2020 has been an amazing year. We're not alking about COVID.
Politics is likely may over take pandemic in coming disruptions. Let's talk about getting ready if the worst is really on the way.
Most have heard rumblings of potential civil war. Even if it doesn't happen, there are rumbling of unrest regardless of which side prevails in coming elections.
Strikes us, there's plenty of potential to compound some already existing 2020 trends: Rising crime rates, rising violence, less dependable response from law enforcement in many areas.
We'll discuss the validity of said posturing and warnings, but primarily focus on final preps people can do regarding any potential looming emergency. We'll attempt to touch on sub-topics as varied as the ammo shortage to survival gardening.
Do you have a long term plan?
Food, water, backup communications (non-Internet).
Any plans for home security if police can't or won't respond?
Have you gone through the mental of drill of coping if the Internet stumbles or fails?
What if worse-case scenarios to come into play, and it's not a short term event?
If calamity doesn't happen in November, how much longer can it be avoided?

Insurrections continue in cities across America.
Those who claim to govern in these cities have been unwilling or unable to restore order.
Armed militias on the Left have staged street theater to flaunt their now-in-the-open image.
Yet media, and many who claim to hold power in government still mostly dismiss the present insurrection as "protests."
What's really behind the what's happening in the streets? And please, let's not pretend it's all about racial injustice - though there are likely many willing followers who still remained convinced that's what it's all about.
So let's look back at some classic insurrections of the past, how the goal was to create chaos and fear. These insurrections sometimes allowed very small factions paralyze major (and not so major) countries.
Also worth discussing: When do protests cross the line and become insurrection? And what separates an insurrection from civil war?
And in our present time, why are so many Americans unwilling or unable to admit to themselves and others that we've eclipsed a time of normalcy, and that the foundations of the nation are at risk as radicals continue their campaign for fundamental change in both the streets and in the political backrooms of the U.S.A?
Some in media continue to report on what they call protests against police brutality.
Leftist activist Sean Penn tells CNN the protesters are defending our American freedoms in the street.
But what's really going on?
Some may still sincerely believe they're taking part in non-violent protests.
But others in the street have adopted tactics and strategies more aligned with armed insurgencies.
Police have been expelled by rioters from part of Seattle. There are reports armed by unnamed persons now patrol those streets, extorting payment from local businesses. There are also reports of check points being run by unknown persons or entities within the so-called "autonomous zone."
Hardly sounds like peaceful protest. Certainly not business as usual.
Let's connect some of the dots to what we're seeing in Seattle, Minneapolis and other cities across America.
Let's compare what we're seeing to some of the common traits of insurgencies or revolutionary actions of the recent and not so recent past - both at home and abroad.
How do you see what's happening? Where do you see it going?
Just some protests that got out of hand? Or the opening clashes of what may become a new American civil war?
Georgia's among the states that recently "reopened" after COVID-19 shutdowns. The spike in new coronavirus cases, predicted by many models, hasn't materialized. But that's not to say normalcy has returned.
COVID-19 modeling varies widely, but is any of the present modeling any more accurate than earlier models that first underplayed scenarios - then overplayed them?
What's with the conservative resistance to wearing a mask? Would COVID-19 spread nearly so far so fast as it did early on if public health 'experts' not insisted masks were counterproductive?
Regardless of whether COVID-19 comes back with more "spikes" or not, other damage has been done and must now be dealt with.
Some of it's psychological. Huge numbers of people seem to think it possible society just stay in lockdown indefinitely. That's not practical or feasible.
There's also the lasting impact to business and government's financial infrastructure.
Trillions of dollars in new debt has been created. Has there ever been a fiat currency that's survived intact when the backing goverment or related entity created massive amounts of money out of thin air?
Bigger questions lay ahead. Among them, how long does the fantasy of returning to normal - either short term or long term - linger before people realize how many bubbles have been popped?
Been a while.
Don and Doug have made use of sunny spring days to get gardens out, and other wise prep for a long emergency.
Pandemic may only be round one. Or will the actual pandemic be a multiple round affair?
Some states are ready to attempt "reopening." Some say it's a mistake. Some say they never should have shut down anyway. Some will argue the shutdowns were more about virtue signalling that actually doing a hard lockdown.
What's the best course from here?
Continue with practical precautions. Don't mingle unless you have to.
And keep preparing for what may come next.
Maybe we get lucky, and COVID-19 fades away, or we develop herd immunity, by early summer.
Or maybe it sticks around longer, while at the same time pushing economies into collapse, touching off hyperinflation, and potentially even famine.

