Pastor Kenneth Clark, after serving as a pastor for five years, realized his passion lie in helping at-risk youth. He started Vibrant Families (VFAM), a nonprofit that brings community leaders together to mentor to at-risk and fatherless youth. John and Pastor Clark discuss his background and how someone who didn't think they would live past 18, would start a lifelong ministry for other youth. Pastor Clark works with Seminole County Public Schools to mentor middle school and elementary students. He and his groups of mentors take the youth on fatherly excursions such as fishing, bowling, or a to a nice restaurant.

Sammie Smith was one of those rare athletes that excelled at the top level in multiple sports. A career in the NFL, playing for the likes of the Miami Dolphins, Sammie made some unfortunate choices that landed him in serious trouble. But clearly, God had big plans for Sammie that went beyond those bad decisions, and Sammie became a force for the Gospel. He is now in Lake County, and is working with the FCA.

Dr. Joel C. Hunter served as the senior pastor at Northland Church for 32 years. He has worked with non-profits throughout the community, and each week his devotionals are heard worldwide on Z88 radio. On the show, Dr. Hunter talks about his current project, Dave's House, which provides stable homes for individuals with mental health problems. A successful career in engineering, and also in business as a VP at AVCON, INC, Rick Baldocchi has a great love and passion for mission work. This has resulted in a new outreach, a company he founded called Agua Viva Serves, which provides wells that bring clean water to many areas in Costa Rica. It was a mission trip to this region about 16 years ago that exposed such a great need for clean, safe water. Rick was compelled to do something, and he shares that story on this podcast.

He spent many years on warships, earning the rank of Vice Admiral for the US Navy. At retirement, David Brewer became the Superintendent for the Los Angeles Public School System, then ultimately becoming a Trustee at Bethune-Cookman. As one would imagine, the Vice Admiral has many stories from his years aboard military vessels, but what he thinks to be the biggest threat to a naval ship just may surprise you. David Brewer lets us in on some of his experiences.
Tom Sittema has more than 3 decades of experience in both private markets and finance industries. He is currently partner and the executive chairman of StepStone Private Wealth. Even while running businesses, Tom co-founded and served as the chairman of Lift Orlando for more than ten years. Lift Orlando partners with families to build better lives through education, health, wellness, and economic development. Tom addresses today's need to equip our children to better handle finances.
Casey Baynes is no stranger to difficult seasons in life...she battled many hurdles as she was growing up, including dyslexia, and was told that school would be difficult. She fought through, and not only graduated from college, but also receiving a Master's degree at the age of 20. Casey has a heart for children, and worked for several charitable organizations. She followed her heart, and established a non-profit to serve and encourage families whose children are facing a serious illness.
Johnny Vickers is a passionate educator who believes in the great value of higher education. During his courses at BCU, Vickers studied both Mass Communications and also Religion and Theology, all while being a member of their MEAC Conference winning football team. Johnny believes that one's spiritual education is just as vital as a conventional education, and he works to inspire others to gain both in order to reach their max potential.
He survived a military career of 22 years that included combat missions in some of most dangerous regions in the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan. Jeff now combines his huge heart for veterans with not only his background in the military - but also with his expertise in law. As an attorney, Jeff is CEO of Community Legal Services, a company that uses the motto "Legal aid for all." He gives insights into some of his experiences while at war.
John Crossman is known as a true business leader and expert in real estate. But there is an additional passion that is his "last word byline" on each of the Crossman Conversation...and that is "support your local HBCU. On today's program, two more students from a Historically Black College and University - Bethune-Cookman - share from their lives and experiences. Danae Allen is an elementary education major, and Donovann Toatley is a communcations/business major and on the basketball team.
Richie Butler graduated from Southern Methodist University with a heart for God, and it was on to Harvard Divinity School. In Dallas, he founded Project Unity and hosted a forum that attracted a national audience to his efforts at bringing improvement to race relations in the metroplex. His focus in the community has been for the revitalization of urban areas. Richie is the Senior Pastor at St Luke Community United Methodist Church in the Dallas area.

