This episode is for you if August has you feeling like it might be time to look at your business with fresh eyes - annnnnd you don't want to blow everything up in the process.

A reset isn't about destruction - nope, It's about straightening the piles, putting away the chaos, and getting clear on where you are before you decide where you're going. Today I'm walking you through exactly what I do for myself every August - a simple recalibration that takes about less than an hour and leaves you with a real plan for the second half of the year.

Three things you'll take away:

*Start with25+ successes before you touch anything else. Your brain will tell you there are only five. It's wrong. Sit with it, let it percolate, and for the love, do. not. skip. this. step - knowing what's working makes you far less tempted to tear everything down.

*Data without context is just nonsense numbers. Revenue, client counts, list growth - they don't mean much on their own. Adding context is where the real story is, and it's almost always better than you think.

The reset isn't just about what to do or even to stop doing - it's about how you want the next six months to feel. Do more of / do less of / do none of is the framework, but the feeling question is what makes your decisions actually stick.

This one's practical, fast, and something you can do with a notebook and a half hour. Let's go!!

This episode is for you if you're exhausted from all of the multitasking, you've done all the ways 'they' told you to do it different and you're still second-guessing yourself.

My guest Nadine Elsasser spent 30+ years in corporate boardrooms in New York and London - and just as many years quietly in the world of intuition and deep inner work. Today she's a spiritual and transformational coach, and this conversation is a good one.

Three (of the 92389) things you'll take away:

  • Multitasking isn't a superpower — intuitive prioritization is, and they are not the same thing
  • Your intellect and intuition aren't in competition — but one of them needs to be in charge first
  • It's not "trust again" — it's trust deeper, and that changes everything about how hard it feels

Ready for an amazing conversation and a deep breath? This is for you. Listen on!

This episode is for you if you ever feel stuck, off track, or like your brain is running the show - and not in a good way.

The other day, a client told me that the questions with the fewest words are always the most powerful ones. So I sat down and wrote out the questions I ask clients over and over again... the ones that create real change, real movement, and real progress. Turns out, not a single one of them is longer than three words (who knew?!).

Today I'm sharing all six:

  • What's working? (The one I lead with every single time, and yes, there's a reason for that)
  • Is it true? (The assumption-challenger your brain really doesn't want to hear)
  • What's the evidence? (Because your emotional brain and your data are often telling very different stories)
  • Does it matter? (The fastest way to cut your to-do list in half)
  • Why not? (The question I should have tattooed on my forehead)
  • Now what? (The one I'm asking a lot of clients right now as we head into the second half of the year)

These are post-it note questions. They're simple on purpose. And at least one of them is exactly what you need right now.

This episode is for you if you've been telling yourself "business is just hard"... and wondering if that's actually true, or if maybe you're making it harder than it has to be (doh).

There's a real difference between the natural messiness that comes with growth (and yes, success is messy; no that's not the problem!) and the kind of hard that happens when you're taking 30 steps when 3 would do. Today we're talking about how to tell which one you're in.

I'm sharing four common ways business owners turn the messy middle into an uphill battle:

  • The role your expectations are secretly playing
  • The gap between your plan and your actions (and what's actually creating it)
  • What connection — or the lack of it — is doing to your momentum
  • The confidence disconnect that makes selling feel way harder than it needs to

The question I keep coming back to - one I learned from a colleague at Encyclopedia Britannica, of all places - is: what's the problem you're actually trying to solve? Because when you can answer? Everything else gets a lot simpler.

You don't need to berate yourself to success. You don't need to be shoving yourself uphill. But you do need someone willing to ask you the hard question - because trust me, we are ALL very good at ducking it.

This episode is for you if your business is technically working… and it still feels like you’re running at full tilt, 24/7. You’re helping people, making money, and seeing results - and also wondering, “Why does this still feel so hard?”

As our businesses grow, some things get lighter and others get a LOT heavier. There are more decisions, more offers, more moving parts, and more pressure to “do it again” because it’s worked before. When it gets heavy, it doesn’t necessarily mean anything is broken – it just means it’s time to simplify.

Today I'm sharing three grounding + simplifying questions I use for myself and my clients, and we’ll talk about how to stop reinventing the wheel, trust what’s already working, and make your business feel like you again... just without burning yourself out.

Remember - you’re not doing it wrong. Feeling maxed out usually means your business has outgrown how you’ve been running it.

