In this deeply moving episode of Radiate Realness, host Geraldine McGrath welcomes Miriam Moriarty Owens, a survivor of Ireland’s industrial school system. Miriam bravely shares her harrowing journey, from enduring years of institutional abuse to reclaiming her voice and identity.
Born in 1957, Miriam was placed in Nazareth House in Tralee, where she spent nearly 12 years experiencing the harsh realities of an industrial school. Stripped of her name and reduced to a number, she grew up in an environment devoid of love and care. At 14 years old, she left the institution and began working in Denny’s Bacon Factory. A new chapter unfolded when she moved to London in 1979, where she found kindness, met her husband, and built a family.
Throughout her life, Miriam has faced immense hardship, domestic abuse, the impact of intergenerational trauma, and the battle for justice and acknowledgment. But her story is not just one of pain; it is one of resilience, transformation, and purpose. From becoming a grandmother and going back to college to writing her autobiography and producing a film on domestic violence, Miriam has turned her pain into power.
Her mission is clear: to ensure survivors’ voices are heard, their stories are honored, and the past is not forgotten. She continues to advocate for those who have suffered in silence, proving that healing and hope are possible.

In this deeply inspiring episode, I sit down with Tovè as she takes us through her incredible journey of resilience, transformation, and self-discovery.
We dive into her story, starting with her intense training for the Iron Man, and the life-altering moment when her heart unexpectedly stopped.
This event marked a dramatic turning point in Tovè’s life, reigniting a period of depression that had first appeared many years earlier, after a complete breakdown of her life.
Tovè opens up about how the depression resurfaced following the heart incident, taking her back to the emotional struggles she faced years before.
She shares the journey of working through these deep emotions while finding strength in the face of immense change.
In addition, Tovè discusses the profound grief of losing her mum unexpectedly while she was on holiday in Australia, and how this loss became another pivotal moment in her life.
She speaks with raw vulnerability about navigating grief and honoring her mum’s memory while continuing to move forward.
We also explore her experience with menopause, discussing the often-overlooked aspects of this transformative phase of life and the unexpected beauty that comes with it.
Tovè reveals how she shifted her perspective, learning to let go of things she once worked tirelessly for, and the liberating power of no longer giving a FOG about societal expectations.
As we wrap up the episode, Tovè introduces us to “laugh therapy”, a simple yet powerful technique to release stress and boost your mood. This fun, uplifting practice can be easily integrated into your daily routine, making it a perfect tool for embracing joy and living authentically.

A Journey from Emotional Pain to Emotional Freedom, A Personal Journey of Healing In this episode.
I share a deeply personal reflection on my journey from emotional pain to emotional freedom, inspired by a moment of contemplation while watching my daughter during her swimming lessons. On World Mental Health Day, I feel called to speak from my heart about the emotional pain I’ve carried, the trauma I’ve unconsciously lived with, and the weight of perfectionism that shaped much of my life.
There were many days when the burden felt too heavy to bear, and I considered turning to medical help. But something inside me resisted the pharmaceutical path. I craved something deeper, something that could lead to lasting emotional stability and true freedom. And so began my inward journey.
Over the years, I’ve been blessed with supportive people and a group of powerful women practicing healing modalities that have nurtured my growth. But the greatest lesson I’ve learned is this: no matter how supportive your circle is, true change must come from within.
In this episode, I discuss the struggles, the isolation, and the deep inner work that helped me uncover strength I never knew I had. I talk about the importance of healing, how we all carry trauma, often unconsciously, and how reconnecting with your inner child can lead to profound transformation.
I also share an analogy: our current system is like being thrown into a swimming pool, expected to swim without any instructors. We’re left to struggle, without the education and tools of emotional intelligence, emotional regulation, anti-fragility, trauma awareness to help us stay afloat. This makes the journey harder and longer than it needs to be.
The truth is, emotional pain will always be part of life, but so is emotional freedom. It’s a journey, not a destination. The power to heal is within each of us.
Join me as I share my story and offer hope to those who are still carrying the weight of emotional pain. Together, we can all find our own pathways to emotional freedom.

