We found several caterpillars in our garden one day. My son (5 years old) was fascinated and started talking to them. He knew they would turn into butterlies eventually since he is a huge fan of the tales of "The very hungry caterpillar" story.

I remembered having an old little greenhouse somewhere in the attic and we quickly built a new home.

Some soil on the ground and a few leaves as food. My son also suggested putting in a planting pot (cut in half) as a little house so the catterpillars can protect itself from light if they wish to do so.

To keep them from escaping we cut up some screen door wireframe and installed it on top. The top "door" had to be left open on one side for fresh air, the other side we kept closed and cut a big hole in the screen door wire so the butterflies we hoped to get would be allowed to be set free and fresh leaves for further feeding could be put in.

After a few days we already saw the first chrysalis and about a week later the first butterfly was inside one morning.

We let it out and fly away. My son was very excited of course and I am glad he had no trouble letting go. While he was waving after it and wishing it a wonderful life I discovered another chrysalis in which the dots on the wings could already be seen.

When I pointed out that this one will be hatching soon, it was my son who suggested to set up the time laps camera and film it.

Only 6 hours later we had a second butterfly and the video of it hatching.

Of course we released this one as well once it was settled.

For this one I took my first steps in stop motion animation. There is much to learn about that, especially getting a fluent motion.

To begin with this art I recorded the assembly of set 30465. Fluent motion was not so much the goal.

From this I wanted to learn to place things back where they are supposed to be based on the previous shot.

I also took the opportunity to further play around with my video editor, adding the sounds for the different steps.

Please forgive the clumbsy ending but I could not resist. ;-)

I finally beat my previous record by two seconds.

I was not on a try to do so but just recording a regular playing session.

Suddenly I was dropped into a level with a lot of drones right at the start. After about 10 seconds it dawned on me that this might actually be a chance "by chance" and I got nervous, which costs me another two or three seconds, but I still managed to beat my old record of 32 seconds.

Hello Lego Community.

I have been rediscovering Lego lately together with my 5 year old son who is just discovering it.
And a few days ago I found out my cellphone has a timelapse function in the camera.
Today I finally put those two together in a little tryout. So this is my first ever video of building a lego set.

I was unloading a truck when I noticed some liquid on the right side fork. To find out what it was (could only be water or oil) I dipped my finger in it and the rubbing test revealed it was oil.

The forklift just went through maintenance the day before, which meant all the hydraulic connectors were checked as well. Not uncommon for a drop of oil to be found afterwards, especially since there are a lot of hydraulic systems in the main beam.

I cleaned it up and continued unloading. A minute later another drop was there.
We started wondering if any of the hydraulic connections might be leak. Maybe the moment I use a certain system another drop was squeezed out.

To find out what was happening we cleaned it up again and went through all operations. Ah, there's the drop of oil again.

But noone saw which connection squeezed it out.

Then someone remarked: "The fork is bleeding" and we payed more attention to the spot itself instead of the hydraulic connections.

Indeed, even at stand still the oil was somehow coming directly out of the fork's top backside.

It was cleared up the next day, when the maintenance guy was called back to check it out.

Turns out, there is an hydraulic system running through the fork itself. This allows us to extend it from 1.2 meters to 2 meters for longer loads. Of course we knew about the function but were astonished to hear that instead of connecting the hydraulics with a tube, the inside of the fork's backside is actually used.

After being in use for about 8 years now enough microfractures finally built up for this oil leakage.

While the guys at Cryptoshots are working on getting us the next two level for hive in January, I had a run through first level in 32 seconds today.

I'll keep recording my Cryptoshots sessions, maybe I can beat this down to under 30 seconds one day.