In this episode, I’m talking with sales and messaging expert Kim Kiel about something so many helpers and healers struggle with: charging 'high ticket' prices for the work you love to do. We're talking through what it really means to treat sales as an act of service, why raising your prices isn't you being greedy, and the way niching down helps simplify sales and selling. If you’re worried you’re charging too much, offering way too much for free, or scaring people off with your prices, this conversation is for YOU.

A few of the key takeaways:

--> Sales as an exchange of value and a way to help people get what they actually need, it gets a lot easier to show up, build relationships, and invite people into paid work.

--> Raising your prices to reflect your expertise and the transformation you provide doesn’t just support you -- it ALSO attracts more committed clients and gives you more room to offer scholarships, discounts, or free resources in a sustainable way.

--> Getting clear on who you’re for and speaking to the folks who are already close to a yes makes your messaging sharper, your offers clearer, and your sales conversations a lot less stressful. Ready for these and more?

In this episode, we're talking about one of sneakiest places business owners get stuck: the GAP between thinking about what we want to do and actually doing it. We're talking about passive planning (the thinking and mapping things out) and active planning (putting those plans on your calendar and into motion), and how to bridge between the two.

Three key takeaways:

--> Passive vs. active planning: Both are essential—thinking time and calendar time—and progress depends on connecting them with clear decisions.

--> It's mindset AND strategy: Sometimes the issue is time or tools, but also? It can be doubts like “no one will want this,” which stop you from even trying.

-->Your calendar is a decision tool: Giving your business “client-level” space on your calendar is one way to create the structure that turns plans into revenue.

In this episode, I talk with my friend and expert sales coach Kristen Sobel about how to make sales human, honest, and maybe even kind of fun (?!). We talk through what sales really IS (relationship-building and trust) versus what we’re all afraid it is (pushy, gross, or slimy), and talk through the invitational version of selling that we both teach clients - which does NOT require pelting anyone with pitches.

Kristen shares her uber-simple approach to sales through mindset, systems, and habits, and we get into the obstacles we ALL have including perfectionism, over-delivery, and all the sneaky ways we avoid selling—even when we want our businesses to grow.

My favorite takeaways:

Sales = Trust (Empathy + Authority)

Sales is about FIT on both sides.

If sales calls keep stalling,it's not that you’re “bad at sales.”

Ready to avoid selling less and instead have sales and selling be a normal, sustainable part of running your business? Listen on!

In this episode of Uncomplicating Business, I’m joined by my friend and brilliant LinkedIn strategist Molly Godfrey for a conversation about connection — on LinkedIn, sure, and also, everywhere else. We talk about connection IS [genuine curiosity and care without a specific agenda], and how trust sits at the center of everything we do as business owners.

We get into:

  • Why LinkedIn is more like your favorite coffee shop than you realize;

  • The convergence of trust and connection in successful networking;

  • The nuance of figuring out someone’s capacity for depth of connection (and why that matters!);

  • What to do when you feel disconnected, comparison-y, or in your head

Molly also shares how she handles lots of inbound connections without losing her mind (or human-ness!)

--> Simple systems beat heroic effort.

In this episode, I'm sharing my dear friend and grounding ninja, Stacey Andon, with you to talk about what being grounded really looks like in life and business. We talk through the difference between reacting and responding, why so many of us think chaos is “normal,” and how small, simple grounding practices can change the way you move through your day, your work, and your relationships - and make ALL of it simpler.

My fave 3 take-aways:

  • Effective grounding is layered - we need intellectual, emotional, and physical grounding working together.
  • Feeling behind, fixing everything, and chasing validation are signs of being ungrounded (and they’re more optional than they seem).
  • Tiny check-ins—like pausing to breathe and asking, “Am I reacting or responding?”—can start shifting you out of chaos and into grounded, intentional work.

In this episode, I share my approach to planning for a successful year by introducing three essential types of plans: the meta plan, the mini plan, and the accountability plan. Here’s what you’ll take away:

*Why creating a big-picture (meta) plan gives you clear direction and purpose for your year

*How breaking things down into step-by-step (mini) plans makes big goals feel manageable

*The importance of staying accountable—especially for uncomfortable tasks—and building support systems to keep you on track

You'll also hear how these strategies connect to the core foundations of success in business, and why a supportive community (like the Uncomplicating Business Lab) makes all the difference.

