On June 13th SCCDP sat down with Brian Schoen, Highway Project Manager for NDOT District 1 to discuss the progress of the Hwy 15 road construction project going through Seward. We also talked about the timeline and next phases plus the collaboration with Constructors and Seward Memorial Library for a construction day event on July 3rd from 9AM-12PM.
We take you on a journey today - a hunt actually, for the elusive Folly bird. A mythical avian creature at the center of The Great Folly Hunt in Seward County. Joanie talks with Tom and Deb Van Steenhoven about the origins, back story and how you can join in the hunt for these fantastical birds with ears! Talk Seward County is back in 2024! We're starting off this new season with an update from Joel Brase on the construction phases of the Wellness Center. When Joel was on our podcast last year it was just before the groundbreaking ceremony, and some amazing progress has been made since then! Joel tells us about how things are going and what we will be seeing in the coming months.
On this episode we are talking with Connie Greger of the Wisehart family. The Rivoli will be having an Open House this Sunday December 10th from 1:00-5:00PM to raise money for their new projector. The event will feature games, prize drawings, a silent auction and of course movies! The event is free, but is open to donations for the projector. We also talk about the history of the Rivoli from the time that the Wisehart's took over in 1979. Join us for a fun filled event and help support this wonderful family and the beloved Rivoli!

In this episode, I talk with Jerry Meyer from the Nebraska National Guard Museum here in Seward. Jerry is a wealth of knowledge in military history and battles. This was a fun and fascinating dive into the history of the museum, the new upcoming Fort Donelson exhibit, 8th Annual Run to St. Lo, July 2nd & 4th festivities and of course the Andrew Higgins boat restoration. In this episode, we talk to Gregg Nelson of Rue 6 and Squire Ward's about Illuminate Seward. The Illuminate Seward 2023 campaign is to replace these lights with new, highly efficient LED lights for all to enjoy. The bulbs will look the same. The warm color of the light will look the same. But the lights will be up to 90% more efficient and should last another 25+ years!
This revitalization project for downtown Seward Nebraska, Illuminate Seward aims to bring and shed light on a community who knows exactly what it means to give back and love local.