But we've been saying from the start with is an unfolding, unprecedented crisis, and we weren't going to get off easy.
We'll analyze trends as we continue, more than ever, connecting the dots in these perilous times.
We spoke extensively of coronavirus (now being referred to as COVID-19) last show.
It's since spread to the USA.
We'll update some of our earlier observations, and connect some dots to where things may do next.
Central banks are slashing interest rates. They don't do that for the flu.
But how much of the present panic is fact based? How much is media generated hysteria?
There's been tons of bad, over politicized information dished out the past couple of weeks, a lot of it demonstratably false. Yet the phony narratives seem to keep on coming. Corrections appear sometimes, or independent "fact checkers" take note. But not always.
We'll also talk politics. Two weeks ago, the Democratic Party presidential contest had a wide field and lots of "progressive" promises.
Now? It appears party elites (and most of the candidates as of two weeks ago) and now in with Joe Biden.
And Biden? He still reads a teleprompter well, at times doesn't seem to remember he's running for president, and seems to think presidents appoint senators. He also seems to have trouble telling his wife from his sister.
Democrats want him to have the nuclear codes?
Let's set politics aside for the first part of Friday's program.
Unless you're following select financial media, you may not be seeing the deleloping coronavirus story that's unfolding.
Automakers world wide are now experiencing or reporting parts shortages.
Ships which are normally stuffed with goods coming out of Asia are now sailing mostly empty - if sailing at all.
A pandemic may not erupt worldwide, or in America.
But the economic fallout from the outbreak in Asia is beginning to show.
There's also coronavirus reported in Iran.
How'd that happen?
Will coronavirus spread in the Middle East? Will the Middle East become a gateway into Europe?
Are there prudent personal steps you may want to consider at this thing seems to remain unchecked?
We're not delving into wild conspiracy theories. Just connecting some dots in these perilous times.
Impeachment failed. Not that it was a serious prosecution. Did anyone believe Adam Schiff's warning that Trump was going to sell Alaska to Russia if he wasn't removed from office via impeachment?
Impeachment's over. And Trump came out swinging in an East Room session at the White House Thursday. Democrats, at least those yakking on media afterwords were aghast at some of the things Trump said, and the language that he used.
But after nearly four years ago being hounded and targeted, having campaign personnel smeared before a FISA court or subject to daming leaks from Ukraine, having the FBI play entrapment games with members of his transition team or other allies... After having to face down a coup attempt masquerading as an impeachment... After seeing Nancy Pelosi rip up the text of Tuesday's State of the Union address on live television... Does anyone really think Trump's out of line in calling out the political enemies who have tried over and over to do him in?
Can the nation now focus on the 2020 election primaries? Or will 2020 be another election year subject to attempts at manipulation?
We'll dig deeper into some of the other poltical stuff.
And some items outside what typically considered "politics."

Virginia remains under the control of "progressive Democrats." A big pro-gun demonstration went off without a hitch.
But did it change anything?
By the way, Virginia's Democrats are pushing a lot more than gun control.
The economy keeps chugging along. Or is it?
Are we living in good times economically? Or just blindly trusting the new bubble won't burst as others have?

Show reprises at 10:30 after a tech glitch
December 16, 2010. The Don and Doug webcast premiered.
Obama was president. But Republicans had just taken the hour. Surely the Republicans would put Obama's fundamental change of America in check. We were skeptical.
Fast forward nine years.
Democrats no longer believe they should abide by elections. Don't like who won? Harrass 'em. Smear 'em. Impeach 'em.
Democrats now use subpeona powers to snoop and spy on reporters and politcal rivals. So much for the First Amendment.
Democrats vow to reign in the Second Amendment. Vow to abolish the Electoral College.
The constitutional republic of the Founders, the America of our parents and grandparents, is under seige from within like never before.
Do we keep slipping (or being pushed) in the direction "progressive" Democrats want?
Let's also discuss the phenomenon of the "self funding" millionaire and billionaire candidates. Seems to be a growing number of them. Will this becoming a new "normal"?

Limited war strategies have replace total war strategies in most of America's political thinking.
In some of America's political thinking as well, but there are major exceptions.
We'll tackle some of the applications of said strategies we presently see - both in terms of military and political actions now shaping the nature and character of the USA today.
By the way, there's a new poll suggesting 7 in 10 Americans see the U.S. as moving toward civil war.
Few, if any, civil wars are fought under a limited war strategy.
Latest word on the White House "whistleblower"? Being reported as having worked previously with VP Biden.
Has DC thrown in the towel on any attempt to even pretend to have a legitimate government?
Personality and egos have run amok.
For example: How many of those who say the US has lost the confidence of allies after Trump "betrayed" the Kurds were among those cheering when a "whistleblower" showed the world that there's no such thing as a confidential phone call between foreign leaders and the president of the US?
Democrats have a win at any cost strategy, Republicans either act like they don't know what hit 'em, or that they can still be friends with their Democrat adversaries if they give in just more more time... then another... then another.
Meanwhile, if you can find any reporting on the Democratic presidential nomination race, what little there is seems to dwell on Elizabeth Warren rising to the lead.
Few, if any, ways out of the present mess.
And, best we can tell, what options there are will involve at the very least a "hard reset" like none of us living have seen here in the US.

