Basketball season may be over, but these movies are great all year round. Adam and Luke chose to watch two entirely different basketball movies which highlight the different ways and reasons people love the sport.

Time travel is a common trope but it can easily get bogged down in details and technicalities. Both Looper and Terminator avoid this trap with fast-paced, action heavy storytelling, but the stories they tell are pretty different in tone. Adam and Luke are back to sci-fi to discuss the best and worst parts of each movie.

This week, Adam and Luke are joined by their first guest in a while: assistant photo editor Rob Le Cates. All three of them watched Harry Potter as children, so revisiting the series brought back memories... and made some negative parts of the series stand out. Either way, the series is a fun romp through a magical world of wands and brooms which is very entertaining if you can look past certain aspects.

Adam and Luke decided to do a second week focused around female directors and ended up choosing two movies which are pretty heavy with political commentary. American Psycho is well known and has multiple interpretations, while Promising Young Woman (a much more recent movie) is very direct in its messaging. The guys also ended up talking about Fleabag, but that's just because it's so good.

In honor of Women's History and Awareness Month, Adam and Luke decided to choose two movies which were directed by women. Coincidentally, they hadn't seen either of these movies. While The Power of the Dog didn't strike the same chord for them that it did for many reviewers, they both greatly enjoyed Nomadland. Listen in to find out why!

Everybody is tired of remakes by now... but maybe there's one exception to the norm of bad ones. The original West Side Story has plenty of decent elements, but Adam and Luke find that the 2021 film makes many improvements. We'll be taking a break next week during spring break, so this episode is a little bit longer to tide you over!

Adam and Luke are once again watching sci-fi movies, which once again exemplify completely different forms of the genre. Annihilation is adjacent to horror and fantasy, full of otherworldly concepts and dark imagery. The Martian, on the other hand, features entirely feasible concepts and upbeat, comedic storytelling.

Animated children/family movies, especially Pixar films, formed many beloved and shared childhood movies for the last couple generations. Adam and Luke each picked a favorite to watch and of course ended up loving both of them. Tune in for their arguments on why The Incredibles and Ratatouille are some of the greatest movies of our time.

They might be a bit late for Valentine's Day, but Adam and Luke still decided to watch some romantic movies for this episode. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is all humor and the Hundred Foot Journey is mostly cooking and yet both still contain some... interesting love stories.

This episode, Adam and Luke decided to watch some "film bro" movies- films that are known for their fan bases, mostly made up of men who relate (or believe they relate) to certain characters or parts of the story. As it turns out, both guys liked Fight Club. Joker, however... if you're a fan of that movie, you probably just shouldn't listen to this episode.

Adam and Luke have created their longest episode title out of a simple urge for understanding: why don't people like these movies? At the risk of getting defensive, they each chose a movie to talk about which they enjoyed but often has negative reviews from audience members... and they are some pretty insane movies. From interdimensional aliens in a temple to vampires in a flatmate situation, all bases are truly covered in this episode.

Have you ever felt outsmarted by a movie? As much as Adam and Luke enjoyed watching Macbeth and The Green Knight, they both admitted to not fully understanding either film. Still, both movies are visually stunning and feature extremely talented actors, making them well worth a second watch for comprehension.

Luke introduced Adam to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and he actually enjoyed it, surprising both of them! Thor: Ragnorak is one of the most creative and visually interesting action movies of the last decade and Spider-Man: No Way Home is full of fun scenes, especially for anyone who enjoys any preceding Spider-Man movies.

The Movie DEN is back for the spring semester! Adam and Luke decided to go with some movies directed by Martin Scorsese for this week's episode: "Taxi Driver" and "Goodfellas." Both movies feature a fair amount of violence but the stories themselves are what makes them truly memorable.

Welcome to the Winter Break Special! Before they left campus, Adam and Luke got together to watch White Christmas and The Preacher's Wife. In reality, both of these movies are more Christmas-adjacent than actually about the holiday, but they're still perfect to watch during December. We'll be back to our regular programming in January.

