DCV LIVE is thrilled to have Verania Vizcarra, President of UC Merced College Democrats, and former intern at the Maddy Institute.
She weighs in on President Biden's State of the Union Address laying out the Democrat's groundwork in the 2024 Elections. She shares with us some of the big hits and misses of the Biden Administration agenda aimed at meeting the demands of Gen-Z voters and voters in general. She also weighs in on the debate of the Democratic Party's lack of messaging between Gen-Z voters and elected officials both at the federal, state, and local level, and offers insight on what they can do better to mobilize Gen-Z voters in the 2024 Election.

We welcome our next guest straight outta South Central and a friend of the show, Ashley Marie Suarez. As a UC Merced Alumni '23, she became the new Policy Advocate at the Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability (LCJA) representing Merced.
She dives further into the current policy issues affecting the City of Merced in 2024, like affordable housing and public safety. She shares with the Gen-Z audience what she has learned while being involved in local politics working with the City Council to meet the priorities of all communities. She explains what drives the disconnect between young voters and local goverment and the City's political arena shaped by the vague stereotype of Merced as a college town.
She leaves us with some tips for Gen-Z folks facing post-grad life.

We are honored to have Dr. Charles Nies (PhD), the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs at UC Merced, on the show. He served in various roles in higher ed such as the Vice Chair of the California Student Aid Commission, appointed by CA Gov. Gavin Newsom.
He looks back at his role in shaping the youngest UC campus in California in its early days, his approach towards bridging campus growth and student leadership for the student body to thrive academically and socially.

Word got around that Charles Nies, the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, is leaving UC Merced to become the 10th Chancellor of the University of Minnesota Duluth. After almost 20 years of service in and out of his office, he managed to translate everything the campus administration says to us without any bloopers. He served as an important piece of the 2020 Campus Expansion and led the way for both the state and federal government to invest more in higher education. Join me and the DCV LIVE fam in remembering the life of Chancellor Munoz's wingman and partner-in-crime.

We are so honored to have Josiah Beharry, the first LGBTQ+ Bobcat Alumni to be nominated as the graduate UC Student Regent for the 2024-2025 term. He graduated in 2022 magna cum laude in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies major and a Writing minor.
He brings the Caribbean flavor into his daily life as a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Humanities. He shares a bit on how his background in student leadership defines his role as a UC Student Regent who will soon vote for addressing contested and controversials issues in higher education.
