Passage: John 1:43-51
43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.”
44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. 45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
46 “Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked.
“Come and see,” said Philip.
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
48 “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.
Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
49 Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
50 Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” 51 He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”

Passage: Song of Songs 8
Chapter 8
She
1 Oh that you were like a brother to me
who nursed at my mother's breasts!
If I found you outside, I would kiss you,
and none would despise me.
2 I would lead you and bring you
into the house of my mother—
she who used to teach me.
I would give you spiced wine to drink,
the juice of my pomegranate.
3 His left hand is under my head,
and his right hand embraces me!
4 I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem,
that you not stir up or awaken love
until it pleases.
5 Who is that coming up from the wilderness,
leaning on her beloved?
Under the apple tree I awakened you.
There your mother was in labor with you;
there she who bore you was in labor.
6 Set me as a seal upon your heart,
as a seal upon your arm,
for love is strong as death,
jealousy is fierce as the grave.
Its flashes are flashes of fire,
the very flame of the Lord.
7 Many waters cannot quench love,
neither can floods drown it.
If a man offered for love
all the wealth of his house,
he would be utterly despised.
Final Advice Others 8 We have a little sister,
and she has no breasts.
What shall we do for our sister
on the day when she is spoken for?
9 If she is a wall,
we will build on her a battlement of silver,
but if she is a door,
we will enclose her with boards of cedar.
She 10 I was a wall,
and my breasts were like towers;
then I was in his eyes
as one who finds[d] peace.
11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baal-hamon;
he let out the vineyard to keepers;
each one was to bring for its fruit a thousand pieces of silver.
12 My vineyard, my very own, is before me;
you, O Solomon, may have the thousand,
and the keepers of the fruit two hundred.
He 13 O you who dwell in the gardens,
with companions listening for your voice;
let me hear it.
She 14 Make haste, my beloved,
and be like a gazelle
or a young stag
on the mountains of spices.

Preacher: Richard Brewster
Passage: Song of Songs 6:4 - 7:13
Chapter 7
He
1 How beautiful your sandalled feet,
O prince’s daughter!
Your graceful legs are like jewels,
the work of an artist’s hands.
2 Your navel is a rounded goblet
that never lacks blended wine.
Your waist is a mound of wheat
encircled by lilies.
3 Your breasts are like two fawns,
like twin fawns of a gazelle.
4 Your neck is like an ivory tower.
Your eyes are the pools of Heshbon
by the gate of Bath Rabbim.
Your nose is like the tower of Lebanon
looking towards Damascus.
5 Your head crowns you like Mount Carmel.
Your hair is like royal tapestry;
the king is held captive by its tresses.
6 How beautiful you are and how pleasing,
my love, with your delights!
7 Your stature is like that of the palm,
and your breasts like clusters of fruit.
8 I said, ‘I will climb the palm tree;
I will take hold of its fruit.’
May your breasts be like clusters of grapes on the vine,
the fragrance of your breath like apples,
9 and your mouth like the best wine.
She May the wine go straight to my beloved,
flowing gently over lips and teeth.[d]
10 I belong to my beloved,
and his desire is for me.
11 Come, my beloved, let us go to the countryside,
let us spend the night in the villages.[e]
12 Let us go early to the vineyards
to see if the vines have budded,
if their blossoms have opened,
and if the pomegranates are in bloom –
there I will give you my love.
13 The mandrakes send out their fragrance,
and at our door is every delicacy,
both new and old,
that I have stored up for you, my beloved.

