Hey I thought this sounds like a fascinating topic for a podcast episode! Crass definitely had a significant influence on the punk and hardcore scenes, but their impact on extreme metal is not as widely discussed. Exploring the connections between Crass's anarchistic philosophy and the themes found in extreme metal could lead to some interesting insights. Their DIY ethos and uncompromising attitude could resonate with many fans of extreme metal. Overall, I think delving into the history of Crass and their influence on different genres of music would make for a compelling podcast episode and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did recording it.

Sid Vicious has since his death been vilified and mocked for his tuneless bass playing, this is a sad outcome for a young man with little prospects by the handed to him by the accident of his birth. The spirit of rock n roll flowed through him and burnt so bright that he was consumed by it. This weeks episode i try and right the wrong that is long over due.

Riot City maybe a band you have never heard but SHOULD as they are one of the most exhilarating Speed Metal bands on the planet right now. And their second album Electric Elite is a mighty slice of crazy speed fueled metal madness. And Live they are an act that will be very hard to follow for some time to come.

This episode has a really nice little treat instead of the usual Ad beak this time i have a new track from https://www.kronowski.com/ who where brought to my attention by Davide Pulito at www.themetalistpr.com so pop over if your interested in some top notch PR for your growing band or even the established acts who want a bigger push

All of us at one time or another has heard this classic album but this 2020 reissue that celebrates its 50th birthday and in amongst all sort of amazing goodies you get this contentious Quadraphonic mix that came out 4 years after its release in 1976. Yes its a strange concept quad sound folded back to stereo but trust me some Audiophiles will wince at this but its all you would expect and SO much more. Take a read of my full review for https://metal-roos.com.au/ on the link below it may just help you understand where i'm coming from.

Episode 150 would you believe it! this milestone is celebrated with a look at one of my biggest influences and a singer and band that without doubt changed the face of heavy rock forever. Far reaching influences across the globe that for a very short time back in the very dawn of the 70’s shook the foundations of the grey and the boring that ruled the music industry. The Sensational Alex Harvey Band is a name that should be on all our lips. Let’s make it so starting here.

Back in the late 1970's and early 1980"s the musical landscape was a fluid and unpredictable place. In this was born Punk , New Wave, Heavy Metal and much much more, one band straddled the genres and helped create one completely on its own. The Skids are that band this weeks chat is about the classic album that not many remember but should be up there with anything XTC, The Stranglers, PIL could and did put out at that time.

So lets see if I get it right it was a tough one and on occasion the lyric analysis was live.

In 1981 the world was a different place, a place where anything went and punk had charged the worlds youth with the anyone can do it attitude. So three talented young men from the north of England smashed the burgeoning NWOBHM scene apart by creating a whole new genre. This is their call to arms and it’s raw, angry, fast and addictive.

Well where would we be without art and in rock its a post 50's teenage boom that brought the medium of music clashing with the art of packaging, Then smashing head first into the nihilism of Punk in the late 70's. Followed by the plastic modernism of the cold war world. Synths ablaze and fluro splashes abound. This week i take a little trip through album art without the aid of notes. Here we are almost at the end of Aprils woman in rock month its been a topsy turvy month the interview i had planned for this month as the flag ship part of the series has unfortunately been moved to May for very, very good reasons which i am sworn to keep under my hat. This weeks episode was to end the month and i may during the show allude to both outcomes.Thats me all over guys you what you get with me by now hahahaha. Anyway its a two sided program this week Woman singers in extreme metal and the strange and confusing lack of woman artists designing metal covers. 9 well i could not find them anyway, if any of you have any suggestions jump over to https://www.facebook.com/HeavyMetalTones and have a chat with me about it. Also there you will find for one week only my Spotify play list that links with the show this changes every week so don't hang around

Enjoy my friends

April's woman in rock part 2 is all about production and the role that woman play in it, its a sad indictment of the industry that so few are major players in the music we all consume. One of them is the key figure in this weeks show so you will need to wait till part two to hear all about her amazing exploits in the world of music.

https://www.facebook.com/HeavyMetalTones pop over and have a chat about this or any subject really i just love talking to like minded music nerds and fellow metal heads about music in all its glory also do not forget to leave a review please on what ever platform you get your podcast from.

