As we draw this series on healing cards to a close, it's likely important for us to consider the best healer in all of Middle-Earth, Elrond. But, this episode we look at ally Elrond instead of the Hero. While we don't love him, we do appreciate his place in the card pool.

Thanks to all our Patrons for making this and all our shows possible. If you are interested in becoming a patron, please click: https://patreon.com/cardtalk2018
The guys take on a more obscure card in the game, Free to Choose. It's a spirit card that reduces threat if your threat is raised by the encounter deck. It's not a popular card, but what do you think? Want to support us? Become a patron: https://patreon.com/cardtalk2018
Thanks to our NEW READY TEDDY level patrons, Vardaen and Justin for their amazing support!
Farmer Maggot. Sure he's got his shortcut to mushrooms, but what else? It seems that the guys are in agreement that he's good in a Hobbit deck, but not much else. You just seem to spend the resources elsewhere.

Card Talk went live twice during LCG Con. During this, the second episode, we talk about players favorite cards from the Ered Mithrin cycle. We were excited to have two of our patrons on the show along with two other guests. Four guests coupled with a full cast of hosts made for great discussion about the chosen cards!

This past weekend, Card Talk was pleased to go live with a full cast and 4 guests. We all talked about favorite cards from the Core Set and Shadows of Mirkwood cycle. There were some interesting choices and some choices that were not surprising. Thanks to everyone who joined!
In this episode, the guys talk about the second son of Denethor. His leadership version seems awfully thematic, inspiring allies to continue the adventure, but how does he fit into a deck? Join us!

Another classic card, this card seems to not see that playing time it may deserve. Even though Grant sits this one out, Dave and Ted seem to have no problem filling up the time talking about this spirit attachment.
A lore hero from the core set, Beravor allows you to have consistent card draw. She also has the Dunedain and Ranger trait, for those keeping score. We spent a lot of time discussing other ways to get card draw beside her. What's your opinion on her?
This card could change the way you build a few different types of decks. There are some pretty good targets for the card, too. Join us as we talk about the last of the cards spoiled in the FFG Article for Fortress of Nurn.

In this special spoiler episode, we talk about the newly spoiled and highly anticipated last hero of the game, Spirit Aragorn. As a spirit hero, he sure does slot into a few decks. And the community is already abuzz about the card. People have formed their strong opinions. Maybe we can change yours?
SPOILER!!! The final pack of the Vengeance of Mordor cycle (and the game, for now) was announced yesterday. In it is the contract. It really gets the creative juices flowing about deck building and creation and how to construct a deck using its limitations. It's so much fun!!

In this episode we have Bob and Chrissy talking about Tactics Imrahil. I met Bob and Chrissy at Con of the Rings 2019 and Ted apparently has been friends with them for a long time. It's always awesome to see couples getting together surrounding the game. This is no exception! Also, anytime the "I am no man!" clip can make it into an episode, that's perfect!

Thanks to Patron Lewis I. for the show choice. He's been waiting a long time to hear about this hero. A classic from the core set, what do you think of this card?

In this episode the guys talk about one of the strognest allies in the game. No, literally, one of the strongest because he's a tree. That makes him really strong. But, what do the guys think of his playability? Join us and find out!
In this episode, we talk about an awesome... chump, the Snowbourn Scout. He's a 1 cost leadership hero that seems to take the brunt of the Hill Troll's club. What do you think about this Rohan ally?
The release of the fifth AP in the Vengeance of Mordor Cycle has been delayed. But, the last few cards were spoiled late last week.
In this episode the guys talk about The Red Book of Westmarch because it's a player card. While it looks pretty functional as a player card, it sure looks fun.
Join us as we spoil this card!

