Erin is a digital marketing apprentice working with her mum to create "Neuro Network", which is a networking platform for neurodivergent business owners. She also created her graphics design business, Ethereal Creative Design. Neuro Network consists of small groups of neurodiverse business owners who connect in a safe familiar space where they can be authentic unlike in a more neurotypical business environment.
Erin has always felt different from childhood when she had immense difficulty making friends. She also later noticed she had a very strong reaction to certain sounds like chewing which she discovered was called Misophonia, a condition her mum already had. In addition, she has Misokinesia where repetitive movement is the trigger for the reaction. The reaction can be physically disabling as it impedes the ability to think and may even instigate suicidal thoughts. A very similar occurrence is seen in OCD too.
Sarah hopes to have a workshop with Erin for neurodiverse business owners to network. Interested listeners can fill out the form below.
Sarah has now launched her membership platform "NeuroEnigma", where neurodiverse people can have a supportive community with resources to manage ADHD or dyslexia.

Motunrayo Oyetunji, Founder and CEO of the mental well-being app "Anfaani". Motunrayo describes her passion for supporting black women in thriving in their mental health through different therapeutic techniques
Somatic therapy examines the correlation between physical and mental states. It combines psychotherapeutic and physical techniques for holistic healing. Somatic therapy focuses on the mind-body relationship; hence, the Anfaani app combines physical and psychotherapeutic modalities to improve mental well-being.
The problem of stigma and religious perceptions still constrain many from reaching out for therapy. Motunrayo was intentional about finding a black female therapist, which was eventually beneficial to her. This was a part of the reason for creating an app to cater to the mental health struggles among black women.

Sarah's mum was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia at University. Although she no longer pays much attention to it post-retirement, she has noticed she procrastinates more which she is learning may be part of her neurodiversity.
The stigma of neurodiversity has been present since the younger years of Sarah's mum and is still there now. Although people choose to respond differently to this, Sarah believes it is crucial to see neurodiversity as a disability in order to admit that help is needed.
Notably, not all neurodiversity can be diagnosed by a general practitioner and this makes it cumbersome. Dyslexia often has to be diagnosed by an Educational psychologist, unlike ADHD which can be more easily diagnosed with medications prescribed to manage it. Because of this, a lot of people may be struggling through life because of their neurodiversity, completely unaware of it. This is also the reason why after getting a diagnosis, the tools must be available as quickly as possible, especially at work. Employers should be equipped with knowledge and resources to work with neurodivergent professionals. The lack of these tools greatly impedes the ability to perform. Despite retirement, Sarah's mum still finds resources useful to help accomplish tasks.
The increasing level of awareness of neurodiversity has brought more hope to retirees struggling with it. However, it will come with much effort. There are also a number of good neurodiversity charities available to people. Sarah offers her help too through her group Neuro Enigma which promotes mental well-being among other business resources for neurodiverse professionals. One of these is an upcoming mastermind tagged "How to scale your business and look for funding". Another one coming on the 20th of March is "How to Understand your Dyslexia".

Our guest today, Arije-Aike De Haas, is a YouTuber who is also dyslexic and has reached over 3 million people through his occupational content for dyslexics. He initially wrote about Video Education for Dyslexics during his M.A. but kept going since he got feedback from people who wanted to know more. Today's guest is the author of the book Black and Neurodiverse, Oluseyitan Ojedokun. Her book was partly inspired by some experiences growing up as a Nigerian. She realized there was inadequate information about blacks, so she decided to learn more about it and wrote a book.
Seyi's parents were quite accepting and supportive when she got her diagnosis. She was continuously reminded to maximize the resources available to her, boosting her academic performance. Sarah's parents were worried about the stigma that would come with struggling in school, so they adopted private classes to support her. Sarah was diagnosed with Dyslexia and ADD in her twenties.
Seyi's academic life was affected by her neurodiversity. In primary school, she was often treated as a special needs kid, which affected her confidence. Her performance in secondary school improved when she moved to a school with more diversity and inclusivity among teachers.
Seyi's book was targeted at two groups of people, the first being African families with neurodiversity who shy from these conversations due to the stigma. The second group includes other educators who primarily interact with kids.
Seyi hopes to write a second book much later. Although she is now in the corporate world, she is working on a petition to get funding for schools to be equipped with resources to aid in the early diagnosis of neurodiversity.
Navigating dating with neurodiversity is another hurdle that requires much intentionality and tact. This is still an ongoing process for Seyi, but she would instead withdraw from people offended by her neurodiversity.

Statistics from the Competition Market Authority (CMA) reflect this same issue. CMA revealed that people from ethnic minorities got twelve per cent less pay compared to white men. There were ten major findings highlighted. First, there are positive changes in some gaps, but challenges persist. Secondly, the underrepresentation of ethnic minorities in senior grades is a primary cause of the pay gap. Next, actions are focused on improving representation, career progression, and inclusivity. Also, the report uses various meshes like mean and median pay gaps, bonus gaps, and pay equalities. The report acknowledges the impact of competition specialists, ranging from digital data and technology, on the pay gap. Also, ethnicity pay gaps have reduced in some areas but increased in others.
About Portfolio Careers: Portfolio Careers comes from a place of hustle culture. As Sarah plans to work less on the corporate ladder in 2024, she has initiated plans to create a portfolio career to enable her to maintain a 9-to-5. Portfolio Careers can also maximize income, dabble in the corporate world occasionally, and still build assets. They offer protection from any unforeseen events in a typical job.
However, having a typical 9-to-5 job is not necessarily bad, as there are positives, especially if the necessary support systems are present at the workplace. Also, it comes with less risk and pressure to see results in the business, unlike entrepreneurship. The time spent working these jobs can also be used to determine which entrepreneurship field would be the best fit.
Employers sometimes prefer workers who identify with their job role, but workers should try not to be defined by a job. They may possess other skills that they can tap into instead of simply identifying with one job role. Even for employers, embracing people with portfolio careers can help them to be more transparent. Besides, it is an extra source of income for most black professionals who are not paid enough, particularly to keep up with the cost of living.
A membership platform is coming soon to provide people with Dyslexia and ADHD access to resources and experts to help them navigate work and life more efficiently. A waitlist is currently available with discounts, and listeners can visit the links in the

In this episode, I sit with Adriana Girdler, the owner and Chief Efficiency Officer of Cornerstone Dynamics, as she discusses the MVP strategy, a tool to improve our ability to achieve our goals both career-wise and in other aspects of life. Our guest today is Adriana Girdler, an expert in project management. Adriana's Ted talk on "The Power of Being Smart Lazy" highlights an approach to stop the "white noise" in life, consisting of several distractions that we don't realise are eating away at our time while pulling us away from our aspirations.
Regarding AI's effect on project management, it should be noted that historically, we don't do a good job ethically with technology. With for-profit organizations developing AI, there is the concern of making decisions for the immediate gratification of money. That said, it does have benefits, so it will not be eliminated. Inevitably, there will be displacement with the advent of AI but government regulations are imperative. Interestingly, despite the advancements, there is still very little awareness of AI.
The role of the project manager may change with the presence of AI but it will remain a necessary functional role nonetheless. There will be more strategic than tactical project management roles. Leadership, strategy, and critical thinking will be most required from project managers moving forward.
Requirements for an amazing project manager: First, the SLAY project management course is perfect for project managers who want to increase their skills exponentially.