Donald Trump may win reelection. Not be because he's won a lot of new followers. But because he's the candidate, maybe the only one, who's not talking about confiscating guns, mandating change to your diet. He's not vowing to shut down power plants, or pledging to put US gas and oil drillers out of business.
He's not taking envioronmental advice from an angry 16-year-old.
But those still expecting Trump to be a political savior for the nation, had best get a grip.
Another round of impeachment games, even if only rhetoric by the Democrats, seems to have sidelined the Trump agenda.
Three years in, no new wall.
Three years in, those who used government resources to try to throw a national election, remain free and walking the streets.
Three years in, Trump appears weak on opposing new gun control. And at times appears ready and willing to take credit if it happens.
A lot's happened the past few weeks. Let's try to connect some of the dots in these perilous times.
But admittedly, some of dots are sort of squishy.
Hard to get a hand on things when media outright makes stuff up without having any resemblence to facts.
Very surreal times.
News media jumped all over the notion that the mass shooter in Odessa, Texas bought his rifle in a private party sale.
But did he really? Or did he buy a black market rifle in a black market transaction?
Media is slow to bring forward additional details now that its agenda appears to have been delivered a set-back.
Meanwhile...
A Democrat "climate change" cable news mini-marathon dissed meat, electrical generation, cars, and other stuff for damaging the global climate. But should America trust the party that conned the country into Obamacare to create plans to regulate and "rescue us" from these alleged climate culprits?

Been some strange things happening lately.
Anti-Trumpers, who looked the other way when Obama was "detaining children in cages" and had them sleeing on the floors, now get upset when Trump orders beds for children in those faclities.
Anti-Trumpers get upset that Trump spent millions on a Washington July 4th commemorance that included displays of tanks and other military hardware. Many of these same critics applauded as Obama squandered a billion dollars worth of military ordinace to bomb Libya back to the point of being a land run piecemeal by warlords and Islamic militias... touching off a North African mass migration into Southern Europe.
Meanwhile Democrats are doubling down on socialist platforms, promises, and rhetoric. Free health care for illegal immigrants, but you're still taxed a penality under Democrat-created if you don't buy health insurance at the inflated prices delivered by Obamacare.
Lots of bobbing and weaving, political promises, and political pandering as the 2020 campaign cycle ramps up.
Let's talk about what's changed. But maybe more importantly, what hasn't, since we voted in 2016.
Let's talk about where we go from here as we continue connecting the dots in these perilous times.

One that compared the Vietnam War with the present cold civil war in the USA.
It appears there's a core similarty the two conflicts share.
And it's not one favorable to the conservative side in the present American division.
Is it too late to level the playing field? What would it take?
Are we giving the Left too much credit? Are we overstating its strength, popularity or resolve?

Today, modern food supplies come from farther away than ever before. When growing sources and distribution chains remain intact, it's a wonderful thing. But as political turmoil mounts, will those distribution channels be as dependable as they are now?
Backyard gardens and other home grown foods may be key to staying alive and healthy as political uncertainty accelerates in our present age.
But home gardening, at least in term of edible crops, seems at a low ebb in comparision to past decades.
So, this Friday, at the start of this year's planting season, let's discuss some of the whys and hows of putting crops in the ground.

Trump says he is leaving investigation of the crime up to Barr and Graham. Do they really have the resolve to take on the 'deep state'?
Trump say he plans to release the classified FISA documents. Why limit it to that. And will even that get done? He's talked about releasing relative documents before, but has been talked out of it.
What's up with the Democrats?
Reparations talk resurfaces. Democrats afraid of losing the African American vote? Dream boy Beto seems lost and confused. And he reported ate dirt, yes real dirt, after losing the senate race to Ted Cruz.
Speculation afoot that Stacey Abrams may form an aliance with Joe Biden, becoming his 2020 running mate? Does this mean she's given up seeking a senate seat in Georgia?
Republicans seem just as confused, unwilling to move their own agenda forward.
Senators Mitt Romney and Johnny Isakson both blasted Trump for making negative comments about the late John McCain. Did Romney or Isakson even real the Trump transcript for context, or did they shoot from the hip based on the smeary telling in national media?
And had you seen the latest from Glenn Beck? Beck's not the never-Trumper he once was.
As we continue to connect the dots in perilous times, things keep getting worse, not better.
The US Senate has vote to overturn the president's declaration of a national border.
That's not the necessarily the same as saying the emergency isn't real, just that for various reasons, perhaps members of the senate, including some Republicans, want you to remain in denial.
The national emergency continues to build.
Or is it more accurate to say the national emergencies?
Where do things go from here?
If there are national emergencies afoot, what's your personal plan if those elected to serve in Washington continue to sit on their hands as the emergencies grow more perilous?

Bad week for Trump haters. Paul Manafort got a light sentence, and what he was sentenced for had no ties to "Russian collusion."
Michael Cohen files a civil lawsuit against Trump. The Left cheers. But we also remember how the Left cheered when Stormy Daniels sued Trump. How'd that turn out?
Democrats in Congress, meanwhile, can't find the moral courage to denounce the anti-Semitic comments of one of their own. They're already the party of Infanticide. How far into the range of inhumanity will they take things by Election 2020?
Green New Deal a bust. Despite claims that without it, the world ends in 12 years.

Two major gun manufactureres have reported decling gun sales in First Quarter 2018. Yet FBI background checks used to verify buyers in gun purchase transactions have broken monthly records in at least two months this year. What's up with that?

Never mind that a it was a shotgun and a revolver used in the last school mass shooting. It's still being spun as an argument to register, ban or otherwise restrict private ownershp of semi-automatic firearms.
Just how many guns are there out there that might be further regulated? What if those who own them fail to comply?