That is what John has been doing for years, and these Historically Black Colleges and Universities are graduating great leaders in every sector. Two students from Bethune-Cookman University share their school experiences in this episode. Janiya Jones and Phillip Hinson open up about life at BCU.
Rev. Michael Aitcheson is the senior pastor at Christ United Fellowship in Orlando. He obtained his MDiv degree from Reformed Theological seminary, and his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky. Pastor Aitcheson has a heart for biblical study and church history, and his interest in the theology of biblical race and justice serves him well in today's cultural setting. Aitcheson is also a co-host of the podcast entitled "As In Heaven."
Sarah Garcia of AdventHealth Hospice Care has a deep passion to help our community understand the particular challenges families face when a loved one is nearing end-of-life. She believes that every adult needs to have the proper knowledge needed to plan for their own wishes to be realized when that time comes. While this topic is not an easy one in which to participate, it is critical for us all, and Sarah's insights will be both helpful and timely as she joins the Conversation.
He is a combat veteran of 22 years, having served multiple deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq, and serves to this day in the Florida National Guard. Jeff Harvey understands better than most the plight of individuals-like many Vietnam vets-that need to have representation by someone who knows and feels what they've gone through. Jeff's organization - Community Legal Services - represents the underserved, offering their services in such areas as family law, housing, veteran's benefits, and much more.
Over 20 years ago, Mike Parks left the traditional American workplace and successful business environments to start an organization that help communities in parts of the world that were in crisis. He formed "Frontier Partners International," offering disaster response and critical development in regions such as Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq and Lebanon, areas that have been crushed due to famine, war, or lack of essential resources. Jamal Hashweh is from Jordan, and he is working with FPI's medical, relief and development operations there.
He was one of the most decorated UF football QBs, a Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL player. Danny Wuerffel has seen much in his life, but nothing is more important to him than his faith, and his family. Danny ministers through Desire Street ministry, helping to revitalize communities with a hands-on approach, meeting both spiritual and community needs. Danny has been a friend to John for over ten years, and shares from his heart on today's episode.
She has been a leader from the beginning of her illustrious career. Dr. Clara Walters spent 35 years in her tenure in education, part of which as the first African American female to be named principal of a secondary school within the Orange Country (FL) district. She retired in 2000...well, sort of. Upon her retirement, she founded "Education and Leadership Training Incorporation", an organization that trains principals and helps schools that are challenged to improve their grade rating.
All top-level athletes are gifted in their sport, but few rise to the levels of collegiate and profession teams in two sports. Charlie Ward will go down in history as one of the top quarterbacks for the Florida State Seminoles, but instead of heading to the NFL, a door opened in the NBA - and Charlie flourished in his opportunity. He and John chat about team chemistry, the importance of team unity, and his experiences of living out the light of the Gospel in pro sports.
Jerry Demings is no stranger to challenges. He started his career in civic service as a law enforcement officer who became the Sheriff of Orange County. He ran for the office of Orange County Mayor in 2018, securing 60 percent of the vote. He was reelected in 2022. During his tenure in these positions, he has faced some big crises, including the tragic Pulse nightclub massacre. He shares on his experiences and his viewpoint to civic leadership in this episode.
An attorney who is chairman of a Florida-based law firm, George LeMieux is widely known as a caring, effective yet bold leader. His firm focuses on helping resolve business and governmental disputes. Sen. LeMieux is a trusted advisor to CEOs, including those on the Fortune 500 list. His work at Palm Beach Atlantic University has resulted in The LeMieux Center for Public Policy, connecting students to with notable community leaders.
Joining John on the conversation in this episode is Raphael Clemente, who serves as the Executive Director of West Palm Beach's DDA - the Downtown Development Authority. Raphael joined the DDA in 2006, bringing with him both experience and vision, which has led to the growth of West Palm Beach's downtown area. With new businesses, and the awarding of several grants to bring improvement to many local projects, Raphael is a true leader in his field.
Talli Dippold is the CEO of The Holocaust Center of Florida. She, along with VP and director of marketing Kathy Turner dropped by the Shepherd Studios for this sit-down talk with John Crossman. John shares a very personal story that explains his introduction to the services provided by this center, and its mission to provide resources and education to all of Central Florida and beyond. They use the history and significance of the Holocaust to help in building a just and caring community.
Manikka Bowman brings both experience and education to her role at Project REAP, (which stands for Real Estate Associate Program), led by Manikka and her husband. It has the goal of expanding housing opportunities while improving multi-housing in the Boston area. John's guest was a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University, and later achieved two Master's Degrees in Divinity and Urban Policy. She is active in using her skills to help her community.

John welcomes the founder of this chain of restaurants to the conversation, whose heart and life are testimonies to his deep faith in God, and his passion to help people. Rivers' desire is to use 4Rivers to make our community a better place through several creative ways, all discussed in this episode.