Today's conversation focuses on the relationship between our Christian Faith and neurodiversity. While neurodiversity is often seen in a negative light, it is important to view it through the lens of the scriptures. One of these is Psalms 139:14 which says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Despite this, neurodiverse people find it difficult to fit in with society, especially because neurodiversity itself can be a stumbling block to carrying out activities. That said, these problems can be surmounted and should not be seen as a determinant of failure if people can look past their neurodiversity. Sarah also does this by focusing on her drive to help people rather than her neurodiversity.
Another scripture is Jeremiah 1:5, which says before God formed us in the womb, He knew us. This means God has a plan for everyone and a person's neurodiversity is not a mistake. Hence, it is up to each person to navigate their neurodiversity to figure out their purpose. It may take some time but no matter the problem, the solution will reveal itself.
There is also a need for organizations to make provision for neurodiverse professionals through adequate resources and offering concessions where necessary to allow productivity. Rather than avoid neurodivergent professionals, we should appreciate the variety that they bring to the workplace and their thinking patterns. Unfortunately, the drive for profits often supersedes the motivation to support these professionals.

Today's guest is Patience Udonsi, a lecturer in Learning Disability Nursing and Social Work at the University of Salford, Manchester. Her research interest includes neurodivergence and she has experience working with neurodiverse individuals.
The theory of intersectionality started based on findings that the treatment of black women was different from the treatment of white women such that even though there were interventions aimed at helping women generally, white women benefited more from such interventions. This also plays out in neurodiversity where a white neurodivergent male will face a milder set of challenges than a black neurodivergent female who is at risk of discrimination based on her race and gender added to her neurodiversity. This is because most spaces are not built to accommodate these identities, hence the experience is largely negative.
Notably, the problem is largely a structural one that trickles down into different aspects of society as a whole. An example is structural racism. Research has shown that organizations that try to address racism will by the same methods address other forms of discrimination.
Patience has worked with a young autistic boy who had ended up assaulting another kid when he was overwhelmed by noise hypersensitivity. Unfortunately, the boy's parents had very minimal education on his condition and the organization supposed to offer assistance had a rather poor understanding of his neurodiversity and as such, worked with an inadequate assessment of his behavior since he could not communicate efficiently.
This intersectionality also played out for Sarah who was advised not to divulge her neurodivergence in school so as not to add to the already existing challenges of racial discrimination. However, in many cases, hiding neurodiversity makes it almost impossible to get the right kind of needed support.
While people and institutions are more amenable to making adjustments in cases of obvious disabilities, they are often reluctant to recognize neurodiversity and make changes. It should be noted that there are legislations around these changes but activism is necessary to expose those who break these protective laws.
Neurodiversity alone comes with a richness of diversity in thinking and approach to life which makes the world interesting.

Today's discussion addresses the vulnerability of neurodivergent people to financial scams. Research has shown that neurodivergent individuals are at a higher risk of falling victim to financial scams, especially online. This may be due to the difficulty they have with social cues which makes them more trusting. Added to this is often impulsiveness that makes them vulnerable to the lure of the scam. The Humble Penny’s video on scams highlights more of this.
To protect neurodiverse people from financial scams, education is crucial as it helps to identify these scams. It may involve getting financial advice from books, workshops, or financial advisers. Another approach is to create safeguards like limits on online transactions, alerts for unusual account activity, and refraining from sharing personal information online. A trusted family member can as well be involved in managing their finances.
Budgeting can be challenging for neurodiverse people because it requires skills like planning, organizing, and time management. Budgeting has also been discussed in the Christmas episode of Divine Enigma. Some tools that help with budgeting include apps like Plum, Stepladder, or Chip, automatic bill payment setups, and a visual Budgeting system. Breaking down large tasks into smaller steps can help as well as seeking financial assistance where necessary.
While neurodivergent individuals are at a higher risk of financial scams, adequate education, and support can help them to successfully manage their finances.

The DSDM Agile project framework focuses on a set of products that describe the solution, the main deliverables of the project, and anything required to help with project governance and control or anything that helps with the process of evolving it. The formalities associated with each product depend on the project and the organisation.
Terms of Reference define the top-level objectives of the project. The aim is to justify the feasibility phase. It is a governance product because it may be used for the prioritization of a project in a portfolio.
The Business Case justifies the project. The justification is based on an investment appraisal determining whether the value of a solution to be delivered by the project warrants the cost to produce and maintain support for it.
Prioritize Requirement List (PRL) describes the requirements the project needs to address as well as their priority in meeting the objectives of the project.
The Solution Architectural Definition provides a high-level design framework for the solution, intended to cover both the business and technical aspects of the solution making the scope of the solution clear.
The Development Approach Definition describes the tools, techniques, and practices that will be applied to solution development as well as how quality will be assured. This makes a strategy for testing and reviewing crucial.
The Delivery Plan is a high-level schedule of project increments. It rarely deals with task-level detail except for tasks being done without the involvement of the solution development team.
The Management Approach Definition reflects the approach to project management considering how the project will be organized, stakeholder engagement, and how progress will be demonstrated.
Feasibility Assessment gives an idea of how management products will exist at the end of the feasibility phase when the product should be able to contribute to the feasibility of the product.
The Foundation Summary shows evolutionary solutions and management products as they exist at the end of the foundation phase. Each product should be useful in deciding whether the project will deliver the required ROI.
Evolutionary Solution consists of all components of the ultimate solution alongside deliverables necessary to explore the details of requirements and the solution.
The Timebox Plan provides depth and detail for each time box identified in the delivery plan.
A Project Review Report is a single document updated incrementally at the end of each project increment.
The Benefit Assessment describes how benefits have accrued in the live operation of the project. It may be produced periodically aligned with the timeframe used for justifying the investment.

Ogaga studied engineering and then got a Master's in Sustainable Energy Systems. However, she got bored after working in the field for a while and then left the job. She later came across a project management course and had more interest in it. In 2015, she got a job as a project manager using the knowledge she gained from the course she took, and has fully transitioned ever since, working in several countries.
The passion for impacting knowledge led Ogaga to found her project management Edtech company, where she helps professionals begin or advance their PM careers. Her company also helps startup businesses launch their project ideas through PM skills. One of the biggest challenges of project management is stakeholder management.
In managing difficult stakeholders, it helps to listen and truly understand the reason for their resistance. As for cross-functional teams, there are several logistical considerations to make, especially the different work cultures of different teams. Also, part of this is identifying and ensuring the presence of the key stakeholders required for any particular meeting. Sending out meeting minutes and actions after each meeting is necessary, both for those who were not around and as a means to follow up to ensure people do what is required of them.
Highlights of Ogaga's career include situations where she helps professionals get a PM role or advance their careers. Also, being able to talk to a thousand people at a conference was a huge moment as well as generally being able to impact lives. A major cause of burnout in PM is handling multiple projects at the same time. With a similar experience, Ogaga came up with a process to manage multiple projects by noting things down instead of trying to remember everything. This helped her declutter her mind and become more organized. She has now created a video on YouTube explaining her full process to stress-free project management titled "How to Manage Multiple Projects at Once"
Ogaga has used all project management methodologies and there is no single superior one because the method will depend on the project. For longer-duration projects that can be done in iterations, Agile is often preferred.