Meanwhile, it's been another good week for President Donald Trump.
Robert Mueller's scrambling to delay the trial of some Russians he managed to indict. Apparently poor Robert didn't think the Russians would actually respond via the U.S. legal system.
The whole scenario of anti-Trumpers, first out to derail his campaign, then his transition, then his presidency, seem to be outing a wider, more sinister conspiracy than even Trump supporters first suspected.

Dodd-Frank, the Democrats' poor excuse for consumer financial protections, is seeing repealed. Maybe what's needed is full repeal. Those of us who know how to manage our money resent being forced to be lumped in with those consumers who don't.

The political left has been lecturing since Parkland that armed on-campus school security isn't a solution to stop or prevent school shootings.
More guns on campus don't make anyone safer, they say.
An incident in Maryland this week proved them wrong.
Meanwhile, the gun control crowd plans to march in Washington Saturday.
Organizers have created a legend that the march is the work of student activists.
Facts and common sense tell you it's the anti-gun lobby that's pulled the event together to push an agenda that's been in place long before the Stoneman Douglas shooting.
The U.S. national debt continues to rise. The Obama years took it to $18 trillion, nearly double what it was when he took office. But now Democrats want you to panic because Trump ran a trillion dollar deficit his first year in office. But the real bottom line is, neither party seems to give a damn that they're spending the country into ruin.

Notable news media and other headliners have now been targeted as a rash of sexual harassment or assault allegations spill across America.
Employers and fellow employess sometimes express shock as the allegations go public. But are they really shocked by the allegations, or is it the accusers have broken with a cult of silence, and the accusations are now fodder for other media that's most shocking within the ranks?
Let's also ponder why now is the time this apparent code or cult of silence is being broken.
What part does a president play? Has Trump's willingness to challenge media and political establishments played part in emboldening others to do the same? Maybe media and government esablishments no longer seem so intimidating or all-powerful when each seems to get so rattled with targeted by something as simple as Trump tweet.

What's up with that?
Congress keeps tinkering with what it calls tax reform. In reality, it's just some shuffling. And creating a larger pool of people who will pay no tax whatsoever, but who will continue to vote themselves perks from government.
Stock markets keep reaching record highs. How much higher can they go.
And it appears the NFL is trying to use cash to quash those embarrassing "take a knee" protests,
Meanwhile, early indications are that firearms are again big sellers this holiday season. Where the heck are all these guns going? How many just sit in a box, how many actually get taken out and fired?
This time last week, political establishment and national media were on ahigh horse, pushing to upset a U.S. senate special election.
A week later, the targeted outsider candidate is still standing (at this writing), while a sitting member of the senate has been outted in a photograph doing, well... You've probably seen the picture...
What's really in play here?
Maybe "The Swamp" is finally under enough pressure that its true nature is no longer hidden behind a cloak or curtain.
There's a report new gun control measures may soon be on its way to congressional consideration.
Yet another sign of an increasingly pressured political establishment feeling pressure, maybe insecure?

Hurricane forecasts: For all the hype this time last week, Irma did not prove to be the mother of all hurricanes when it came to its hit on Florida. A bad storm yes, it it more closely followed the Don Dickinson model than why was being pushed by mainstream media.
More statues are under attack. We'll have other examples too of how this stuff is moving beyond the cover of political protest, and is taking on a form more inline with revolutionary insurrection. And yet most Americans, outside the revolutionary circles, seem to be sleeping soundly as it escalates.
Look out, Florida. As we prepare for Friday's show, it appears a monster of a mega hurricane is setting its sites on Florida. Meanwhile, Houston is still in the very earliest of recovery phases from Harvey.
For the most part, we've seen images of unity and neighbor-helping-neighbor come out of the storm zones.
Will the uniity last, or do those with political ambition to divide America soon target storm zones hoping to sew discontent over the scope and scale of recovery efforts?
So far, media and politicians are making little effort to outline what the costs of rebuilding will be, and what the impact will be on the national economy as money is diverted to disaster zones.
By the way, have you seen the pictures of people lined up outside stores in Florida trying to buy basic hurricane supplies? Most likely the stuff they seek is stuff they should have bought and put on hand at home prior to hurricane season.
Meanwhile, DC is making moves to put immigration reform back on the front burner. The the Republican establishment in Washington continues to be more of a foe than a friend to the Republican president.

For a time, perhaps most of last weekend, mainstream media seemed confused.
Hurricanes are generally top stories to generate cable news ratings, but for a time, talking heads and Trump bashing still seemed to dominate some news hours. Eventually, even the talking heads had to throw in the towel as the Houston story grew.
But how does a news media report on a story that flies in the face of their own political agenda?
Everyday people became heros and rescuers, racial lines didn't seem to matter. Quite typically, it was regular folks to got to those in trouble first, rendering aid long before government got people on scene.
So the media played along with hurricane coverage, but with more than its share of political snark.
Let's talk about it Friday, along with some of the other lessons learned from Houston.
Americans working together to aid Houston and Gulf Coast recovery could go a long way toward calming tensions in America as it shows recent racial discord is more an illusion ginned up by political opportunists. On the other hand, those same opportunists probably see Houston as a stage with potential to deepen the national divide.
Which way will America let this play out?
Whatever else you take away from Harvey, let it be a reminder to get your own disaster plan together. Government's not always going to be there to bail you out.
The two U.S. senators from Arizona are Republican, but they've also been huge critics of President Trump, sometimes making the margin that's blocked his agenda on Capitol Hill.
This week, Trump took to a stage before a huge crowd in Arizona to call them out.
Don's been saying since the election that Trump should and would take direct action to those in Congress who continue to block Trump and the agenda American voters chose by electing him president.
Trump also had harsh criticism of the GOP leadership over the senate as well, but seemed to hold back. He could have delivered a much more withering broadside.

