Hollybrook is an Additional Support Needs (ASN) Secondary school in Glasgow, Scotland for pupils with learning disabilities to learn in a special context outside of mainstream education. One of the major focuses of the work of the school is emotional intelligence which is reflected in this conversation.
In this first episode of the Speaking Up for Ourselves podcast our S1 teachers, Jill Skelton, Michael McBride and Joseph Glen talk about their work in teaching our S1 pupils. This year we have been thinking about changing the way that pupils make the transition from Primary School to Secondary School.
At a difficult time in their lives, particularly given the challenges of COVID-19, we decided to give our new pupils more time in the one classroom with a single teacher to try to make this transition more straightforward. Jill, Michael and Joseph talk about how they see this going at the halfway point of the first year.
Please feel free to get in touch with any comments, questions or thoughts that might be helpful.
