My name is Dianna Singh and my purpose is to make introspection go viral. To allow reflection to dictate action. New episodes come out weekly! Why do we cheat? Whether it’s on an exam or with a partner, what is it about the situation that tells us that it is acceptable to transgress from our own principles that are so deeply rooted, to do something we would never otherwise imagine ourselves doing?
Recently, I had a friend open up to me about him cheating on his wife. They have been married 30 years, share 4 beautiful children together, yet in the past 3 years, he has cheated on her with two other women. He claims he still loves and cares for her but is not satisfied in the marriage. Through tearful pleas and explanations, I was listening to this full-grown man completely break into a helpless, vulnerable human being who feels he has been a complete phony his entire life. Though many men and women who are listening might be completely disgusted by this man’s behavior, I’m sure all of us are interested in knowing and understanding the why. And that is where we begin today’s podcast. I am your host, Dianna Singh, and we are going to be exploring the complex nature of infidelity.
Welcome back everyone to another episode of “On the Inside”, the podcast where we bring the most important relationships in life together. First off, I am so sorry for not putting up new episodes in a hot minute! It’s been a little crazy with work, family, and the financial markets but I will be posting new episodes every Thursday. Some of you have been asking me about it and I would like to thank you for keeping me honest to what I love doing the most – which is talking to you all!
When you love someone, whether it be for 10 minutes or 10 years, they have the power to bring out the best in you. So when that person stops loving, you’re not just mourning the loss of that person, but your mourning the loss of the person you used to be when they were with you. They say “live your best life”. But the truth is we’re all looking for that one person who lets us “live our best self”. You may feel wrung out and squeezed right now, but your grief is actually a testament to the thing that makes you so precious: your vulnerability. Now, love may bring out the best in you, but here’s the thing: the best of you has been in there all along. And it will be there when you finally find someone who’s worth only the very best.
Rejection in any form is never easy. Whether its at school. At work, in a personal relationship, the heaviness of knowing we are not enough weighs deeply within us. We play moments over and over again in our heads of what went wrong and how we could have possibly changed the outcome. The thoughts of “what if” haunts us daily to a crippling degree while we force ourselves out bed to face another day and play pretend to the world as if all is well.