In this episode of "Uncomplicating Business," I sit down with my fabulous friend and business growth expert, Tracy Beavers about how trusting yourself, staying flexible in your planning, and taking consistent action are the real keys to business success. We talk imposter syndrome, figuring out the tech (hello, YouTube tutorials!), and making space for both fun and connection on the way to success.

Key takeaways:

  • Trust isn’t one-size-fits-all—sometimes it’s about betting on yourself in a big way, and sometimes it’s tiny daily acts of faith that move you forward;

  • Planning is essential, but the magic is in being willing to pivot and stay curious when life (or business) brings the unexpected.

  • Consistency is about commitment, not rigidity—showing up authentically matters more than sticking to a perfect plan.

  • The heart of business growth is connection; start with a simple coffee chat or DM—because you never know what opportunities might come from new relationships.

In this episode, I sat down with my dear friend Georgia Mulliss, a money coach who helps helpers and healers stop undervaluing themselves to talk about - of course! - trust. We talk about LOTS of things, including how self-abandonment keeps us stuck and how building self-respect is the first step to trusting ourselves in business.

Here are 3 of the MANY bits of good from our conversation:

  • Trust is the opposite of self-abandonment (yes, we DO say more about this...).
  • Pricing isn't just about money, it's about valuing your expertise and skills.
  • Business forces you to trust yourself faster than you might feel ready (which helps us EVERYWHERE else!).

You know that feeling where it seems like you're pushing success up a hill instead of letting it flow? In this episode, we are talking about the power of trust—trusting yourself, your timing, and the opportunities that come your way - and how it helps us to be in the FLOW. Barb Hubbard shares how more trust makes her success less complicated, how she's worked to develop a personal practice of trust, and why it's okay if meditation isn’t your thing. She also shares how she has struggled with both trust and receiving but now tracks five key ways she allows good things into her life (hint: money and compliments are on the list!). If you've ever felt stuck, this episode will give you a fresh perspective on trust, flow, and stepping into doing your work YOUR way from a business owner who has done exactly that!

In this episode of Uncomplicating Business, we’re talking about what I think of as an often overlooked topic in the entrepreneurial world: creating a workday that actually fits your life.

Today I’m sharing five questions to help you uncover your unique workday needs while helping you step away from conventional 9-to-5 expectations. We’ll assess what you really need from your day, challenge assumptions about work is ‘supposed’ to look like, and design a schedule that serves you rather than constraining you.

Whether you thrive in structure or prefer every day to look different, this episode is packed with practical tips to help you take control of your time and create a workday that WORKS for you!

Clarity is this magical thing that we feel like we have to FIND. It feels like something we have to search high and low for, and that we can't DO any of the things we want to do without. Because if we start and we're unclear, well... we might do something wrong, we might take a wrong turn, we might confuse people and that's bad, right? Well. Here's the thing. We DO need clarity... but the key to finding it is different than we think it is - and it comes in a different part of the process of growing a business than we think it does. It ALSO involves maybe a few wrong turns... but actually, they're right turns, we just didn't know it yet (we find that out once we HAVE clarity, omg...). So, how does this finding clarity thing ACTUALLY work? It's not complicated, it's just different than the way you're doing it right now...

Making offers - telling people what you do, why it matters to them, and how to get what they need/want - is vital to business success. People can't buy what you aren't telling them about. Making offers matters, and also, making BETTER offers allows the people you want to work with to understand what you offer faster, get why it would help them more easily, and actually buy from you faster. On this episode of the podcast I'm sharing 3 questions that I often share with clients when we're talking about making better offers. Use any one, two, or all three to make your offers better both today and every day from here on out!

Here's something humans - you and I and all of us - are REALLY good at... ready? We are really, REALLY good at assuming things that may not actually be true. In sales, there are a LOT of these kinds of assumptions, both that we make naturally, and that are IMPLIED by the traditional way of selling most of us are taught. In this episode we're going to talk about a handful of these assumptions that are making selling HARDER than easier AND then about what we can choose to remember instead to ease the sales process, starting NOW!

Having a business is great... except for the sales part' is something I hear a version of a LOT. And it's HARD to grow a business while hating the sales part - since the sales part is what actually creates, grows and FUNDS the business. So how do you change this? This week on the podcast we're talking about how to STOP hating the sales part of your business. I have four simple things you can do right now that will help you find (and maybe even love...) your inner sales person so that your business and your sales can grow without it all being so darn painful!