Tank one of the most underrated NWOBHM bands on the planet. Musically such a diverse band and this their second album hard to find Power Of The Hunter is a classic. It has it all heavy Punk fuelled blues inspired rock with just a hint of Glam.

Lyrics that when i read through them were just on the odd side of bad taste but that’s what made NWOBHM what it is.

Here is the album as you can’t get it easy and it’s not on streaming platforms

Hold in there i do get to the album stuff in the second half but the firat part is important as it sets it all up...

Most bands have issues with their 2nd or 3rd album, not many were trapped in a situation where they were expected to keep the momentum of a genre that was running out of valid steam. But against the flow they made a double album that only paid homage to the past and present but a huge shout out to what was to come. The Clash are that band and London Calling is that album.

Ok Guys again this weeks Episode is one from the archives an interview i did for metal roos with my hero Tony Martin.

The Audio on Tony’s side is as expected bloody sharp. Mine i was using skype and through my end it sounded amazing. But when i rendered it well let’s say sounds like i’m in talking under water. So please forgive this and just enjoy what Tony had to say.

This is the first of two interviews i did for Metal Roos the only online metal mag you need. I have had issues with my Audio as i use Skype the sound through my headphones sounded amazing. But when i listen back Tony Dolan the master of extreme metal and all round good guy, sounded amazing but i sounded like i was in another room. I think it is because Skype used my headphone mic and not the good laptop one. Any way you don’t need me you just need to listen to Tony Dolan and man he has so much to say. It was a reall thrill.

Enjoy

Heavy Metal always had a blues swagger to it a sense of swing and easily accessible chord structures, That with little practice you could build the heaviest music in the world.

But that swagger, that drive and access point seems to have got lost. More and more we are bombarded by cold impenetrable monolithic chords and million note solo's.

This is not a bad thing ( i love all this stuff) but i also long for the soul of the blues that drives all the classics of the past. Lets Bring back the blues in our heavy music.

Across the oceans and in two very different cities a counter culture was bubbling under. One a speed driven surf infused art house vibe that had more in common with Jack Keroauc and beat poetry then they would care to admit. The Other a need to flee the slums and hum drum of a country brought to its knees by a government that broke the promise of a utopian post war dream. From the plastic fantastic of swinging 60’s London to the filth and the fury of generation of dole line denizens. GENERATION X. This weeks episode address all of the above and how 2 different cultures mixed to create the movement that freed music from the tyrannies of the institutionalised record labels and said.

ANYONE CAN DO THIS ALL YOU NEED IS A GUITAR, 3 CHORDS AND ENOUGH BALLS TO GIVE IT A GO. It broke down class barriers, race barriers and gender stereotypes to proclaim COME AND HAVE A GO. It had one badge one banner and that was PUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So guys its the last of the 4 Iron Maiden month album choices from me yours truly, was there something i missed maybe you would have chosen different records. Remember this is not my top 4 by any means this is just a shout out to the albums that are the cornerstone of the Maiden Oeuvre. There will be a 10 min Ep to give you my thoughts on the rest of the catalogue. So put your kettle on pop in a tea bag and come and join this old man and his thoughts on the greatest metal live album of them all.

It’s no secret here on the show if you have been listening from the start. I am a very big fan of Tony Martin Sabbath era Headless cross being for me one of the best later period albums. And my very first gig was on that tour. Lets take a dive into one of Rocks best voices and explore his past and present works

Remember to give me a rating on what ever streaming service you use.

Cheers

From the Ashes of Punk that had warmed the cold and Bleak Newcastle Upon Tyne landscape, comes a monster that was forged in the shadows of the rusty gates of the cemetery that was industry. Unemployment on the cards for most the only way out was Rock and Roll. And from the those ashes rose the Phoenix that is VENOM. And after many years of touring a some of the most seminal albums of the burgeoning NWOBHM movement, it was time for one of the happy band of metal maniacs to move on. In big shoes comes Tony " Demolition man" Dolan with even bigger shoes crushes all before him and with a great producer and the fire rekindled they made one of the most important and musically superior albums of the late 80's in Prime Evil.

find them at venom-inc.co.uk and come and chat with me at heavymetaltones@gmail.com let me know your thoughts on this and many other albums