DSDM assigns clear roles and responsibilities to each person in a project. The color scheme in the DSDM team model represents different aspects.
One of the roles categories is the Project Level Roles which includes the business sponsor, business visionary, technical coordinator, project manager, and business analyst.
Another category is Solution Development Team Roles. These are the business ambassador, solution development, solution tester, business analyst, and team leader.
Next is Supporting Roles including the business adviser, technical adviser, workshop facilitator, and DSDM coach. They provide assistance and guidance to the project on an ad-hoc basis.
About the different roles; firstly the Business Sponsor role is the most senior project-level business role. This role is specifically responsible for the business case and the project budget throughout.
The Business Visionary is also a senior role that should be held by a singular individual to avoid confusion and misdirection.
The Technical Coordinator ensures that the project is technically coherent and meets desired technical standards. The role advises on technical decisions and innovation similar to the role of the business visionary from a business perspective.
The Project Manager offers high-level ad-hoc style leadership and manages the working environment.
The Business Analyst is active in supporting the project-level roles and the solution development team.
The Team Leader is the servant leader of the solution development team, ensuring that it functions to meet its objective.
The Business Ambassador has significant input into the creation and prioritization of requirements, after which this role offers daily detailed requirements.
The Solution developer works with other roles to interpret requirements and translates them into a solution increment that meets the functional and non-functional needs of the business as a whole.
The Business Adviser alongside the business ambassador is often expected to provide specialist input on solution development. This role may be for an intended user or one who provides legal advice to which solutions must comply.
The Technical Adviser provides specific technical input from the perspective of those responsible for operational change management, support, and ongoing maintenance of the solution
The Workshop Facilitator organizes and facilitates workshops to ensure people work together to meet the objectives in a compressed time frame.
The DSDM Coach role is most important where the team has limited experience with DSDM. The role helps team members get the most from the DSDM approach within the confines of the organization.
Business Interest is covered by the business sponsor, visionary ambassador, and adviser roles. Solution Technical interests are covered by the technical coordinator and adviser as well as the solution developer and tester.

In this episode, I explain the DSDM Process, with emphasis on the phases involved and their roles in the project life cycle. The DSDM approach to development and delivery is both iterative and incremental, such that features are delivered in order of importance starting with the most important. DSDM integrates project management and product development into a single process. Often, DSDM alone is sufficient but may be combined with another methodology.
The DSDM Process Module comprises a framework that shows the DSDM phases and is used to derive the project life cycle. The Pre-project phase ensures that the right projects are started and set up based on clear objectives.
The Feasibility Phase determines whether the proposed project is technically feasible and cost-effective. This decides if further investigation is justified or if the project should be stopped.
The Foundation Phase takes preliminary investigations from feasibility to the next level. It establishes a fundamental general understanding of the business rationale and the potential solution to be created without deep detail included. It lasts just a few weeks despite the size of the project. The aim here is to understand broadly the scope of the work and determine the project life cycle based on how DSDM will be applied to the specific need of the project. For smaller projects, it may be merged with the feasibility phase. Foundations may be revisited after each deployment phase.
The Evolutionary Development Phase is to evolve the solution, hence it requires the solution development teams to apply certain crucial practices to ensure the solution meets the business needs and technical standards. Using timeboxes, the solution development team creates solution increments iteratively, testing continuously while moving forward.
The objective of the Deployment Phase is to bring a baseline of the evolutionary solution into operational use. The release may be the ultimate solution or a subset of it, and after the last release, the project is closed. The Post Project Phase assesses how well the expected business benefits have been met. The lifecycle of the project is defined and agreed upon as part of the foundation phase.
DSDM recognizes the value of agility in project productivity when managing the necessary constraints in a corporate environment. DSDM can be configured to cater to projects ranging from small to large projects by determining an appropriate level of formality with which products are created. For a more complex project structure, products can be made more elaborate and formal than smaller projects.
DSDM has a total of 6 life cycle phases, each having a specific purpose with a defined product aimed at supporting the evolution of the solution and smooth running of the project. DSDM ensures control is demonstrated through a level of formality appropriate to the organization to achieve all benefits without compromising project governance.

In this episode, I sit with Rayna Lountzis Rayna is an entrepreneur, and a mother currently engaged in her Doctoral degree in film studies. She has not been diagnosed with any particular neurodiversity but suspects she has symptoms of ADHD. Her self-development journey started 3 years ago after which she also started her company, "Rayna Arts" last year. She decided to start diligently and consciously living to help people with their self-image.
Rayna focuses on self-image because she believes authenticity is crucial. Authenticity involves showing up as yourself always, irrespective of the environment. She had to start removing the false ideas about herself to find happiness and a sense of fulfillment. Due to her neurodiversity, Sarah also has difficulty being herself completely but strives every day to attain the kind of freedom that comes with authenticity.
We often find ourselves drawn to places that need our gifts the most, and even when it feels out of alignment there is a reason to be there at that time.
Rayna works on a project called "Evolution Film" which addresses mental health and disability quality in the film industry. Most of the members are neurodivergent and from various backgrounds.
The "Evolution Film" Project started with filling up the gaps in screenwriting jobs. The latest research shows that 9 out of 10 people in the film industry are either struggling with mental health or are disabled. However, some have not disclosed this due to the stigma.
It should be noted that the nuance surrounding mental health often leaves a stereotyped picture of insanity. However, this is not always the case with mental health as there are mental health issues with not very obvious presentations. People need to understand that mental health conditions just need treatment like any other ailment without the stigma.
A change of perspective can also be beneficial; shifting focus from what is undesirable to what is desired, while putting aside all the struggle, traumas, and emotions to reveal our true selves. We must consider what life would be like if we started to accept that each one of us is enough as we are.

In this episode, I highlight some challenges that come with having the uncertainty of work roles as well as lacking managerial support, and how professionals can go about tackling these issues.
Generally, women are not comfortable talking about their ages, however, Sarah is marking her 39th birthday. The general belief is that by this age, people should have figured life out but for Sarah, every day is an adventure with wisdom to gain.
The intersectionality of being a woman at work, who is black and neurodiverse can often be overwhelming and lonely. Even racism presents itself in the form of microaggressions. Sarah has experienced this which can be a confusing situation.
In addressing work role uncertainty, it is necessary to sit with the boss to get clear direction because it is the job of your manager. You should not have to go to work unsure about what you're supposed to do. Part of the problem is the fluctuation between encouragement and antagonism from the employer. It may cause insecurity about your abilities. Sarah has had to encourage herself when necessary, understanding that the lack of support does not mean she is performing poorly. In fact, a lack of managerial direction is more of a reflection of the deficiency of the manager in their responsibilities.
Also, rather than using acronyms or large terminologies to sound intelligent, it is more supportive to communicate simply. It is equally important to be confident enough to ask questions where needed, instead of feeling inadequate if you are not receiving a clear understanding of your role and what you need. This may be difficult due to Imposter syndrome but should be discussed with your manager. Additionally, speaking up helps to identify with other people who have similar feelings which validate yours.
The first step is to schedule a meeting with your manager to detail exactly what you need in terms of guidance or instructions. What makes a great project manager is being able to communicate effectively enough to have an impact on people from all works and life. This has always been a major skill set of popular successful leaders.
It is imperative to share additional challenges you're facing, especially when the manager cannot relate. It is better to address such issues than to always struggle to conform to the norms in different settings which is exhausting. Sarah had an area called "Safe Haven" where she could ask questions and get advice without judgment. Finding space and someone to have these conversations with, can go a long way to help people feel better. Listeners can reach out to have these conversations with Sarah by signing up for her coaching.
Asking for support from management also helps to navigate neurodiversity and other intersectionalities. Self-belief and practice can help with approaching your manager over these challenges.

