We are looking for individuals, couples or families who are interested in supporting a young person who can no longer live at home or is not ready to live independently. “It just felt right, as soon as we walked in, Barnardo’s welcomed us as an LGBT couple” said Steve.
Steve and Shane decided it was the right time to provide a loving, stable and happy life for a child – becoming adoptive parents after 20 years together. Steve had always wanted to be a dad, he dreamed of taking his son to watch his favourite football team play on a Saturday. At first, the couple considered surrogacy but decided it would be better to improve the life of a child who hadn’t had the best start to life. Barnardo’s was recommended to them by a friend. Once approved, they were soon matched with their four year old son Richard*. The adoptive parents cannot imagine their lives without their son. Steve said “It’s a wonderful feeling being called daddy, I love him so much”.