Media in general, and CNN especially, was also targeted with withering scorn as Trump slammed media criticism of his response to events in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Meanwhile, Confederate statues are vandalized, covered up or taken down. And you might be deemed a racist provocateur if your name even closely resembles that of a long-dead Confederate fighter.
The battle for the heart and soul of America continues. Do you choose to engage, or are you still trying to maintian bystander status?
What happened in Charlottesville last weekend may seem like old news.
But there's a lot that so-called mainstream media hasn't told you. Case can be made that media's reporting was so one-sided, it deliberately seeks to give cover to a political movement just as ugly, but perhaps bigger, and more entrenched, than domestic U.S. neo-Nazism.

Few, if any, in media mention the U.K., through NATO, gave air support to anti-Gaddafi militias. Yet this guy still wanted deliver retribution for what he considered crimes against Muslims.

Nearly three months after Donald Trump's presidential election, Democrats still play the part of sore losers, vowing to obstruct the Trump administration in any way it can.
Yes, Republicans ,to some extent, opposed parts of the early Obama agenda. They did so in voting, by activiely participating in the sanctioned governing process.
With Trump, Democrats are resorting to legislative committee boycotts, staged mass protest intended for media camera consumption, and "nights of broken glass."
Democrats seem to believe sheer bullying can reverse the course chosen by the nation in November's election.
To some extent, we've seen Democrats act like this before, when they attempted to un-do the reforms of Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker. Staged protests, legislative boycots were a part of the game plan. And the harder Democrats pushed, the less clout they seemed to have.
How much longer, and how much deeper can Democrats attempt to unleash anti-Trump hysteria? And will it be any more effective than it was against Gov. Walker?

Note too that Democrats now suggest hackers altered or rewrote Clinton campaign emails Wikileaks has released. Democrats are smart enough to know they have to attack the authenticity, knowing these emails will continue to undermine Clinton credibilty whether she holds another elected office or not.
So we ask: Has the 2016 campaign more deeply divided America? Or has it merely brought to the surface, and made recognizable, how deep the division's been for a some time now?
One more thing: What happened to all the war with Russia talk the Obama administration was pumping out a week or two ago? Did polling show it was a flop with the American people, so they put a chill on it? Meanwhile, Russia continues to respond as if it was the real deal.

Meanwhile, Ted Cruz is being compared to Moses... And has proposed a flat tax to replace the federal income tax.
Is there really any political will in DC to eliminate the IRS? Or is Cruz doing what other Republicans have done in the past, using the idea of "flat tax" or "fair tax" to distract from other issues, while generating some buzz for his fundraising pitch?

Forget it. There's no such thing. Many of those who preach political civility as a dig at Trump are the same ones who plot to steal the Republican nomination from either Trump or Ted Cruz, and seek install a nominee more to the politial elite's liking.
The same political elite that demanded Donald Trump not undertake a third party presidental run also now have members plotting a third party to spoil Trump should he wrangle the GOP nomnation.
Those who demand political civility seem to think it makes for a docile electorate unable or unwilling to counter or protest corrupt party bosses. Republican back rooms appear places where everything but political civility is plotted and practiced.
Meanwhile, there's a new force threatening to emerge, adding more uncertainty to an already rocky political year.
Many of the same groups that targeted last week's Trump rally in Chicago now say they'll target the U.S. Capitol next month.
If the capitol comes under seige by Leftist mobs, will Republicans still insist it'sTrump's fault, or that the mobs will vanish if Republicans just act more civil?

Doug is encouraged by the present populist uprising in American politics, but doesn't expect it to deliver a swift or stunning reversal of affairs.
If successful, the populist revolution will displace the elites, or at least drastically diminish their grip on power. Yet a populist uprising also holds potential to usher in deeper political clashes, perhaps even a sort of dark age until our civilization returns to basic, proven civics and discards the folly of political correctness.
In an online discussion, Don responded along similar lines:
Dark ages are required for the same reason as recessions and depressions.
Recessions and depressions are part of the normal business cycle.
Dark ages are part of the normal social cycle.
Populists are part of the normal cycle because they are the only ones who can form large groups in times of insanity.
Artificially preventing either the business cycle or the social cycle for an extended time only insures that when nature again takes hold, the snap back to the mean will be more powerful than if nature had been allowed to take its course.
The new dark age will be especially bleak as it will almost certainly involve Internet outages if not a complete collapse.
In previous dark ages, people at least retained knowledge of basic things like farming, how to start fires, or how to take a leak or take a dump in the woods if need be.
Few of this generation, at least in the U.S. (and in much of Europe), have ever had an interest in operating at a more basic level, and have increasingly abandoned skills of both the un-mechanized world as well as technologies formerly embraced in the analog one.

