Quiet Bodies: Recent Episodes

Charlotte Mathiessen

Welcome to Quiet Bodies! This is a podcast that opens up feminist conversations about the body and seeks to make the unknown and quiet stories of our bodies heard and felt.

I am Charlotte Mathiessen, a dancer, choreographer and feminist. In each episode, I invite someone for a conversation about a topic related to the body and feminism. Body awareness exercises pop up throughout the conversation to integrate the topics we talk about into the body.

In this episode, I continue my conversation with Katarina Jazbec and Angeliki Diakrousi about their collaboration on the short film You Can't Automate Me. This time we explore the ways in which Katarina and Angeliki guided the group of lashers through movements and awareness exercises, and we talk about the role of the cleaner of containers called Martin in the film. The body awareness exercises draw from the extreme focus the lashers have to develop in order to do their work and allow us to explore how focussed attention can be learned and practiced. Enjoy!

In this episode, I spoke to Katarina Jazbec and Angeliki Diakrousi about their collaboration on the short film You Can't Automate Me. The film follows lashers working at the Rotterdam harbour and shows their bodies at work in this otherwise automated and highly dangerous environment. Inspired by images of the film and our conversations I propose ways of listening to your body and the space around you. The second part of the conversation will be released as episode 6 in about 2 weeks.