Jenna Hastie, a beacon of resilience and transformative healing, began her nursing journey in 2003 at Glasgow Caledonian University, where her passion ignited. Her career, a testament to love and dedication, reached its pinnacle as a trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner in a General Practice, surrounded by an extraordinary team and appreciative patients.
Jenna Hastie's personal journey, a poignant tale of resilience, began in 2012 when mystery symptoms of fatigue, brain fog, lethargy, and migraines took hold. Despite seeking answers, doctors dismissed these concerns, attributing them to the challenges of motherhood. It wasn't until 2016, during her stint as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner, that Jenna finally received diagnoses of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia.
Navigating a demanding career, Jenna faced the relentless impact of these conditions. In 2019, while working in primary care as a trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner, she received the diagnosis of axial spondyloarthritis. The conventional treatments offered little solace, prompting Jenna to forge a unique path to healing, a journey that would lead her to profound self-discovery and transformation.
Her narrative takes a harrowing turn as she confronts the limitations of Western medicine, enduring the side effects of medications and the toll on her body. In the face of debilitating illness, Jenna contemplated the unthinkable but found strength in love and a flicker of hope. A profound shift occurred as she embraced the power of mindset and neuroscience, rewiring her brain and envisioning a life beyond the confines of illness.
Jenna's journey of self-healing seamlessly merged her extensive medical knowledge with neuroscience, ancient wisdom, and spiritual practices. The resulting 3D healing method, a holistic approach addressing the mind, body, and soul, became her lifeline. As she untangled the intricate connections between thoughts, emotions, and well-being, Jenna experienced a remarkable transformation. Her journey to remission, medication-free and pain-free, defied the expectations of a chronic and progressive autoimmune disease.
Emerged from the depths of despair, Jenna's newfound purpose extends beyond hospital walls. Her calling transcends the confines of a medical profession, reaching into the shadows of chronic illness to guide others on their path of healing and transformation. The 3D healing method, rooted in the understanding of limiting beliefs, nutritional imbalances, chronic stress, and the soul's dimensions, offers a beacon of hope.
Transitioning from the conventional path, Jenna embarked on a profound mission—to unravel the mysteries of autoimmune and chronic diseases. With a keen focus on hidden triggers often overlooked by Western medicine, she delved into the complexities of conditions like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Jenna's expertise extended beyond fixed or irreversible root causes, exploring the enigma that eludes conventional understanding.
Jenna invites others to recognize the immense power within—the power to paint a masterpiece of resilience and strength on the canvas of past experiences. Her message resonates: the journey of healing involves synchronising the dimensions of being—mind, body, and soul. With unwavering conviction, Jenna implores individuals to embrace their ability to transform pain into power and challenges into catalysts for growth.
In the radiant light of Jenna Hastie's journey, she stands as a testament to the inherent power within each individual—a power to heal, to transform, and to illuminate the path to a brighter reality.
"Unleashing an Unstoppable Vision: How We Created the 'Unstoppable Stories Anthology' in Just 4 Months" Unleashing an Unstoppable Vision: How we Created the “Unstoppable Stories Anthology” in just 4 Months.
In September 2023, a pivotal moment arrived when my podcast, "Radiate Realness," won the “Outstanding Podcaster of the Year” award on World Suicide Prevention Day. I dedicated it to those lost to suicide, reinforcing the podcast's mission to spark vital conversations on the subject.
Motivated to deepen my impact, I envisioned an anthology titled "Unstoppable Stories," composed of narratives from twenty-five inspiring women, with royalties supporting suicide prevention education.
A productive October 2024 meeting with my publisher set a deadline to bring these powerful women together, aiming for a meaningful pre-release at Crom Castle, Ireland.
This venture taught me the importance of valuing all connections, for their future potential is boundless.
Alignment was key, the contributors needed to share a heartfelt energetic connection with myself and the anthology's mission. The project was a merging of inspired thoughts, intention, discipline, and focused action.
"Unstoppable Stories" is now a reality, an International Best Selling Anthology, featuring twenty- five powerful narratives and special chapters, with all royalties contributing to the fight against suicide. It's a testimony to collective strength and the enduring impact of shared visions.