You may have noticed the stock market's off to a rough start in early 2016, and cheap oil's not delivered the positive economic boost many so-called experts predicted it would.
Dry bulk shipping, the kind of shipping that moves masses of raw materials by sea from sourcing to manufacturers is also now reported to be "in a state of collapse." It's a dour data point suggesting manufacturers don't share the rosy economic optimism publicly expressed by politicians and media.

Concepts of diversty and equality pushed under political correctness took a huge hit in the opening days of 2016. And the unraveling of PC doctrine will likely continue as the new year advances.
Reports of migrant mobs assaulting women in German cities were inititially denied or played down in the cities where they happened, but the mobs were so large, and the attacks so numerous, even political correctness couldn't keep a lid on what happened.

That dubious honor likely goes to South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who in delivering what was supposed to be a Republican response to the president's address, chose to instead attack the Republican party base who no has faith in the Republican party's ruling elites.
Let's not forget that Gov. Haley, much like the political elites in Germany, was an outspoken supporter of resettling large number of Middle Eastern migrant in her own state until voter outcry demanded she retreat, at least publicly, from her position.

The go-it-alone gun control games put forth by Barack Obama is an early cause for great concern. Maybe he's just pandering to his base with some bureaucratic shifting... Maybe he's ready to send ATF agents into gunshows to start some serious confiscation ops. We'll parse some of the finer points.
Then there's Germany. Cologne specifically. Where politically correct politicians dare not mention Muslims in connection with a wave of sexual assualts perpetrated against German women on New Year's Eve. So far, the city's response has focused on telling women to dress more conservatively, and to put more distance between themselves and men. At the rate things are going, Burkas may be the recommended attire for next year's New Year's celebrants in Cologne.
Forget not that the Obama team (and complicit Republicans) are working right now to airlift tens of thousands of "refugees" to America. Maybe by next New Year's, American communities will have their own Cologne-like experiences.

Let's stop playing games. Let's start calling it for what it is.

But ideologies are clashing, and enough forces are in play that the next unpredicted, unexpected, explosive event could ignite something even the most naive deniers of today won't help but recognize.
Consider the Cold War is hot again like it hasn't been in decades. And has there ever been mass migration out of a region like we're seeing out of the Middle East? And all these extraordinary events are being absorbed at a time world economies couldn't handle business as usual without extraordinary measures to keep themselves propped up.
We'll fill in some of the gaps with specifics at show time.
Don and Doug aren't soothsayers, and we aren't fortune tellers. But there's enough data points to say the United States, and Western Civ as we've known it, is in serious, imment danger.
Europe's under seige by Islamic migrants, whether or not Europe wants to acknowledge the danger or not.
The United States, too, has political leaders obsessed with encouraging massive in-bound migration through open borders and direct "refugee" resettlment.
Meanwhile, the financial footing of the West gets ever more shaky. Like a heroin addict, western economies are now hooked on massive infusions of cheap fiat currencies. But even with all the cheap money infusions, it seems harder and harder for economies to engineer even the appearance of growth.
Politcally speaking, the American divide is one of historic proportions perhaps rivaling those leading up the American Civl War and the War for Independence. Yet politicians want nothing to do with reuniting the country, largely because they see their power base can expand a formerly united nation is reduced to a series of squbbling camps and factions.
So, let's get serious. Lets seriously consider things go from today's bad to something much worse - with little to no warning.
Does it happen as soon as next year? Let's swap some pros and cons along that line of thinking on Friday's Don and Doug.
We'll also talk strategies that must be started now if you expect to reasonably cope with what's coming - whether it starts next year or another ten years out.
Obama won't budge. He insists we need to import hundreds of thousands of Musilm Syrian refugees for the diversity they'll bring. Obama says their inclusion in American cities will make us stronger.
An increasing number of both Republican and Democrat governors have said no to Syrian resettlment in their states. Does Obama move forward anyway, and force the potential Jihad threat on unwilling communities?
Meanwhile, it's apparently still official policy in the UK that Islamic Jihad should not be linked to Islam.
Ten years ago this month, Belgium authorities undertook a series of raids as they investigated a Belgium-born woman's suicide bomb attack on US troops in Iraq. Now, ten years later, Belgian authorities are conducting raids seeking those complicit with the attacks in Paris.

Don't bother trying to justify what's happening at #Mizzou by comparison to 1960s college style protests, there are few similarities. But there are some deep contrasts that can be made; among them, in the 1960s, administrators had the moral courage to stand up to Marxists and Maoist bullies.
One more contrast, without giving away all this week's program content, in the '60s, protestors claimed their actions to be about wider freedom. Today, what's happening on campuses like Missouri or Yale is about crushing dissent, and mandatory enforcement of uniformity of thought.
What's happening at #Mizzou is the latest incarnation of #Occupy. And an off-shoot of #BlackLivesMatter. An attempt to instill chaos, and destroy social framework, for the sake of pursuing ambigious goals triggered by events either inconsequential in their original form, or twisted into narratives that don't match the original incident.
Meanwhile, while most eyes are on the college campuses, it's reported the Trans Pacific Partnership deal has landed on Obama's desk, ready to sign. Canada, and Australia are among parties to the TPP already voicing grave concerns. One Australian arbitration lawyer says the text contains provisions for foreign investors to sue governments if those investors believe a govenrment has harmed their business.
Sounds like an other vehicle for psuedo-Marxists like Obama to globally "spread the wealth around", while simultaneously disassembling what's left of U.S. based commerce.