A client recently asked me how I 'did it all, all at once.' This is something we're all doing, right? You're building a business AND working AND parenting AND being a friend AND being a partner AND AND AND. So the question is, how do you do it all at once? In this episode I'm going to share my own version of this - my way of doing it all, all at once. At the very least you'll know you're not the only one out here still working to find the balance :) Listen on...

One of the simplest 'rules' out in the business world is that people have to know, like, and trust you in order to buy from you. It seems simple... but also, how do you actually GET people to know, like, and trust you - especially since we can't just MAKE people do those things, right? This week on the podcast I'm sharing the secret for creating know-like-trust as a business owner. And? It's not nearly as difficult as you've been making it! Listen on for all the goodness!

The more you talk about what you do the greater impact you will have on the people you want to help, AND the more income you'll create through your work.  It's visibility, and it's simple, right? Well... if you're an entrepreneur you probably know that this is easier said than done. So why exactly is it SO hard to talk more about what we do? And how do we actually talk about what we do more so that we can help more people and make more money AND also not hate who we become in the process? How can we talk more about ourselves and our work and NOT feel like we're bragging, oversharing or being pushy? Listen on...

No one wants to burn out. But at the same time? Most of us entrepreneurs skirt the edges of burnout more often than we'd like to admit - especially if you are also a parent, a spouse, a friend, a helper, a giver and a whole bunch of other things. It's possibly NOT what you think, and also NOT the advice most of us are given, especially in the entrepreneurship world. Want to NOT burnout on your way to success? Here's how.

One of the things I do a lot of coaching around is OFFERS. And one of the things I regularly help 1:1 and group coaching clients with is creating new (or revised) offers. Usually the process of creating an offer - and making all of the decisions needed to get it out, moving, and selling - takes less than 20 minutes and requires just a handful of simple decisions. This week on the podcast I'm sharing the key decisions I help clients make as they create new or revised offers so that YOU too can quickly and effectively decide what you're offering, exactly how it's going to work, and get MOVING on selling it.

Tired of getting to the end of sales calls and thinking 'well, THAT didn't go to plan?', OR even worse, thinking the call went well only to be ghosted?

The tricky thing about sales call and a sales process is that it involves someone else who may or may not be following the same script/process YOU have planned for your sales.

This lack of shared process (even if the other person doesn't know you're sharing) is a HUGE reason sales processes go wrong.

So, how do we SHARE the sales process and let that help us create more yeses?

The first step in re-balancing what you GIVE and what you GET back for what you give (which is how we stop overgiving, feeling burned out, feeling undervalued... so many things) is to actively decide what you WANT to give and what you do NOT want to give.

It really IS as simple as it sounds.

Today I'm sharing the questions you can ask yourself as you decide what you LOVE to give and what feels like too much so that you can feel better about both how you're showing up AND about what you're getting back when you do.

View Details

There's giving (and I'm a FAN of giving) and then there's giving too much.

So... how do you KNOW if you're giving too much? AND, more importantly, how can you continue to BE yourself - a giver - AND also NOT give so much that there's nothing left for you?

Let's talk about it.

One of the fastest ways to simplify what you DO in your business is to focus - ruthlessly - on doing what's YOURS to do and letting the rest go. And what on earth does that actually mean? Well... it starts with focusing on to-dos and the parts of to-dos (for example, like posting on social media, or making offers) that are within YOUR control - think focusing on making the post vs. what the algorithm will do with it once you hit the button. When we focus on DOING the things we can do - even the simplest things - we get more accomplished, in less time, with less fuss, with less drama AND we make more progress. Ready for that? Listen to THIS.

Want to save a ton of time (and energy, and money) in your business? It all starts with ONE question. Asking this question in your business on a regular basis will cut down on the things you don't love - drama, questioning, starting over and give you MORE of the things you WANT to gain - time, energy, money. Ready for less drama and more time? Of course you are :) Listen on to get started NOW.

In business and in life there are a handful of simple truths that, when we REMEMBER them, make whatever we're doing SIMPLER.

For the second in this series, one of the most important truths I've learned as a business owner is this: it's in your control.

Growing a business, owning a business, succeeding in business is IN our control.

Knowing this makes a HUGE difference because it helps us make key shifts inside and out, without which success becomes REALLY difficult.

So what are these shifts?

Let's talk about them...

We've all experienced this 'WOW, I need what she has' effect as buyers.

We meet someone and just immediately their energy, their vibe, their presence has us SOLD on whatever it is they are selling.