Struggling to Breathe: The Diary of a Psychiatric In-Patient
After achieving high academic success, Niamh Brownlee became a primary school teacher, first in Kent then back home in Belfast. But all was not well. Gradually, Niamh became more and more depressed until reaching the point where she just wanted to die.
At the age of 24, she was admitted to hospital. Although at rock bottom mentally, she had the presence of mind to keep a diary of the 31 days she spent in two psychiatric hospitals in Northern Ireland. This helped her survive and begin the tentative process of recovery.
Five years later, Niamh has decided to share her diary of those days in the hope that others will feel less alone and come to believe that recovery is possible, and help is out there.
Her diary is also instructive for those who provide mental health services. It gives a rare insight into psychiatric in-patient experience and is a plea to improve the quality of care.
Niamh’s diary is a raw account of feeling utterly worthless, but ultimately it is a diary of discovery and hope.
Marnie, a dedicated personal trainer, and special needs support worker is in a loving relationship with her partner, Matthew. Together, they share three wonderful boys and a precious new baby girl. Marnie's life has been deeply shaped by her passion for supporting those who have faced the challenges of suicide and sibling loss. Now, Marnie is eager to share the transformative practices she has embraced, including meditation, grounding, skycology, and cold therapy. Her mission is to inspire, assist, and in-still hope in others who have endured similar trauma.
Having overcome life events which would have broken many, Maura’s risen through mental health battles with resilience, and now lives for today, receiving standing ovations for her motivational speaking, has people crying with laughter with her standup, has bared all on Channel 4’s Naked Education to talk Menopause, and regularly wins awards as an inspirational charity CEO.