But Obama on Monday signed the federal budget bill crammed through by Republicans last week. The deal eliminates any cap on the federal debut through the remainder of Obama's final term in office. Obama says he applauds this as part of a "longer term, more responsible budget process."

You may have also seen in the past week or so that an heir to the Disney forture now spends her money and time creating documentaries touting progressive causes. Abigail Disney's latest venture chronicles an evangelical minister whose outlook on guns has undergone conversion, and he now preaches gun control.

Try to connect today's dots, and it looks like scribbling. Expect no better when the dots are from today's leaders, who lead with the immaturity of a raging child with a box of broken crayons.

Update: Bad as this week's events in Congress have been, we'll likely open this program by connecting the dots provided by some of the recent anti-gun rhetoric from Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. While only hints have been dropped so far, the an outline may be emerging on how they think they'll pull off gun confiscation in the not-to-distant future.

Why's the budget deal such a betrayal?

Ironically, this also appears to be the week that the Left has launched an assault on the idea that there's a "war on police" in America. It's just not happening, according to lefty pundits on social mediia as well as articles in the Daily Beast, and the Washington Post.
While citing statistics, the naysayers fail to acknowlege the series of open calls for such a war. It may be a fringe movement, with few sworn adherents, but it certainly seems naive to say it doesn't exit.
Of course, the Left also embraces arguments that there's no such thing as Islamic terrorism, or that the Islamic State isn't Islamic either.

The Left is giving itself an ulcer frettting about a court clerk in Kentucky who refuses to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. She's a government employee, and she has to follow the law, the Lefties say.
Have these advocates for "following the law" chimed in on Obama's selective enforcement of immigration law, or on Hillary Clinton's improper use of private email? Or how about the president's recent unilateral undoing century old legislation that named a mountain in Alaska?
Seems to us, the progressives in DC have set the standard for picking and choosing which laws matter.
How come progressives are getting bent out of shape when local officials adopt the same sort of practice and mindset?
Democrats have apparently latched onto the Virginia TV news crew murders to review their emotion filled calls for more gun control, but exactly what kind of restriction might have stopped Wednesday's killing?
From what I can tell, the killer in Virginia was a gay black man with no legal infractions in place that would have precluded gun purchase or ownership.
Are Dems saying they want to make it harder for angry gay minorities to obtain firearms.?
How many times has Donald Trump been compared to HIlter in the past few weeks?
How many times has mainstream media still found glowing things to say about Hillary Clinton?
The levels of irrationality seem to grow ever higher as Campaign 2016 continues to act like a runaway train.

A friend send us a link this week to a report out of Venezuela that newborns are dying in hospital from exposure to bacteria spread by an infestation of opposums at the facility. The report also said restroom service was spotty as well.
Six years ago, there was many a Lefty who touted Venezuela's "constitutional right" to health care as a model for the U.S. to follow. Even just a couple years back, as consumer goods began to be in short supply, and the Venezuelan economy was faultering, many an American or European Lefty dismissed such reports as media hype, just biased bashing of a popular socialist regime.
The facade of prosperity is now long gone. Venezuela's hit the wall. It's in full collapse, and despite a government crackdown on news reporting, those stories that do get out paint an ever more dire picture.

There was a new protest chant in Ferguson, Missouri the other day.
"What are we ready for?
"We're ready for war."
Last fall in Ferguson, the sound of pro-Communist chants echoed in the streets of Ferguson.
It was noted in the Washington Post this week that black shirts adorned with imaged of hammers and sickles were popular attire at this week's Bernie Sanders rally in Los Angeles.
Yet most Americans likely continue to scoff at the idea of communists infiltrating or having control or influence over a mainstream political campaign or party.
Is the idea of a new American revolution or civil war really such a far flung fantasy? How many (or how few)fantacizers would it take to make one happen?
Meanwhile, we're seeing never before seen signs of economic trouble here at home and abroad.
The U.S. Treasury, by its official figures, now says the national debt hasn' t changed in 150 days. No bigger, no less.
It's not that the government finally got spending under control, it's just playing accounting games to avoid admission we've crossed, or are about to cross, into a level of debt prohibited by law.
China's also playing some new games. With signs its economic bubble may be about to burst, China's moved to devalue its currency. There are those who go so far to speculate China may be about to launch a bid to promote its Yuan as the new world reserve currency, supplanting the role now played by the U.S. dollar.

Meanwhile, there's a report circulating that Trump hasn't voted in the last six presidential elections. Is it true? Does it matter?
Democrats haven't scheduled any debates thus far. Can't blame 'em with all the Hillary Clinton scandals. Dems may also worry about putting an unscrpited Bernie Sanders on live TV to tout the virtues of socialism.

The media had trouble reading a brief statement issued by the Navy over the weekend. It did not contradict something Allen West had reported. It did not make Allen West out to be a liar, despite what you may have read or heard.

