Hear audio retrospectives on your favourite and lesser known SEGA musicians/composers with our new show "Individual". Each 2 hour episode features that person's musical history from their beginnings to recent/current fare.
WinterFest is here! This individual was kept a secret, making himself known the moment WinterFest began. This episode covering the history and music of Masanori Takeuchi is extra hot and heavy metal, and even sneaks in some recommendations for getting into early 2000's metal. There's a focus on the indivuals of SEGA's AM R&D Dept. #1 (AM1), including GOLDEN AXE -The Revenge of Death Adder-, SKY TARGET, DYNAMITE BASEBALL, Harley-Davidson & L.A. Riders, SEGA STRIKE FIGHTER and segaGT2002. Suddenly, the finale of Individual crept up on us! And it's technically a two-parter, with the American-focused Sonic the Hedgehog being made complete by locking on Sonic & Knuckles: a dive into pretty much every developer of the game. There are designers like Hirokazu Yasuhara and Takashi Iizuka, there are programmers like Yuji Naka and Masanobu Yamatomo, and there are artists like Kunitake Aoki, Takashi Thomas Yuuda and Satoshi Yokokawa.Beyond that, all 8 contributors from the SEGA SOUND TEAM are covered, more on the surface level and their Sonic 3&K contributions, and there's 2 more obscure sound teams once get past Knuckles: CUBE, who made some possibly unused music, and USP, who made the MIDI arrangements in Sonic & Knuckles Collection.Chapters:00:00:00 - Introduction to Individual00:00:19 - 2P Competition Medley00:04:51 - Talk 1 “Game Designers”00:08:16 - Talk 1 - Sega Technical Institute?00:09:00 - Talk 1 - Hirokazu Yasuhara00:10:43 - Talk 1 - Hisayoshi Yoshida00:11:16 - Talk 1 - Takashi Iizuka00:14:46 - Sonic & Knuckles Collection - Angel Island (FM? and YPG-235)00:18:07 - GUNVALKYRIE - The pandemonium00:19:52 - Talk 2 “Programmers”00:21:00 - Talk 2 - Yuji Naka00:23:53 - Talk 2 - Hiroshi Nikaidoh & Takahiro Hamano00:25:02 - Talk 2 - Masanobu Yamamoto00:25:42 - Talk 2 - Adrian Stephens00:27:11 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - STH2 Casino Night Zone (2P) ~ Mega Drive version ~00:28:38 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Special Stage00:30:50 - Sonic Adventure - Pleasure Castle …for Twinkle Park00:32:22 - Talk 3 “Artists”00:33:13 - Talk 3 - Kunitake Aoki00:34:33 - Talk 3 - Takashi Thomas Yuuda00:36:10 - Talk 3 - Satoshi Yokokawa00:36:54 - Talk 3 - Chie Yoshida00:38:29 - Talk 3 - Tsuneko Aoki00:39:06 - Talk 3 - Shigeru Okada00:40:05 - Talk 3 - Osamu Ohashi00:41:11 - Talk 3 - Jina Ishiwatari00:42:36 - Magic Knight Rayearth - Dancing Girl00:44:04 - Panic! - Jagajogo00:45:36 - Carnival Night Zone - Act 2 (requested by Jamie)00:47:29 - Talk 4 “SST1”00:49:11 - Talk 4 - Bo00:50:43 - Talk 4 - Sachio Ogawa00:54:17 - Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse [Master System] - Toyland00:55:56 - Sonic & Knuckles - Robotnik's Theme00:57:06 - SEGA Bass Fishing - Fight 300:59:38 - Talk 5 “SST2”01:00:46 - Talk 5 - MILPO01:03:35 - Talk 5 - Masaru Setsumaru01:05:38 - Dream Passport 2 - Main Menu01:07:21 - OLIO2 - Shines on the Grassland01:11:54 - Talk 6 “SST3”01:12:40 - Talk 6 - Tatsuyuki Maeda01:13:58 - Talk 6 - Tomonori Sawada01:16:53 - Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island - Gene Gadget