Coming fresh off the 2022 Indie Artist Summit, I had a conversation with my friend Kristine Mirelle about how she was able to 5x or 10x her music revenue with a strategy that didn't involve sending all her traffic to her Spotify.
Not only she's a multiple 7-figure earner as an independent artist, she shows other musicians how to get results with this untraditional music business concept!
She told me the story of this artist that talked to her, saying that he got 60,000 views on my video organically (which is pretty cool)!
But he said that he wasn't making any money and that he didn't know what he was doing wrong.
After checking everything with him, she saw that in the description of that video, he had a link for people to go to his Spotify...
Started doing a lil math and broke down some numbers:
So if 3% of those 60,000 people (1,800) went to your Spotify and streamed your song there, it means that you made $8.46 ($0.0047 per stream)!
Exciting or nah (I think you can figure out the answer to that)?
Then she went on to tell him to send people to a funnel instead! And a funnel is an untraditional website that you can setup that has a series of pages where when someone goes through, they can only complete 1 action on them, taking them on a journey until they become a buyer.
So say that you're selling a lil album bundle for $40 on that funnel and 3% of that 60,000 bought it, you would have made $72,000 vs $8.46! Because 3% of 60,000 is 1,800 and 1,800 x 40 = 72,000.
If we break it down to 1% of that 60,000 that buys, which is 600, that would be $24,000 vs $8.46!
The simple question is: which one do you think he'd rather? Definitely NOT $8.46.
That said, this is a conversation that me and Kristine had on the Indie Artist Summit and she shared how she used a sales funnel as an independent artist.

Strategy: Typically, it comes down 4 types of products that I call offers (combining
physical and digital products together):

4 - High ticket offer (bring more value at $1,000+)

This is the 3rd part mini-series of the AMF formula to become a self-made music artist.
Now the F stands for super "Fans" engine!
Following the last episode, where I talked about the 5 keys to music freedom with marketing, those keys would allow you to unlock and start that super Fans engine.
There was a section in my journey where I went deep into learning the fundamentals of marketing, and through that I discovered the 1000 true fan concept by Kevin Kelly.
He said: "Get 1000 supporters to spend $100 on what you create for the whole year and you'd make $100K!"
And it would be the same with your music.
It will require hard work, but once you build it up to YOUR 1000 True Fans, you are free forever to live as an independent creator earning good money making what you love!
And then it becomes math that YOU control.
Use a marketing sales funnel to collect emails and phone numbers, take followers from being outsiders to insiders of your world by taking them on a journey, nurturing them and converting them into true fans!
Someone that did it well is my good friend Kristine Mirelle, 7-figure music entrepreneur that made millions independently by avoiding to send her audience to her streaming links, but to her funnel so she would grab their email, deliver a free download of her songs, nurture them, get them to support her by them buying digital products that she created in the back end, converting them into true fans up to this day.

As I mentioned on the last 2 episodes, I'm breaking down the AMF formula, which is
one that I think independent artists should use to become self-made musicians!
The A stands for Affiliate Marketing, and I said on the previous episode that
you can build passive income that will cover your bills and increase your
budget to invest in your business career.
For that, I want you to think about monthly recurring tools that you're using
right now to grow your music business, like your website, your email marketing
too, etc.
These are tools that you need and pay for every single month that you can
become an affiliate for to refer to other people like you!
You'd then get a percentage of the monthly fees from the people you referred and
that's how you start earning passive income.
Now when you get to the point where you have good passive income coming in, and
that will take time (anything worth having can be simple but not easy), you'll
be able to cover all your bills and then some, plus you'll be making music
stress free!
But that music will need marketing, and that's also considering that you'll be
able to invest into improving the quality of your music too.
And over the years, coming from getting back to my music path after a financial
disaster and investing in myself, coaching, mentorship, geeking out on marketing,
I strategically discovered that there are 5 keys that will lead you to music
freedom with marketing:
Key 1 - Identifying and finding your audience
Key 2 - Produce online content that will attract your audience
Key 3 - Grow an highly engaged following
Key 4 - Build a music buyers list
Key 5 - Effectively retarget them with ads
Once you gather all those keys and implement them effectively, it's gonna allow
you to unlock your Super Fan Engine, which we'll cover on the next episode!

