This podcast series will aim to compliment Transplant Live education program, with subject areas that are not easily delivered in a lecture format and instead lend itself to more conversational teaching. It will aim to inspire the new generation of transplant professionals through their early career development. The topics discussed within the podcast will include contemporary transplant-related topics aimed at a pan-European audience of young transplant professions. This is designed by the Young Professionals in Transplantation [YPT], a Committee of the European Society for Organ Transplantation [ESOT]
In this ELPAT podcast, host Joe Briley speaks with Dr. Frederike Ambagtsheer, criminologist and legal scholar at Erasmus Medical University. Frederike shares her expertise on the illegal trade in human organs, her role in the EU-funded HOT Project, and the ongoing challenges of organ trafficking. The discussion also addresses broader issues in transplantation - from incentivising donation to tackling staffing shortages and ensuring sustainability in the profession.
In this episode of the ELPAT podcast, host Joe Briley speaks with Dr. Chloé Ballesté, Medical Director at the DTI Foundation and transplant specialist at the University of Barcelona. In this episode, we discuss the significance of leadership in healthcare settings, including the various styles and domains of leadership, as well as the importance of adaptive and compassionate leadership.
Our guest today is Dr. Peter Gogalniceanu, a consultant transplant surgeon at Guy’s Hospital in London. His academic research centers on healthcare risk management, business continuity, and crisis leadership. His latest work examines the impact of armed conflict on civilian medical organisations.
He holds a PhD in healthcare systems design from King’s College London and is a graduate of Harvard Medical School’s Safety, Quality, Informatics, and Leadership Program. He has held several educational leadership roles at UCL, King’s College London, and Harvard Medical School. He also leads the Executive Fellowship in Surgical Leadership at King’s Health Partners.

Welcome to another fabulous podcast from the Young Professionals in Transplantation (YPT). Today we have a special podcast where we discuss a career in transplant nursing. We are lucky to be able to interview a couple of legends in the field of transplant nursing.
Our guests today include:
Professor Anna Forsberg is a clinical professor in the caring sciences at Lund University in Sweden. She has been a registered nurse since 1991 and did her PhD in health-related quality of life after liver transplantation. She is the current chair of ETHAP (The European Transplant Allied Healthcare Professionals). She has an active research career and continues to inspire a new generation of nurses.
Lisa Burnapp was, until recently, the President of the British Transplantation Society and is a current Associate Medical Director for Living Donation for NHSBT in the UK. Lisa qualified as a nurse in 1985 and has been a Consultant nurse in living donation at Guy’s Hospital in London. She has a masters in medical law and ethics. She rose to the very top of British transplantation and is a true inspiration to all transplant professionals.
Anna Brantmark is a clinical nurse specialist in transplantation at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. She is currently doing her PhD in the Art and science of adaptation after liver and visceral transplantation. She is also a board member of the Education Committee of ESOT.

Welcome to our third YPT podcast with host Dr Dilan Dabare!
In this podcast, we interview Professor Lorna Marson, Honorary Consultant Transplant Surgeon and Professor of Transplant Surgery at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. Prof. Marson is the current College Dean of Admissions, supervisor of PhD and MD students, and lead for Diversity and Respect for Edinburgh Medical School. She is a past President of the British Transplantation Society and chaired the College of European National Transplant Societies. At ESOT, she is a very active member, with a current EKITA board member position since 2021.
In this podcast, we discuss the impressive career of Prof. Marson. She highlighted her decision to pursue a career in transplant surgery, combining work and family, being a part-time working trainee, and the importance of mentors in the clinic and academia. Prof. Marson shares her life story and provides insight into her views on medical training and transplant research. She discusses the twists and turns in her surgical training.
This podcast has advice for transplant professionals at all stages of their careers by a real leader in the field of transplant surgery.

Welcome to our second YPT podcast with hosts Dr. Dilan Dabare and Dr. Stan Benjamens!
In this podcast, we interview three of our own board members – Dr. Hannah Esser, Dr Caroline Dudreuilh and Dr. Gianluca Rompianesi.
Each of them is either currently doing or have recently completed successful research or clinical fellowships. They are supremely knowledgeable and provide a wealth of advice and tips on organising and going through fellowships.
Dr. Hannah Esser is a surgical trainee in Austria and is currently doing a research fellowship in Edinburgh.
Dr. Caroline Dudreuilh is a transplant nephrologist from France who is now doing a clinical and research fellowship in London.
Dr. Gianluca Rompianesi was a surgical trainee from Italy. He came over to the UK and did several clinical HPB, kidney and liver transplant fellowships in London, Oxford and Edinburgh. As a result, he is now an Associate Professor of HPB and Liver Transplant Surgery in Naples, Italy.

Welcome to our very first podcast, brought to you by the Young Professionals in Transplantation (YPT). In this first series of podcasts, we will interview transplant professionals across Europe to bring their experiences directly to you, tackling important issues around career development in the field of transplantation. The podcasts are deliberately short, enabling you to listen on-the-go, wherever you are!
In this first podcast, we start with a tribute to Dr Sevda Hassan, Chair of YPT, who sadly passed away just before this podcast launched. She had listened to the recording a few days before she passed and was excited by the upcoming series. Sevda inspired us all to be better and will leave a huge void in the European Transplant community.
The guest of this podcast is Dr Nina Pilat, who is well known to many of you at ESOT and is an Associate Professor at the University of Vienna. Dr Pilat has successfully applied to several research grants based on her work into Treg-induced transplantation tolerance and is the Chair of the Basic Science Committee of ESOT.
Dr Pilat talks about her experience of grant writing over the years with great advice for young researchers. Based on Dr Pilat's personal experiences, the podcast discusses the general principles of successful grant writing and how to handle rejection.