Sometimes Jesus will feel distant from us – but this is actually his invitation to search for him and find him in a deeper way
Preacher: Richard Brewster
Passage: Song of Songs 5:2 - 6:3
She 2 I slept but my heart was awake.
Listen! My beloved is knocking:
“Open to me, my sister, my darling,
my dove, my flawless one.
My head is drenched with dew,
my hair with the dampness of the night.”
3 I have taken off my robe—
must I put it on again?
I have washed my feet—
must I soil them again?
4 My beloved thrust his hand through the latch-opening;
my heart began to pound for him.
5 I arose to open for my beloved,
and my hands dripped with myrrh,
my fingers with flowing myrrh,
on the handles of the bolt.
6 I opened for my beloved,
but my beloved had left; he was gone.
My heart sank at his departure.
I looked for him but did not find him.
I called him but he did not answer.
7 The watchmen found me
as they made their rounds in the city.
They beat me, they bruised me;
they took away my cloak,
those watchmen of the walls!
8 Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you—
if you find my beloved,
what will you tell him?
Tell him I am faint with love.
Friends 9 How is your beloved better than others,
most beautiful of women?
How is your beloved better than others,
that you so charge us?
She 10 My beloved is radiant and ruddy,
outstanding among ten thousand.
11 His head is purest gold;
his hair is wavy
and black as a raven.
12 His eyes are like doves
by the water streams,
washed in milk,
mounted like jewels.
13 His cheeks are like beds of spice
yielding perfume.
His lips are like lilies
dripping with myrrh.
14 His arms are rods of gold
set with topaz.
His body is like polished ivory
decorated with lapis lazuli.
15 His legs are pillars of marble
set on bases of pure gold.
His appearance is like Lebanon,
choice as its cedars.
16 His mouth is sweetness itself;
he is altogether lovely.
This is my beloved, this is my friend,
daughters of Jerusalem.
Friends 6 Where has your beloved gone,
most beautiful of women?
Which way did your beloved turn,
that we may look for him with you?
She 2 My beloved has gone down to his garden,
to the beds of spices,
to browse in the gardens
and to gather lilies.
3 I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine;
he browses among the lilies.

As the Song celebrates the wedding of the lovers, we see Christ’s passionate desire for us.
Preacher: Richard Brewster
Passage: Song of Songs 3:6 - 5:1
She
6 Who is this coming up from the wilderness
like a column of smoke,
perfumed with myrrh and incense
made from all the spices of the merchant?
7 Look! It is Solomon’s carriage,
escorted by sixty warriors,
the noblest of Israel,
8 all of them wearing the sword,
all experienced in battle,
each with his sword at his side,
prepared for the terrors of the night.
9 King Solomon made for himself the carriage;
he made it of wood from Lebanon.
10 Its posts he made of silver,
its base of gold.
Its seat was upholstered with purple,
its interior inlaid with love.
Daughters of Jerusalem, 11 come out,
and look, you daughters of Zion.
Look on King Solomon wearing a crown,
the crown with which his mother crowned him
on the day of his wedding,
the day his heart rejoiced.
He 4 How beautiful you are, my darling!
Oh, how beautiful!
Your eyes behind your veil are doves.
Your hair is like a flock of goats
descending from the hills of Gilead.
2 Your teeth are like a flock of sheep just shorn,
coming up from the washing.
Each has its twin;
not one of them is alone.
3 Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon;
your mouth is lovely.
Your temples behind your veil
are like the halves of a pomegranate.
4 Your neck is like the tower of David,
built with courses of stone;
on it hang a thousand shields,
all of them shields of warriors.
5 Your breasts are like two fawns,
like twin fawns of a gazelle
that browse among the lilies.
6 Until the day breaks
and the shadows flee,
I will go to the mountain of myrrh
and to the hill of incense.
7 You are altogether beautiful, my darling;
there is no flaw in you.

Eyres Monsell Sunday was a special service to hear about and pray for our desire to grow a church for the Eyres Monsell estate.
Preacher: Dan James
Passage: Matthew 28
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”
8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. “Greetings,” he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”
11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

In this section of the Song, the man is suddenly and inexplicably absent from the woman - she longs for him to return and resolves to go looking for him until she finds him again.
Preacher: Richard Brewster
Passage: Song of Songs 3:1-5
She
1 All night long on my bed
I looked for the one my heart loves;
I looked for him but did not find him.
2I will get up now and go about the city,
through its streets and squares;
I will search for the one my heart loves.
So I looked for him but did not find him.
3The watchmen found me
as they made their rounds in the city.
“Have you seen the one my heart loves?”
4Scarcely had I passed them
when I found the one my heart loves.
I held him and would not let him go
till I had brought him to my mother’s house,
to the room of the one who conceived me.

