Today I'm back in Bede, Manitoba, Canada with farmer Marty Voth. He walks me the through different ways his John Deere baler uses twine and wrap to secure hay bales. Marty introduces me to his Massey Ferguson combine, the benefits of older machinery for smaller farming, some moisture testing for his freshly harvested oats with the 1955 Labtronic testing apparatus and a final farm conversation about his bearded wheat field.
Today we spend time with Lila and the Schroeder Family in the RM of Lakeshore. Learn about the different local garlic varieties, and what hardships these farmers endured this year. Also discover how farming together strengthens family bonds and healthy relationships!
This week farmer John invites me out to the farm to do some seeding. He teaches me about some older machinery, that works for him like a charm. We discover more about the John Deere hoe drill, and how it all works. "Goes Pretty Straight" Is all the GPS farmer John needs! See how winter wheat can begin germinating in as little as 24 hours.
Today I was on the road again and met Steve Langston. We discuss rural rejuvenation and the exciting transition that is taking place over the last 3 years in Erickson Manitoba.
We view an old church that was rescued for community use 'The Good Street Hall', we take a look at the thrift shop 'The Score Store' that serves the entire community of approximately 750 citizens, the exciting build through grant writing and community involvement for the food security/greenhouse, and the beautiful and quaint 'Iris Café'.
Today on the show I host Richard Bankert and his son! We go behind the scenes for the "Our Crazy RV" vlog and I end up on a 9km hike up in Riding Mountain National Park. In this episode, I have an opportunity to meet The Honorable Candice Bergen of the Conservative Party of Canada. She was in attendance on August 9th in Wasagaming, Manitoba, for a fundraising supper hosted by Dan Mazier, Member of Parliament. I have the privilege of bringing you her speech from that evening, as Conservatives across Canada collectively hold their breath for the leadership race of the Conservative Party of Canada and it's outcome September 10th, 2022.
Today Kerri Riehl is back to cohost with me, and we discuss how approximately 100 households have been displaced by an out of town investor who doesn't appear to play by the rules. We hear some horror stories first hand from locals which begs the question? How do we assist those in our community that don't understand how to navigate the system? Where do they turn for help, and to whom, when being unfairly treated?
Today we are out and about with Farmer John on his land, where he shares his prized 1952 Farmall Tractor. Bullet proof and ready to work, this tractor pulls a 6 foot heritage plow to make the 40 acre field black. Unable to seed with the late spring this year, see what benefits summer fallow gives the land in a much needed break from production. Back to our farming roots!

He quickly helps me discover what has happened at the Winnipegosis Post Office, and why it's such a big deal for a small town to lose postal service, even if it's temporary.

The elephant in the room. Kerri raised the question to me... that was brought to her. When asked if 'riehl conversations' can create solutions, do we feel we are making a difference? The whole purpose of the podcast was to facilitate that. To bring back honest and heart felt questions and concerns, for our community, our province, and our country. If after listening to the podcast you have more questions and are burning to dig deeper then we are accomplishing what we set out to do.
The intention of media is not to spoon feed solutions, or have all the answers...but to provoke you to thought, and create conversations of your own. Go ahead and ask questions! Debate and have conversations with friends and family over political and current events, over our country's lawmaking. If we don't talk about these things openly, it will be almost impossible to find impactful and lasting solutions that affect the Government as a whole, our community’s and the laws that we find ourselves subjected to
Today Kerri wanted to reflect on the life of one of Manitoba's original founding fathers Louis Riel. His passion to do what he deemed right, how he was villianized by the Government leaders of the time, hung, then became a historical figure representing freedom against oppression. Do we as a society learn from our mistakes or are we doomed to repeat them? Can you draw any parallels to the times we are experiencing now as a nation now? What about the use of the Emergency Measures Act and injustices our Federal Government and current Prime Minister impose on peace loving Canadians that just wanted to be heard. Truth always surfaces, it will all come out in the "wash".
