Maitland's Hunter River has burst her mighty banks over 200 times since white settlement and records confirm 51 people have died as a result of Hunter River floods. 

This podcasts describes the devastation of these floods on Maitland, including the 1955 flood which was Australia's first natural disaster to make international headlines.

All aboard! Steamfest is Australia’s premier annual festival of steam trains. Tens of the thousands of people flock to Maitland’s Hunter Valley every year to experience the romance of train travel. This podcast tracks the history of the discovery of coal in Australia, to building the first railway line outside of Sydney, to the speed of the infamous steam locomotive the 3801 and the bone shaking reliability of the Red Rattlers.
