I guess depending on your age bracket you are likely to prefer one translation over the others. People in their 50s and over tend to be comfortable in the KJV or perhaps NKJV. On the flip side, younger people in their 20s will feel more at home in the NLT, GNT, CEV or Message. But what accounts for these bibles and their differences?

Most of us have come across one or more social media posts that allege that part of the NIV Bible is fake because it’s deleting words from the bible and it is all the work of Satan. For any Christian, this will be alarming if they are not aware of the issues at hand. Intentionally or otherwise, two major driving forces have propelled the advancements in efforts to translate God's word throughout history. These were:
- Accessibility - the need to ensure that God's word reached all of God's people.
- Authenticity - the need to preserve the authenticity of God word.
Let's explore how men sacrificed it all including sometimes their lives to pass on God's word to all generations. In this episode, we look at how translations have come and gone from the time of the Greek Septuagint all the way to the 1611 King James Bible.

The question is can a passage in the bible mean different things to different people? And will all those meanings be correct as long as they are personal to an individual? Is there room for a subjective interpretation of the Bible? Will all our subjective views of the same text be considered valid? Most people fall into the trap of looking at what a passage is saying to them rather than what the passage is saying. In the final part of the studying in context series, we look at why the bible always has one meaning and not different subjective or personal meanings.

It's amazing how words can convey completely different and sometimes contrasting meanings if understood in the full context of their delivery. As we study the bible we must aim to learn how to get to the intent of the author and never impose our own meanings to things when the author gives us their intent. By paying attention as we read we can learn to do this fairly easily

It can be very difficult to study any document without some sort of context at all. Things like what type of document is this? Contract or Novel? What is the document related to? But when we are given the right context of the document it makes understanding even the smallest portion much easier. This is equally true for the bible. Engaging in Book Studies helps us develop a proper context for various passages (popular and unpopular). Without this, we are very likely to misapply some of what the bible says.

The entire bible is God's word. Through it, God was making His will, decrees and expectations known to us. But the entire bible isn't one long sermon or lecture. It's filled with poems, historical accounts, parables and many forms of writings. Some of these if not properly understood can lead to a wrong understanding of the text. Studying the Bible can seem daunting to many. For others, the Bible is a book that teaches about principles for success. There are different stories and strange rules that may be difficult to make sense of when reading. Most Christians avoid books like Leviticus, Amos or Obadiah. This is rather unfortunate because the bible actually has a very simple and single story that underpins it. Understanding that story can greatly harmonize the seeming disjointed stories we have in the bible. And this will take you one step closer to greatly improving your biblical understanding.