In this episode we talk about an old card. We Are Not Idle came out in the second cycle, in the Shadow and Flame AP. Here we discuss how it's aged over the life of the game and compare it to many of the other cards that allow you to draw. What are your opinions of this card? Awesome or Ashes? Cool or Crud?
In this bonus episode of Card Talk, Grant and Dave spend time talking to Joseph, Mike, and Shane about their experiences playing epic multiplayer mode... and doing it digitally. Despite some crazy obstacles, they managed to beat one of the hardest scenarios in the game in one of the hardest game modes in the game. Thanks to them for joining us. To see Grant's Epic Multiplayer Game, here's the link to Mr. Underhill's recorded live stream: https://youtu.be/nHT4WaTjujQ
We harken back to the core set with a review of this card. While Ted is out to lunch, Dave and Grant talk about Valiant Sacrifice. This leadership card is a decent option in for card draw if you are looking for leadership only. It may not be the best option if you have any sort of lore in your deck.
Card Talk takes a a few minutes of your day to discuss the core set card Power in the Earth. It's not awesome by any stretch of the imagination, but it certainly has a place in the card pool. Join Ted and Dave as they discuss where that place is.
In this episode of Card Talk the guys talk about a card that's been around for a while and has received new life in recent months with the release of the contracts. Please enjoy our show discussing Timely Aid.
Epic. That's all I really need to say about this show. We have two of the community's foremost experts on how to use Rosie Cotton on the show talking about, well, how to use her effectively. Most of the first 20 minutes or so has surprises for everyone here, included both guests and most importantly, you, the audience!
Enjoy!
In this show we spend a lot of time talking about Elwing's flight with Steven Majka. Most people would know him in the community as Vardaen. If you play Marvel Champions you may know him from his own fledgling podcast, Critical Encounters.
Today, he drops a few knowledge bombs on us and teaches us why this card's art hits the mail exactly on the head. Thanks, Steve, for joining us!
In this episode of Card Talk, we discuss the core set staple, Unexpected Courage. It's a great card. You should join us in a thought experiment. Name a deck that you don't use this card.
CON OF THE RINGS ANNOUNCEMENT!!
Today we have John Rogers on the show making the first official announcement for Con of the Rings 2020. He explains what's the same, what's new, and of course, what the quests will be. It's an exciting time to be a part of the community
We also spend some time talking about The Long Defeat. This lore attachment is not a power card, but we spend the last half of the show talking about how good this card really is.
Mark has an artist's eye and pays attention to detail. In this episode we talk to u/RiddermarkLord about all the alternate art he does and publishes on Reddit, free for the community to consume. He publishes all his work on his flickr account which you can find here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/7876498@N07/albums/72157711123410156/page1 These alt art cards are by RiddermarkLord, and all original art is own by the individual artists who created them. This art is not being distributed for profit but Card Talk or by RiddermarkLord. Original art credit and detailed descriptions can be found on the flickr page above.
Back from our Couples February content, we tackle this card from early in the game. The iconic scene in Fellowship is captured here in a thematic sense. Ted was the one who suggested the card so join us as we hear what Ted has to say about this card from his latest playthroughs.
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! We end our amazing month with the best couple in the game, Caleb and Matt. Both of these guys have been integral in the design of the game since early on and without them, this game would have fallen into the abyss with Gandalf and the Balrog. Thank you to both for taking time out of their day to chat with us.
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! What month celebrating couples in the game would be complete without having Brandon come on the show and talk about his OTP, Boromir. He's had a man crush on this card since it was spoiled and still holds it close to his heart.
For those who don't know, Brandon is the creator of Cardboard of the Rings and, really, was the face of the community online for many, many years.
Lastly, for the record, he created his own art for the cover of this podcast!
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! As our special month draws to a close, we have a couple that behaves very similarly to the way I am with my daughters. It's a father-child Valentine! Theodred and Theoden really work well together to get a kickstart a Rohan deck going, but just getting it going can be the hard part. Please enjoy!
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! If we had a different episode name format for our show, this episode would definitely be called "Fart Talk." You'll figure out why in the first 10 seconds of the show. Regardless, I love this girl and I am so thankful that she agreed to come on the show!
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! We continue our special month with the original bromance from Tolkien's work. Here we talk specifically about Spirit Legolas and Leadership Hero Gimli. Enjoy our this episode!
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! On this Valentine's Day, right in the middle of Couples February, we celebrate a couple that is very close to home, Grant and Katie. Katie has been on our show in the past, but only as a guest snorer. Today, she comes on the show to discuss Ally Gimli. Thanks, Katie, for loving Gimli and for loving Grant and for loving this game!
