With two mass shootings in less than 24 hours — Saturday morning in El Paso, TX, and early Sunday morning in Dayton — have we reached a tipping point? Is the NRA still strong enough, can the mantra of "good guys with guns" still sound convincing, or has public opinion changed enough to make the President stop stoking hate and fear at his rallies, and stop blaming violent video games and mental health, and force the Senate to bring the House-passed bills to the floor?
Let's talk about gun control . . .
Climate Change, to me, is the most IMPORTANT of all our issues. Greta Thunberg's interview today on WBUR’s “Here and Now,” along with an important article in The Guardian, 25th of July, 2019, have inspired me to finally get around to thinking more in depth on this. Let’s talk about Impeachment, and consider if this still a Distraction, as Nancy Pelosi and moderate Democrats might argue, or is it Important — so important and so urgent that risking losing marginal Democratic seats in 2020, such as the Kansas-3rd District, where I live, or even, worst case, losing to Trump for a second term — the principle of Checks and Balances in our Constitution requires the Legislature — our House of Representatives — when dominated by the opposition, to hold the Executive to account for “high crimes and misdemeanors.” That is the position of Sen. Elizabeth Warren and about 40% of the House Democrats.