There are 8 principles of DSDM and compromising them puts the project at risk. The principles are; focusing on business needs, on-time project delivery, collaboration, never compromising on quality, incremental building from firm foundations, developing iteratively, continuous clear communication and lastly, demonstrating control. While trying to maintain control of the project, if stakeholders present a frustrating attitude, the best approach may be to relinquish some of the responsibility.
Every decision taken in a project should be in line with the project goal. It is also crucial to deliver projects on time as this is often the most important success factor. Late delivery can undermine the rationale for the project; it can result in government fines or missed opportunities. Teams that work in active cooperation will outperform groups that have poor cohesive operations. Collaboration increases work speed, shared ownership, and understanding. In DSDM, the level of quality to be delivered should be agreed upon at the start and all work must target that level.
One of the key differences for DSDM in the Agile space is the concept of establishing firm foundations for the project before committing. DSDM advocates first understanding the problem and solution, without excessive detail which can stagnate the project. DSDM encourages incremental delivery of the solution which promotes stakeholder confidence.
DSDM promotes iterative development, frequent demonstrations, and comprehensive review for timely feedback. DSDM was designed to improve communication efficiency. It is crucial to be in control of the project and solutions, hence, team transparency is required. ISFs (Instrumental Success Factors) are factors required to position DSDM projects for success. Risks must be identified early and addressed. The DSDM project approach must be accepted and understood by project stakeholders and participants. Notably, in order to deliver the right thing at the right time, the product may deliver less than a hundred percent of the initial solution.
Building an effective solution development team for successful delivery focuses on 4 elements; empowerment, stability, skills, and size. Each member should be empowered to make decisions based on their expertise while the team also makes decisions as a whole within its boundaries.
For DSDM to be successful, the business must commit the necessary amount of time at all levels. This relies on three elements; the first is the commitment of business time which provides the business direction to shape the project solutions. The second is the active involvement of business roles which must be frequent throughout the project.
Transparency is about making ongoing work visible to all which provides proof of progress. This may be done with team boards and daily stand-ups.
The Project Approach Questionnaire (PAQ) is a checklist used to assess whether the success factors are likely to be met or if actions are needed to counter the risk of any of them being undermined.

Sarah is studying Agile Project Management. The first chapter discusses the Dynamic System Development Method (DSDM) and the Agile Business Consortium. DSDM is a framework for effective fast Agile project management and delivery. It has been applied to both small software developments and full-scale business process change. It provides a mature approach to Agile in a complex corporate world. It was created by a large number of project practitioners who wanted to build quality into "Rapid Application Development" (RAD). They initially only availed it to members of the consortium but later allowed it to be adopted universally for free.
The DSDM Agile Project Framework is an evolution of the previous version of DSDM, which provides information to use DSDM effectively and understand its practical application. Agile PF retains DSDM project-focused principles together with its roles that are suited to a corporate project environment. The most significant change in the DSDM process has been in the area of the product associated with the process.
In the past, many projects with a traditional approach failed either due to the large size, poor communication or business engagement, and the measurement of progression in percentages completed instead of delivery of business value.
To counter these problems, RAD was applied to incrementally build software applications based on discussions, demonstrations, and short feedback loops. This provided quick fixes but often its application adversely affected the quality of the solutions. DSDM was introduced to fix the problems of the traditional approach and RAD by combining the best parts of both approaches.DSDM has been at the forefront of scalable Agile projects and solution delivery. It has also been used on non-IT solutions and is often referred to as Mature Agile. As a founding member of Agile Alliances, DSDM has been the heart of Agile since 2001. DSDM encourages detail to emerge over time, hence the project can move forward, with a general understanding of the high likelihood that business requirements will change over time. This avoids the excessive effort spent in the traditional approach on detailed upfront work. Solutions from DSDM address the current and imminent needs of the business rather than the traditional approach of attacking all perceived possibilities. This allows solutions to have a better fit with business needs and ease of integration into business processes.
It is preferable to the implementation of more extensive solutions that have been complicated. DSDM requires basic foundations for the project to be agreed upon at an early stage which allows businesses to understand the scope of the solution before development begins. DSDM describes a broader set of roles than most Agile approaches, giving it a better fit in corporate environments.
DSDM offers 8 principles supported by definition of and guidance in people, products, processes and practices, all of which should be applied with common sense and pragmatism.

In this episode, I discuss a Biblical approach to neurodiversity, citing examples of neurodiverse individuals in the Bible. I also share strategies to promote a neurodiversity-friendly workplace as well as ways to harness the full potential of neurodiverse professionals.
Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world in many different ways; there is no right way of thinking or behavior. However, neurodiversity is often used in the context of neurological conditions or learning disabilities. Neurodiversity was coined by Judy Singer, an Australian sociologist to promote equality and inclusion of neurological minorities.
Neurodiverse people must not be seen as disabled but as people who learn differently. Neurodiverse people are unlikely to think with the crowd; they challenge assumptions, assimilate and process things differently. They are creative, resilient, curious, and innovative.
From the Bible (Gen 9:6, Psalm 8, Matt 22:15, Rom 8:29, James 3:9), it is seen that we are all perfect. Neurodiversity is not a mistake from God. God tells us that he delights in us and we are wonderful just the way we are. Sarah's faith as a Christian has helped her navigate through several aspects of her life, including her neurodiversity.
Jesus started the Christian Church which is one of the biggest organizations in human history. With this, Jesus can be seen in a way as a project manager. His goal was to find followers and organize them to proclaim the good news worldwide. Notably, Jesus exhibited the servant-leader style of leadership.
Certain scriptures reflect how the leadership of Jesus influenced his project management. First, Matt 6:24 describes the importance of finishing tasks one at a time. Matt 13: 24-30; the importance of paying attention to the message. Also, Matt 15:22-25 shows the importance of knowing the project scope. Matt 25:1-30 and Luke 14:25-35 talk about project planning. Mark 1:16-30 and Mark 3:13-19 are about team selection and management. Luke 15:4-6, John 6:67-70, John 13:34-38, and Mark 6:37-44; all these talk about taking care of others. Lastly, Luke 13:20-21 talks about teamwork.
Neurodiverse people are suited to many project roles. Neurodiversity encourages Inclusive non-judgemental language and education instead of assumption.
The laws in the UK and the American disability act which are supposed to protect Neurodiverse professionals are vague and complex.
Project managers need to be able to identify characteristics of neurodiverse people to make resources available to increase their productivity. Despite the difference in their thinking process, they can still get their work done satisfactorily.
To be a good project manager, the 2 qualifications to have are the PMP and the PRINCE2. Sarah is offering a six-week coaching program for neurodivergent and neurotypical professionals who want to improve their career prospects or get into project management and take the PRI

In this episode, I explain the concepts of Cost Planning and Cost Control, highlighting the difference between the two and how they are applied by the project manager to achieve the goal of the project.
Cost planning is the process of estimating the cost of a project before it starts, based on the estimated costs of its smaller components. Cost control is the process of monitoring and controlling the cost of a project and its progress by comparing the actual costs with estimates and making adjustments when necessary. PRINCE2 methodology offers at least a 10% buffer which is a contingency project for unforeseen cost changes. Also, considering the MoSCoW method (Must have, Should have, Could have, and Won't have); pivotal considerations must be made before any adjustments to a project.
A good project manager must be aware of the cost planning for the project. This starts with a detailed assessment of the project scope as it is crucial to stick to the scope to avoid "scope creep" The goal of cost planning is to provide an accurate estimate which may not be the exact price but can be used to develop a budget. A well-executed cost plan helps to identify cost savings and areas where additional funding may be required.
Cost control is an ongoing process that begins once a project is underway; it involves regular monitoring of the actual cost against the estimated cost. There are fixed costs which usually stay the same and variable costs which fluctuate more. Identifying these costs helps the project manager anticipate likely changes and make adjustments to keep the project on track.
Cost control requires ongoing cooperation between the project manager and the client. The project manager must make recommendations as needed. The team should also be aware of the budget and keep its costs in line with the budget.

