Welcome to Facing It! We're so glad you're here.
Today’s episode is with the contagiously joyful Stefanie Gerstenberg. Stef up until recently was working as the Crisis Support Supervisor at Lifeline Canberra after she started as a volunteer call taker in 2015.
Stef spoke candidly with us about how she had used the Lifeline service herself in her younger years, and when she found herself wanting to volunteer and give back to the community years later - Lifeline was an obvious choice. In this episode, Stef explains to us the day-to-day for Lifeline volunteers, what a person can expect when they call the service and also helped us bust some myths around what Lifeline does (or doesn’t do).
In this episode, we discuss suicidal thoughts and behaviours, and mental distress. If you or someone you know needs assistance or further advice please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
We just loved this chat with Stef, as two people who have called Lifeline ourselves in our own experiences - it was incredibly enlightening to hear about the volunteers, their experiences and the ins and outs of the service. We are passionate about demystifying the mental health system and hope that you can learn something new about accessing a service like Lifeline and how it may be able to help you or someone you love in the future.
