A great saga whose name is Mahabharata, in which apart from the Pandavas and Kauravas, there are some such characters who have been given very little mention in the Puranas, Shastras and Epics . We want to present some of those characters through this podcast. Hope you would enjoy our podcast.

Dharohar Club, DPS Gurgaon
Duhshala, also spelt as Dushala or Dussala, was the only daughter of king Dhritarashtra and Queen Gandhari and sister to Kauravas in the Hindu epic Mahabharata. She was married to Jayadratha the king of Sindhu. She had a son named Suratha.

In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Vikarna was third Kaurava, son of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari and a brother to the crown prince Duryodhana. Vikarna is universally referred to as the third-most reputable of Kauravas. Usually, he is also indicated as the third-oldest son, but in other sources, the "third-strongest" reputation remained and it is implied that Vikarna is just one of Gandhari's 100 children (after Duryodhana and Dussasana). Vikarna was the only Kaurava who questioned the humiliation of Draupadi, the wife of his cousin Pandavas after they lost her in a game of dice to Duryodhana.

Sanjaya or Sanjaya Gavalgana is a character from the ancient Indian Hindu war epic Mahābhārata. In Mahabharata—An ancient story of a war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas—the blind king Dhritarashtra is the father of the principals of the Kaurava side. Sanjaya, son of charioteer Gavalgana, is Dhritarashtra's advisor and also his charioteer. Sanjaya was a disciple of sage Krishna Dwaipayana Veda Vyasa and was immensely devoted to his master, King Dhritarashtra. Sanjaya — who has the gift of seeing events at a distance (divya-drishti) right in front of him, granted by the sage Vyasa — narrates to Dhritarashtra the action in the climactic battle of Kurukshetra, which includes the Bhagavad Gita.

In the Hindu epic Mahabharata, Amba is the eldest daughter of Kashya, the king of Kashi and the sister of Ambika and Ambalika. Amba was abducted by Kuru prince Bhishma and holds him responsible for her misfortune. Her sole goal in life became his destruction, to fulfill which she was reborn as Shikhandini, the daughter of king Drupada and the sister of the epic's female protagonist Draupadi.

Subhadra is a Hindu goddess, mentioned in the ancient Hindu scriptures like the Mahabharata and the Bhagavata Purana. She is described as the favourite child of Vasudeva and the sister of the deities Krishna and Balarama. According to the Mahabharata, Arjuna—one of the Pandava brothers—eloped with her and she later gave birth to his son, Abhimanyu.
Subhadra is one of the three deities worshipped at the Jagannath temple at Puri, along with Krishna (as Jagannatha) and Balarama (or Balabhadra). One of the chariots in the annual Ratha Yatra is dedicated to her.

Kichaka was the commander-in-chief of Matsya, the country ruled by King Virata. Kichak was a very powerful man and had immense strength. He saved Virata's kingdom many times from foes. He was killed by Bhima because he was harassing Draupadi. Kichaka's sister, Sudeshna, had a beautiful daughter, Uttara.

Virat in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, was the king of Matsya Kingdom with its Virata Kingdom, in whose court the Pandavas spent a year in concealment during their exile. Virata was married to Queen Sudeshna and was the father of Prince Uttara and Princess Uttarā, who married Abhimanyu, the son of Arjuna. Abhimanyu and Uttara's son Parikshit succeeded Yudhishthira to the throne of Hastinapura, after the war of Mahabharata.

Krishna Dvaipayana or Ved Vyasa was a legendary sage, best known as the traditional author of the Hindu epic, Mahabharata. He is also sometimes credited as the traditional compiler of the Vedas, as well as the writer of other important works including the Puranas.