Zone Act 101:20:21 - Sonic & Knuckles - Mushroom Hill: Alternate Cue01:21:47 - Golden Axe III - The Scorching Sand01:24:20 - Talk 6 “SST4”01:25:12 - Talk 6 - Masayuki Nagao01:26:56 - Talk 6 - Jun Senoue01:29:38 - Talk 6 - SYAVLIENA & Jr.01:32:20 - Sonic Drift 2 - Sonic 3-related Medley01:34:06 - Formula One World Championship, Beyond the Limit - Time To Detonate01:36:29 - Talk 7 “CUBE”01:38:06 - Talk 7 - Hisaki Nimiya01:39:46 - Talk 7 - Masanori Takeuchi & CUBE in General01:41:25 - Talk 7 - Miyoko Takoka (nee Kobayashi)01:42:28 - Talk 7 - Sonic Pocket Adventure01:43:41 - Talk 7 - The Marble Garden Conspiracy01:44:55 - Talk 7 - Masanori Nakayama (STUDIO WHO)01:46:45 - Terranigma - Dark Side Field01:49:07 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Knuckles' ~ Launch Base Zone - Act 1 (prototype)01:51:42 - Talk 8 “USP”01:52:35 - Talk 8 - Introduction to Sonic & Knuckles Collection01:53:52 - Talk 8 - Sonic the Hedgehog The Screen Saver01:55:26 - Talk 8 - Shigeaki Irie01:58:20 - Talk 8 - Masaaki Nishizawa01:59:36 - Talk 8 - Goro Takahashi02:00:51 - Talk 8 - SEGA-side Help02:02:40 - Sonic & Knuckles Collection - Flying Battery: Alternate Cue (FM & MIDI ver)02:04:43 - Tokimeki Memorial MIDI collection - Go For It, Cultman! ~Cultman's Theme~02:07:13 - MIDI POWER Pro 3 ~Policenauts~ - GIRL02:10:28 - Sonic & Knuckles Collection - IceCap(YPG-235) (requested02:12:29 - Talk 9 “The End”02:13:59 - Talk 9 - Thank YOU! A special request from listener Jamie caps off Americans month. We're talking about one little game, but it was written like 1 really big game, but RadioSEGA imitates SEGA, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles has been split into the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 episode and the Sonic & Knuckles episode. This first episode covers every American musician involved with the game, from the figurehead Michael Jackson, to the real chief Brad Buxer, to the assorted composers Bobby Brooks, Darryl Ross, Geoff Grace, Doug Grigsby III, Cirocco, and even Mayumi Nina Sakazaki. Yes, we'll be talking about the many times it was confirmed Michael composed music, how the Sonic 3 songs were influenced by earlier works or influenced later works, the Sonic Retro community's sleuthing on the subjects, and more. There's music to be heard from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but for the most part, the music offers a glimpse into the musicians 90's pop and R&B music, ripped off the world of YouTube.Chapters:00:00:00 - Introduction to Individual00:01:05 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Miniboss00:03:09 - JX - Ice Cap Zone - Sonic The Hedgehog 3【Sonic Advance Style】00:05:30 - Talk 1 - “Another Michael Jackson Conspiracy”00:08:11 - Talk 1 - Howard Drossin and the Mystery00:10:12 - Talk 1 - Michael's SEGA HIStory00:12:48 - Talk 1 - Are his Beatboxing Samples in Sonic 3?00:14:05 - Talk 1 - His Buddy Brad00:15:15 - Talk 1 - 41 Cues00:16:05 - Talk 1 - Uncredited Jackson00:19:38 - Michael Jackson's Moonwalker [Mega Drive] - Round 4 - Cavern (Billie Jean)00:22:30 - Yuzoboy - Stranger In Moscow(Sonic 3 Ending Remix)00:25:55 - Talk 2 - “What Did Brad Do?”00:27:01 - Talk 2 - Brad Buxer's HIStory and Colleagues00:30:31 - Talk 2 - The HIStory of Stranger in Moscow00:33:31 - Talk 2 - Hard Times