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! In this episode, we ask game playing couple Jason and Sarah to join us and talk about a card that they picked and play together, Kahliel. I'm thankful to see a couple play LOTR LCG because the community around this game is strong, so their marriage must be strong. Thank you to these folks for coming on the show!
Well, well, well. Probably the most lob-sided couple in the game. Smeagol spends the better part of 70 years trying to get his precious back in his possession while the precious is trying to get back to its owner. It's the story of unrequited love, really.
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! In this episode, we truly have a guest host. Dave's youngest daughter, Chloe, takes the helm and pilots us through an episode of Card Talk. Afterall, parents are their children's first valentine! Thanks, Chloe, for coming on the show!
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! A first for Card Talk. We reached out to The Tolkien Road podcast where John and Greta Carswell have been talking about Tolkien for years now. You see, they're married so that makes them prime for COUPLES FEBRUARY. They spend time with the guys talking about some of the lore behind the game. But it is a podcast about the game, so, oh yeah, we talk about that too!
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! Our inaugural episode this February kicks off with the quintessential couple in both the game and the legendarium. Regardless of which hero version of Aragorn you play with Hero Arwen Umdomiel, you probably have the start of a pretty good hero line up that can be flexibly played at any player count or in any scenario.
In this episode, Grant and Dave tackle the core set staple, Feint. This card is probably one of the best, and most simple, cards in the game. It's always effective and always is welcome when a player uses it. After 10 years, this card is still AWESOME!
In this episode Grant and Dave talk about the Leadership Hero Theodred. Back in the day, he was awesome, adding one resource to a questing hero's resource pool. He could really make or break a deck with that resource manipulation. But, how has he aged?
COUPLES FEBRUARY!!! This February, join Card Talk as we discuss couples that are in the game and associated with LOTR LCG and Tolkien. We are excited to present some of the best and most influential couples that have anything to do with LOTR. Over 10 episodes for the month will hit on all sorts of couples that Card Talk has found.
SPOILER ALERT! The next AP in the Vengeance of Mordor Cycle was just announced late last week. While there were so many amazing and useful cards that were spoiled, one in particular caught the eye of Dave. So here we are, discussing Odo Proudfoot!
We take a trip back to the core set in this episode. Join us as we talk about Eleanor, a hero that can cancel some treachery effects. She also has a low starting threat. But her stats are tough to work with. Maybe we should just stick to using her ability?
Welcome to our Christmas episode! If you enjoy the audio episode, you may want to click over to the video just to see our "Christmas Cut" of this show. Click here:
https://youtu.be/D7dBd3ZIJEY
This week we discuss the OG Christmas Tree, hero Treebeard. Don't let the special effects fool you, this guy can be one mean ol' grinch to the staging area. But, which version of his is better, ally or hero? Let's let Santa decide!
In this episode, still without Grant, we talk about the tactics event, Behind Strong Walls. This card is pretty good but limited to Gondor characters. And what is the better effect, the ready or the defense buff?
In the episode, again, without Grant, the guys discuss Gildor's Counsel. This event is a crazy card to talk about because it only works in multiplayer games. This card is useless in solo play as it only lowers the encounter cards drawn to a limit of 1. Of Dave and Ted, guess who loves it and guess who never uses it?!
In this episode, Ted and Dave talk about Strider's Path. This card was released at the very beginning of the game in the Hunt for Gollum AP. It's got an interesting response, but is it that powerful at all player counts?
Caleb returns to the show to talk about a contract, The Grey Wanderer. But, admittedly, this show is about so much more than just a contract. We talk about the cycle, some of the inspiration behind cards in the cycle. It was a great discussion and we're always grateful for the time that Caleb gives us!
Of all the player side quests in the card pool, we pick this one to do?! Explore Secret Ways isn't a powerhouse of a card, but it has it's place in the card pool. We talk about a few, but what others can you think of?
The third adventure pack of the Vengeance of Mordor cycle is still months away, but a French article spoiled the Hero from it. Saruman. You heard right. Saruman. And, at first glance, he looks like an absolute BEAST!
A core set... staple... maybe? At the very least we are going back to the core set to talk about a card with a necessary mechanic, Hero recursion. Thank god it was included in the core set. But has the card aged well over time?
As one of the "behind the scenes" folks of Cardboard of the Rings and and an organizer of Con of the Rings, Aaron has cemented his importance in the community as the guy that helps stuff happen. This is not unlike the card he chose, Hero Dori, who on his own is probably not a standout, but probably in a fellowship Dori can pull his weight. Do you think all our guests pick cards that reflect their own personalities or what?!
In this, the last Guarded (X) episode, we look at the ancient sword, Orcrist. These guarded attachments don't get much better than this, do they?
Finally! The three of us get a moment to sit down after the Con of the Rings and talk about all the awesome things that we did and the amazing people we met.
In this episode, we talk about the card that fetches guarded (x) attachments. Like many cards, there are good things and bad things about this card. What do you think we missed?
