Arna was just a humble pearl diver living in a straw hut with her father, Her life turned upside down one day when she discovered an enormous pearl. But it led to more trouble than she imagined and she took up a life of piracy on the tropical seas.
Arna and the Pirates is a saga for children aged 6 and above. There is magic, there is adventure, there is realism. With strong female characters, these stories were written for my own daughter and now I share them with you, too.
Be warned: while most of the endings are happy, it is a mean world the pirates navigate. it isn't always clear who is good or bad - there are betrayals, there is intrigue and people are fed to the King's tigers from time to time.
Pete and Jake discover that Cinnamon Island doesn't remember them as fondly as they imagined.
The Queen and the Pirates meet to see if they can work things out peacefully. Some hope.
Kamaya, the weather priestess, helped them depose the king, won't she do the same for the Queen?
THe problem with old friends is they know who you used to be...Arna and the pirates meet up with Nancy in her palace.

The first ingredient on the list is the 'dying breath of the Tanakata Bird' - that might be harder than it sounds...
Now with the list of ingredients for the cure for Arna's father, the pirates must sail over the Edge of the World to get them..

How old do you have to be to enjoy Arna and the Pirates?
Arna and the Pirates is an epic tale set in the tropical seas. Driven by strong female characters these are stories that combine political intrigue, social comment, toilet humour and a little bit of magic here or there. There are subplots, back stories, action adventures and emotional betrayals. Characters often aren't just good or bad, they're a mix of conflicting feelings, motives and needs.
How old do kids need to be to enjoy Arna and the Pirates?
Well the stories can be dark at times. People die. Someone loses an eye when a hawk snatches it out. People are fed to tigers. These things only happen every now and then and there's plenty of light-hearted fun and emotional exchanges to balance it out.
So it very much depends on the child. I've been telling the stories to my 5 and a half year old daughter and she wakes up each morning talking about the episode from the evening before. I spend about 2 hours a week writing new chapters just to keep up with the never-ending demand from her for more stories.
And now I'm sharing them with you.