It's a winter special! These movies have literally nothing in common except that both have lots of snow in them. Adam and Luke felt confused about the vibes of this episode while they were recording it in 60 degree weather in Illinois, but winter is an exciting enough time to make it worth it.

Many family and children's movies seem to be made without very much care for the audience or attention to detail, but that isn't the case for either E.T. or Paddington. Both films are about sweet little guys who need to find their home in one way or another, and both movies made Adam and Luke very happy. Maybe they were intended for younger audiences, but grown-ups should see them, too.

One could argue that almost any apocalyptic movie and any other post-apocalyptic movie are from the same universe, so we did. Clearly the explosions at the end of Dr. Strangelove created the desolate wasteland wherein the events of the Mad Max story take place. Really though, these movies are good for completely opposite reasons and that's pretty cool.

Baby Driver and Scott Pilgrim vs the World have different plots and wildly different tones, but Edgar Wright's style and thoughtful directorial choices shine through in both. Adam and Luke found very little to complain about in either movie after having a pretty delightful time watching each of them and may need to have another viewing to catch every detail.

Adam chose movies to show to Luke this week and landed on two Mexican films which both focus on interpersonal relationships and happen to share an actor. Amores perros (sometimes translated "love's a bitch") and Y tu mamá también (released in English as And Your Mother Too) are both artfully directed, well written and well acted, though the guys did have personal preferences between the two.
There aren't any true spoilers in this episode, but there is some discussion of fictional animal cruelty. Adam and Luke explain how the effects happened on screen without truly hurting any animals, but listen at your own discretion.

Sci-fi is a large and varied genre, and Tron and Ex Machina seem about as different as two movies could be... but they're surprisingly similar. Whether you're going into the "grid" or witnessing the first instance of true artificial intelligence, cool visual effects and vague computer terms are bound to turn up. Adam and Luke enjoyed both of these movies, and they're just here to talk about all the neat stuff.
Tron is difficult to spoil, but there are very heavy spoilers for Ex Machina in this episode. If you feel like that will hurt your viewing experience, watch the movie before you listen to us talk about it!

James Bond is a man of many talents and many actors, but his gadgets, outfits and witty one-liners never get old. In fact, some aspects may have improved with time. Adam and Luke break down the differences between the most recent Bond movie and one of the earliest installments in the series, as well as their favorite characters and fun scenes. This episode some mild spoilers for No Time to Die, but no major plot points are revealed. There are some massive spoilers for Goldfinger, but it came out in 1964, so...

So, was Twilight actually good? Well... Not really. Still, with the help of special guest and Twilight expert Maddy Powers, Luke and Adam found some creative concepts and enjoyable scenes throughout the series. From Bella's awkwardness, Edward's "old school" ideals and Jacob's surprising creepiness to Charlie's cool dad behavior and Alice's girl boss energy, this series is truly unique. There are 11 Star Wars movies, all told: the three prequels, three originals and three sequels, as well as two "Star Wars Stories." In the span of two weeks, Adam, Luke and their first guest, Ryan, watched all of them. The delirium of 26 hours of sci-fi may have set in, but there's still so much to talk about, from iconic lightsaber battles to campy writing to lovable side characters.

Disney just keeps making the same movies over again, don't they? The guys decided they wanted to watch a movie that has been remade and compare it to the original. Beauty and the Beast felt like the right choice. The original animated version came out in 1991, and the "live-action" was released in 2017. The new version adds some details and music, but its biggest downfall was a swing and miss at winning diversity points.

This time around, Adam and Luke decided to revisit some of their favorite childhood movies: The Road to El Dorado (2000) and Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001). They ended up with some concerns about some dated aspects of these animated films, but had a riot watching and talking about both movies nonetheless. Next week, they'll be comparing two versions of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Palm Springs (2020) and Boogie Nights (1997) are very dissimilar movies, but both have elements of character growth and cinematic devices that make them stand out.