So, how do you BECOME that person, rather than just buy from them?

What can you do yourself to CREATE this 'wow, I need what she has' effect from the other side?

What you don't need to do is be someone else, channel some kind of innate charisma you don't think you have, or 'wear' a version of yourself you don't want to be.

NONE of that is required.

Instead? You can create this effect by focusing on your INTERNAL CONTROLABLES. What's that about?

Listen on to get the details...

For me, UNcomplicating success really comes down to ONE thing.

What's that thing? It's focusing on what's IN your control.

Sounds simple, right?

So why does this feel like a trick? Well... because as humans we aren't always super great at staying in our own lanes, at keeping our heads down and out of OTHER people's things, or at letting go of what other people might think of us... and that's what focusing on what's IN your control is really all about.

This week, I'm sharing how I think about what's in our control as business owners along with two of my favorite simple simple simple strategies for shifting YOUR focus to what's in your control more effectively day in and day out, starting NOW.

In business and in life there are a handful of simple truths that, when we REMEMBER them, make whatever we're doing SIMPLER.

For me the most powerful and useful of these simple truths is this: it's uncomfortable.

Growing a business, owning a business, succeeding in business is not for the faint of heart because it IS uncomfortable.

And it's MOST uncomfortable when we forget that the discomfort that comes with growing, changing, doing new things, challenging ourselves, and evolving is NORMAL.

In this episode of UNcomplicating Business we're going to talk about how to SIMPLIFY growth by normalizing being uncomfortable.

I'll be totally honest, this episode started as what I needed to hear...and turned into something YOU need to hear.

It's about the word NO.

But what if no isn't as bad as we think it is?

What if NO isn't actually a problem?

What if it's a GOOD sign, instead of a sign of the apocalypse?

This week I'm sharing the 4 things I needed to remind MYSELF about no this week, and maybe they'll be useful for you too!

We all want to stand out in the business world. We want to be known, to be seen, to have people WANT what we have. Except when we don't. Because really? Standing out is kind of scary. Being visible can be intimidating and so sometimes, we make ourselves just slightly smaller (or a lot...) so that we don't stand out sooooo much, but that's not actually standing out. ALLOWING ourselves to stand out and be seen is one of the hardest parts of business for some of us. This week on the podcast we're going to talk about how to ALLOW yourself to stand out - how to know if you're having this particular issue, what's in the way, and what do differently (without making yourself crazy) so that you can ACTUALLY stand out and grow your business as a result.

We all have a complicated relationship with the T word, also known as TRUST, in our businesses.

The question is WHY?

What's so hard about trust, and really, what role should trust even play in business (I mean, aren't we supposed to be using data to make decisions??)?

This week I'm going to share a bit of my business journey with trust, about it's role in my business, and those of my clients', and why I think it's one of the most impactful business skills you can learn... more trust creates more success with more ease.

Want ALL of that?

In episode 71 we talked about the ABC model of selling and why it does NOT fit teachers.

But if the not that model, then what?

On this episode of Teachers in Business, I'm going to introduce you to a different model - ABG (always be GIVING) that is FAR more flexible and likely WAY more in line with your values, how you relate to your customers and clients, and who you want to BE as a business owner.

The good news is that ABG is SIMPLER to follow than ABC, AND it works like crazy.

Want selling to be simpler and feel more like YOU? This episode is for YOU.

If selling feels spammy, frustrating, overcomplicated, and out of alignment with what you actually value,  the problem might NOT be you. It might be the MODEL. The most commonly taught sales model is something I think of as ABC - always be CLOSING. This model is underneath SO MANY of the books, courses, trainings, and freebies out in the world today. It's  taught asTHE way...and yet it's FAILING you (and me) and so many other people. On this episode of Teachers in Business I'm going to share why exactly ABC feels SO terrible, and why it might NOT be THE way for you and your business, esp. if you are or were a TEACHER.

What is MISSING? And what do we NEED to actually accomplish what we set out to do?

I have to let you in on a secret.

One of ways you are shooting yourself in the foot right now is by NOT taking credit for your wins.

How do I know?

Because ALL of my clients (plus me and everyone I know) DO this same thing.

How do you know you are doing it? Well, when something works out do you tell yourself you were 'lucky', that it happened 'out of the blue', and or that 'it just happened to work out well'?

