I've often felt like I'm behind in life, wishing I was further ahead.Working in a prison gave me incredible perspective on the gifts I really did have.A few years later I suffered a crippling illness which gave me another powerful perspective on how my struggles were actually critical learning steps. All of this helped me develop a powerful framework I call "The 7 Pillars." The 7 Pillars are: Skillset, Mindset, Coaching, Community, Tools, Strategy, and Environment. You can use The 7 Pillars to diagnose your current situation and figure out what to fix.

You can also use The 7 Pillars to design a success map for whatever you want to achieve next. There's never been a better time to be alive, and - given the technology of today - one year of focused effort on your success map will absolutely produce mind-blowing results. The results you'll produce will be truly awe-inspiring, even to yourself. What incredible magic will you weave in the coming 12 months?Subscribe to my podcast and have your best year yet!

Last week Major League Baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani reportedly agreed to a mind-melting $700M, 10-year contract to play baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers. That's $70M / year, or $190K / day, whether he's actually playing baseball or not.

Mind-blowing to say the least!

As we dig deeper into the deal we learn more and more about why this deal might actually make incredible business sense for the Los Angeles Dodgers, for three main reasons:

  1. The worldwide - and especially Japanese - fever around Shohei Ohtani. Japan's population is the same size as the top-5 most-populous US states combined, and the entirety of Japan loves one athlete more than all others, and that is Shohei Ohtani
  2. The off-field revenue possible by such a mega-star; this includes TV deals, ads, sponsorships, and all derivatives
  3. The fascinating term on the deal; an astounding $68M of each year's $70M is actually being deferred by 10 years; so in the 2024 season, he'll earn $70M, but only be paid $2M. the other $68M will be paid to him in 2034. The same, 10-year delay will happen on each of the 10 years of the agreement

There will always be a fevered debate on whether any single athlete or entertainer is deserving of such a colossal salary. That debate aside, it really is fascinating to see the economics at play.

There are three qualities which, IMO, make an Entrepreneur. They are not intelligence or any specific skill. In fact, my own staff is better than me in many areas.

The three qualities are:

  1. Risk

  2. Alchemy

  3. Delayed Gratification

In this episode, I unpack each and share real-world examples and stories.

As an Entrepreneur, we're often facing tricky decisions, sometimes involving alot of risk.

Lamar Jackson is a star Quarterback in the NFL.  He just turned down a $250M, 5-year contract extension, which included $133M fully guaranteed.  He's holding out, hoping his play will earn him an even better contract.

Would you take the deal?  Or would you hold out like Lamar has chosen?

Being an NFL football player is extremely fickle.  For every long-time Tom Brady, there are dozens of players with incredible promise but who got knocked out of the game by injury. such as Robert Griffin III.  Every Quarterback, like Lamar, is dependent on countless factors outside of themselves: their teammates playing well, their coaches calling the right plays that combine winning and safety, and even the equiment they wear to be free of manufacturer's defects.

And the risks extend to off the field too.

What if Lamar gets caught up in a nightclub tussle?  Or an allegation of misconduct from a jealous friend, family member or excited fan?  Heck, what if he's driving and gets hit when another motorist runs a red light?

In this episode I give you two world-class tools for the next time you're assessing a high-stakes situation.
