In this video, I talk about Sophocles’s play Oedipus Rex. I find that there is a lot to mine here. The main themes I got from it this time: how Oedipus crosses and blurs fundamental boundaries, how to deal with the fates’ (or suffering’s) power in the world, and how commitment is necessary for any proper integration to happen. I received a very meaty comment from my Odysseus video. I thought I would use it as a springboard for this video. I try to piece out the differences between taking vengeance and forgiveness, discipline versus mercy, and God dealing with injustice. There's a ton of thinking out loud and wandering in this video.

I finally made the video on the Odyssey. Some main themes are deceptions, temptations, hospitality, property, identity, injustice, vengeance, and mercy. I really liked the Odyssey and thought it masterfully illustrated these things. I hope that this is helpful or interesting to someone.

I thought I would use this video to help me think through the introduction I have to my Senior Thesis. I have since done another draft of my introduction that I feel is improved, partly through the help of this video. In the video, I talk about the modern phenomena of dating apps and hookup culture and how that intersects with real life. In short, the former doesn't translate to the latter very well. This is my first conversation with Richard. I had some technical difficulties during this conversation, and, because of this, the beginning was not recorded. We prayed to begin the conversation which Richard thought would be a good "angel" (or "spirit") to start our conversation out with (and I agreed). We talked about our own lives and then transitioned to briefly talk about the nature of truth (which we hope to continue discussing in the future). I hope someone finds something helpful in here. I finally was able to watch the new Spider-Man movie and here are my takeaways. In sum, I can't remember a more Christian movie that I have ever watched. There are definitely others that are close, but this one seems to represent a very important piece of the Christ story. Hope you enjoy and feel free to give me any pushback.

This is effectively an introduction to why I don't subscribe to Correspondence Truth Theory. In this video, I talk about what Francis Sheaffer saw as the bend of Western Cultural History. Sheaffer seems to posit that God is the grounding of all reality and truth. When we take away God, we lose everything. I agree with him to an extent, but I'm not sure if he's selling himself short as to the actual grounding of God. I want to begin using his ideas in my dialectic more than I have been over the last couple of months. These are my thoughts on Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. This is a phenomenal book. I think it is mostly about how our desires conflict. We pursue an ideal, don't like limitation, and, at times, drain into non-existence. Wuthering Heights is a story about how we ourselves live.

This is my third, (and perhaps final, at least for a while), video on Homer's Iliad. In this one, I try to really get down to the differences between Love and Hate. There are a lot of other ways you could frame it: longsuffering versus anger, forgiveness versus revenge, etc. This is the fundamental divide in the Iliad, and, perhaps, in existence itself (not to sound too dogmatic).

I got done with Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl. I forgot to mention this in the video, but everyone should make an effort to read this book. I don't really talk about the book as such here because it's hard to put Frankl's ideas any better than he puts them. This video, therefore, is mostly on the connections between Viktor Frankl, Jordan Peterson, and Christianity. Not really sure where these ideas will take me, but it's interesting to ponder.

Here's are some of my thoughts on the prologue (if you can call it that) to Hesiod's Theogony. To what extent is Hesiod talking about Jesus Christ? What is the role of truth in Christian salvation? What is the relationship between dancing and singing? This prologue is very tightly packed when reading it as a Christian. I barely scratched the surface.

This is my conversation on Calvinism and Arminianism with David Pallmann. It's been almost a whole year since I have deeply engaged with these topics, so I am quite rusty (as can be seen from the video). David and I go through the five points on Calvinism and what a Classical Arminian perspective of them is. David also takes the time to respond and give his take on several "Calvinistic" passages. Since this was our first lengthy interaction with each other in engaging these topics, it seemed to me that there was some feeling out of the other's position (or, at least, that was the case for me). The real rub of the issue seems to be: Do we do any actions in order to be saved; and what do we mean by actions? Both David's Classical Arminianism and a traditional Calvinistic perspective say we do no "works" to be saved. I personally feel that this is a harder sell for the Arminian, although it is easier to keep free will with such a position. With any luck, David and I will be able to have another conversation where David tries to lay out why an Arminianism truly is not saying that free will in salvation involves "works" on the part of humanity. I am talking with my friend, Vidal Freire. We discuss, most exactly, Approximated Truth Claims. Vidal posits that we cannot really know reality absolutely, and therefore all our knowledge about reality (and about truth) is approximate. This then means that language is merely a broken human tool, science is not definite, and that we are constantly plagued by our own subjectivity. This makes Vidal a very definite and hard Skeptic.
I have many, many points of contention and disagreement with this view (in fact, it is almost the anthesis of my thinking); however, I do not attempt to hash them out here, for I was primarily concerned with understanding Vildal's philosophy. Vidal and I intend to have another conversation in the future about God, Existentialism (how I define it), and more about honest and atheistic skepticism.
