Hey I thought this sounds like a fascinating topic for a podcast episode! All of us at one time or another has heard this classic album but this 2020 reissue that celebrates its 50th birthday and in amongst all sort of amazing goodies you get this contentious Quadraphonic mix that came out 4 years after its release in 1976. Yes its a strange concept quad sound folded back to stereo but trust me some Audiophiles will wince at this but its all you would expect and SO much more. Back in the late 1970's and early 1980"s the musical landscape was a fluid and unpredictable place. In this was born Punk , New Wave, Heavy Metal and much much more, one band straddled the genres and helped create one completely on its own. The Skids are that band this weeks chat is about the classic album that not many remember but should be up there with anything XTC, The Stranglers, PIL could and did put out at that time.

Very few musicians are as revered and loved in the world of heavy metal as Lemmy. This week is not going to cover ground that’s not already been covered. It’s just a chat about the man the band and the lyric of a modern masterpiece, that for me is lost in the catalogue. Also hear me get distracted using new tech. There some points there where i wanted to throw it out the window hmmmm.
Well where would we be without art and in rock its a post 50's teenage boom that brought the medium of music clashing with the art of packaging, Then smashing head first into the nihilism of Punk in the late 70's. Followed by the plastic modernism of the cold war world. Synths ablaze and fluro splashes abound. This week i take a little trip through album art without the aid of notes. I thought its been a little while since i jumped in with np safety net.

So guys here’s my take on Marillion second album and possibly my 2nd favourite if i’m honest. This week the first parts the story of lots of drummers which even with notes i got mixed up. How they kept track is beyond me. And then a track by track in part 2. I’m using the 2021 remix for this one.. But i’d encourage to listen to the original mix to get a good understanding of how amazing the remix really is.
Heavy Rock or hard rock what ever you choose to call it is the along wi the blues the core foundation of all the heavy metal we all listen too so here is a potted walk through the genre. Mainly what the difference is between the US and Uk versions of this the most overarching of all the rock genres

Tank one of the most underrated NWOBHM bands on the planet. Musically such a diverse band and this their second album hard to find Power Of The Hunter is a classic. It has it all heavy Punk fuelled blues inspired rock with just a hint of Glam.
Lyrics that when i read through them were just on the odd side of bad taste but that’s what made NWOBHM what it is.

So this month of March sees me turn 50 and with me some classic albums i did find myself rambling more then i usually do this week it may have been the party i have been having this week or it my just be my age or a combination of both. Hold in there i do get to the album stuff in the second half but the firat part is important as it sets it all up...
Most bands have issues with their 2nd or 3rd album, not many were trapped in a situation where they were expected to keep the momentum of a genre that was running out of valid steam. But against the flow they made a double album that only paid homage to the past and present but a huge shout out to what was to come. The Clash are that band and London Calling is that album.

This is the first of two interviews i did for Metal Roos the only online metal mag you need. I have had issues with my Audio as i use Skype the sound through my headphones sounded amazing. But when i listen back Tony Dolan the master of extreme metal and all round good guy, sounded amazing but i sounded like i was in another room. I think it is because Skype used my headphone mic and not the good laptop one. Any way you don’t need me you just need to listen to Tony Dolan and man he has so much to say. It was a reall thrill.

Heavy Metal always had a blues swagger to it a sense of swing and easily accessible chord structures, That with little practice you could build the heaviest music in the world.
But that swagger, that drive and access point seems to have got lost. More and more we are bombarded by cold impenetrable monolithic chords and million note solo's.

80 years ago he worlds most famous woman went missing trying to traverse the globe in her Lockheed Model 10 E and sparking a rescue search unlike anything before or since. But as her husband and the world grieved the name of her co pilot Fred Noonan disappeared into the mist's of time.

Mine has both and if i leave it on it fights with my Amp

Not only are they local guys but with so much experience behind them that every note they hit has a collective age of experience behind it. From the Ashes of Punk that had warmed the cold and Bleak Newcastle Upon Tyne landscape, comes a monster that was forged in the shadows of the rusty gates of the cemetery that was industry. Unemployment on the cards for most the only way out was Rock and Roll. And from the those ashes rose the Phoenix that is VENOM. And after many years of touring a some of the most seminal albums of the burgeoning NWOBHM movement, it was time for one of the happy band of metal maniacs to move on. In big shoes comes Tony " Demolition man" Dolan with even bigger shoes crushes all before him and with a great producer and the fire rekindled they made one of the most important and musically superior albums of the late 80's in Prime Evil.
