The Heaven’s Door Old Fashioned Recipe Ingredients:
- 1.5oz Heaven’s Door Whiskey
- Dash Angostura Bitters
- 1 Sugar Cube
- Orange Peel
Method:
- Muddle sugar cube and bitters with one bar spoon of water.
- Add bourbon and ice, then lightly stir.
- Garnish with orange peel.
- Enjoy.

Today we toasted the first day of Fall by discussing a New York Sour (recipe below.) Jake and David got SUPER excited about a new vodka coming to the store, PURITY VODKA. And we talked about how many people steal items from restaurants! Also, we have a great alternative to adding raw egg whites into your cocktails with Collins Bar Sugar With Foamer.
New York Sour
Your typical Whiskey Sour gets an elegant and easy upgrade. Add a dash of red wine, we recommend Chateau Merigot Bordeaux Rouge 2019, for a deep ruby layer and extra complexity of flavor.
- 2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
- 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 3/4 ounce simple syrup
- 1 egg white (optional)
- 1/2 ounce red wine
Add the whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white (optional) into a shaker with ice and shake hard until well-chilled.
- Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
- Slowly pour the red wine over the back of a bar spoon so that the wine floats on top of the drink.

We continued celebrating Bourbon Heritage Month by discussing how spent bourbon barrels are used to further age a wide variety of beers, wines, spirits, and tobacco. This extends the life of a single barrel and adds depth and new flavor profiles to many non-bourbon products. Redwood Empire, a California distillery, offers an amazing line up. And with every bottle sold they plant a tree! Terrific distillery, with a great story, and a great mission! In wine news, Fred Franzia passed away. Some questions asked during this episode were… Is the world a better place with Two Buck Chuck? Do women have better tasting palates? What is the difference in a stout and porter? Will Malachi make it to the Galapagos Islands? How did NACHO JEEP fair in the Eureka Springs Jeep Jam? We may never know the answers to all of your burning questions…