As our trip down Guarded (X) card lane continues, we talk about Glamdring, Gandalf's sword from the lengendarium. This is the Lore version of the weapon that gives the attached hero (or Gandalf) +2 attack strength. The card costs 1, but is the Guarded (X) make the cost too much?
At Con of the Rings, I was fortunate enough to host a designer interview with both Caleb Grace and Matt Newman. In this interview, we talk card design, abstractions, and about the infamous "break."
Special thanks to McDog, an organizer of the Con who shot the video and allowed me to edit this for distribution to the community after my audio file was corrupted!
Enjoy!
This past weekend was Con of the Rings, a convention specifically designed for and organized by members of the Lord of the Rings Living Card Game Community. In this episode we have on several participants that talk about the Con and how awesome it was. Yup! This show s designed to make you jealous of the AMAZING time we had and hopefully convince you to come out next year.
Included in this show with our hosts is Joseph Forster, Caleb Grace, John Rodgers, Dan Poage, and Derek Kamal.
Also, we apologize for any audio quality issues. We worked hard on trying to pick up all the guests while cutting down on ambient noise. It was tough and we tried.
Lastly, in order to turn this episode around quickly for the community, I didn't cut anything from the show.
Enjoy!
This week the guys talk about the Necklace of Girion. Yup, it's guarded. Yup, it's neutral. Yup, it costs 1. But do the benefits outweigh the guarded cons?
What an awesome show! Kristian joins us to talk about the Ring of Thror. He takes us through the whole card, literally, as we discuss everything from the name all the way down to the artist. Thanks to him for joining us on the show!!!
In this episode, we talk about the guarded (x) card, Mithril Shirt. This attachment reduces damage dealt to a hero by 1. It seems like a small effect, but it really is more powerful when you play it than it first seems. But it's a guarded card. Does it make it worth it?
In this, albeit belated, episode of Community Tales, we talk about the now-famous poem from Reddit, our own show, and some other projects that are going on around the community.
In a continuation of our series on guarded (x) cards, Grant and I take a look at the Arkenstone. This 1 cost neutral attachment gives all unique characters an extra willpower. This seems to fit very nicely into a tactics deck, but does it work anywhere?
In this episode, Grant and Dave look at Sting, a guarded tactics attachment that goes on a hobbit hero. This card seems like the perfect guarded attachment for Tactics Bilbo to target in the staging area, but he may not be the best target to attach the card to. For more about this card, tune in!
In this episode, Grant and Dave take a closer look at the new tactics hero Bilbo after using him for a little while. The guys think he is still pretty good, but playing with him has given them new insight on just how well he works. Tune in!
In this episode, we talk to Derek Kamal, one of the hosts of the Grey Company Podcast. We spend the episode talking about small target, a spirit event from the Encounter at Amon Din adventure pack. I wonder what there is to say about this seldom-used card?
By popular demand! We bring Matt on this episode of Card Talk to talk about a hero that he has been advocating for for years. Hero Lore Faramir fits real nice into Matt's trap deck, but can it fit elsewhere?
In our monthly trip around the community, we spend the whole episode talking about GenCon, the yearly gaming convention that happens in Indianapolis, IN, USA. Ted, our newest co-host reports all the news from the floor of the con!
In this episode, we get over our "Doomed Fear" pretty quickly as we talk about Legacy of Numenor, a 0 cost, doomed 4 (yup, F-O-U-R!) event. It gives every hero in the game an extra resource. In essence, it skips a whole turn. Does the cost outweigh the benefit? This is the interesting question that we take on in this episode!
In this episode we talk about Grima, a Lore Hero from the the Voice of Isengard box. His ability is to give cards the doomed keyword, but reduce their cost by 1. Is the trade off good? Is it bad? Is it ugly? And speaking of his card art...
Have you ever heard something we've said and thought that we were so totally off base that you wanted to set us straight, or maybe even worse? Join Grant and Dave as they have Ted Banach on the show where he discusses how the guys got their analysis of Hero Gandalf all wrong. Ted is a veteran player himself and has made an appearance on CotR with the same theme: All cards are playable. Let us know about your own "set us straight moment!"
SPOILER ALERT! In this episode the guys take a look at the newest hero spoiled in the upcoming deluxe box, The Vengeance of Mordor. Frodo is his name and threat reduction is his game. Join us for the discussion!
Join us as we look at some of the very best content that the LOTR LCG community is creating for the past month!
Spoiler Alert! We take a bit longer than a few minutes to discuss this new card and its mechanics. We also talk about its impact on deck building and the overall meta of the game. And for fun, we tackle the idea of being able to fulfill the contract in the first turn. Let us know what you think!
Support us on Patreon! https://patreon.com/cardtalk2018
In preparation for next week's episode with our guest, Ted, we spend some time talking about Gandalf's mount, Shadowfax. Well, he is considered a mount in the game, but he is more of a Horse-lord that allows Gandalf to be carried on him. Enjoy!
Support Card Talk on Patreon! https://patreon.com/cardtalk2018
In this episode we take a look at a staple card from the Watcher in the Water, Elrond's Counsel. That this card is 0 cost makes this card practically OP, but it does have one limitation; you must control a unique Noldor. With the current card pool, that's not so difficult.

