HAPPY BRAT DAY TO ALL THOSE WHO CELEBRATE! Von Dutch + Club Classics are absolutely on repeat, 360 is the daily prayer-- I finally have succumbed to the world of CharliXCX and wow this album has very much sold me-- Charli occupies a unique space in the pop landscape where she has larger, mainstream leverage while still maintaining her native sense of experimentation.
While some may feel left out of the music, I think her strength lies in creating music for a very specific audience, using her well-earned respect to bring up unseen voices along the way.
0:00 - Brat is finally here
1:12 - Does exclusivity have to be a bad thing?
2:10 - Charli's unique position in pop

9:08 - Charli and the art of curation
11:11 - Make the pedestal personal
13:15 - Exclusive vs. exclusionary

Airbnb Icons just dropped and I am fascinated! Between Shrek's Swamp, the Barbie Mansion, the UP House, and Doja Cat there is a surprising array of experiences. While I don't take issue with most of these experiences, I think it's a great vehicle to discuss housing as entertainment, almost like the Mr.Beastification of a territory that should ideally be a human right. Same goes for the likes of AD tours, Selling Sunset, etc., which I admittedly very much enjoy! The corporatization of housing is nothing new, but it has drastically increased over the past two decades and so many are feeling the heat. Caroline Polachek's deluxe edition of "Desire, I Want to Turn Into You: Everasking Edition" is blowing my mind but we should not be surprised considering she's been working for this for nearly 2 decades! Between the ages of Chairlift, Ramona Lisa, CEP and producing for the likes of Beyonce + Shygirl, collaborating with Grimes, Charli XCX and so many other artists, Caroline Polachek is a story of hope, creative persistence, and the value that comes with keeping your expression true to you ❤️correction I realize Ramona Lisa was concurrent with Chairlift, not after the fact0:00 - THE indie darling0:43 - Desire, I want to turn into you1:45 - Expanding art rather than isolating it2:20 - Chairlift, Ramona Lisa, and CEP5:00 - Embarking on a solo career 6:42 - Classic opera moment 7:00 - Caroline the producer 8:15 - Longevity in art 9:00 - Caroline the curator10:30 - Innovating and resisting influence 11:40 - The beauty of creative constraints ____Hi! Getting a job right now is pretty difficult despite what's shown by the market. Between needing 5+ years of experience for an entry level role, the perfect corporate social media profile on LinkedIn, and applicant tracking systems, it's important to remember that you aren't alone in the chaos. Would love to hear your thoughts on this! ____Hi! My name is Kate and I'm an artist and musician. Your bestie is coquette, I dream of the soft life, your neighbor bought a Stanley cup to replace the Hydroflask. How we present ourselves and determine personal style (if you can even call it that) has become ever expansive to include more items and aspects of everyday life. Though it is not fair by any means, how you dress does matter, at least to the outside world - but we can make the conscious choice to prioritize cultivating our own perspective regardless of whether or not that aligns with our immediate environment, type beat. I'd love to hear about what style and fashion means to you, and the thought process (or lack thereof, I think both are equally valid) behind how you represent yourself visually.

social media is officially a public health crisis (but we knew) ! I've been feeling a lot of content fatigue lately and wanted to explore what might be at the end of this endless, overwhelming technicolor road. I've been hearing a lot about main character syndrome, main character energy, the what about me effect, pick me, etc. which I do think can bring about a lot of positive change for people. Though sometimes going so into ourselves we can lose site of all the joy there is in investing in others and also not putting so much pressure on ourselves to have an exceptional existence. Also I adore Esther Perel.

Guts by miss Olivia Rodrigo, I kid you not, has dominated my on repeat ever since it came out. I've been trying to figure out precisely WHY Guts and Sour seem to hit so hard and I've landed on that they hold the pain, joy, energy, and outrage that comes with the girlhood / young adult experience and wow! Listen if there is anything I love to blame the end of the world on, it is social media. Do numbers actually matter? Why are we constantly putting ourselves into states of hyper vigilance? From fashion, film, visual art, to music, the starving artist is very much a thing. Santigold, Elena Velez etc. are, actual superstars struggling to make ends meet and they aren't alone-- they're just brave enough to talk about it. I don't think most artists go into the profession expecting to strike riches, but it's quite surprising just how difficult it is just to make minimum wage in some of the disciplines we hold so dear. Fame does not equal funded.I'm excited that it seems across the board we're having a bit of a reckoning with labor conditions/pay transparency, so definitely hopeful for an eventual actual creative middle class? We shall see. In any case, it's important to remember to separate your art's worth and your self-worth from the numbers behind it. Would love to hear your thoughts/any personal anecdotes you have! We love miss Lorde. So ready for Silver Moon still WAITING for precious metals. Hey I'm making a podcast!
Also, per my discussion with myself lol I think it's important to clarify that I think you should always be transparent as an artist in terms of your background and privileges that got you to where you are today. That being said, I think there's a huge disconnect between listeners and artists regarding how music gets popular.
I do believe that good music will sell itself to some degree, BUT-- If you want to make it to a certain level, there's very few ways that you can do so without some outside assistance, marketing etc. It's odd that we blame artists and not the industry for cherry picking who and who shouldn't have a platform.
I don't even really have a strong position either way on industry plants, but I do think it's interesting how they seemed to get "exposed" more often today.
(it's also just an edgy thing to call my podcast)
Anyhow,
I hope you enjoy my conversation with all of these incredibly skilled individuals. Let's figure out how we can all become industry babies <3
