Life can be hard sometimes. We make it harder when we don’t learn from what experiences teach us. Not all the lessons are obvious. Sometimes we need to pause and consider what has occurred from outside the experience. The jewels that appear may surprise us.
Today wraps up the 2023 Nicheless Narrative season. I’m thankful for all of those who have take time to listen each week. I’m planning a series for NaPodPoMo in November and then a December Christmas series before starting the next season of Nicheless Narrative in mid-January 2024.

This week I’m talking about heat, humidity and the dangers that comes with them
As I watch the news about the scorching heat and humidity happening around the world this summer, I feel blessed that so far the summer where I am has been rather moderate. But then, it’s July. August tends to get hotter. So, my turn may be coming.
If you’re experiencing the heat and humidity, please stay safe.

At the root of most of our distractions is FOMO, the fear of missing out. We really don’t want to be the person who isn’t current on ‘key’ information. I use key rather loosely. It’s actually okay to choose to ignore distractions and stay the course. If something is really all that important for me to know, I find the universe has a way of putting it in front of me often enough to get my attention.

This week I’m talking about humility and strength
There is a powerful strength about a person who shares from their heart and doesn’t feel a need to rush into convincing listeners how much they know. It comes from the confidence of not needing to seek others notice or approval.

This week I’m talking about Canada and some things you might now know.
You may have gathered, I’m proud to be a Canadian. Like any other country, it’s not a perfect country and we’ve got some serious issues to deal with. I’m currently watching a TV series called “Little Bird” about what is known as the sixties scoop where First Nations children were removed from their parents and adopted out to mostly white families. It’s horrific to see how this was carried out. Will it stop me from celebrating what is good? No. It doesn’t mean I don’t want to see those wrongs made right and the country to be better for all Canadians.

For a time I got away from reading books regularly. I would read a lot of articles and posts but in time found they just didn’t give me the full view that a good book would. Now I spend time in several books every day.

Age is truly a number. As I’ve aged through different milestones I’ve found I don’t feel any different the day of my reaching that milestone than I did the day before. Our mindset means a whole lot more. I admire my uncle setting his mindset to not dwell on age. He’s proud of the age he’s reached but it isn’t what defines him. It doesn’t define any of us, unless you let it.

This week I’m talking about the strawberry which come into season in June.
Yes, with modern growing methods and transportation I can eat strawberries year round by purchasing imported strawberries in the off season. I’ve never found the strawberries brought from afar as inviting as those I can get locally during that brief season each year. Maybe by waiting for them to be available locally, I appreciate them more.

Managing Information With Obsidian - Ep. 20Notetaking shouldn’t be a nightmare. Once I caught on to using a mix of what I was familiar with and added solutions for what had previously bogged me down, the system became an important part of my daily flow.
Now, notes are the welcome assistant they should be. They don’t hold me hostage to a system I have to figure out how to fit into. I make the system fit my needs.

10 Laws of Life - Ep. 19This week I’m talking about Bertrand Russell’s 10 Laws of Life
As much as we think the world has changed. It’s when we take the time to look back on past thinkers and thought leaders I discover not a lot has changed at the core of human behaviour. Some aspects become more amplified than others but people remain largely the same through the ages at our core.

To Error Is Human, Right? - Ep 6Had I not been willing to admit my mistake to my young friend, I’d be without my projects. I was expecting her to laugh and tease me for having thought of the solution beforehand and still screwing it up. Instead she supplied me with a solution.
As much as we might want to think we can be perfect. We’re only lying to ourselves. It’s in admitting our mistakes and then being open to learning from them and others that we get to grow.

Down the Diary Rabbit Hole - Ep 4As a creative I love the fact I can explore the past to find inspiration to fuel my creativity. I can remember some people in my life making fun of my interest in history as useless knowledge.
There is a reason to preserve the past, it informs our present and future lives.