HIStory00:34:42 - Talk 2 - Brad and Michael's Process00:36:07 - The Complete Jetzons - 4-3-100:40:14 - Will You Be There (Theme from "Free Willy")00:45:49 - Talk 3 - “Bobby & Darryl00:48:02 - Talk 3 - bobby brooks' history00:50:57 - Talk 3 - bobby brooks and sonic the hedgehog 300:51:42 - Talk 3 - Darryl Ross' HIStory00:52:59 - Talk 3 - Darryl Ross and Sonic the Hedge Hog 300:55:08 - Carnival Night Zone - Act 200:57:18 - I Want You (The Funk You Up 12" Extended Mix)01:02:07 - Sticks And Stones (Single Edit)01:04:57 - Talk 4 - “Grace & Grigsby”01:05:46 - Talk 4 - Geoff Grace's HIStory01:07:30 - Talk 4 - Geoff Grace and Sonic the Hedgehog 301:08:23 - Talk 4 - Doug Grigsby's HIStory01:10:09 - Talk 4 - Doug Grigsby and Sonic The Hedge Hog 301:11:54 - Second Chance / Tyler Collins01:14:38 - BLOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR/ HIStory In The Mix - Ghosts01:18:19 - Talk 5 - “Water on the Roccs”01:19:17 - Talk 5 - Cirocco's HIStory01:20:26 - Talk 5 - Cirocco and Sonic the Hedgehog 301:21:52 - Talk 5 - Mayumi Nina Sakazaki's Memories of Michael Jackson01:22:45 - Talk 5 - The Timeline01:26:55 - Slang - Slang01:29:49 - Da Me La (Fama) (Radio Edit)01:33:22 - Happiness - Foreign Sand01:40:04 - Teena Marie - Warm As Momma's Oven01:45:15 - Any Time, Any Place01:49:00 - Talk 6 - The End01:50:17 - Talk 6 - Thank YOU! The third episode in Individual's Americans Month covers Howard Drossin's history, some of which you can hear from the Howard's month on a pair of The SEGA Lounge episodes from 2020. This episode should give the third-person view of his years as a touring guitarist, how he entered SEGA Technical Institute and where the department, and his career as a SEGA of America employee, ended in 1996. Explicit warning! Your problem, not mine. The second individual of Americans Month is Andy Armer, who more people should talk about. When the music you can play is mostly from albums, 4 to 6 minutes each, it becomes a very musical episode. Arguably, Koichi Namiki in a post-SEGA world is more of a multimedia composer than a video game composer, but he's still getting there. Hmm, why does this episode look so much shorter than the ones before it? Because it's pre-recorded again! Internet issues and all that. The second Saturday show. It will not become the standard. Panzer Dragoon Saga also fiddled with conventions, specifically for RPGs, but lead composer Saori Kobayashi has roots in that convention, namely Sylvan Tale for the Game Gear. The 3rd year of Individual introduces themed months, starting with the sound designers who dominated the 80's. The special episode that kicks off RadioCAPCOM (already defunct) was won by Tetsuya Shibata with Ravsieg's many facts! An experimental episode of Individual, we're going truly LiVE with RoBKTA! No amount of trimming could prepare Nicolaas Hamman for the shenanigans he'd incite, but this 3-hour show still goes Club Needlemouse, OutRax, The Invincible EP and more!
It's not LiVE like planned, but maybe that's a good thing, because this complete look at Chikako Kamatani's history is very tight. With a heap of Master System PSG and a couple post-SEGA works like Pinobee and Love and Berry, this episode has talks and music of AZTEC ADVENTURE, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, PYRAMID MAGIC and more!