The stage show will be no different with lots of special guests on the night and some of our best bits.” Breeda continues: “The three of us embody what it is to live life to the full and not to ever care about any negative judgment. We have recently completed our first cookbook with a difference and now we are delighted to bring a night of good craic to Siamsa Tíre. We can’t wait and it is lovely to do this on the night of Women’s Little Christmas. Anything could happen on stage! Áine simply states: “Ye better watch out, especially Miriam.” Tickets for Johnny’s Cottage, A Hooley in the Kitchen are on sale now from the Siamsa Tíre box office by calling 066 7123055 or online by visiting siamsatire.com with the show starting at 8pm on Saturday January 6th, 2024. https://www.facebook.com/johnnysCottage
What is your word for 2024? In 2021, my word for the year was AUTHENTICITY… I thought it was going to be a beautiful, smooth year… which didn’t go exactly to plan! When I started to step into my authenticity, I realised my biggest problem was that I was a huge people pleaser, and it was creating a lot of conflict within me. As a result of stepping into my authenticity, 2021 was a huge year of personal and spiritual growth. In 2022, my word for the year was RADIATE… After going through the journey of developing my authenticity, I was ready to radiate through the world and be truly 110% myself. This is where the podcast name “Radiate Realness” came about. Again, another year of huge growth. This year, I set the word LEAP… It just so happens that the Chinese Zodiac sign this year was a rabbit! 2023 has been all about moving outside of my comfort zone and putting myself in scary situations. And this has put rocket fuel on my business this year!! From the creation of Radiate Realness to an Award-Winning Podcast!! Next year, my word for 2024 is going to be ???? Join me this Thursday 14th December at 9pm for my FREE Gathering Circle at 9pm, follow the link below https://geraldine-mcgrath.mykajabi.com/free-masterclass-word2024 And I just know it’s going to be the biggest year yet. 2024 is the year of the dragon. So, I’m going to be scooping in places where angels can’t reach! I will be jumping out and spreading some serious fire in the world!! Watch this space… I’d love to know, what word are you setting yourself for next year?
Married with a wonderful family, including two teenage girls and a lively two-year-and-six-month-old boy, I've called Ireland home for nearly 18 years. Armed with a master's degree in clinical psychology and another in computer science, my wife and I navigated a unique career path in Ireland. Initially, we worked odd jobs—construction for me and a shop counter for her. Education became our bridge to career change, with me completing computer science and her transitioning to become a head of accounts. In 2014, my entrepreneurial journey truly began with the launch of the Eckomarket platform, evolving into the current UTender.ie.
In 2015, an idea emerged during a chat, leading to the birth of the Bid Wars project. Despite setbacks, including personal hardships and a temporary pause, the vision persisted. In 2018, facing new challenges, my wife and I invested in education and ventured into a cleaning contract. This marked the beginning of ALOHA Mental Arithmetic, a program teaching kids valuable skills.
The journey continued in 2019 with Service Wars evolving into UTender. By 2020, UTender V1 was launched, and in 2021, the platform went live in Ireland, the UK, and Romania. Amid ups and downs, 2022 brought a near-death experience with a server crash, leading to a bold decision to rebuild UTender from scratch. In 2023, UTender emerged stronger, ready to explore new horizons.
Currently, as the founder and CEO of UTender.ie and Whatswhat.ie, my mission is to shape UTender into a global lead generation platform while supporting businesses through Whatswhat.ie in navigating the modern business landscape. The journey is ongoing, and the goal is to unlock new possibilities for businesses worldwide.
Vicky Blades is on an Unstoppable mission to show women how to speak up, stand out and be heard! By finding their authentic voice and developing the confidence to step powerfully into the spotlight and take centre stage; at work, in life, and in business.
For too long women have been conditioned to stay small, quiet, invisible and to spend their energy caring for others, whilst neglecting themselves. For too long women and girls have been the secret-keepers - historically, socially, generationally - we have been tasked with keeping silent to stay safe. But to what cost? It’s time we challenge this narrative and break out so that we can change the world!
Using her 20 years experience as a professional actress, coupled with co-active coaching techniques, Vicky looks at the hiding habits of brilliant women like you, and invites you to discover (and smash) your visibility blocks. You will finally access your authentic voice, learn how to step into your power, and play big. Whether on camera, on stage or in writing, it is vital that you share your story and your wisdom!
Vicky is a Communications Coach focusing on Voice, Video and Visibility. She has been a professional actress for 20 years and has worked as a trainer and workshop facilitator for even longer. It's truly special to commemorate this milestone, especially with Radiate Realness being named a 'Finalist' in "The Outstanding Achievement Awards" set to take place in a Castle in Dublin this September 2023. If you've found value in Radiate Realness and enjoyed our episodes, I would greatly appreciate your support through voting. Please follow the link below, select the 'Podcasting' category, and leave your message. Your participation means the world to us. Link to Vote is below https://makeithappenseminar.com/awards This past year has been an incredible journey around the sun and around the world with the Radiate Realness Podcast. Alongside our amazing guests, we've engaged in hours of meaningful, authentic, and unfiltered conversations, sharing the profound gift of vulnerability. Each week, we've tackled crucial topics surrounding mental health and suicide prevention. It's important to note that every one of our guests has been personally touched, either directly or indirectly, by these issues. Radiate Realness has provided a safe haven for them to share deeply personal experiences, empowering our listeners. For some, it was their first time sharing their stories, and that's truly magical. To mark this remarkable one-year anniversary of Radiate Realness, I've created a special solo episode. In it, I'll take you on a journey, revealing my personal path and how my habits and behaviors kept this podcast as a mere vision in my mind for nearly two years. While I had it all planned mentally, my own habits and behaviors prevented it from becoming a reality. If you're feeling stuck in your personal life or business, where you have a vision or change you desire but it's been confined to your thoughts, held back by habits and behaviors, then this episode is a must-listen. You'll discover how Radiate Realness transformed from a stagnant idea to a vibrant reality in "A Journey from Stuck to Unstoppable." In the early days, Radiate Realness shone a spotlight from being a personal project to becoming the "People's Podcast," receiving heartwarming messages and feedback about its positive impact on people's lives. I invite you to enjoy this solo episode, and I'm eagerly anticipating what lies ahead in series two of Radiate Realness! I extend my heartfelt gratitude in advance for your support and kind words. You can vote to help us create an "Award-Winning Podcast" in September 2023 at the Castle in Dublin. Early on in her career as an ICU Registered Nurse, Avery noticed that the majority of the reasons her patients found themselves in the ICU were because of illnesses and diseases that could be linked to chronic stress.
She made the decision to get out of the reactive side of medicine in 2015 and started building her business to help high achievers prevent and reverse the negative health effects of stress. Despite practicing what the research showed was effective, Avery experienced a significant episode of burnt out at the end of 2018 and this has left her with a chronic illness and disability. Frustrated that she was "doing everything right" and it still didn't prevent burnout, Avery dove back into the research and looked more carefully at her own habits and beliefs and found the missing pieces of the puzzle to truly prevent burnout.

A tribute to my Dearest Late Sister Natalia, Magdalena wrote these beautiful words below on Natalia’s 6 month anniversary,
Six months ago my heart stopped, it's never been beating the same again... half of it died together with you, although time passes the pain will remain... Not a second goes by without thinking of you, the tears are running down if only I knew... even though it's hard and my heart hurts, I'll get up every day and put a smile on my face! Coz I know you're beside me and counting on me, to be happy again and not giving in. I think of the day when I'll see you again, you'll be there you'll smile and reach out your hand... it will be my last...but there'll be no more pain... 💔💔💔

Are you running from ‘Yourself’?
Are you feeling frustrated, impatient, the need to know exactly what direction your journey in life will take?
One of the greatest habits and behaviours to keep us running from ourselves is ‘Procrastination’. It’s the best distraction, very effective on keeping your emotions suppressed so you can carry on throughout with a false sense of security.
Why do we run away from ourselves?
There will come a day where you can no longer hide from your true self.
Ask yourself where are you running too?
Are you ready to start enjoying your journey of life?