In this episode, we harken back to a day when the core set was king... and Gimli was a boss. This card is filled with nostalgia for many veterans and I don't think I'm spoiling anything for new players when I say how cool citadel plate was paired with this guy. But, how has he aged? What else do you do with him? Take a listen and find out!

In this episode, we talk about a knot. Yup, that's right, a knot. We'd love it if you chose to listen to what we have to say... or knot.
In our next episode in our occasional series "Encounter Card Talk," we talk about the encounter set from the core set, Journey Along the Anduin. This encounter set is small in terms of encounter cards, but does include the quest cards for the scenario. Tell us your favorite experience with this scenario!
In the episode, John Rogers, also known as Peace, and Thought throughout the community comes on the show to discuss The Con of the Rings. It's a MUST LISTEN episode if you are attending The Con or want to know more about it. He spoils some of the achievements and hints at the swag. Oh right, this is Card Talk, so he also comes on and talks about one of his favorite cards!
In our latest episode we talk about another "Black Riders" hobbit. This hero is valuable in a hobbit deck and is a staple in the tri-sphere black riders deck popular when that saga box came out. What are your thoughts?

In this episode, Card Talk takes a special look at the three "normal" Aragorn cards. We explain each of the strengths and weaknesses of the cards. We take a trip around the LOTR LCG community and see what February had to offer. Yes, we talk about our Silvan February, but the community was active. Of special note was all the content that our friend, Samuel Shreeve (AKA Onidsen) put out. Always good. Take a listen to see what we saw this month.

SILVAN FEBRUARY! A card in the Silvan archetype that cancels a shadow effect?!?! Gotta have it... at least in a Silvan deck. We aren't so sure about in any other type of deck though.

SILVAN FEBRUARY! In this episode we talk about another niche card that helps our slippery Silvan deck trigger, bouncing elves back into our hand. When you play the deck, you'll see that even these events sometimes only help to trigger the Silvan "when enter play" effects.

SILVAN FEBRUARY! This card is one of the powerhouse events in the deck! Not only does it power the "when enters play" mechanic that the Slippery Silvan deck highlights, but it also has a powerful effect against enemies. What a card!

SILVAN FEBRUARY! This lore event is vital to every Silvan deck that takes advantage of the "when enters play" mechanic that is so fun to play in the Slippery Silvan deck. It seems, though, that is doesn't have much of a place outside of that kind of deck.

SILVAN FEBRUARY! What Silvan build would be complete with out this one cost leadership attachment that let's you reduce the cost of the next Silvan you play. While it's great in the Slippery Silvan deck, I'm not sure there are many other decks that this card will make the cut.

SILVAN FEBRUARY! We talk about the leadership attachment that gives a boost to the Slippery Silvan archetype. The card obviously has uses in the Silvan deck, but it may not be useful outside of that. What uses do you see for it?

