Insights into Success has been created to give small business owners and entrepreneurs around the world, never before access to successful business people to hear about their "warts and all" journey to success. There is no "sugar coating", we want to hear the truth so our listeners can have realistic expectations and therefore be better prepared to succeed! We specifically want to know, just how close they came to failure and why they think they ultimately succeeded. What do they think our listeners need to do in order to succeed? As part of the series, we also feature the theme "Read to Succeed", a short podcast where we ask those successful business people that are readers, whether they read a book that had a meaningful impact on their journey to success. What was it? What was it about and what were the key "takeaways" for them. It need not be a business book, but a book that made a difference. Not all successful people are readers but many are. Reading is a great way to up-skill yourself and learn from the experiences of others! Insights into Success is brought to you by Making Sense of Marketing where we take a "holistic" approach. In order to help solve our followers marketing problems. We recognize the importance of helping them in other ways, which can ultimately impact on their success with marketing. Insights into Success is one of the many resources we have created to help small business owners all around the world. By learning from those that have already succeeded, we hope to help our follower’s shortcut their own journey to success. At Making Sense of Marketing, the feedback we receive from small business owners, is they perceive that they have a shortage of time as they look to juggle their responsibilities. Everyone can spare 15 minutes - right? If you can't listen to the podcast all at once, no bother, just listen to what you have time for (at least 15 minutes) and come back to hear the rest! You don't want to miss out on all the great content! We want no excuses, just results for our followers! With our Read to Succeed, they will typically be around 5 to 10 minutes.

Today Brenden Kumarasamy from MasterTalk shares a book that he recommends reading.
In this interview Brenden confesses to not reading much, preferring to learn via podcasts, but there is one book in particular that has had an everlasting impact on his life.
Brenden has become a master in communication through necessity. Growing up in Montreal, going to a French speaking school while your first language is English was a challenge for Brenden. His communication skills were not great.
At University, life was a bit easier studying in English, but he had come to realise just how important communication was. While others were out playing sports or attending other social activities, Brenden got involved in the world of competitive presentations. He had come to realise that those that were getting the best jobs, were the best communicators. Being great at communicating had become his passion.
Graduating with an accountancy degree, Brenden came to realise that being an accountant was not for him, rather his passion was to become a communications expert. MasterTalk was formed!

Looking back now, it is hard to imagine the early days of the internet and the opportunities that existed.
Back in the early 2,000's Phil Fraser had no idea how significant the internet was going to become. Initially he thought about setting up an online Bingo platform in the UK, but found his timing too early. Instead he turned his attention to building a website to list Bingo websites around the world. It was initially a hobby, but it turned into so much more as he rode the internet wave, selling out about 18 years later for a very large amount of money.
In this interview, Phil talks about two books that have had a significant impact on his business career.

Victoria Lee has created a successful digital media business with staff working remotely around the UK. How has she done it?
Victoria attributes a key influence for her has been reading the Basecamp book "It Doesn't Have to Be Crazy at Work". Her remote working business has gone from strength to strength as it adopted a lot of philosophies extolled in the book.
What was the book about and what were the key takeaways for Victoria?
Victoria Lee is the successful co-founder of a social media agency 100 Pound Social located in the UK.
www.msofmarketing.com
Due to a childhood accident Victoria Lee found herself often in pain at work and needing major back surgery. She needed a change. A job with flexibility that would allow her to work around her back issues. An opportunity came her way to manage a small social media account. Not enough to sustain her, it was nonetheless a start. Teaming up with a friend, they started a social media business which was to become known as 100 Pound Social.
About 4 years later, 200 plus clients and a team of over 20, 100 Pound Social is a thriving business.
Through adversity and the need for a change, Victoria found an opportunity, which has lead to the creation of a successful business. Victoria's story is a great example of how your outcomes in life will be determined by how you interpret events. Only see the negative in a situation, then you may only get negative outcomes. See the same situation through positive eyes, then opportunities will begin to appear.
Victoria shares her inspirational story on how she has found success through adversity!

With her goal to go to Harvard not forgotten, Christine applied and was accepted to the Harvard MBA programme.
Christine has forged a career over nearly 30 years in the corporate world as a negotiator, negotiating deals with companies around the world, including dealing with the majority of the Fortune 500 companies in the US. Terry Dry has had an outstanding career so far. Before anyone knew what Social Media marketing was, in the late nineties, Terry co-founded Fanscape one of the very first Social Media marketing agencies. With a background in the music industry, Terry identified an opportunity to help bands connect and sell to their fan base. Fanscape grew quickly and caught the attention of VC capitalists. They also caught the attention of Fortune 500 companies who were impressed with what they were doing and wanted them to help with their marketing in this new frontier.
Ultimately Terry and his partner sold Fanscape to Omincom for a eight figure sum. Terry stayed on to run the company under the new ownership, seeing the company continue to grow at an outstanding rate. Ultimately, with his entrepreneurial spirit still strong, Terry elected to create the Future Proof Advisors, where he splits his time between helping other companies grow and his own projects. One of Terry's more recent projects RSVD was recently sold.