Today’s true crime episode focuses on Derek William Bentley who was born on the 30th of June 1933 in London, England, and was the youngest of six children. From the age of 19, he was unable to work due to epilepsy. In the 1950s, he was charged with murder after a failed burglary attempt resulted in the death of a police officer. Despite evidence to the contrary, he was sentenced to death. This case raised questions and debates on the use of capital punishment, hence his sentence was changed to life imprisonment following which he passed on in prison from “natural causes” which in fact meant death by hanging but was only described as “natural” because such death was natural based on the gravity of the alleged crime. Derek's case continues to be studied and serves as a reminder of the importance of a fair and just criminal system.
The events of 2nd November 1952 led to his incarceration; Derek was in fact involved in a burglary attempt at a warehouse in South London where a police officer was shot and killed by Derek's accomplice, Christopher Craig. Bentley did not have a weapon or fire the shot but was arrested and charged with murder. His trial lasted just four days, after which he was found guilty and sentenced to death. Irrespective of a petition for clemency signed by over 100,000 people as well as the lack of evidence that Bentley fired the shot, the authorities hanged Bentley in accordance with the sentence. Bentley's case is often cited as an example of the harshness of the British justice system at the time.
In 1998, Bentley was granted a posthumous pardon by the Home Secretary who said that there was serious doubt about Bentley's guilt.
Sarah believes that Bentley was autistic and as such, unable to speak for himself at a time when neurodiversity was poorly understood. Some autistic people are highly intelligent but are unable to speak. Had people understood this neurodiversity, Bentley may not have been killed. Because of cases like this, the death penalty has been abolished. It is important to take extra effort to listen to neurodiverse people who may not be able to communicate well.

Richard Peachey from an organization called Neurodiversity Celebration Week (NCW). Richard is the NCW coordinator and his work involves organizing events, updating the website, and working with NCW partners from Lexxic which is a top UK neurodiversity organization. NCW also has support from employers, employees, and even educational institutions.
NCW was founded in 2018 by Sienna who is also neurodivergent. She wanted to start a social movement aimed at changing the narrative from the medical model of deficiencies to celebrating these neural differences. This is particularly important because of the language used to describe neurodiversity including words like disorder, disability, or deficiency. The term "Neurodiversity" was coined by Judy Singer to give a term for the natural differences in how our brains work.
Celebrating neurodiversity is a matter of pride as much as it is done to reveal the work required in this space. Scientific research puts neurodiversity at approximately 15 to 20% of the population and with the disparity surrounding neurodiverse folks, there is a need to change the narrative. Interestingly, lots of people who are neurodivergent do not keep full-time jobs; this is why they are likely to run their companies instead. NCW focuses a lot on education and now there is an inclination toward the justice system because there is a higher percentage of neurodivergent prisoners compared to their percentage in the world as a whole.
From the 13th of March, Monday morning, NC Week kicks off with conversations on the importance of celebrating neurodiversity including a panel on adapting to neurodiversity in the workplace. One of these panels will discuss the benefits of neurodiversity and the second will discuss creating a neuro-inclusive culture which is about identifying tools and working environments that help people function seamlessly. Also, there will be panels on education; creating a neuro-inclusive classroom, and supporting neurodivergent learners. Research has shown that neurodivergent workers were 42 percent more effective than neurotypical graduates.

Jacob is an advocate for a type of neurodiversity called ADHD, helping people and parents navigate the journey. He had been diagnosed with ADHD at age 14, and now uses his platform to highlight positive and inspirational people with ADHD, also providing resources for them.
As a dad with ADHD, he has had to figure out ways to process a routine when kids struggle with routines. Sleep is particularly important in ADHD because lack of it precipitates more symptoms.
Jacob had initially been diagnosed with dyslexia as a kid, after which ADHD was diagnosed and he started medication.
He had not shared much about his ADHD until his wife got pregnant, and he felt the need to interact with other parents having the same neurodiversity.
ADHD in ladies can be quite subtle which causes the diagnosis to often be made much later in life.
Medication is not compulsory for all ADHD cases because they present differently. For Jacob, it was crucial so he didn't get in trouble.
As a child, Jacob was energetic, creative, and inquisitive. As a teenager, he was isolated, masked, and ignored. Today, as an adult he is thankful, hopeful, and passionate.

The first step to overcoming career trauma is to identify the root cause and try to process them in a healthy way. If it was caused by discontent with your current career path, it may be necessary to change your field. If your trauma was caused by being passed up for a promotion or negative work interactions, then consider switching companies while also finding out areas you can improve on. Additionally, nurture other aspects of your life as it can help with managing career trauma.
Race, disability, and gender are aspects of our life we have little control over, yet they have a major impact on career success. Despite the beliefs of others, it is important to love and respect yourself, and believe in your ability to achieve your goals. Focusing on what you have rather than what you don't have can be the mindset shift you need to succeed. Learn to be consistent in preparing yourself for success and you will be ready once the opportunity comes. Having a vision for your life also helps keep you focused.
As difficult as it might be, the first step to finding a solution is coming to terms with the reality that these issues will always exist. It is crucial to realize that this is not your fault. Another way to address obstacles is to have an open dialogue to find out why you are not getting that promotion. This may or may not work but is worth a shot.
Try to find courses that help you get better at negotiating and managing people. Sarah is currently reading two books; "Who Moved My Cheese" which discusses change management, and "The Culture Map" which talks about navigating international projects. Listeners who want her to review these books on the podcast can reach out. Most importantly, prospective project managers looking to get promoted need to actively invest in their growth.
A six-week coaching program will be starting soon for neurodivergent people who want to improve their career prospects or get into project management. Sarah is also offering support to people who want to take their PRINCE2 exams as she successfully passed hers. Interested listeners can reach out to her directly.

I discuss the concept of Unfair Advantages and Privileges; how these show up in the everyday life of people, both personally and professionally, with reference to the role of a positive mindset in determining how they play out either as an obstacle or a superpower in our lives.
At every stage of life, we often face challenges we have to surmount to move forward while we gain new knowledge. Having a positive mindset can have a tremendous impact on how we approach the challenges in our lives and our ability to overcome those issues over time. Not everyone can achieve and maintain a positive mindset, and this was discussed in the book "The Unfair Advantage". Reading this book helped Sarah realize that neurodiversity can be used to help people get further in life if they can get a better grasp of how they work, as well as how to harness this knowledge to their advantage. It is important to focus on factors within our control and understand that obstacles can be a blessing if we simply change our perspective.
An unfair advantage is defined as a condition, asset, or circumstance that puts a person in a favorable position in their life.Everyone has a unique set of unfair advantages based on their life circumstances, and no two people can have the same combination of unfair advantages. However, the reality of unfair advantages is dependent on perspective and how people decide to use their resources.
The difference between an unfair advantage and a privilege is that an advantage is a benefit from personal life circumstances, while a privilege is a benefit from a systemic perspective that categorizes people based on traits like gender or race. For example, while family wealth is an advantage, being a white male is more of a privilege. Privileges are usually more structural and based on physical characteristics or nationality. They create typical generic issues for many groups of people who do not have them, unlike an unfair advantage which would create non-generic problems that apply to each individual in a specific way. Nonetheless, both terms are not mutually exclusive since it is possible to be at a disadvantage because of an underprivileged community. Because the problems created by privileges are systemic, they are difficult to change but you can learn to love yourself for who you are. Lack of self-love can affect confidence and discourage a positive mindset, which leads to stagnation as your decisions are always second-guessed in your mind.
It is easier to focus on the negative aspects of your life but it does not help you move forward. Self-belief with the understanding of your strengths and weaknesses creates the drive to move forward towards your set goals.
Sarah is currently planning a six-week program for neurodivergent people. She hopes to help them see their neurodiversity in a positive light, and improve career prospects, as well as job efficiency. Sarah would also help people looking to get into project management by familiarizing them with important related terminologies. In this program, she would be offering guidance to those about to write the PRINCE 2.