Passage: Song of Songs 2
She
1 I am a rose of Sharon,
a lily of the valleys.
He 2 Like a lily among thorns
is my darling among the young women.
She 3 Like an apple[c] tree among the trees of the forest
is my beloved among the young men.
I delight to sit in his shade,
and his fruit is sweet to my taste.
4 Let him lead me to the banquet hall,
and let his banner over me be love.
5 Strengthen me with raisins,
refresh me with apples,
for I am faint with love.
6 His left arm is under my head,
and his right arm embraces me.
7 Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you
by the gazelles and by the does of the field:
Do not arouse or awaken love
until it so desires.
8 Listen! My beloved!
Look! Here he comes,
leaping across the mountains,
bounding over the hills.
9 My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag.
Look! There he stands behind our wall,
gazing through the windows,
peering through the lattice.
10 My beloved spoke and said to me,
“Arise, my darling,
my beautiful one, come with me.
11 See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
12 Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree forms its early fruit;
the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
my beautiful one, come with me.”
He 14 My dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the hiding places on the mountainside,
show me your face,
let me hear your voice;
for your voice is sweet,
and your face is lovely.
15 Catch for us the foxes,
the little foxes
that ruin the vineyards,
our vineyards that are in bloom.
She 16 My beloved is mine and I am his;
he browses among the lilies.
17 Until the day breaks
and the shadows flee,
turn, my beloved,
and be like a gazelle
or like a young stag
on the rugged hills.

This section of the Song has a precious truth for us all: Jesus sees us clearly for who we really are (all our sin and our shame), and yet he still chooses to love us passionately and to declare us beautiful in his sight when we come to him in faith.
Preacher: Richard Brewster
Passage: Song of Songs 1:2-17
She 2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth—
for your love is more delightful than wine.
3 Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes;
your name is like perfume poured out.
No wonder the young women love you!
4 Take me away with you—let us hurry!
Let the king bring me into his chambers.
Friends We rejoice and delight in you;
we will praise your love more than wine.
She How right they are to adore you!
5 Dark am I, yet lovely,
daughters of Jerusalem,
dark like the tents of Kedar,
like the tent curtains of Solomon.
6 Do not stare at me because I am dark,
because I am darkened by the sun.
My mother’s sons were angry with me
and made me take care of the vineyards;
my own vineyard I had to neglect.
7 Tell me, you whom I love,
where you graze your flock
and where you rest your sheep at midday.
Why should I be like a veiled woman
beside the flocks of your friends?
He 8 If you do not know, most beautiful of women,
follow the tracks of the sheep
and graze your young goats
by the tents of the shepherds.
9 I liken you, my darling, to a mare
among Pharaoh’s chariot horses.
10 Your cheeks are beautiful with earrings,
your neck with strings of jewels.
11 We will make you earrings of gold,
studded with silver.
She 12 While the king was at his table,
my perfume spread its fragrance.
13 My beloved is to me a sachet of myrrh
resting between my breasts.
14 My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms
from the vineyards of En Gedi.
He 15 How beautiful you are, my darling!
Oh, how beautiful!
Your eyes are doves.
She 16 How handsome you are, my beloved!
Oh, how charming!
And our bed is verdant.
He 17 The beams of our house are cedars;
our rafters are firs.

Paul has been clear with Timothy throughout this letter - the Christian life is a battle. The only way we can fight it and keep on fighting it together is by grabbing hold of the promises of who God is, what Christ has done for us, and what is guaranteed for us if we keep on trusting in him.
Preacher: Dan James.
Passage: 1 Timothy 6:11-16, 20-21.
But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.
Grace be with you all.

