This week our featured guest host is Kenzi Samuelson. Mrs. Samuelson has been practicing in the industry as an ultrasound tech for almost a decade and wanted to come on the open mic to share her experiences in the profession. Listen in as we engage in conversations and learn more about our struggles, how to overcome them and ways that we can continue to progress in our profession.

In this episode we start out by sharing what inspired Mrs. Samuelson to enter the industry and where her experiences have brough her up to know. This week we got the opportunity to visit with James Armo, who joined us all the way from Ghana, Africa. On this episode we share our mic with Texas Lobbyist, Kyle Frazier, as he shares open advice on what advocacy for radiology-based professionals should look like. He spends time sharing the importance a lobbyist can play in the legislative role, how to advocate effectively, and the importance of making connections with representatives. Mr. Frazier joins us with an extensive history in advocacy and has spent more than 3 decades in his role as a lobbyist. As we did this podcast we got to learn how everyone else is working but we as RA's don't really openly talk about how we do, what we do.

On this episode we share some of the important things we do when performing exams of the upper GI tract. We spent some time sharing how and why we do some of the positioning we do and helping technologist gain a different perspective into setting up these exams or anticipating how to better assist in the rooms. We share on some of the tips and tricks we have learned from both our radiologist and technologist over the years, being able to take care of our patients and get the radiologist the diagnostic exam they need to make their diagnosis.

These were just things we have have learned and how we personal work and are not intended as advice on how others work in their environment. This epsiode was simply to demonstrate one of the many ways and RA can assist in the fluoroscopy world and how we work within our roles. Every practice is different and each radiologist has their own protocols and expectations that us, as RA's, are expected to follow. This was just our generic take on our typical day of work.

Pennsylvania House Speaker and fellow Radiologic Technologist Brian Cutler comes on to join us on the open mic! Listen in as we learn what brought him to start his career in radiology and how advancing in his department led him into the legislative career path. Representative Cutler does an amazing job at showcasing the importance of our roles, education, training, and why state by state recognition is important. He explains that through state licensing there is an ability to better protect our patients and open up access to care with recognition of the Radiologist Assistant (RA) role. We talk over the RA role and the importance of recognition of our profession at a state and federal level.

Representative Cutler also shares his experiences in the industry and how they are incorporated into his role as a legislator with various laws. In the discussion he shares insight into how to better reach out representatives and getting to know them even when there is no radiology based legislation. He also shares on why it is important that we educate those who are representing us legislatively so that they can understand the importance of radiation safety and the care our patients are receiving on a daily basis.

Ms. Cusson is the President of the New Hampshire Society of Radiology Technologist (NHSRT) and currently sits a Chair on the NH Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Licensing Board. Mr. Licciardi Is a constituent of NH and sits as the Chair for the Certification Board of Radiology Practitioner Assistants (CBRPA).

Together they walk host Marcelene Forbus (RT, RPA) through the start of the passage of state licensure, current state licensure processes, and legislation that was placed in 2023 to revoke the state board. We share on the effects that legislation like this has for the state, patients and the profession. Radiology Program Director and ASRT Speaker of the House , Daniel DeMaio (Med, RT, CT), comes on to share so many important aspects that medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals have to offer in the field of medicine. Mr. DeMaio really highlights the importance of engaging within our profession to educate and demonstrate the importance of having qualified and credentialed staff behind every exposure button. Patient Experience Leader and author of "Better Than I Found It", Katherine Kalthoff (CPXP), joins hosts Marcelene Forbus (RT, RPA) and Reece Burgoon (RT, RRA) to shares with us her inspiration throughout her career and in life. During this episode we really get to learn what the "Patient Experience" role is all about and how beneficial this role it is to enhancing satisfaction and safety!

Ms. Kalthoff is open and shares how she leads others to better understanding what is is our patients need from those who are providing care to them. She is equally as open when sharing the importance of employee satisfaction and how this has a direct effect on the overall patient experiences. She offers advise to those of us in the direct line of providing care and to those of us in leadership and administrative roles. Most importantly she explains how patient experience is not something that is siloed and is a team effort.

Her discussion is easy to relate to, even for those not in the healthcare setting. She speaks about engagement, rounding on employees, and explains the importance of being present to be effective as a leader. There really is something for everyone in this episode.

Dr. Ahmed M. Fadl and Elizabeth Ezlich (RT, RRA) are our featured guest hosts for this episode.