If you trot out one of these, or anything like them, you are NOT taking credit for your own successes, and it's HOLDING YOU BACK.

Today on the podcast, I'm going to share with you the TWO simple steps you can take right now to start taking credit for your wins (and to create MORE of them as a result!).

Watch out, it's a bonus episode! Success BEGINS as an inside job and on this episode, the fourth in this series on success, we're going to talk about PROOF. Proof is a tricky thing - to have people buy from us, we need proof of success; but to have proof of success we need to have people buy from us. Uh-oh. How do we find our way out of this chicken-egg cycle of proof? With one key question. Listen on to hear the question you need to find the proof you ALREADY HAVE.

Success BEGINS as an inside job. On this episode of Teachers in Business, I'm sharing the last of THREE steps to creating success from the inside out. Part 3 is about everyone's least favorite thing - failure. Today I'm making the case for EMBRACING failure rather than avoiding it. Yes, you logically know already that this is a good idea, but what you don't realize is that it's already HAPPENING in your world. You're doing a better job of this than realize, and KNOWING this will help you to embrace failure with even more enthusiasm. Ultimately, our failures are the building blocks of our success, and reframing failure in this way might help you to be more okay with falling on your face (because it's going to happen either way...)

Success BEGINS as an inside job. On this episode of Teachers in Business, I'm sharing the second of THREE steps to creating success from the inside out. Part 2 is about what to do when you are STUCK. Based on my work with clients, and my own experiences, I see the same four common reasons that we get stuck over and over and over. Getting - and staying - stuck in the same spot over and over and over is a huge barrier to success. It's why people give up, quit, close businesses. Today I'm going to share the simple process (that you already have) for getting UNstuck, and the four most common reasons WHY we get stuck - because knowing WHY you are stuck is the key to getting UNstuck. Once again, the best part about what we're talking about today is that you don't have to learn anything new - you just have to think differently about what you're already doing!

When I mention 'evaluation' people cringe.

The word comes with SO much baggage - evaluation feels like a lot of work, like something we SHOULD do, and like something that will NOT be fun.

As teachers, we KNOW the power of evaluation, but in business it feels different, harder, and new.

So we avoid it...and as a result we miss out on using the MOST powerful tool you have in your business.

The thing of it is this: just like in teaching, evaluating does NOT have to be a lot of work, take a lot of time, feel like a root canal, or create misery.

The point of evaluation is NOT to beat yourself up - it's to take a snapshot of what's working, what's not, and decide what to do next.

So this week on TIB, I'm going to share a simple approach to using evaluation in your business, FOR you business, that will feel WAY less heavy, and will help you harness the power of evaluation, starting NOW.

Yes, it will work.

No, it's not going to hurt :)

If you are a teacher, or you are plugged into the education world in any way, you know there is a BIG conversation going on right now about TRANSITIONING out of teaching.

From a struggling former-teacher-turned-entrepreneur, to a business coach who makes more than DOUBLE what she did when she was teaching, I want to share the four simple steps to building a business that makes money AND gives you the truly flexible schedule you've always dreamed of that I've used, and that I teach my clients.
The four steps are:

--effectively connect with & sign new clients,

-- pricing  & selling without EVER feeling salesy, spammy, or slimy,

-- building your business to full-capacity AND own your time once and for all.

This step by step guide is built especially for former-teachers-turned-entrepreneurs, but it will work for ANYONE who wants structure/process and works better when there’s a plan.

Rest assured there will be no fancy-MBA terms here - no SWOT analyses, no formal business plans, no executive summaries - instead, you'll learn about running a successful business AS a teacher.

This episode is all about a simple, straight forward plan - just like a teachers' guide - that you can point to and say ‘this is what I need to do today, this is what I need to do tomorrow’ so you can go make money AND enjoy your time starting NOW.

The main reason that people hire me as a business coach is because their business isn’t making the money they want. Period.

As a coach, I know this struggle well - I sell a service (and I also have a second business where I sell a product, so I’ve done both).

Here’s how it goes: A new client recently captured it PERFECTLY. She said ‘Sara, I KNOW what I have is worth while, but the people aren’t coming. People tell me it’s a great idea, that people really need what I’m doing, that I’m amazing - and yet no one pays me. People are happy to take what I create for free and use it, but no one is actually BUYING.

Sound familiar?

Today we’re going to tackle this… what I’ve learned as a coach is that when people aren’t buying there are only really a handful of reasons, and they’re easy to take action to address.