SILVAN FEBRUARY! In this episode we talk about one of the three brothers from Lothlorien, Orophin. His ability is great for the Silvan deck, but may not hit on all cylinders for other deck archetypes.

SILVAN FEBRUARY! The Greenwood archer came out in the last cycle, but you know that the ability must have been thought of for a Silvan deck that includes Thranduil. Listen to what we have to say about the Greenwood Archer and is it any good without Thranduil?

SILVAN FEBRUARY! Galion makes an appearance in The Hobbit as the butler who gets drunk and allows the captured dwarfs to escape. His card is a thematic home run and it also seems to feed the Slippery Silvan engine since he is a free ally that will get buffed by Celeborn's ability. But he may not get use in decks outside the Silvan archetype.

SILVAN FEBRUARY! In this episode we talk about a craftsmen elf from Lorien, the Galadhrim Weaver who can only be used for questing. While it's a great include in this deck, is it good for general purposes?

SILVAN FEBRUARY! This ally helps protect your board, especially in solo play. He deals direct damage to enemies NOT engaged with you, so that means enemies in the staging area and enemies engaged with other players. Bouncing him in and out of play can be lethal!
Decklist on RingsDB: https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/10693/slippery-silvans-3.0
SILVAN FEBRUARY! The Galadhrim Minstrel is an ally that helps you dig out those events that you want oh so badly. While in a regular deck this card can shine, in the Slippery Silvan deck, this card is great! Tune in for this and all our Silvan content for the month of February!
Decklist on RingsDB: https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/10693/slippery-silvans-3.0
SILVAN FEBRUARY! Here comes Thranduil, the newest card in our Slippery Silvan Deck. His combat action really sets him apart from other Silvan heroes that could slot into the deck, but does that mean he's irreplaceable? Tune in to find out our thoughts!
Decklist on RingsDB: https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/10693/slippery-silvans-3.0
SILVAN FEBRUARY! Rumil, one of the three brothers on Lorien in this deck, takes on a life of his own. The sub-theme for the Slippery Silvan deck is to bring out a bunch of ranged characters to pump up Rumil's response. While he works like a boss in this sort of Silvan deck, he may not work in other decks. Take a listen and let us know what you think.
Decklist on RingsDB: https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/10693/slippery-silvans-3.0
SILVAN FEBRUARY! In this episode we take on the Silvan Tracker, a lore ally that allows all silvans to heal whenever they ready. This card is really the only healing a silvan deck, especially the Slippery Silvans, need. It may not be so great in other decks though.
The Decklist on RingsDB: https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/10693/slippery-silvans-3.0
SILVAN FEBRUARY! In this episode, we discuss the Naith Guide, a 2 cost leadership ally that makes a hero not exhaust to quest. It's a pretty great ability especially in our Slippery Silvan deck.
The decklist on RingsDB: https://ringsdb.com/decklist/view/10693/slippery-silvans-3.0
WELCOME TO SILVAN FEBRUARY! We will be highlighting cards that run in our Slippery Silvan deck all this month and we are starting with Celeborn. This hero is a grease in the engine that helps make the silvans not so squishy. But does he work in other decks? Take a listen.