On the last episode, I talk about how I came up with the formula to becoming a self-made music artist.
It stands for AMF, which is: Affiliate marketing + music Marketing + super Fan engine that equals independent music success!
So over the next 3 episodes, I want to take a little bit of time to break down each of the elements of this formula so that you can
understand it more deeply.
Just know that its my opinion on things I get results with and when I share them to some of my consulting artist clients, they get results too!
Just like Que3, female rapper from Florida took my advice and said “Even since I hooked up with Big Shot, I’ve became more successful with promoting my music. Been able to get more exposure, a bigger audience and a bigger fan base!”
So first, I want to tackle affiliate marketing.
That's the part where you can build passive income, meaning money that you can earn without trading more of your time for, to cover your bills and fund your music business!
Just to be clear, affiliate marketing is NOT network marketing, although they have things in common (like the word marketing lol).
Now quick definition: AFFILIATE MARKETING is an advertising model in which a company pays others to advertise their products, tools or services.
AFFILIATES go out and market those products, tools or services online and commissions are paid on the leads that convert to sales.
So you don't need your own products, tools or services for this business model.
And you don't need any extra capital to start!
Did you know you could be an affiliate for Walmart right now?
And if you hear a friend say that they're looking for a 80 inch tv, asking you if there are any deals out there that you could give them your affiliate link for the Walmart web page that sells that TV?
How about Amazon?
For example, you could make a video on the list of the equipment that you use to make your music with affiliate links for them in its description where people could go to to buy the same gear that you have!
When they buy, you get affiliate commissions from the sales.
Affiliate marketing is every where.
You can google affiliate program for XYZ company and the details on how to join will pop up!
And just so you know, the market size of affiliate marketing in $12 billion dollars!
Just imagine getting your piece of that pie...
What I like to do with affiliate marketing is build passive income.
And here's the 4-step system that will potentially help you do that:
1 - pick a MONTHLY payment plan product, tool or service

Here's what end up happening when I went broke spending money on paid ads to build my music production business online:
I got back to getting a job, and not long after, I came across something called affiliate marketing (not network marketing).
Now here's 3 things I did to start fixing my financial mess so I can go back to the music:
1 - Got a job that I knew was temporary
2 - Sold to things around the house that were not putting money in my pocket on classified ads
3 - Invested in myself to learn new high-ticket selling skills in affiliate marketing
What stood out when I implemented all this is that:

Invest in myself to get new skills

Increased my income with passive streams

Invested that income in financial assets to progressively bring more money in

A lot of music artists think that because they're at the beginning stage of their music career that they're in an unfavorable spot.
They try one thing, it fails and they quit right then and there.
Documenting your journey by sharing some of your story, your experiences, your growth, and some of your failures as a music artist will actually help you find the fans that will support your journey in the long run!
You can strategically be be a bit more vulnerable and sharing some of the behind the scenes.
Sharing what you learn and implement along the way can impact one or many people.
For example: Cardi B became one of the bigger artists in the game by sharing her true personality!
Furthermore, some artists in my community (The Big Shot Herd Music) were able to improve their sound quality by getting feedback on the Live weekly song reviews show that I host.
So you are at advantage if you're at the early stages of your music career because you get to test things, get some feedback and got a lot less to lose if you make bad decisions than if you are more established at the top of the game!
I went broke spending money on paid advertising at one point in my journey while building my music production business up online because I was focusing on what most people think is important.
Learned early on that the money is in the list when building a business online.
Was solely focused on generating leads with Facebook ads and then trying to sell things in the back end.
You will fail quickly if you don't find a way to recoup some of the ad costs with this strategy, especially with a music business.
If you're gonna use paid advertising, you need to sell something in the front end that will help you to break even on what you're spending on ads.
