When I first decided to become a full-time teacher, I didn't see much representation online of teachers sharing advice for newbies, so I decided to speak on this topic this week. Here I speak about how to connect, respect and stay excited in this career.

Special thanks to every educator who has dedicated their life and time to their students. You are so important and you MATTER! This is such a rewarding career and it takes an amazing person like YOU to get the job done.

If you enjoyed this video, let me know by subscribing and leaving a nice comment! Also, if know someone who is new to teaching and may need some quick advice, send this video to them!

Remember, Galatians 6:9 says" Let us not become weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not." Don't give up on the good work you are doing, you will see the growth in yourself and your students! I wish you the best of luck + love.

Thanks for watching and as always, be blessed :)

Welcome to Episode 20 of "Black Girl from Brick City" :)

In this episode, I talk about my encounter with God and how I gave my life back to Christ after running away from my anointing for almost 10 years.

Starting your walk with Christ can be scary and is not always easy, but it's definitely the most rewarding experience you will ever have.

Yes, you may be scared to get closer to God for many reasons.

Maybe you feel you don't deserve his grace over your life or maybe you're like me and don't want your deepest secrets to be revealed through testimony or revelation.

But, no matter what the reason is, God loves you and he's always waiting for your YES.

The quicker you say yes and yield to his will over your life, the more blessings you will be able to receive.

I hope this video resonates with you and if you're watching this, I'm praying for you! xoxo

Welcome Back to Black Girl From Brick City! EP 14

Are Black Women being oversexualized in the media?

I know I might get tussled for this episode, but this topic is important.

Lately, I've seen many artists be sexualized to the point of distraction.

The talented Shenseea recently did an amazing video that visually was appealing, but the song was subpar.

In this episode, I share my thoughts on this and how it makes me feel.

Also, here at Black Girl From Brick City, we respect women from all walks of life.

This is just an unpopular opinion of mine & someone needed to say it.. respectfully.  . .  thank you for listening #aycegang

What is emotional intelligence?

I learned about this term in college, shout out to Professor Sandra Bodin-Lerner

Emotional Intelligence is made up of 4 components:

  • Self Awareness: slow down, journaling, etc
  • Self Management: staying in control/clear idea of the lines you’ll never cross
  • Relationship Management: able to manage multiple relationships in healthy ways
  • Social Awareness: able to put yourself in other people’s shoes

Accountability can be uncomfortable because it forces you to look at what you did wrong instead of someone else!

Yes, it can be hard, but when you get accustomed to taking ownership of your actions, life will go smoother

When you learn to hold yourself accountable, you:

  • Handle situations more maturely
  • Feel better about past mistakes
  • Less drama and more safe spaces
  • More aware of how your bad behaviors make others feel  T

  • Don't be afraid to invest in yourself (workout gear, better food, etc)
  • Don't compare or body shame
  • Join an accountability group or get a workout partner

Definitions:

Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental health disorder in which you can't stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws in your appearance — a flaw that appears minor or can't be seen by others. But you may feel so embarrassed, ashamed, and anxious that you may avoid many social situations

I was completely disturbed when I logged into Instagram and saw images and videos of Border Patrol Agents on horsebacks, whipping and chasing Haitian Refugees into the Rio Grande River in Del Rio, Texas.

Instead of being met with aid and assistance, they were met with aggression and hate.

In this episode, I talk about the disturbing history of America and how Haitians deserve more respect! #1804

It seems America only helps when it benefits them. Afghanistan Refugees were approved to come to America to seek asylum, yet Haitians families were deported by the thousands on back-to-back flights with no care in the world for their safety or well-being.

Also - when it comes to people of color in this country, it seems we are always met with violence first, questions later.

Quite frankly, the entire history of White Supremacy in America has always been violent, especially towards people of color.

I am angry. I am disappointed in the Biden Administration & enough is enough.

Prayers up for all the refugees seeking a better life for their families, it could've been me.

One thing about breakups, they ain’t easy ok?

  • Everyone knows ya together, so you feel like you owe people explanations as to why the relationship didn’t work
  • You have to disconnect yourself from a person you once shared so much with
  • You feel like you wasted so much time, was all of that work really for nothing?
  • You still feel like there is something you can do to make the relationship work, despite all of the red flags

But I’ve learned a few things from my breakups..

  • Grieve.
  • It’s not the end of the world, look at it as a new beginning
  • Choose forgiveness, not bitterness
  • Remember your WHY.

Things I learned NOT to do after a breakup..

  1. Don’t just hop into another serious relationship
  2. Don’t vent to social media
  3. Don’t bad mouth your ex to people

Focus on these things after a breakup..

  1. You.
  2. Your business.
  3. New experiences

Two beautiful quotes by Maya Angelou:

You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.

Have enough courage to trust love one more time and always one more time

Thank you for listening! I appreciate it. Let's learn & grow together #aycegang xoxoxo

Will covid change the course of networking and social life forever? Who knows!

Here are some things I've implemented into my life to help with my anxiety:

  • Reading self-help books on how to manage stress and emotions
  • Developed stronger prayer life
  • Planning on going to therapy

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What makes me feel really calm?
  • What makes me feel good about myself and confident about my decisions?
  • What makes me feel truly happy?

Scriptures to help combat my anxiety attacks:

  • Tehillim (Psalms) 55:22 TS2009 “Cast your burden on יהוה, And let Him sustain you; He never allows the righteous to be shaken.”
  • Romans 15:13 KJV "Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
  • Romiyim (Romans) 8:6 TS2009 "For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.” Psalm 16:8 KJV "I have set the LORD always before me: Because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.”

So let's face it, my fellow artist, most people only see the end of a creative goal or project and never realize the emotional toll it takes on an artist to even share their gifts.   I'm grateful for all the blessings my gift has granted me, as I'm sure every creative is.

Yet, in the past, I did struggle with a few things that made it harder to focus just the creative aspect of things:

  • Financial issues
  • Creative blockages/ Lack of inspo
  • Real-life vs social media/ Imposter syndrome
  • Negative comments / Haters
  • Comparing yourself to others

Although this episode talks about the struggle, s/o to my creative baddies using life as fuel for your passion! Keep grinding & never stop!
