In this podcast episode, we have the ray of sunshine in the building, the one and only Jess Murray. Jess Murray is a Tasmanian filmmaker and illustrator. Jess often tells comedic or surreal stories with the use of unique and colourful characters. These might include: cowboys, cute dogs, and grown men dressed as moths.

Her most notable project, Moments of Clarity, started as a comic strip illustrated by Jess and written by comedian, Tim Logan. It has recently been adapted into a short form animated series with the help of Tasmanian animation studio, Blue Rocket. Popular Australian comedians feature as voices in the series, including Luke McGregor (Rosehaven) and Gen Fricker (Triple J Radio).

Our conversations explore her creative illustration success and paid animation internship from Princess Bento in Melbourne. We talk about how she kick start her career through successfully winning this new series with Screenworks’ Discovering New Voices and showcase her exciting enthusiasm to participate in the Adult Animation initiative.

We cover topics of her personal and creative growth after graduating AFTRS in 2020 and participating in a 100 day drawing challenge.
