For three years, the conflicts in the Stepstones region have escalated. Lord Corlys and Prince Daemon battle Craghas Drahar and his pirates without support from the Crown, which remains neutral regarding the southern realm situation. Meanwhile, King Viserys plans a great hunt to celebrate his and pregnant Queen Alicent's son Aegon's second birthday. Rhaenyra resents the attention her father continually heaps on Aegon. Their relationship is further strained by the ailing king's insistence that Rhaenyra marry to form a strong alliance and protect their lineage. Among many suitors, Lord Jason Lannister of Casterly Rock, seeks to wed Rhaenyra, though she refuses. Lord Strong recommends that Rhaenyra wed Ser Laenor Velaryon, Lord Corlys' son, to repair the rift between their two houses. On his brother Hobart's advice, Otto urges Alicent to persuade the king to name Aegon as heir, furthering the Hightowers' power and prestige. Viserys assures Rhaenyra she will always remain the heir and can choose who to marry. Also, the king relents and sends aid to the Stepstones as Daemon, Lord Corlys, his brother Vaemond, and the remaining House Velaryon soldiers fight a losing battle against Triarchy forces. Ser Laenor arrives on his dragon Seasmoke and helps defeat the enemy. Daemon kills the Crabfeeder. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Visit acast.com/privacy for more information.
Swimming back to Middle-earth, Galadriel comes across a raft with human survivors of a shipwreck. They are attacked by a sea creature and only one survives, Halbrand of the Southlands, who explains that he is fleeing from Orcs. He and Galadriel work together to survive a storm. Nori and Poppy keep the stranger secret from the other Harfoots and give him food and shelter. He does not speak their language, but uses fireflies and apparent magic to indicate that he is searching for a constellation of stars that Nori does not recognize. Arondir investigates tunnels beneath Hordern and is captured. Bronwyn returns to her own village, Tirharad, where an Orc attacks her and Theo. They kill it and use its head as proof of danger to convince the rest of the town to leave. Gil-galad sends the half-Elf Elrond to assist the great Elven-smith Celebrimbor, who is planning to build a powerful new forge. Elrond suggests they seek help from the Dwarves, and goes to his friend Prince Durin IV in Khazad-dûm. Durin is angry that Elrond has not visited in 20 years, but his wife Disa convinces him to hear Elrond's proposal. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Six months after Rhaenyra is named heir, Daemon occupies Dragonstone supported by thousands of loyal Gold Cloak guards. Meanwhile, Prince-Admiral Craghas Drahar, known as the Crab Feeder, menaces the Stepstones at the Triarchy's behest. The Small Council presses King Viserys to remarry and propagate his royal line, which risks Rhaenyra's succession status. Rhaenyra's suggestion to show force against Daemon is dismissed, and she is relegated to selecting a new knight for the King's Guard. She chooses the unpopular Ser Criston Cole. As Alicent Hightower continues comforting King Viserys at her father's urging, Lord Corlys Velaryon, husband to Princess Rhaenys, proposes his twelve-year-old daughter, Laena, marry the King. Daemon steals a dragon egg to goad Viserys into a confrontation at Dragonstone, but Otto Hightower goes instead. As bloodshed looms, Rhaenyra flies to Dragonstone on her dragon, Syrax, and retrieves the egg. Her disobedience angers the king, prompting a heartfelt discussion about Queen Aemma and his remarrying. Ultimately, Viserys announces he will wed Alicent, angering both Rhaenyra and Corlys; Corlys then approaches Daemon to form an alliance. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. During old king Jaehaerys Targaryen's reign, tragedies took his sons' lives, leaving the succession undecided. A Great Council convenes to choose Westeros' future ruler. Jaehaerys' grandchildren, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen and Prince Viserys Targaryen (Rhaenys' younger cousin) are the candidates. Westerosi law gives a male heir precedence over a female, regardless their birth order and Viserys is chosen. Nine years into King Visery I's reign, the Triarchy, an alliance formed by the free cities of Essos, threatens the kingdom, wanting to seize the Stepstones region. Viserys must also restrain his brother Daemon's brutality as the City Watch commander in King's Landing. Viserys, certain that pregnant Queen Aemma will bear him a son, holds a tournament to celebrate the impending birth. During the event, Dornish knight, Ser Criston Cole defeats Daemon in a competition while Queen Aemma and her son die in childbirth. The Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower, proposes that Viserys' only living child, the young princess Rhaenyra, be named heir to the Iron Throne. After a dispute with Daemon, Viserys proclaims Rhaenyra as the next ruler. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Visit acast.com/privacy for more information.
Amazon bought the television rights for The Lord of the Rings for US$250 million in November 2017, making a five-season production commitment worth at least US$1 billion. This would make it the most expensive television series ever made. Payne and McKay were hired in July 2018. The series is primarily based on the appendices of The Lord of the Rings, which include discussion of the Second Age, and per the requirements of Amazon's deal with the Tolkien Estate it is not a continuation of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit film trilogies. Despite this, the production intended to evoke the films with similar production design, and several members of the series' large international cast portray younger versions of characters from the films. Filming for the first eight-episode season took place in New Zealand, where the films were produced, from February 2020 to August 2021, with a production break of several months during that time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 1, 2022. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Visit acast.com/privacy for more information.

We will be reacting to promotional materials related to The Rings of Power. Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, the series is based on author J. R. R. Tolkien's history of Middle-earth. It begins during a time of relative peace and covers all the major events of Middle-earth's Second Age: the forging of the Rings of Power, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the fall of the island kingdom of Númenor, and the last alliance between Elves and Men. These events take place over thousands of years in Tolkien's original stories but are condensed for the series. Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022.