Hi, my name’s Hayley and I’m 36 years of age I have suffered from multiple sclerosis since the age of 13. I was diagnosed in April year 2000. Originally from Manchester, England I now live in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. I moved over here about 12 years ago and live with my partner and my daughter whose 4 and a half years of age. I’m really quite an outgoing person I love life I love enjoying myself going out with friends and just try to make the most out of every day.
Multiple sclerosis challenges me every single day. I have had a tough past year or so from my last relapse and now find myself after 22 years of living with the disease I’ve had to turn to many mobility aids to keep going each day I use predominantly a wheelchair whilst I’m out and about due to my right leg becoming so weak and incredibly painful. My right arm is also affected by the same weakness and pain. I don’t mind using mobility aids however I feel sometimes I have an identity crisis occasionally.

Meet Yourself at Your Level and Take It Step by Step
We are all hard-wired as humans to compare it is a normal part of human cognition. However, comparison can be useful but also can be very harmful. Too much comparison leads to unhappiness low self-esteem frustration and anger toward others.
Are you stuck in comparison mode, maybe you are? Compare yourself to be inspired and to work towards your next level or are you comparing yourself that is making you feel unworthy, contributing to your limiting beliefs, and causing a great deal of self-sabotage?
How are you with self-reflection when you look in the mirror? Deep into yourself, does it feel uncomfortable and all you are willing to develop?

Unstoppable Intentions, my New Year Edition, and the first solo episode of 2023. Sending my best wishes to you all for a happy, healthy & prosperous 2023.
For the last number of years, I’ve created vision boards and worked on goal setting. It’s so interesting to reflect back and see how my journey around these areas has grown & flourished.
However, it’s also interesting looking back to identify the gaps and misalignment with my vision boards and goal setting. That’s okay for me to now acknowledge, it’s a journey and the biggest step of that journey was starting the process of creating vision boards and goals.
The four areas I have shared in this New Year Edition episode is,
Are your plans, visions, goals, dreams all in alignment for the year ahead.
What is blocking you, causing resistance, holding you back?
In ‘Oprah’s’ words, “Lean into your dreams”.

I’m Sharon, Owner of LinkedIn Elite Limited
I’m sweary, menopausal, and proud to be Irish (the best country in the world!)
So how did I get to this point in my life?
I started in business in June 2019 as a Virtual Assistant after a looooong career in admin/office management
As a VA, I quickly realised that my ideal client was on LinkedIn and I needed to familiarise myself with the platform
Actually what happened was – I fell in love with it
Now I coach small business owners just like me, in all things LinkedIn, along with managing accounts on their behalf if they are time-poor (or just can’t be arsed!)
I’m on a mission to challenge LinkedIn by rewriting the rules and revolutionising how people feel about and use the platform
I want people to fall in love with it just as I have
I encourage my clients to speak from their hearts, be true to themselves, and above all, have FUN!
I believe that every single business has a right to be on LinkedIn without judgment or feeling inferior

When I first became a suicide prevention trainer in 2019 my body froze. How could I possibly ask somebody that question? That question was the most significant key takeaway I took from an intensive week of training. Suicide needs to be spoken about. Do not be shy to learn about these topics, or to ask questions, the stigma, needs to be broken, and it's not healthy.
Let's talk statistics. The latest figures for the UK show that we had 6199 Confirm suicides. If we look at this figure closely, we are losing almost 17 people every day to suicide. And this is not including on reported suicides, which can increase this figure by five to 25%.
Locally here in Northern Ireland in 2016 77% of suicide rates while young people aged from 15 just 25 years old, why so many of our young people you may be asking?
What beliefs are you willing to let go of? And are you going to be part of this change? This change where we learn to drop the stigma of suicide and start to help so many more people?
How many of your thoughts have helped you throughout today? How many of your thoughts have hindered you?
In this episode, we're going to be looking at how our thoughts become our reality. Is your mind unsettled? Are you giving your mind enough space?
What are your thought habits like, we really have to take into consideration that each and every day, we have 70 to 80,000 thoughts cross our minds, those thoughts are like clouds, they can just cross our minds?
If you don't take control, they will be in control. So it's so important that you become the captain of your own ship.
It's really important to have some self-acceptance that when you start this process, it's not just going to erase all of those negative thought patterns, all of those faults that you are really attaching to yourself.