What we believe affects how we behave. So, when we face a crisis in life, where do we turn?
We can learn from Peter and John's release from custody to the Jewish authorities in Acts 4 how their belief in a God who answers prayer affected their response, and how we can apply their example to our own lives.
In this next section of 1 Timothy, Paul tells Timothy that a local church displays the gospel to a watching world in how they treat their elders, enjoy creation, and serve one another.
In this next section of 1 Timothy, Paul wants Timothy to see the difference knowing the God of grace should make to our relationships as God's household - in the way we love one another and the way we care for the vulnerable.
In this next section of 1 Timothy, Paul urges Timothy to pursue godliness with everything that he is and to help others do the same, so that all our lives are visibly changed by the gospel.
In 1 Timothy 4, Paul addresses some of the false teaching that was doing the rounds in the church in Ephesus.
In chapter 3, Paul outlines the qualifications for Overseers and Deacons in God's household in Ephesus
In the next chapter of 1 Timothy, Paul urges Timothy and the church at Ephesus to pray for all people.
In this next part of 1 Timothy, Paul tells Timothy to silence False Teachers. But what were these false teachers teaching?
"To Timothy, my true son in the faith" - This week we look at the first 2 verses of 1 Timothy
Introducing our series in the book of 1 Timothy, we look at Paul's description of the church from the middle of the letter
In Isaiah 55, we learn that God is utterly unlike us in his grace and mercy - and that is very good news for us! He invites thirsty, poor people like us to find forgiveness and transformation through Jesus.
Isaiah 40 is good news for weak and weary people. In it, we learn that the LORD is the everlasting God and he loves to renew the strength of his people when we trust him and cry out to him.
Isaiah 40 is good news for weak and weary people. In it, we learn that the LORD is the everlasting God and he loves to renew the strength of his people when we trust him and cry out to him.
In Philippians 2 we see an incredible picture of Jesus as the servant King. But what does that mean for us? Ben helps us think about that today.
The good news of Easter is good news for a broken world and good news for broken people like us. Because Jesus is alive today: - we have a glorious purpose as his people - we have his power available to us - we have his presence with us always
In Luke 19v28-44, Jesus comes into Jerusalem on a donkey, the crowds go wild, and Jesus cries. But why? What's going on here?
Following on from submitting to all earthly authorities, Peter carries on to apply that more specifically in this next section. Richard helps us think this through how it applies to us today.

In verse 13, Peter turns from teaching Christians what they believe and what has been done for them, to teaching how Christians should behave as a result. In this section, we see that Christians are called to Hope Fully, Live Purely, Walk Reverently and Love Deeply.

As we begin a new series in the book of 1 Peter, Richard introduces us to the man that wrote the book and the main themes of the letter.
Psalm 92 gives us a Psalm for the Lord's day. What do people who love God enjoy the most? Praising him together.
In Psalm 91 we learn that God will protect all those who trust in him. But what does that mean? What does that look like? Pete helps us think through that using this Psalm, which also helps us to see Jesus.
In Psalm 90 - a Psalm of Moses - we learn amazing truths about what God is like and what we are like.
God is good and life is hard. How do we live with these truths faithfully? In this sermon, Richard helps us explore this in Psalm 89.
In Psalm 88 we're faced with the question - can despair be praise? Can be anguish be worship? Psalm 88 answers - Yes, because both of those can be prayed.
As we continue a Summer that looks quite different to what we’re used to, we are continuing our pattern of meditating on the Psalms. We began this practice 15 years ago, and, each Summer, we pick up where we left off.

In his model prayer for us, Jesus teaches us to begin by calling God "Our father in heaven." What does that mean for us today? How could that affect the way we're praying?
"True prayer is the real me speaking to the real God." (C.S. Lewis) In the Lord's prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), Jesus teaches us how to pray by showing us who God really is and by showing us who we really are.
As Jesus hangs on the cross, before he dies, he cries out "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46) In this teaching, Richard explores what it meant for Jesus to say this, and how that points us not to a distant God, unable to sympathise with our suffering, but the opposite: a God who is intricately and personally involved in our pain. As we lead up to Easter, we're going to look at the things Jesus says during his his execution, beginning with these words. Though life is very different at the moment under Lockdown in the UK, Jesus' words and what they point us to are still as significant today as they were when he first spoke them.