The Producer is responsible for developing a product, the reviewer assesses whether a product meets its requirements as defined in its product description, and the Approver is authorized to approve a product as complete and fit for purpose.
In-Process quality methods are the means by which quality can be built into the product while it is being developed. Appraisal methods are used to assess the finished products for competencies and fitness for purpose.
A Quality Inspection is a systematic assessment of a product conducted in a documented organized fashion. It can be used in product development either formally or informally.
Quality Records supports entries in the quality register through assurance that products are complete, and fit for intended purposes. It also shows records of quality failures and corrections.
The PRINCE2 quality review is to assess the conformity of a product against quality criteria, assess product quality, and confirm that the product is ready for approval.
The role of Review teams is to ensure that the review is undertaken properly. The presenter introduces the product for review and represents the producers of the product.
Preparing for reviews; make administrative agreements with the chair administrator, check the product and reviewers' chair are ready for review, distribute copies of the product to the review team, review the product in line with the quality criteria,
Some action points to follow up a review meeting include; coordinating actions, signing off individual actions, communicating the quality review outcome to appropriate managers, storing the quality records, and requesting approval.
Reviewers should ensure to avoid personalizing issues, operate as a team and defer to specialist areas where necessary. Also, they should not introduce trivial issues like grammatical errors at reviews; this takes off some of the pressure from people with dyslexia. Reviewers should also come well-prepared. Too much time should not be given for responses as this may invite too many comments. Generally speaking, even having too many meetings is not necessary; Shopify, for example, has taken practical steps to cancel recurring meetings deemed unnecessary. There should be a complete focus on the main product, not related products.
PRINCE2 defines a project as a temporary organization that is created for the purpose of delivering one or more business products according to an agreed business case.

In this episode, I **delve deep into the PRINCE2 guidelines, focusing on Quality and different crucial topics that surround it in project management.
PRINCE2 stands for Projects In Controlled Environments**. It is a project management methodology that provides a framework for managing and delivering projects in a structured way. It is recognized and used in government and corporate spaces in the UK and internationally.
PRINCE2 is divided into 7 processes; starting a project, directing the project, initiating the project, controlling the stage, managing product delivery, managing a stage boundary, and loading a project.
PRINCE2 can also be used alongside Agile methodologies. Agile is a more flexible iterative approach to project management which when combined with PRINCE2 can provide the structure and control to deliver a project successfully.
From Chapter 8 of the guide; the purpose of the quality theme is to implement the means by which the project will verify that products are fit for purpose. Underestimating this can lead to slippage, overspending, or poor quality results. The quality theme addresses the quality methods and responsibilities for the management of the project. Terms used to talk about the quality are sometimes interpreted interchangeably which can lead to misunderstandings. PRINCE2 uses specific terminology derived from the ISO 9000 Standard but aimed specifically initially at project work
Quality is the degree to which set and inherent characteristics of a product, service, process, person, organization, system or resource fulfill requirements. Quality management refers to coordinated activities to direct and control an organization with regard to quality.
Customer Quality Expectation is a statement about the quality expected from the project product captured in the project product description. An Acceptance Criteria is defined as a prioritized list of criteria that the project product must meet before the customer will accept it.
Quality Criteria is a description of the quality specification that the product must meet and the quality measurements that will be applied by those expecting this product.
Quality Planning is about defining the project product and its components with the respective quality criteria and quality methods including efforts required for quality control and product approval.
A baseline is a reference level against which an entity is monitored and controlled. Baseline products can be changed and altered but they must get signed off before presentation to stakeholders
A daily planner with several features is available on Sarah's website which would help with reviews from time to time.
Very often, acceptance criteria are defined in the phase of initiating the project but when finalised, they are subject to change with the approval of the project board.
Quality criteria need to be specific and measurable. The key to project management is basically taking complex information and making it easier for anyone to understand.

Our guest today is Toni, a neurodiversity coach based in Northampton, Massachusetts. She spent most of her life in the social service sector working with oppressed individuals and populations including people with developmental disabilities. She realized her love for coaching and started coaching neurodivergent individuals. Neurodiversity was a term coined because many of the deficits were under neurological minorities, and the term was a way to destigmatize individuals with such deficits. Autism and ADHD are typical examples of diagnoses that Toni works with, helping the her clients navigate work challenges.
Research shows that there are specific coaching techniques that are beneficial to neurodiverse people. An example is asking the person to define two SMART goals they want to work on, and evaluate their progress every eight weeks. Part of Toni's training is understanding the symptoms of different forms of neurodiversity.
Sarah observed that coming to terms with her neurodiversity made life easier as she didn't have to mask the condition anymore, which is something a lot of neurodiverse people still do. This can be so exhausting that it causes burnout. Individuals are so traumatized by their employment history because they have repeatedly lost their jobs. Those who have their diagnosis early in life start to believe that it will be impossible for them to get a good job because of it. Others who have not been diagnosed do not understand why they lose their jobs and may just see themselves as a failure.
For a new client starting with Toni, the first step would be a discovery call to determine if trust can be established, and to explain what coaching entails. Following this, they would get help with setting goals towards self-improvement to be the best version of themselves while also learning in-depth about their neurodiversity.
Neurodiverse people have many major qualities that can easily be overlooked or, in some cases, misjudged. They can be very intelligent, passionate, caring, loyal, empathetic to a point of sensory overload, and have a lot of integrity that does not give room for much diplomacy. However, they can be reluctant to get other points of view which gets them stuck.
Toni has also struggled with chronic depression, anxiety, and alcohol addictions. Based on this, she can relate to the typical challenges of neurodiverse individuals. These challenges can result in burnout which can tilt the individuals towards complete isolation to avoid interacting with others. Toni has been coaching neurodivergent individuals since 2017.

I go through another true crime story, this time looking at Elijah McClain, a very gifted neurodiverse individual who was misunderstood by law enforcement and unjustly killed without any offense.
Today's episode is a true crime series focused on the story of Elijah McClain, whose family described him as an athlete, pacifist, spiritual seeker, oddball, and extremely gentle soul. Based on this, the circumstances surrounding his death as narrated by the authorities do not add up. Born in 1996, his mum could tell he was exceedingly gifted. Sadly his talent was misunderstood and the schooling system didn't cater to kids with specific needs or he would have had the assessment to get a diagnosis of some form of autism.
Elijah's mother decided to school him at home believing that it would match his learning style. It worked as he learned to play musical instruments. By 19, he got a certificate as a Massage Therapist and also incorporated traditional healing practices into his work. He also enjoyed running very long distances without any exhaustion. Despite his physical activities, he always felt cold and had to use long sleeves and face covering all the time. This face covering would become a factor contributing to his demise.
On the 24th of August 2019, at 10:30 pm, the police were called concerning a sketchy person wearing a face mask at a gas station close to Elijah's home. On arrival at the scene, they had tried to call his attention from behind him unsuccessfully, and not realizing he had headphones on, they engaged him physically using handcuffs to restrain him while he was faced down on the ground. Additionally, they went ahead to place him in a chokehold, with claims that he was agitated. He vomited and was later injected with ketamine which put him to sleep. Unfortunately, while in an ambulance to a nearby hospital, his heart stopped. Despite resuscitation, he failed to regain consciousness even on life support till it was turned off.
Suspiciously, all 3 police officers claimed their body cams were knocked off during the arrest which made them unusable. They claimed that he was uncooperative but when the audio from the body cam was released, it was clear that he was complying. The audio also revealed that an officer had said that the camera should be moved, and showed Elijah explaining himself with an ID card. The audio extracted revealed that despite his cooperation, he was placed in a choke hold during which he still tried to vocalize his difficulty breathing.
While the first autopsy was inconclusive, an amended note showed Elijah died as a result of a complication of Ketamine administration following forcible restraint. All officers were cleared of any wrongdoing till an external investigation was demanded by the family. This then revealed that the officers had no justification to stop, restrain or frisk Elijah that night and that there was no intention to de-escalate the situation before a physical confrontation. The paramedics were also wrong to sedate Elijah without cause. In 2021, the three officers and two paramedics were charged with manslaughter.
One of the Takeaways here is the misunderstanding of people in the community who see the world differently. Had Elijah been approached with consideration and an attempt to understand rather than violence based on unfounded reports,