The Lure of Middle Earth! It's not just the draw that all Tolkien fans feel toward the realm he created. It's an event that draws in over 100 Lord of the Rings LCG players and enthusiasts every year. It's been going on now for almost 19 years, and there is still room for you to go!
Other than the Lure of Middle Earth, we talk to Dominik Schonleben (one of it's organizers) about Saruman the neutral Istari ally. How do you use him? Can you use him? What makes the most sense? Is he any good? Wait, what - Doomed 3?!
For information about the Lure of Middle Earth, visit https://lureofmiddleearth.com/
We approached Ian about the opportunity to talk about a card on Card Talk and he chose (somewhat to our surprise!) Palantir. This card ultimately was better than we initially thought, but does it push it to a playable card in our decks? Tune in and find out!
In this episode of Encounter Card Talk, we take on one of the smaller encounter sets and arguably the easiest set of cards to manage in the whole core set. What are your thoughts on these cards?
Why not take on the last of the Aragorns that have been released to this point? We talked about Lore Aragorn last week with Mr. Underhill, and now we take on the tactics version. He has the same stat line, but his ability is far different, yet equally thematic. Which of the three do you prefer?
In this episode, we talk to Mr. Underhill whose current "Thematic Campaign" with Joseph Forster is hitting the community now. We talk to him about all his community involvement, but more importantly, we discuss a card of his choice, Lore Aragorn. He's high on using his ability to reduce threat. How do you feel about this version?
Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate! What better way to get in the spirit of the holiday season by talking about Spirit Theoden, who is sometimes called Santa because of his artwork. While this hero reminds us of the holiday, is he better than his counterpart, Tactics Theoden? I guess there is just one way to find out!
This encounter set seems to be filled with cards that new players could find intimidating. Oh yeah, this is the set where they brought a hill troll... okay... two of them!
This support character can quest for 4 and only costs 2 spirit. He may make some Rohan decks sing... but he probably can find places in other decks. But the fact that he is one and done can be frustrating. Which side of the fence do you fall on?
We'll give you three extra guesses who Chris picks to talk about in this episode, but at the end of the round, you'll have to get rid of all those guesses and start again for the next show. I know, it's a strange rule, but it makes you think about different ways to construct a... podcast. Thanks to Chris "Seastan" Stanford for being such an amazing guest and a vital part of the LOTR LCG community.
In this episode, we talk about Sam Gamgee's dad, his ole Gaffer. He is thematically a hit and seems to be an amazing card, especially with his ability in being in the lore sphere. Tune in and see what our first impressions of this card are.
NOTE: Bilbo's ability cannot be used against cards that are immune to player card effects. We were excited and didn't look up the rule!
This is our first take on Bilbo. We got news of this card right before we were going to record, so these are more impressions and how we plan on using this card. We missed some obvious combos in our excitement and when the card actually hits the table, we may revisit it and revise our ratings. Let us know what your first impressions are!
In this episode we talk about a very highly regarded card, Eowyn. Her stat line is perfect for questing and her ability allows her to vanquish most enemies. Oh yeah, and she's a tactics hero and that makes a huge difference!
In this, our extended version of the interview with Caleb, we hear some of more about the game developing process and more about the card that is obviously so near and dear to his heart!
This card is a thematic homerun. It symbolizes the relationship that Sam and Frodo had while pushing ever closer to Mount Doom to destroy the one ring. The card's mechanics though, do you think it is a homerun or a strikeout?
While it makes total sense that we have audio issues for this podcast, it also makes sense that this was one of the most fun guest hosts we've had on the show. Jon is the also known as ElectronJon from The Cardboard of the Rings podcast and is a self described "Huge lore nerd"
Which card did he choose? Tune in and find out!
In this episode, we talk with Samuel Shreeve, the creator of the White Tower blog. Right now, he is in the process of his Agents of the White Council feature on that site where he plays a quest and then writes a narrative about what just happened on that quest. Brilliant!
Here, we talk about tactic Theoden, the hero that buffs all tactics heroes. Take a listen to see what he has to say!
In this video, we discuss the leadership attachment Dunedain Mark. This 1 cost card can help any number of heroes because it can be moved around the board. It's not restricted nor is it unique, but does that matter?
Chad really loves a card. In this episode, he talks about all the tricks and toys and tales about his favorite card. You didn't think we would spoil the contest, did you? Don't forget to check out the extended audio version for more fun with Chad!
This leadership ally from the Mumakil adventure pack perked up our decks with his ability. He's not a bad chump blocker and he can nullify and attack from an enemy. That's not a bad thing. Do you think he is all that he is cracked up to be?
Dunhere. Core Set hero. Attacks the staging area. Oh my! That's a pretty cool trick he has. What do you think of this Rohan spirit hero?