Exploiting the deaths by a lone racist gunman in Charleston, South Carolina, the self-proclaimed progressive poliltical Left has embarked on an emotion-driven campaign to exorcise the south of images of southern Civil War history.
And Republicans who hold elective office seem in competition to see who can cave faster to the progressive demands.
On the heels of South Carolina's governor calling for removal of the targeted Confederate flag on the grounds of that state's capitol, Georgia's governor vowed to redesign its state license plate that notes desendents of Confederate veterans.
And the Associated Press (the same news collective that published a photo with a gun pointed at Sen. Ted Cruz's head) has rushed forward with a list of Confederate memorials across the south. Will these be next as the progressives continue to purge reminders of history they find offensive, or contrary to their agenda?
History is a complicated thing. It can seldom be comfortably boiled down to black and white, and it's sometimes hard to cleanly parse right and wrong. Some memorials and rembrances may trigger uneasiness or introspection as they witness to history's complexities. The political left, however, seems to like its history told with a narrow narrative - one intended to spin uniformity of thought, and a progressive world view.
This Friday, we'll talk about these, as well as other efforts, by the political left to rewrite America's history and change its traditions. And if you think saying so is over reaction, Michelle Obama made a specific promise in 2008 that a changed American history was exactly what hubby Barack would accomplish if elected president and given a chance.
It seems many in America want to keep provoking Russia. In Europe last week, Jeb Bush came off sounding like a Barack Obama understudy when it came to American policy on Ukraine and in assessing Russian President Vlad Putin.

At this writing, TV broadcast networks balk at the idea of carrying Obama's Thursday night immigration address. Maybe MSM now seeks to begin distancing from the Obama beast it helped to create. Maybe MSM thinks if Obama's trashing of constitutional bounds isn't live on TV, the sheeple won't see what he's doing as important.
Of all the Obama prime time addresses, this is the one where he's taking his role as president farthest from its constitutonal limits. He is, in effect, changing the nature of American government. If you wanted fundamental transformation, this is it.

On Thursday, February 20, the Georgia House of Representatives took up four measures relating to an Article V convention focused on amending the United States Constitution.
Among the measures approved was Senate Resolution 731, which was passed by the Georgia Senate last year seeking a Convention of States focused on enacting a federal balanced budget amendment.
We encourage those who favor and those who oppose an Article V convention to here how the debate played out in the Georgia House.

And here in the U.S., there's a less showy, more underground form of protest that's receiving notice this week. Somewhere between 20,000 and 100,000 gun owners in Connecticut are said to have snubbed a new state requirement to register their gun mags and "military style" rifles.

Many details remained under wraps as the plan was debuted, but Republican elites like Paul Ryan and John Boehner are hard at work trying to sell us on the value of a budget deal with the Democrats that, according to the Washington Times, spends about three times more than any cuts it may provide.
It's a bipartisan plan alright. One that again kicks the can, and tries to keep the false appearance of American normalcy alive through the November 2014 elections. The deal appears designed primarily to benefit congressional incumbants seeking reelection next year - and the rest of us get stuck with the tab.

The more the Obama administration seems to stumble, the more it seems to fall back on Soviet style tactics to muster public support.
The president has even suggested alcohol would be beneficial in selling young people on Obamacare.
Seriously?
Sounds like the old Soviet model. Keep the masses plied with vodka, and they might not notoice, or at least complain too loudly about how crappy everything else is.
There was another warning sign this week when an active duty American military officer callef for confiscation of civilian firearms here in the U.S. But at least he didn't call for cheap booze to help sell his treason to the masses.

This seems to be setting up ideally for the rise of a third part but I see no sign of it.
A vacuum of political legitimacy exists in America. When that happened in France, it led to the rise of Napoleon but I do not see that here either.

A news report this week makes the claim the national employment report just prior to the 2012 election was manipulated in a manner favorable to the president's reelection effort.
Also prior to the election: The "you can keep it" lie of Obamacare, and the administration's claim that the Benghazi attack was caused by an "Internet video."
All played well with trusting sheeple going into November 2012.
If Obama's administration manipulated data and deliberately lied to win his reelection, is his claim on the presidency still morally or legally legitimate?

Obamacare becoming unglued... How much does the havoc caused by it have impact inside the White House?
You'd think the failures of Obamacare would cause progressives to pull back, at least to regroup. And yes, there are some Democrats, especially those up for reelection, who seem to be calling for just that.

More than three years after passage by Congressional Democrats, people are finally beginning to see how ill conceived it was. The House and the Senate remain at odds (as of this Wednesday show pitch), but who'd have thought the administration of President Obama would go so outright thuggish as it tries to exert pressure on the GOP to cave in the battle to defund Obamacare. Amazing turn of events this week on Syria, and the Obama administration seems to have suffered great embarrassment both at home and abroad. The New York Times surrendered it's op-ed page to Vladimir Putin, who used it to take some digs at the U.S. Meanwhile, there were things to cheer this week. Bunches of patriotic bikers rolled through the nation's capital, while a previously promoted pro-Muslim event fizzled. And a couple of anti-gun senators in Colorado were ousted in a recall election.
