In this episode, we sit down with Libby Ward to talk about her raw, relatable, and unexpectedly funny memoir, Honest Motherhood: On Losing My Mind and Finding Myself.
Libby shares what it really looked like to break under the pressure of trying to do it all... and the powerful rebuild that followed. We dive into the unrealistic expectations placed on modern moms, the identity loss that so often goes unspoken, and the moment everything had to change.
This conversation is both a wake-up call and a permission slip: to let go of perfection, to choose yourself without guilt, and to redefine what it means to be a “good” mother. Because at the end of the day, what our kids need most isn’t perfection - it’s a mom who is present, supported, and whole.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, stretched too thin, or like you’ve lost a piece of yourself in motherhood, this episode is for you.

Winter brings extra layers... and extra worries — especially when you have a baby. In this episode of Sleep Cues, we’re joined by an ER perspective to talk about what actually matters when it comes to winter safety. Dr. Darria is a Harvard and Yale-trained, board-certified ER physician, our go-to for baby and family safety on social media, and mom of 3.
From the most common cold-weather mistakes parents don’t expect, to overheating risks during sleep, to why bulky snowsuits and car seats don’t mix... we’re breaking down what’s fact, what’s myth, and what you can confidently ignore. We also cover special considerations for newborns and preemies, extreme cold, illness, and how to handle well-meaning (but outdated) advice from grandparents.

There are a few of main things we focus on with families when they come to us for 1-on-1 support with sleep coaching. They are the things that set up a great foundation for amazing sleep for your infant, toddler and even pre-schooler... these things are scheduling, sleep coaching strategies and ROUTINES.
Today we are specifically focusing on the bedtime routine. What a great bedtime routine can look like, and why each element of a bedtime routine is so important to overall healthy rest. You can have great scheduling and sleep strategies, but if you don't have a consistent routine it will be much harder to get your child to go down for sleep and get the rest they need!

Related to naps, the concept of “crib hour” is this: if baby wakes up at any point under an hour from when they were put down, you leave them be until a full hour has passed since they initially went to sleep.
This is a popular option among some for lengthening a baby’s short naps… But, here’s why I don’t subscribe to crib hour.

A tough topic but an important one today — Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), which includes Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), is the leading cause of mortality in infancy. We always want to help families understand the ways they can reduce the risks of SIDS, we also work with families who are using products that are often marketed towards the idea of reducing SIDS but are actually causing a lot of anxiety for parents. Sleep is a really big challenge for a lot of families with young babies but following safe sleep recommendations can prevent many SIDS fatalities.

— 6 month old always wakes after half an hour then needs multiple soothings from me before finally settling. How can I get her napping longer?

This week we have a replay of our interview with Jenny Best — the founder of Solid Starts. Jenny is a baby-led weaning expert and food and farming enthusiast on a mission to make it easier for parents to introduce real food to their babies. Solid Starts was born out of necessity.
Solid Starts advocates for an approach that they named #FingerFoodFirst. Based on a method called “baby-led weaning,” FingerFoodFirst involves letting go. Letting go of the impulse to control every spoonful and letting go of the expectation that you should make one meal for your baby and another for everyone else.
In this episode Jenny explains the long and short game of child feeding, breaks down baby led weaning, her advice on introducing new foods with children of different ages and how to know if your baby is getting enough food AND MORE...

—My baby is 4 months and often sleeps through the night, but my doctor says she’s not quite on her curve and I need to feed her once overnight. Would this be a case for a dream feed? How does that work?
— My 8 month old goes down on his own for naps and bedtime and sleeps through the night with one feed around 4am. But his naps are always short. Any ideas about why?
— My 14 month old is doing well on 2 naps per day, but he’s starting daycare in a couple weeks and they want him on one nap. Any suggestions about how to manage this?
— Looking for some help with managing my 2.5 year old’s schedule. Her nap is from 12-2pm, and bedtime is 7:15/7:30pm. Lately she’s taking a very long time to fall asleep for her nap, and then also not falling asleep for bedtime until close to 9pm. Is it time to drop her nap already?
— My 4 year old has started getting up around 5 or 5:30am and playing quietly in her room until the sun comes up on her Wake Up Clock at 6am. Do you have suggestions about this?

Today we are talking about toddlers - specifically toddler aggression, and even more specific to toddler hitting. We work with many families with toddlers and pre-schoolers to manage sleep challenges at those ages. Which also means we are dealing with families who are in the thick of toddler sleep regressions and behaviors that are new to both the child and parents - and hitting is often at the center of this.
We heard Dr. Cara Goodwin on an episode of The Mom Room podcast with host Renee Reina - which brought up so many additional questions about toddler behaviour regressions and hitting, as so many of my clients are managing these difficult situations. So I am beyond thrilled to have Dr. Cara Goodwin, on today's episode - she is a mother of 3, licensed child psychologist, PhD and author - listen in to hear her expert opinion on this topic!

When is something a sleep "prop" and when is it a sleep "tool"? When is something helpful to your baby's sleep, and when is it a hindrance?
One of the most common questions we get is what we're talking about when we refer to "sleep props" or "sleep crutches" and specifically why we call certain things sleep crutches (like rocking to sleep and pacifiers) and not others (like white noise and blackout blinds). So, today's episode focuses on just that, sleep props vs. sleep tools.
In this episode...
- The difference between sleep props and sleep tools
- What is helpful to baby's sleep
- Things that seem helpful but actually hinder baby's sleep
- Examples of each
- What to do when something isn't working for you and your family

Joining Sleep Cues today is Jenny Best, the founder of Solid Starts.

When it comes to a child’s room environment, dark is best... and yes this goes for adults too! Based on how our circadian rhythms work, our brains understand that it’s time for sleeping when the environment is dark.
There is certainly an argument that babies should sleep in the light so they “learn” to sleep well anywhere. My counter-argument to that is this: If we, as humans, “learned” to sleep well under bright lights, none of us would have curtains in our bedrooms as adults. We wouldn’t need them! But we do need them – because humans all (babies and adults alike!) sleep better in the dark. Listen in to this episode for more information on babies sleep environment, and why dark is best!
In this episode we've partnered with Nanobébé - a company dedicated to creating amazing products that will guide you through your baby’s feeding journey. One of the most common challenges parents face is The Four Month Sleep Regression.
Babies and toddlers may go through various sleep regressions, which are generally thought to occur around months 4, 8, 12, 18, and 24. I emphasize “may” and “various” because some babies might never see a sleep regression, while others may have a difficult transition through one stage but then not experience even a small blip in their sleep habits at the next common “regression” month.
There is, however, one big exception to all of the above. The exception is the four-month sleep regression.

Swaddling can be very helpful for newborns to help calm their Moro reflex (often referred to as the “startle reflex” - you know, the one that causes your baby to hit himself in the face and wake up very annoyed? Yeah, that one.)

In this episode we talk about...
