editor, about how to accurately price a book. Pricing your book is a marketing strategy and you should keep in mind your target audience while determining your pricing.

There’s a word that even I hear in the author world that gives me the heebee jeebees. NO, it’s not marketing (although I know that does that for many!). For me it’s always been feedback. And, I venture to say that I’m not the only one who feels this way. And although we are not talking about feedback per say, we are talking about reviews. Reviews are a form a feedback … and some authors never want to read them. But they are a gold mine of opportunity and marketing appeal.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, Stephanie chats with Jennifer Crosswhite, a book coach and editor, about reviews - what they are, why you need them, and where to get them. This is a question many authors ask me, so I thought it was a great topic to share with you today.

It’s all in the details. We know this! We are authors. Think about the descriptors you use in your writing. Details matter there. And they matter, too, in your photos. You are your brand. Embrace it and be on the lookout for items that help to share it.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, Stephanie chats with Chanel Nicole, personal brand photographer, about all the details. A tip that Chanel shared and I totally believe in is that you should always keep your eyes open. If you are looking for a book to help guide you to be the best you possible, this book may be for you. If you are interested in understanding the underlying success metrics of successful people – and successful women – I’d recommend you dive into this book. No matter the reason for writing a book, every author hopes that they write a book that will sell. While the subject matter of your manuscript's content plays a large role in your book's success, ensuring that your message is written with your ideal reader in mind first and foremost is pivotal.

What if I were to tell you that you were writing three stories and you didn’t even know it?? Of course you know about the one you are physically writing, but the two other stories you are the author of — the story you speak and the one you think — have tons of power in your life. Almost more than the story you are writing and will one day publish does.
In this episode of The emPowered Author Podcast, we will dive into the other two stories you are unknowingly writing — the story you think and the story you speak — and how they are so deeply interconnected.

A brand is only as good as it is used. I’ve seen beautiful brands be underutilized and I’ve seen pretty horrific brands been used wayyyyy too much! Your goal is to spend your energy creating the brand that speaks you – your goals, your vision, your mission, your offerings to those who need you, want you and will invest in you – and then allow the brand to work for you. Put the brand to use in meaningful and empowering ways.
You know my philosophy – I don’t believe in movement without strategy – so don’t plaster your brand on everything just because you can. Instead, be methodical and select marketing materials and efforts that align with your brand promise and your business goals. That’s the sweet spot! And that’s where brand recognition and brand awareness have the best potential. This episode of The emPowered Author Podcast touches on making the shift from the intangible brand to the tangible marketing materials.

Like many authors, Stephanie Feger didn’t set out with the plan of writing a book and building a business. To be honest, writing a book was never even a thought in her mind. But life had a plan for her, and it would be one that would empower her to empower others in ways she never imagined.
Upon the release of her first book, Color Today Pretty: An Inspirational Guide to Living a Life in Perspective, Stephanie stumbled upon the opportunity to merge her love for writing books with her skillset in marketing, public relations and communications. She had plans to empower people in other ways, but she saw a need from people who had amazing messages to share but unsure how to share them and to whom, so she decided that her calling was to support nonfiction authors to spread their important messages to those who need them most.
Her business, the emPower PR Group, was formed and she was blessed with the opportunity to empower nonfiction authors with laser-focused marketing strategies and tactics to help them write books that sell, promote their books to those who need and want them most, and build a meaningful business from a message that is empowering. Quickly, Stephanie learned that emPowered people empower people, and empowering her one-on-one coaching clients with the tools that they needed to spread their messages was also allowing them to empower others in authentic and meaningful ways. Empowerment is powerful ... and Stephanie continues to see that firsthand day in and day out.
Along her journey, Stephanie continuously seeks ways to empower other nonfiction authors with the marketing insights that she has utilized to help herself and other authors achieve the levels of success that they seek most. The emPowered Author Podcast was born out of the need to provide a one-stop-shop for nonfiction authors to learn marketing insights from an author who has been there, done that, and understands exactly where you are and where you want to go. And ... she is willing to help you get there.
