A burglary on Avalon, and with only one professional thief in the student body, Kuro has a long night of interrogation.
Kuro attempts to learn a little more about lutin, while everyone else obsesses over the familiars they might someday summon.
Home at last in the coziness of Autumn lodge, but nothing ever goes entirely smoothly for Kuro, does it?
Kuro is looking forward to returning to school, but he has to pass an evocations exam before he'll be allowed to do so. Will he pass? Will he survive the attempt? How large will the crater be?
Kuro gets his annual visit to the Granite Citadel and a chat with his least favourite person there. At least he has Azalea there to share the misery.
Finally free to wander his old haunts in Bytown, Kuro is reminded that he isn't allowed to enjoy anything without consequences.
Trapped in a fortress-like orphanage, Kuro finds himself surrounded by enemies, separated from his friends, and buried in remedial schoolwork.
It's over! For now anyway. This is the final chapter in Stealing from Wizards Volume 1: Pickpocketing. Book two is in the works. Sabine visits unexpectedly with the promise of reuniting Kuro with his real family, but Kuro was always told that he was manufactured, not born.
While Kuro is finally vindicated and is allowed a brief moment of peace, his friends are not so lucky. Evelyn's machinations backfire terribly, to everyone's loss.
A clever plan finally comes to fruition. Could things finally be turning around for Kuro?
Kuro is all but invisible to his alchemy teacher, but being ignored isn't all bad. Sometimes a little negligence can go a long way.
Arthur and Marie return from the holidays, but so do the rest of the students. Kuro's brief peace is lost, and new truths are revealed.
As the year draws to a close Kuro attends his firs ever feast, though it's not anything he could have expected.
Kuro gets his first ever solstice presents, and there are more surprises than he would have ever wished for.
While most of the school leaves for the holidays, Kuro remains behind. However, he fails to find peace even on a nearly empty island.
Detention doesn't have the expected effect on someone who has spent their life as a servant to a tyrant. Mr. Flint, though, thinks he is up to the challenge.
Kuro finds that his lack of magical talent extends farther than he knew, and has unexpected consequences that horrify his class.
The promise of a festival and a feast is delayed by a visit from a member of the Royal Guard and an involuntary run through the autumn leaves.

Sometimes you get to choose your friends, sometimes they choose you, and sometimes it’s just down to who happens to sit next to you on the boat to your first day of school.
Friends and enemies are made as Kuro takes the long ride across the water to Avalon Island, home of the school that will be his home and prison for the next ten months.
Something that both children and imprisoned criminals have in common is that they are given little choice as to how or where they spend their time.
Kuro, being both, has even less say in the matter. He is trapped, helpless and hopeless, watching adults decide his future for him. At least he is well fed.
Of students, hounds, lightning, and loyalty.
No good deed goes unpunished, and a kind heart is a fatal weakness. These were lessons taught to Kuro from his first moments, but even so they failed to sink in.
A single, foolhardy act of loyalty turns Kuro’s life upside down and lands him in the hands of one of the most dangerous wizard hunters in the four kingdoms.
Living in the magical world, surrounded by wizards, elves, and fairies, doesn’t make life alone on the streets any easier. However, small victories are worth celebrating, and a good place to hide, a kindly ghost, and a furry friend can make all the difference in the world when your greatest hope is surviving till tomorrow.
