Kevin is the founder and CEO of Parallel Domain. He brings deep computer graphics experience having built and led a team within Apple's Special Projects Group focused on autonomous systems simulation. Previously, he architected and implemented procedural content systems for Microsoft Game Studios and contributed to academy award-winning films at Pixar Animation Studios.
Nils Gählert did his PhD at Mercedes-Benz in the field of camera-based perception with artificial intelligence in autonomous driving. In 2021, he joined to Wingcopter, where he has since taken over the development of artificial intelligence and autonomous flight systems. His focus is on computer vision using camera images and developing efficient neural networks to estimate the depth of objects.

Julian leads the team for Computer Vision and Machine Learning at Nect. During his study of Physics, he discovered his passion for building mathematical models for the world. After completing his PhD at Ghent University, Elias Vansteenkiste specialised in training computer vision models that improve lung cancer prediction as a postdoc researcher. After his postdoc, he worked in multiple startups around generative video reconstruction and real-time video anonymisation before joining Segmentive.

Hasnain is a Machine Learning Engineer at Hasty AI. In pure engineering fashion, he likes tackling engineering and real world issues, trying to bring out the most utility from systems. This led him into Hasty AI, where he and the team deal with implementing the data flywheel - the process of annotating data, training and deploying deep learning models, and then iterating quickly. He hopes this helps lower the bar for utilizing deep learning technology for everyone
Rafael Pagés
Dr. Rafael Pagés is Volograms Co-founder and CEO of Volograms. Rafael has been working on the 3D reconstruction field for more than 10 years, both as an entrepreneur and also as a researcher. Before co-founding the company, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin where he conducted his main research in free-viewpoint and volumetric video, and computer vision. He received his Ph.D. in Communication Technologies and Systems in 2016 from Technical University of Madrid (UPM), Spain. In 2011, he founded and led another startup where he gained experience with telepresence and volumetric video. As Volograms co-founder, he was nominated to Enterprise Ireland HPSU Founder of the Year Award in 2019.
Konstantinos Amplianitis
Dr. Konstantinos Amplianitis is Volograms’ co-founder & Chief Operating Officer (COO) where he is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company such as people management, talent sourcing and hiring, project management and financials. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Humboldt University of Berlin in Germany in 2017. Konstantinos brings strong expertise in the areas of computer vision and machine learning both from his PhD studies but also from his industrial experience at Siemens Mobility Technology & Innovation Group in Berlin. Before co-founding Volograms, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Trinity College Dublin in Ireland, where he conducted research in the areas of volumetric video, 2D human segmentation and natural image matting. Throughout his career, Konstantinos has supervised the work of several students, leading to papers in top tier conferences in computer vision.
Appu has over 18 years experience in Computer Vision and AI. He has started 3 companies, and founded Mobius Labs in 2018, with the goal of taking computer vision to every application. He previously headed AI teams at EyeEm, and has also co-authored highly cited academic publications.
Florian Letsch is excited about the intersection of product development and computer vision. He is currently a senior AI engineer and team lead at Twenty Billion Neurons GmbH. He and his team are working on "Fitness Ally", an AI-powered fitness app that scores your workout performance using the camera in your smartphone.
TwentyBN is based in Berlin and Toronto. Aside from their fitness product, TwentyBN also provide human-centric video datasets for academic and commercial use. They have recently open-sourced SenseKit - a suite of tools to train and deploy video classification models for use in mobile and edge devices.
Leif-Nissen Lundbæk (Ph.D.) is Co-Founder and CEO of Xayn. His work focuses mainly on algorithms and applications for privacy-preserving artificial intelligence. In 2017, he founded the privacy tech company together with Professor Michael Huth and Felix Hahmann. Xayn offers a privacy-protecting search engine that enables users to gain back control over the algorithms and provides them with a smooth user-experience. Winner of the first Porsche Innovation Contest, the Berlin-based AI company has already worked successfully with Porsche, Daimler, Deutsche Bahn, and Siemens.
Before founding Xayn, Leif-Nissen Lundbæk has worked with Daimler AG and IBM. He studied Economics at the Humboldt University in Berlin, received his M.Sc in Mathematics at Heidelberg University, an M.Sc. with distinction in Software Engineering at The University of Oxford and obtained his Ph.D. in Computing at the Imperial College London.
Dr. Tillich began his career with a Bachelor of Science in Biosystems Technology and Bioinformatics from the University of Applied Sciences Wildau (Germany) as well as a Master of Science from the same institution.
Dr. Tillich then pursued and completed his PhD in Molecular Biology at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin with a focus on laboratory automation systems and its role in developing better algae strains for biofuel production. He authored several peer reviewed publications during his PhD work, and co-authored two papers with Dr. Katja Schulze, another co-founder of Oculyze, which centered on using automated image analysis for microscopic images. After this, Dr. Tillich worked as a postdoctoral research scientist within both Humboldt-Universität as well as at the TH Wildau.
Driven by a firm belief in the enormous influence of technological innovation and its ability to simplify people’s lives, Dr. Tillich alongside his two co-founders Dr. Katja Schulze and Kilian Moser decided to launch Oculyze in 2015 which led to its incorporation a year later. Oculyze has since won a multitude of awards and recognition for its innovative approach towards simplifying the process of microscopic image analysis, seen clearly in the success of its ground breaking products ‘Better Brewing’ and ‘Fermentation Wine’ which have hundreds of customers in over 40 countries.
Alexander is a perception lead at Kopernikus Automotive GmbH. He started his career as a software test engineer and worked in a big variety of fields primarily related to Machine Learning topic like OCR, NLP and Big Data processing.
Around 3 years ago he discovered a beautiful world of autonomous vehicles and decided that he wants to be a part of this field that will change our future. After successful participation in robocars competition in 2018, he was invited as a Machine Learning Engineer in a company Kopernikus Automotive GmbH and soon took a responsibility over perception topic in the company.
He developed a perception system that is used to drive cars by external cameras. This system converts images from statically located cameras into a map with objects list: their positions, orientation and dimensions.
He is passionate about everything in AD and CV fields and loves to share his knowledge.