I’m going to lay out the three most common reasons I see with my clients that people aren’t buying from them, and then we’re going to talk about the change you can make right now for each one.

One of the MOST common issues teachers in the business world face is that we PLANNERS.

It's laying out all the details and the steps and the flows - it's AMAZING.

But in so many cases this is OVER planning rather than planning - and there is a BIG difference. OVER planning is planning for perfect.

They are what sets you apart from the rest. One of the MOST vital skills in a teacher's tool kit is asking great questions - and this skill translates SO well into business because asking great questions creates CONNECTION (and when people are connected to you they buy!).

One of the most common causes of my clients getting stuck is being in COMPARISON mode.

We have all heard about ‘compare and despair’ and it really is a thing. Its something we have all met at some point in our work - and it really can (and does) paralyze people and impede forward progress.

For me, there are two flavors of comparison mode that paralyze people.

Today we’re going to talk about the two flavors - how to notice if they are happening to you, and how to move OUT of this spot, and get unstuck, especially when this mode has become your normal.

Between my two businesses I have made ALL the mistakes.

And while I'm a big fan of making mistakes in order to learn and grow, I know that there are (at LEAST) a handful of mistakes I've made that didn’t need to take ALL the time and energy that I gave to them.

Today I'm sharing 3 specific mistakes I've made in my businesses - and that clients have come to me making - over the years that took LOADS of time and energy to untangle, that you just plain don't need to make yourself.

We’ve been taught to think that making decisions is hard, or that it has to be hard. But actually, most of what’s hard about making decisions is INDECISION. Success isn't created by what you DO. It's created by how you THINK. I know it sounds nutty but you can change your ACTIONS and what you do in your business 1000 times - you can try every course, every coach, every program - and still never reach your goals because you haven't changed your THINKING.

Changing your thoughts about your business, your people, your value, and yourself IS the difference maker.

This week I'm going to teach you the 4 stages of thoughts and how to RADICALLY change your business and create more success than you've allowed yourself to dream of by changing how you THINK rather than what you're doing.

Growing is NEVER instant. And yet we often have expectations of ourselves that are for exactly that. We expect to be perfect, to be expert, to be able to figure out all the things immediately, rather than incrementally. This week I’m making the case for embracing the idea of ‘incremental expansion’ in your business. Embracing this idea will save you hours upon hours of time, and help you do EVERYTHING in business more easily, right now.

One of the superpowers of ALL teachers is problem-solving. In a teaching setting, we solve a million problems a day, as they come up, from one moment to the next.

We do exactly what we need to figure out what’s happening and how to move forward, and we use the tools and resources at our disposal in the system we work in as supports.

In the business world - especially if you own your own - things feel a little different. There are fewer supports. There aren’t as many resources. But...we still have the same STELLAR problem solving skills.

So how do we transfer them to business effectively?

In a classroom the responsibility of a teacher is to get everyone on board - no matter how much or how little the faces in the room want to ‘buy’ the information for sale. As a result, you have to talk to EVERYONE. You have to connect to everyone.

In business, things are different. You aren’t responsible for getting everyone on board or for talking to everyone. You only have to talk to your yeses - the people who are bought into what you do.

But doing this well? It can be a sneaky challenge…

This week we’re talking about how to know WHO you’re talking to and simple strategies for focusing your time, energy, and attention on the people who want exactly what you have to sell!

Teachers LOVE to learn. We like to read, to research, to figure out, to discover, to hunt down resources...and it’s a GREAT asset to us in the education world. It’s the ability to think ‘hmmm, I wonder how other people have done that’ and then go out and find something to help us do what we need to do.  When teachers move into the business world, we take our learning brains with us. And this learning-centered way is a huge blessing, but it also has a BIG downside because it creates a LOT of noise (all the different options, SO many ‘right ways’, all the voices…) eeek.  This week on the podcast we’re going to talk about our learning-centered teacher brains and strategies for effectively navigating the deafening noise in the business world.

When I left the teaching world and started a business I had alllll kinds of guilt. Guilt that I’d left my calling - my forever job. Guilt that I had changed my plans. Guilt that I wanted to do something else. Guilt that I was making more money than I had made as a teacher (and even more guilt because I wanted to make even more…). On this episode we’re going to talk about all the flavors of guilt that come with the move from education to business, what the heck to do with them (instead of letting them beat you down...), and why the work of handling all the guilt REALLY matters.
