Pastor Greg speaks with Megan Turner-Chernia, who gives first-hand knowledge of what it is like to live in Israel during today's time of war. Megan lives in Be're-Sheva (Beersheba), Israel, which is very close to the October 6th attack sites. Megan grew up in Fort Smith and moved to Israel just a few years ago. She works with Eretz-Ir, an Israeli nonprofit organization bringing people in communities together to "build cities that are good to live in," specifically in Israel's underserved periphery regions.

Last year Janet and Pastor Greg explored all the blessings from developing the spiritual habits listed in Matthew 5. In this episode, they finally get to the last one—persecution. Even though Christians don’t like to consider or experience persecution, the Bible clearly labels it as an indicator of how closely we’re walking with Jesus. Pastor Greg explains how “blessed are the merciful” is a much deeper concept than many people realize. We will learn how mercy is more than just a sense of grace or forgiveness. Jesus challenges us to have a heart of mercy which is a “compassion that moves us to to care for someone in a way that alleviates the struggles in their life.” This is the essence of a Christ-like heart of mercy.