Our audio podcast is an extended version of our video podcasts. You can get to our YouTube channel here
In this episode of Encounter Card Talk, we talk about the first scenario encounter set from the core set. Passage through Mirkwood is like a tutorial scenario and is great fun, but it does contain some exciting cards.
The actual Steward of Gondor makes his first appearance in Card Talk with his lore version from the core set. He's low threat and a stout defender. His ability? Weeeellllll.... what do you think?
The second episode of Encounter Card Talk is where we talk about the Dol Guldur Orcs encounter card set. This set is a pretty diverse set of cards and includes enemies, locations, and treacheries. What are your thoughts about the enemies here?
Since we have started an audio version of this podcast, this audio version is an extended version of our video podcast. To see our videos, check out https://youtu.be/l1ojKMBOnvk
In this episode we talk about the wizard that is close to every players' heart, Gandalf. Specifically, we tackle the neutral hero with a 14 threat cost, the most in the game. Are his stats and his ability worth the highest starting threat in the game?
In this, our first Encounter Card Talk, we discuss the cards from the encounter card set Spiders of Mirkwood, a part of the core set.
In this, our 25th episode, we take time to get to know Grant Thom(p?)son, co-host of our lovely podcast. Take some time and hear what he has to say about the game, the cards, and life in general! Thanks, Grant, for being awesome!
Merry, from the Black Riders Saga Box, is a tactics hero with a 6 threat cost. We think he is universally great in a hobbit deck, but we're not sure where else you can slot him. Where would you put him?
The Gondorian spearman is a great card, time tested through all the expansions and still sees play today. What are your thoughts about this tactics gondor ally?
Oh outlands...sigh how you have allowed us to consider your potential for so long. Hirluin is the Leadership Hero that has the outlands trait. I'm not sure if we are impressed with this guy. Are you?
This leadership side quest, you get an ally for the cost of questing through a 6 point detour. Is it worth it?
We are excited to have Joseph Forster joining us. He is one of the admins of the Facebook Group and has his own blog, Lord of the Rings Deck Tech. He chose to surprise us with his pick of card. Take a look and see what he picked!
This card allows you to bring an ally into play, for the cost of 1 lore resource and an extra quest point on the active location. Is the juice worth the squeeze?
The Rivendell Blade is an attachment that doesn't boost your attack strength, like you'd think from a weapon, but rather lowers the enemies defense. That sure was an unexpected twist on an old dynamic! But do we like it? Do you?
An Ent designed to defend and can buff his way to a very good defense statistic. One of us thinks he's pretty cool... the other hasn't really used him. Who do you agree with?
In this episode of Card Talk we dissect just about every part of the Hero, Sam Gamgee. His hobbit trait is awesome, his response is totally cool and he is an all around stud of a hobbit. Do you agree?
Thalin is another core set dwarf, just hanging out being pretty cool. Similar to Gloin, but not that similar. Well, kinda similar... ok, you let us know what you think!
Our first repeat. In this episode we take a closer look at the Baggins sphere hero, Bilbo Baggins. This card probably will rank better than the lore version of Bilbo, but you never know
That staple leadership card... or is it? Join us as we talk about the Steward of Gondor.
In this episode of Card Talk, we talk about everyone's second favorite captain of Gondor (even his father's!), Faramir. The leadership ally has a pretty awesome effect, but is that enough for us to give him just a few rings?
In this episode, we talk about the original armor from the core set. How do you get past the hill troll in Journey Down the Anduin without the Citadel Plate on Gimli? Tune in and see what we say...
In this episode, we look at Eowyn. The core spirit hero that is known for her questing ability, but can she do more? Guess we'll find out
We take on Gandalf, the ally from the core set. We both think this guy is a powerhouse, but is he overpowered? Take a look.
In this episode, we talk about the lowest threat hero in the game thus far, Glorfindel. We all see that he has huge upside potential, but are there any downsides? Watch and find out! SHOW MORE
In this episode of card talk, we take a closer look at a neutral attachment that can only be used on Dwarfs or Hobbits. It's our first non-hero card and we had a great time putting it together!
In this episode Grant and I discuss one of the most popular heroes in the game, Aragorn. Here we talk about the first version of of Aragorn released from the leadership sphere. Many of us in the game call him "Coragorn"
In this episode, we take an in-depth look at Gloin, the wise dwarf among the adventurers to Erebor.
In this video, we talk about Boromir, the warrior from Gondor. He spent his whole life fighting the forces of Mordor. No wonder he was first released as a tactics hero.
In this episode, we talk about the Lore Hero version of Bilbo. It seems that Grant and I pretty much agree on him and all that he is to the game. Not sure if that's good or bad!
In this inaugural episode of Card Talk, Grant and I tackle one of the staples of Lord of the Rings canon, Frodo Baggins. This spirit hero is a great card all around, garnering 3 rings from me and 4 rings from Grant.
