Winter is on its way and we thought it is a perfect time to talk with Jason from Woolove and Northern Sun. In this episode, we replay our second episode where Wes talked with Canadian off road racer Steve McCrossan about his recent second place finish at the NORRA Mexican 1000 desert race. A long time Ontario short course racer, McCrossan and his team recently made the move from their high tech Pro 4 short course truck to racing the Baja in a short wheelbase early Ford Bronco. We talk about the incredible atmosphere at the NORRA race as well as the differences between short course and desert racing.

This invterview is something different for you. Wes talked with Gabriela from WildSafeBC, who is the provincial leader in preventing conflict with wildlife through collaboration, education and community solutions. We discussed a lot about bears, including how to prevent conflict reduction strategies and what to do in the case you do encounter a bear. There was a great discussion about bear spray and how to store and use it properly. It was a very informative interview, but we highly recommend you check out their website for information. They have some great "courses" preventing conflicts and living together with wild animals.

Had a great chat with Mike Harrison from Ontario about old school monster trucks and mudding! Mike restored the Big Bad & Bouncy monster truck, one of the first monster trucks in Canada. Jeepapalooza is a charity event on Vancouver Island BC that has raised over $175,000 for BC Cancer over the last 10 years. The event is held on the May long weekend and is open to all street legal 4x4's, not just Jeeps. The festival not only includes guided trail rides, but also live music, food and camping.

The Ontario Federation of 4 Wheel Drive recreationists (OF4WD) are a Provincial umbrella organization comprised of 4×4 clubs and individual members. Wes and Trisha had a chance to talk with 3 long standing members of the OF4WD. There was a variety of topics, including trail maintenance, newbie days, Camp NL, GMRS radio updates and more. Their mandate is to represent the interests of the 4×4 community and ensure the long term sustainability of 4 wheel drive recreation in the province of Ontario. They work to achieve this through user education, advocacy work and cooperative trail management and maintenance programs.

Did you know that there is an off road driving and recovery school in Ontario? We talked with Shaun and Cathy about the Get A Grip Driving School as well as the Storm Trooper Cruisers, who help nurses and doctors get to the hospitals in blizzards. Just a heads up, Shaun had a battle with cancer and his voice is a little different and sometimes hard to hear in this interview. However, it is worth listening to this interview. Alberta resident Don Frankish is one of monster truck pioneers in Canada. In this episode, we talk about how he started off truck and tractor pulling with his family, then moved into the monster truck world with his Maniac monster truck. When looking at the Instagram of Ryan Vanveen, the first thing you notice is his great eye for capturing incredible photographs. Then you notice other things like his love of forest fire lookouts, how much winter camping and outdoor sports he does and also his big campfires. What started out as a passion has lead them to creating a business specializing in Subaru and other crossover vehicles. Wes talks to Austen and Chase from Flat 4 Off Road in Calgary about how capable these vehicles are and how to modify them. We talk Subarus, Ford Bronco Sports and electric vehicles. In this interview, we talk with Kim Reeves, who has been the association president for over 13 years. Christian and Luke from Overland Nth sit down with Wes to talk about their overland festivals in Ontario. Their events are legendary for creating an enviroment and a community that values inclusivity, family, entertainment and enviromental stewardship while exploring the great outdoors. All three of their events are discussed in detail, as well as their involvement of the new overlanding hall at the March Sportsmand Show in Toronto. Towards the end, we discuss their new initiative, the Ultimate Overland Build charity. They will be raffling off a fully built overlanding rig, with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warriors organization.

Our guests today lead a very busy lifestyle. Dave and Leanna Davies from BC have a pair of 1600 horsepower mega trucks that they race all over Western Canada. They also own the 100 Mile Horsepower Ranch, which is a 150 acre off road motorsports park. In addition, Leanna is the president of the Northwest Mud Racing Association! Our guests today are Katrina and Liza from the Pawsativity 144 team. They recently finished the Rebelle Rally, an 8 day off road and orienteering event in the US desert. The event is widely known for empowering women and I found this pair of ladies to be truly inspiring. Honestly, I am not sure how to explain this conversation. We laughed a lot, they shared some deeper moments and there was a lot of advice about wheeling and life in general. Did you know that there is 4x4 racing in the Cariboo area of British Columbia? The Quesnel 4x4 Club hosts a variety of events, including Ultra 4 style and mud bogs. For me, this is one of the most interesting interviews I have done yet for the reason that I learned a lot. It started out with the fact that I need a new first aid kit and did not want one of those generic drug store kits. Thinking that I am not the only one that has questions about what I really need, I contacted Ken from www.wildmedkits.ca . In todays episode, Wes sits down and talks with long time friend and British Columbia off road racer Dale Nyeste. They talk about the good old days of distance racing and short course racing around Kamloops, as well as desert racing in the states. Dale reveals which he prefers and also compares them the the pavement sprint car racing he currently does.
I have to appologize for the sound quality on this episode. I did not notice until after it was recorded that there feedback on the mic. I have not had this issue before this interview or in the 2 interviews I did after. I spent 3 days searching how to fix it with no positive result. If you have any ideas, please let me know!

In this episode, we talk with Canadian off road racer Steve McCrossan about his recent second place finish at the NORRA Mexican 1000 desert race. A long time Ontario short course racer, McCrossan and his team recently made the move from their high tech Pro 4 short course truck to racing the Baja in a short wheelbase early Ford Bronco. We talk about the incredible atmosphere at the NORRA race as well as the differences between short course and desert racing.

Our guest in this episode, MikeTishken, drives his H2 Hummer all over British Columbia. People do not expect to see his H2 Hummer in the places he takes it, hence the name of Youtube channel, The Unexpected Off Road.