Nicolas founded Visevi Robotics together with Stefan Lochbrunner in 2019. During his PhD research, he investigated visual and haptic perception for smart robots and proposed the patented technology of camera-based sensing. He studied electrical engineering at TU Munich and at Georgia Tech.

Smart service robots are about to change our life at home and at work. Contrary to existing industrial robots; they observe their environment through cameras and understand it through AI-based computer vision. Visevi builds robots that use cameras as their only sensor type. By replacing most other sensors with a computer vision software; robots become lighter; get simplified and cheaper - exactly what is needed for large-scale use at home and in SMEs.
Görkem is a computer vision engineer at Bliq.ai. He studied geoinformatics engineering and worked on map data for two years. Later, he completed his master's education at Geoinformation Science in TU-Berlin, then started working in Bliq.ai. They use computer vision and AI for real-time street knowledge gathering and occupancy predictions of the curbside parking spots.
Sebastian studied economics at the University of Leicester, is one of the founders and also an active member of the research team inside Picalike. He has more than 15 years of experience in computer vision and machine learning and started his career at SAP. Picalike uses Computer Vision and AI for competitor analysis and personalized recommendations for fashion e-commerce.
Antonio is a computer scientist with a background in industry and academia. He is currently a senior data scientist at Parkling GmbH. He teaches computer vision and deep learning in Berlin's Data Science Retreat and hosts the Berlín Computer Vision Group meet-up.
Alex is CTO and co-founder of MoonVision. He studied electrical engineering and worked on control systems for 7 years. In 2014 he founded the Ethereum meetup in Vienna. During his MBA in California, he developed models for the California Policy Research Center.
His master thesis on machine learning with encrypted data was interrupted by the founding story of MoonVision. In 2016 the to-be founders won the Audi Smart Factory Hackathon with a computer vision solution. By today, MoonVision provides visual intelligence as white-label solution. Its technology is designed for continuous learning of inspection and counting tasks at industrial scale.
Ruben Cardenes is physicist and PhD in Medical Image Analysis and Artificial Intelligence with over 15 years of academic and professional experience in Computer Vision.
He has a strong academic background in medical imaging with research and teaching experience in three different universities, serving as reviewer in top journals and conferences (MedIA, IEEE T. on Medical Imaging, MICCAI, ISBI) and contributing with more than 20 journal publications and over 40 international conference publications. He has participated in projects with institutions like Harvard Medical School, Imperial College London, Helmholtz Zentrum Berlin or UPF in Barcelona, in applications ranging from neuroimaging, cardiovascular imaging and single cellular analysis.
He joined AstraZeneca (formerly Definiens) in 2015 where he was leading a team located in Munich and Boston that applied novel image analysis techniques in large populations for the development of immunotherapy treatments.
He works since 2019 at Hensoldt Ventures (Munich) as expert in Computer Vision and AI, in real time object detection, tracking and classification with special focus in drone applications, such as anti-UAV systems or drone autonomous flying.
Daniel Medina is a research fellow at the Institute of Communications and Navigation of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Daniel performs research on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to enable precise and robust localization for prospective autonomous vehicles. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Malaga and his M.S. in Computer Science from University Carlos III of Madrid and he is at the verge of defending his PhD on Computer Science.
In this episode of the Computer Vision in Production Podcast I speak with Roland Meertens.
Roland is a product manager at Annotell. He is a lover of robotics (especially self-driving cars) and all challenges that come with understanding the world around the robot. "It’s important to teach the robot how the world around it works using lots of data, good training algorithms, and good evaluation methods". He spends most of his time designing products that solve these problems in an easy way for perception engineers.
Before he developed machine learning solutions for the perception problem of autonomous vehicles at AID - Autonomous Intelligent Driving in Munich. They used lidar and camera data to determine what’s around us, and what traffic participants are going to do. In the end I drove long distances through Munich in our self-developed self-driving car!
Before working at AID he developed deep learning approaches for natural language processing (NLP) problems at Infor, computer vision for drones as a researcher at the TU Delft, and social robotics at SpirOps. During his study of Artificial Intelligence at the Radboud University, he specialized in cognitive artificial intelligence and brain-computer interfacing.
