I believe in starting out early. This podcast is for the 10 graders. in order to get ahead you ,must start out early.Today we will discuss finding the right college for you.First there are 6 steps you need to look at when deciding on which school you would like to attend.1. Distance- Do you want to be down the street or across the country, from family and friends?But remember if you want to go across the country, make sure that getting back and fourth is doable.( like holidays and school breaks.2. Size- Do you want to go to a big University or a small college or a Junior College.3. Location- Would you like to go to school in a big city where it may cold or a small town where it may be warm or hot even. Big decision.4. Major- Your major make a big difference. Some schools specialize in what you are wanting to study. But don’t worry if you don’t have one yet. it is OK. You will in due time.5. Housing- Would you like to stay in a dorm or an Apartment. Staying in a dorm you will maybe share a room with a stranger, your first year. But that is ok, because you get to meet a new person, that may end up being your best friend. An Apartment on the other hand, you may be able to pick who you want live with. Could be some of your friends from High School if you all are talking about going to the same college.6. Last and certainly not least The students- Do you want to go to a coed campus or a non coed campus. Coed Campus is a Male and Female Campus. So a non coed campus of course is a all Female school or a all male school. For some of you going to a non-coed campus, going to a coed campus may be for you since you went the other route in highSchool. This is a big deal.Also think about whether you want to go to a HBCU/Ivy League Schools.HBCU are Historically Black Colleges and UniversitiesIvy League are a group of Elite Colleges with connotations of Academic Excellence.So now lets Recap what we talk about today.Teaser: Next week we will talk about Listing out your colleges.*TFTD Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.To contact me: info@nextchaptereducationalfoundation.org
Hello and welcome to the College Prep 2.0 for the High School student. (10 graders)
Today we will discuss the dreaded PSAT. Which stands for Preliminary Scholastic Apititude Test Or , Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test. The reasoning behind this test is so it can open doors to scholarships and boost confidence for the SAT. Depending on what area or school you are at. The PSAT can and should start with sophmores to get your feet wet with the test and than take again as a senior.
But remember the first test does not count the second one will.
Now remember I said to get your feet wet, it also puts your name on a list, if you test scores are high enough, you will receive information from various schools and they will then turn around and send you out letters from those schools of which your major may cover. You can also get letters from schools that you have not even heard of and the college or university may suit you just fine. (it may fit into those 6 steps)
For your PSAT try to do as best as you can ,remember this is just a trial run to get your feet wet and to see where your strengths and weakness lie. Don’t fret if your score is not up their.
You will get a scond chance at it.
Get with your guidance counselor on how to best study for the test, or maybe there may be a group at your school that might do just that.

Listing out our Colleges
Make a list of the schools that interest you. It may 50 or even 100 schools, you will need to research the schools to see if they meet the requirements of the six steps in picking out a college. Check out epispde 1. Then continue the list of colleges.
Now as you go through your reseach, that list will get smaller and smaller Go to collegeboard.org create a user nmae and password. This site helps you look up colleges, it also puts you on tract with the up and coming PSAT/SAT dates and deadlines. Another good thing it will do it will help you with ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS . When you look up colleges it will also tell you when they have the COLLEGE FAIRS/ and COLLEGE NIGHT. College Night are events that the College will invite you out to if they are local, to tell you even more about the colleges. But they may not have gone back to physical appearances and may still do it virtually on zoom. The virtual experience may not be as good or even fun as the physical one, but you will get some information that might be helpful for you.
- REMEMBER the number of colleges you pick will go up and down depending on your requirements. So you have to get that list researched as quickly as you can.