I sit with, Leddy Glenn, a certified life coach who successfully surmounted many of the challenges of her dyslexia, and now directs her efforts to help other neurodivergent people identify areas of difficulty particular to their neurodiversity, as well as set or achieve goals, irrespective of the challenge.
Our guest today is Leddy, who had dyslexia growing up, and is now proud of her learning difference, teaching others that dyslexia is not a weakness but a superpower. Leddy is a former special education teacher for kids and young adults up to 21 years old. During her time as a teacher, she had always hidden her dyslexia fearing that she would lose credibility because she never had good experiences growing up with it. When her kid also started special education, she decided to find ways to help families better the experience of special education. After a lot of self-reflection, she realized that there was no need to be ashamed of her dyslexia. Our experiences are important so we can give our own opinion and insight because we're looking at problem-solving in our own unique way.
As a life coach, Leddy helps individuals find their strengths and put them first to be successful because most people with learning differences focus largely on the challenges. She also works with people having autism, ADHD, and other not-so-obvious disabilities.
Sarah was diagnosed much later in life but the diagnosis helped her understand why her mode of learning was different from that of most people, and the tools made available created a huge difference for her. Leddy on the other hand was diagnosed in second grade around the age of 8 and she had started using tools much earlier. However, at the time, it was not seen in a positive light. She was not vocal about her dyslexia until she was about 42 years, after which she felt unburdened. She was able to build more relationships with other dyslexic individuals and this has increased her self-confidence and openness about it. It's important to talk about dyslexia with people around to get help with processing issues related to it, in a space of understanding.
Using tools like Grammarly has also been highly beneficial for Leddy, especially with the advent of phone apps that make spelling much easier. Parents need to understand that these tools are not spoiling the kids or a form of cheating but a learning aid. Even apps like Kindle have features to help dyslexic people read efficiently.
There is still a long way to go before the world is fully accepting of neurodiverse people, however, these conversations have started and the problem-solving qualities of neurodiverse people are getting more recognition. The shame or withdrawal is still present but it is improving, even as people are becoming more proud of it. There is also the perception that neurodiverse people are an inconvenience or unintelligent in the workplace. The reality is that for the average person, checks and balances are used to ensure they can get their job done, and this would be the same for neurodivergent people. The only thing required is to have a mindset shift and think about it differently.

I define burnout and highlight the signs of burnout with views from other neurodiverse individuals, as well as simple steps to take for anyone experiencing burnout.
Burnout is a state of physical and mental exhaustion that can occur due to long-term stress at work or working in a physically or emotionally draining role. Common signs include feeling helpless, trapped, tired or defeated, feeling detached or alone in the world, having self-doubt, procrastinating, feeling overwhelmed, and taking longer to get things done. When asked to identify the symptoms of burnout, 85% of UK adults correctly did, while 68% mistakenly identified symptoms of Anxiety.
Burnout has a more detrimental effect on neurodiverse people. Generally, burnout occurs over a period of time, and, the longer it takes, the longer it is to recover. Life can be exhausting for a neurodiverse person.
If you are feeling burnt out, take time off as much as you can but if your situation does not allow you to, then find short gaps of time in the day to take walks, rest or pray.
Notable Quotes
o "The longer the period building up to the burnout, the longer it will take to recover from it"
o "So many neurodiverse people live on this constant edge of burning themselves out"

SCORE used to stand for the Social Core of Retired Executives. It is a nonprofit based in the US, with volunteer workers, and it is partially funded by the SBA, banks, and other people. It consists of people who have business knowledge and want to help people who are just getting started in business, without charging any fees. This help can include teaching them how to prepare business proposals, offering marketing knowledge, and giving general business advice. Score business mentorship is a great resource for upcoming businesses because it is free; unfortunately, it is not widely well known.
Score mentorship gets funding from the Small Business Administration, grants, and sponsorships from banks or other businesses. Apart from the Score website, Score mentorship also has individual, state, and regional-level websites, as well as a presence on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. They hold an online workshop for free twice a week.
In the UK, there is a system where people can be on benefits such that when starting a business, they can apply for a grant to get funding for their business idea, however, the person must meet certain conditions. Score mentorship is available to anyone who is thinking about starting a business, at no charge. The benefit of this is that talking to a score mentor helps you identify whether it is even the right time or opportunity before you start.
Before starting a business, you need to be in the right mindset. Score mentorship often gives people homework to see how prepared they are for the business. Some of these include competition research, market studies, getting a business name, creating a business plan, and others. If people are not willing to do this work, they are usually not ready to start a business. Most importantly, it is not about the score mentor saying it isn't a good time, but directing the client to decide on their own, given the pros and cons. Nonetheless, support from the score mentors will be adequate.
There is no pressing need to quit your job when starting a business; keep in mind that you may need the funds for unforeseen issues outside your business plans. There's also nothing wrong with not wanting to start a business; the most important thing is being happy with whichever choice you make.
If you have dyslexia or any other disability or learning disability, try not to think of it as a disability; it's only a disability if you let it be one. Neurodiverse people need to talk more about their diversity so that more people can know about it and relate to it. People with learning differences need to realize that there's nothing wrong with them and in many cases, they are much smarter than most people.

At 53 years old, Dora got diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, both neurodiverse conditions. This masking is common among women or people of color because it is already hard enough getting work with these factors. To add neurodiversity, which is often misperceived as a disability would worsen the odds of getting a job. This mindset needs to change as companies need to understand that although some people learn differently, this doesn't make them less valuable. The different achievements of Dora clearly reflect how neurodiversity does not prevent individuals from success in any aspect of life
An official assessment test was carried out to confirm Dora's dyspraxia/dyslexia and there was a lot of support in place to help her with her work, including a quiet room to work, a unique laptop, and software tailor-made for her neurodiversity, as well as extra time to complete her tests or exams. Oftentimes, neurodiverse people have to do more work to truly perform at their best but this is not a disability. Although the test was strenuous, it was worth it after all. She received the diagnosis with much calmness especially since she had some experience with my diagnosis as her daughter. For people who suspect that they may have a form of neurodiversity, it is important to take the assessment to confirm and start getting access to tools that can help them perform optimally in all aspects of their lives. Because the tests may be expensive for adults, it is possible to speak to employers or general practitioners to help out with these tests. There is information for support on the UK government website for people who feel they may have neurodiversity. Neuroinclusive Christmas, Finances, and Dealing with Loneliness.
In this episode, I share practical considerations for people going about festivities this holiday season, keeping in mind their neurodiverse loved ones, financial responsibility, and dealing with loneliness at this time.
Today's topic focuses on the holidays, including a neuro-inclusive Christmas, finances, and dealing with loneliness. With the holidays, It is important to still moderate your expenses, to avoid running into a shortage of funds going into the new year. Also, have the right coping mechanisms to deal with loneliness during this period.
While preparing for the holidays, there are provisions that you can make for neurodivergent loved ones as they have to deal with the pressures of societal norms in this period and sensory overload. Hence, arrangements should be made both at home and work since festivities would take place there. Additionally, when we identify things that make neurotypical individuals uncomfortable, we help them decompress by moving them away from the source of the nuisance.
The last quarter of the year provides ample opportunities to spend money by trying to take advantage of seasonal deals, getting holiday wear and decorations, or purchasing gifts for loved ones. One of the ways to remain financially steady through all the spending is to set aside a budget that is within your capacity, before the holiday season. It also helps to have an open dialogue on your plans for holiday expenses and the expectations of your loved ones. Applying certain budgeting practices like homemade meals or preparing much simpler gifts like a photo collage can go a long way. You may even just be honest about not having enough in that period. The most crucial aspect of this holiday is to prioritize spending time with loved ones much more than just money.
For people who are far away from loved ones and have no one around, maybe because they have travelled, it can be scary spending this time of the year alone. It is, however important to remember that this time of the year will pass, and people will come back. In the meantime, you may need to find activities you can do alone. These include reading a book, listening to a podcast, finding online friends, and going on websites like Meetup to find other people alone during Christmas. Some employers create meetups on Christmas day for people who are lonely during Christmas to interact with others.
Some people decide to spend Christmas alone intentionally. Studies show that one in six people in the UK is expected to spend the holidays alone during Christmas and New year; 24% of adults aged 35 and 44, as well as 12% of people over 55 years.
Another method to manage loneliness is to find a hobby, something you do just for the fun of it. You may catch up on work or other studies, watch movies, and reflect. This is a period when you can set major realistic goals called SMART goals; Specific, Measurable, Achievable, and Timely. These goals can be small and may be personal or professional.

