DCV LIVE is thrilled to have Verania Vizcarra, President of UC Merced College Democrats, and former intern at the Maddy Institute.

She shares with the Gen-Z audience what she has learned while being involved in local politics working with the City Council to meet the priorities of all communities. Word got around that Charles Nies, the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, is leaving UC Merced to become the 10th Chancellor of the University of Minnesota Duluth. After almost 20 years of service in and out of his office, he managed to translate everything the campus administration says to us without any bloopers. He served as an important piece of the 2020 Campus Expansion and led the way for both the state and federal government to invest more in higher education. We are so honored to have Josiah Beharry, the first LGBTQ+ Bobcat Alumni to be nominated as the graduate UC Student Regent for the 2024-2025 term. He graduated in 2022 magna cum laude in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies major and a Writing minor.
He brings the Caribbean flavor into his daily life as a PhD student in Interdisciplinary Humanities. He shares a bit on how his background in student leadership defines his role as a UC Student Regent who will soon vote for addressing contested and controversials issues in higher education.
