Father Jim, rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Pearland (better known as the Pumpkin Church) has retired from parish ministry.
But anyone and everyone who knows him knows he ain't retiring from Kin(g)dom work.
I was out of town during his last full week and missed the opportunity to give him a card that the associate pastor was collecting.

I learned a valuable lesson about faith and forgiveness from my son.
The lesson reminded me of the invitation to have child-like faith (and not a child ish) faith,
My brother (Daniel) and his wife (Christine) join me as we talk about their faith journey -- particularly involving a church they were part of for almost a decade.
That church experienced an "accident" that led them towards a path of deconstructing and reconstructing their faith.
This is the last episode of 2021.

We'll discuss his calling into ministry, our experience with the ordination process in the United Methodist Church, and parenthood.
Rev. Rob is the pastor of Watkins United Methodist Church in Louisville, KY.
Note:
In the UMC, you need to become a CERTIFIED CANDIDATE before being eligible for ordination.
After being a certified candidate, you take your first round of exams and if you pass that, you become ordained as a PROVISIONAL ELDER. You're basically on provision and most conferences, you have to wait 2 years before applying for the next (and final step).
You take another round of exams (both written and then oral) and if you pass those, you become ordained as an ELDER.
You're basically a made person and you're guaranteed an appointment (think of it as having tenure at a university).