In this episode, I walk you through a true crime episode, sharing the real-life story of June and Jennifer Gibbons, popularly known as the silent twins, based on their unique mute nature. I describe their speech impediment, challenges they faced growing up, and how the poor understanding of their neurodiversity led up to a rather tragic end.Once a month like today, I will discuss a true crime series on people who have neurodiversity. Today's episode focuses on "The Silent Twins" , by June and Jennifer Gibbons, who were born on the 11th of April 1963 to Aubery and Gloria Gibbons. Growing up, it was observed that both of them could hear and understand people but had a speech impediment that made their words jumbled. Surprisingly, while it got more difficult for others to understand them, they could understand each other perfectly. By school age, their speech was almost completely unintelligible but they had developed a type of idioglossia such that the sound and formation of words were completely their creation.
This phenomenon is often referred to as twin speech because it is commonly associated with twins. Because of this, added to their skin color, the twins were bullied at school. This isolation got worse as by middle school age, they only communicated with each other and their younger sister. In letters to their teachers, the girls blamed each other for their language, and after much effort and therapy, the twins were sent to separate boarding schools, hopefully, to encourage communication with others. Unfortunately, this rather put them in a catatonic state. Their story titled "the Pepsi Cola Addict" was self-published while none of the other stories were published. Getting to their late high school years, they received a social welfare check, and they began to spend on drugs and alcohol which led them to petty crimes with no official prosecution. This was until the age of 18 when they started setting fires to establishments in their town, which June documented in her diary.
The lack of understanding of their neurodiversity caused them to be treated as a strange phenomenon rather than treating them with consideration and encouragement, allowing them to lead meaningful lives. They decided that whoever lived must start speaking and live normally. In the end, it was screed that Jennifer would die. On the day they were released from the Broadmoor hospital, Jennifer went into a coma and passed away at a hospital from what was identified as "Acute Myocarditis". June's response to this was that she was free and Jennifer had given her life for this liberation. She gave several interviews and now lives independently, no longer monitored by mental health services.
A movie will be released portraying the girls, and it will be titled, The Silent Twins. Resources Mentioned

Episode NotesToday's discussion will be centred on project management. A project manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project and must be competent in managing the 6 aspects of a project; Scope, Schedule, Finance, Risk, Quality, and Resources.
An example of the scope statement is on my website which describes the scope of a website project for a business, with the acronym "MOSCOW"; what the website Must, Should, Could, and Won't have.
The first tip to manage multiple priorities is to have a master plan to identify what to accomplish first, preferably by using a Daily Planner. I will be creating a planner for neurodiverse people on my website for purchase. Secondly, you need to know how to organize tasks by priority. It may involve arranging tasks by the date and time when they need to get done. Thirdly, break your tasks into smaller activities. Next, limit distractions and this can include setting your phone on 'do-not-disturb’ mode, blocking or deleting apps, or turning off your devices completely.

In this episode, I sit with Oluwaseye Ogunfidodo, a customer service adviser, working in retail and retraining to become a software developer. He shares some of the methods he employs to amplify his ability to learn and perform efficiently as a professional with neurodiversity.
Our guest, Oluwaseye is currently a customer service adviser with a passion for tech, working for a food retail company and retraining to become a software developer. He recently moved into tech after being unsure of what career to go into for a long time. He also chose tech because it affords him the flexibility of having his work schedule at his pace without micromanagement.
Also a neurodiverse individual, Oluwaseye has a learning difficulty, autism, and dyslexia. He was diagnosed with autism as a kid, and while building a career has had to rely on his Christian faith and mentors. He still plans to get an assessment now as an adult. His mind spirals to figure out the particular tools that would help him learn better.
The first tool that often helps is writing down notes and also an apple laptop specially made to suit neurodiverse people. He also makes use of the calendar on his computer and takes a lot of breaks while learning.
Autistic people often also have a lot of ideas and have difficulty expressing them. It helps when they can organize these thoughts in a quiet place to articulate them. To handle the overwhelming flow of thoughts coming into his mind, Oluwaseye reads his bible and prays for spiritual help in his learning. He also uses the voice capacity app on his phone. Additionally, it helps to have a tribe of people, including mentors who encourage you every day.
Oluwaseye hopes to finish his software development course by next year. He plans to inform prospective employers about his neurodiversity, and to work with a company that has provision for neurodiverse professionals. Sadly, many companies claim to be open to neurodiverse individuals but in reality, their facilities are inadequate.
Notable Quotes
o "A lot of people who have learning differences can bring a lot to the table, and I think it should be celebrated more, rather than seen as a hindrance"
o "It is better for anyone that is going on this career path; just be sure what type of job sector or company sector you want to try and work for"

Welcome to the Divine Enigma Podcast, a safe place for project managers and professionals to learn to navigate the complexity of being neurodiverse in the workplace. In this episode, I talk about being a neurodiverse professional in a corporate setting, sharing insights from my experiences. We explore the tools I use to manage my dyslexia as a project manager and the soft skills that I have identified as crucial for any professional to excel in the workplace.
Neurodivergent is a term used to describe individuals that have brain processes that behave or learn differently from everyday people. It may come with multiple disabilities like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette's syndrome, and others. As a neurodivergent, I have been diagnosed as dyslexic with ADHD although this diagnosis has never been shared for fear that it could easily become another factor that must be overcome to be taken seriously at work. However, being neurodivergent is a superpower, not something to be ashamed of; this was the inspiration behind the podcast name, Divine Enigma. Neurodiversity is the concept that all human beings vary in terms of neurocognitive ability. Everyone has both talents and things they struggle with, however, in neurodivergent people, the gap between those two areas is widened, resulting in an exemplary performance in certain areas and a disability in some others. Neurodivergent people can be highly productive in an environment that amplifies their strengths and reduces disabling factors. Being neurodiverse, particularly with dyslexia, there are five key tips to stay organized while working as a project manager.
Firstly, ensure you have a planner and a list of things to get done before the next day. Secondly, try to allow yourself extra time if you're coming into a new environment. Next, use apps like Speechify, Grammarly, and others to help you effectively read or prepare documents. Fourthly, always have a power bank or enough battery life for your journey; your phone may come in very handy to help you navigate your way to a new place, using apps like Citymapper. Lastly, you may use apps like Otter to record your meetings and listen back on them; remember to get permission before recording in a meeting as there may be sensitive information being discussed. According to the British Dyslexia Association, Dyslexic people all have strengths like lateral thinking, big-picture thinking, problem-solving, and an intuitive understanding of how things work. With the right support, dyslexic people can shine. Neurodivergent individuals tend to have soft skills which are very beneficial for growth in the workplace.
The first crucial soft skill to have is being coachable which refers to the ability to take feedback or criticism and apply it to your work. Keep in mind, you must evaluate if the feedback is constructive and not simply meant to demoralize you. Another soft skill to have is the ability to be empathetic and supportive, which is quite common among neurodivergent people.
